BEWARE....We came here on a Wednesday night for friends birthday everything was great until we pay... my bill was $289 I gave my credit card like I pay at other businesses. When they gave my credit card and the receipt back to me to sign the amount on the credit card receipt was different it went up to $297.67 so I went to my waitress to ask why there is a difference. She and the bartender both answered me because there is a transaction fee for credit card.... Really? Almost $9 fee for paying credit card??! In that case why you don't tell us before we pay that if we pay credit card then it's going to be a fee... ?? what kind of business still charge fees for paying credit cards? Had an incredible birthday dinner at Brazen Head! The intimate, cozy vibe made you feel like you were in a historic san francisco pub. Our waitress Erin was incredibly knowledgeable on all food and drinks. We were pretty indecisive since it was our first time and everything sounded amazing, but she was great at explaining the items and recommending what she thought we'd enjoy. They are known for their escargot and pepper steak and we totally agree! They were both amazing and are a must order! Another staff member, August, was so attentive and friendly. He regularly checked in on us and helped in any way. The only negative of the night was my salmon was pretty undercooked, I couldn't eat half of it. I didn't want to bring it up to the staff, but they definitely would've taken care of it if I had! I was also anxious about the no reservations, so we arrived at 6:00 but it was relatively empty. By 7:00 it was about half full, so don't feel like you need to go too early. read more

Came in for a take out dinner. Love the food. Told I had to go to the bar to do my order. So while there I ordered a Capain Morgan on the rocks. It was bascially served in shot glass, but at a high price. It was the biggest rip off I've ever seen at a bar in the Marina. Looks like Brazen Head is desperate to rip off customers. Brazen head is one of those IYKYK spots in the marina. It's very unassuming while it sits on the corner of a residential block without much street appeal. Then you walk into a dimly lit area with a rustic feel that can sometimes be hard to get through at times because of the amount of people squeezed in. They don't take reservations, so you have to add your name to the list when you get there. They're normally pretty good with their estimates on time, but it can take a while to finally get seated. Luckily, they have (in my opinion) the best espresso martini in the city (among many other types of martinis that you can choose from). The bar tenders are always friendly and they make great drinks. Once you're finally to your table, you'll find that it was worth the wait. This is primarily a steakhouse, so those dishes are emphasized on the menu. All entrees come with 2 sides. I always go for the loaded mashed potatoes (it's not on the menu, but they'll serve it similar to how HOPR does it). The green beans are also great. My favorite steak is the pepper steak. Always perfectly cooked and covered in a pepper sauce that adds a little more kick of flavor. read more

How have I never left a review?! I love this place! It all started because I wanted a good meal at 10 PM and I was referred here. This was about 8 years ago and my affection for this place just gets better. The menu is small but efficient with things like Peppered New York steak, chicken Marsala and various fish options. I don't eat fish so I can't remember the exact dishes. It has a full bar and the drinks are always delicious. Care goes Into making them. I usually get a lemon drop. The atmosphere is dimly lit with red tones from the wood walls and red shaded lamps. It allows for mellow moods, which is nice when you're having a late dinner after working or out on a date. When I started going it was easy to miss with no signs (some stencil of the restaurant name on the front door window) and little light coming from the windows. It now has a parklet in front making it easier to spot. It being so low profile gives me the feel of hidden steakhouses popular in New York. This restaurant is truly a gem in San Francisco and I love recommending it to people whenever I can. This was my first date spot for my now boyfriend so I hold it even more near to my heart. read more

Went here for my anniversary and the service was great! They don't take reservations but the wait was only about 25 minutes on a Saturday night and you can grab a drink in the bar area while you are waiting. The lighting in the restaurant is orange so not quite the place to go if you're trying to take photos but it adds to the ambiance. The bread is delicious!! Brazen Head provided a lovely prime rib dinner, complete with horseradish and baked potato. We started with the burrata and Sierra Nevada, left very full and satisfied. Despite being super busy, we had an outside table in about a half hour and the two waitresses covering these tables were on it! Seems every customer either is a regular or feeling lucky they found this gem. We will drive up from the Peninsula to have dinner here again. No reservations is a great policy! A complete fail, sadly despite the warm welcome and friendly staff, the small menu serving even smaller portions of below average meats couldn't amend our expectations for this city's legendary eats. Coming from the Midwest where big steak and bigger people are everywhere, we were surprised to notice the only sized part of this quaint corner restaurant was prices. Not out of place for Indiana cities mind you but for the calories and sides included we couldn't figure how chef managed to forget more sauces, gravy, or anything like potatoes and any additional budget veggies to fill up hungry hands like us who spent most the afternoon walking this incredible downtown. I personally couldn't fault my meatballs appetizer for flavors. Easy to eat and rich combination of proteins but the twenty dollars it added up to after tax and tip seemed unfair for three small spheres. The burger looked a winner too since it disappeared quickly across the table from me. However the others who did the Guinness lamb shank and two getting the prime rib mentioned a subpar experience due to overall kitchen results and again inexplicable lack of fillers. Even the most basic of options at home, namely the infamous Texas Roadhouse, covers a table with a properly sized prime rib and an assembly of sides for half the price here. Maybe it's a tad awkward to compare such two but I'd hope any city slick steak site holds itself to higher standards than national chains smelling of peanuts especially when 240$ across five guys in San Francisco doesn't fill us up. Texas has a good prime rib game due to seriously thick and savory sizes. I'd say that's a minimum for any. We figured out too late that the desserts are the thing here! 3.5 stars for a delightful, quaint, neighborhood place. There's a partition between the bar and dining area but it felt to dark. I'm not fond on dining in dark places and I had to pull out my mini flashlight so Hubby could see the check to sign it at the end of the meal. Junior Yelper wanted prime rib and we came here just for that. We tried the French Onion soup which was good and had a nice layer of cheese. The complimentary herbal bread was great with the soup. The Caesar salad was Ok. I'm pretty used to having it with a tad more acid. Our prime ribs came with creamed spinach which was tasty and not watery like at some other places. The baked potatoes were ok, served with a pat of butter and sour cream. Wished the potatoe was fluffier. The prime rib was tender but parts had too much sinew. The au jus was delicious and I wished I had more of it. Our server was the best. She checked on us frequently and was really nice. Even the guy at the door who checked our vax records was great. Look up the word "cozy" in the dictionary and Brazen Head would be one of the definitions. The Old San Francisco ambience, the tables and chairs, the awesome mood lighting, and even the smell is something special -- and I'm not necessarily talking about a food smell, there is some other magical nostalgic aroma in this place that will transport you back in time. And then there is the food, which matches the ambience. The Chicken Marsala is legend here -- SO GOOD! -- tender chicken breast, mouthwatering sauce and exceedingly fresh and tasty mushrooms. I also love the Brazen Burger. Very high quality beef hamburger on a round onion roll with cheddar cheese, grilled onions, and mayo -- although I hold the onions, replace the mayo with Thousand Island, and add mushrooms (you can also add avocado and/or bacon!). Folks, it's one of the best burgers I have ever had in the city. Another favorite is the French Onion Soup. Lots of other great dishes I haven't tried, but lots of favorites of other patrons, such as the Filet Mignon and the Salmon. Wonderful staff at the front door, waiting tables (Shelley is terrific!) and at the bar. Not a drinker but lots of folks with smiling faces at the bar. And yet another great thing about Brazen Head: they serve food late -- Sun-Wed til 11pm, Thurs-Sat til Midnight. And prices are in sync with most other restaurants in the city. So happy they survived the pandemic -- one of my favorite restaurants in SF. read more

The ambiance is very nice, it lives up to its photos and feels like you are in a fictional area (places like Brazen Head aren't common and are somewhat "fantasized"). The server was very nice, she took her time to ask us how our food was, refilled our water, and helped us bag our leftovers up. The reason why I'll give the restaurant three stars, is because the food was subpar, and for the price, not well-valued. (7.67/10) The escargot was pretty nice, it wasn't too "much" nor was it lacking in any particular department. Then bread they provided complimented the escargot as well. No complaints, it gets a 7.5 though due to the price:quality ratio. The escargot wasn't exceptional by any means, but it was good. (4.1/10) I ordered a ribeye steak, medium-rare, with mashed potatoes and greens. The ribeye was more rare than medium-rare, but that's fine since I don't mind. The steak itself lacked enough salt; okay, I'll add salt, and I like my foods somewhat saltier than usual anyways. The primary flaw though, wasn't even those I just mentioned. To put it bluntly, and it hurts me to say this due to the excellent service, the steak just wasn't good. I tried convincing myself that it's better than I thought while chewing, but unfortunately, it just lacked flavor. It's not that it wasn't tender, the steak literally just felt like texture without flavor. Feedback to restaurant: I didn't try too much, as I only had those two dishes, so I won't judge your entire menu or make assumptions. I will tell you though, that if I feel like I can make a better steak at home on a pan for the same amount of time that I spent waiting for it (45 minutes. Not complaining about the time, but think of it like the more the time waited, the better the expectations are). The steak excreted a lot when cutting into it, making me assume that the steak wasn't well-rested, so in a way, I felt like I not only paid a high price for something that I didn't enjoy, but that I sat idly for a prolonged period of time, and in that same duration I could've (for a 1/3 of the price) made my own steak that would've blown the one I was served out of the water. The escargot was good, not outstanding, but I wouldn't look into "improving" it because, well, it's escargot, and it's good. Your restaurant's staff and service was excellent, and I really did appreciate the way your staff treated us, you hired good people, please relay our compliments over to them :). The ambiance was wonderful. The location, the entrance, and the seating made us feel like we were in a "special" place, even "elite" in a weird way. I can't really find the words to explain it, but it felt cozy and safe, 10/10 for atmosphere. Again though, the food (for me, not sure what my friends thought) was a 5.85/10 for me. I'm certain that your other dishes are probably wonderful, and maybe I just got unlucky. Service and ambience is terrific, really as good as it can get. Old school stuff, great lighting. Martini was good, I got a Pinot , was good not great but okay (at least it wasn't 19 bucks which in sf can easily happen). The steak was under seasoned. I got the ny strip. That au poiver or whatever the Jus was is clearly not a reduction as much as it is beef bullion+water+corn starch to tighten it up. I get it, you wanna save time, you save time, but salt the hell out of it, at least! Dessert was good. Prob can't miss there. You're going for the atmosphere, and to sit in a room like that, I'll probably go again. I won't rush back, though, because the steak wasn't quite up to snuff. read more
