Back again for round two (mom's other eye, cataract surgery). So this has become our must go spot as we wait it out. This time dad got an apple turnover and he likes it which if you know him is saying a lot! I have the eggs Benedict with lox in a croissant which like muffin. It was interesting. Think I would have preferred it warmed up but that's just me. It was the perfect amount for breakfast. And I had an oat milk mocha. Yumm We struck up a good conversation with the people next to us so yah very friendly neighborhood vibe here! Ok anyone else need their eyes done?! lol, perfect time and place to go while you wait!

Quick stop to grab a sandwich and bread. Nice place. Clean. I came at 1:45pm so I think they were out of a lot of things in the case it seems empty. The cashier was nice and answered my questions without looking annoyed!

I visited Bread & Cie on a Sunday afternoon with a group after one of my friends ran the San Diego Rock & Roll Marathon. We had to drive around briefly to find parking, but eventually located a lot nearby. The employees were very friendly & I appreciated the free samples of their pastries. I ordered the smoked salmon avocado toast with poached eggs, & also picked up a loaf of brioche bread & a cruffin to take home for my parents. I got to try bites of the sandwiches, pastries, & drinks my friends ordered as well, & thought everything was absolutely delicious. Would love to visit again!

I've been here a few times, and every visit I'm overwhelmed, in the best way by how many great options they have. There's a wide variety of bread loaves to choose from, along with tarts, pastries, and croissants, all of which look incredibly tempting. On a previous visit, I tried the panini sandwich and remember really enjoying it. This time, I ordered a latte and a caprese. The latte was good, though I do wish the caprese had been warmed up a bit. Overall, it's still a spot I enjoy and keep coming back to because of the variety and quality.

Pretty good casual place to grab some breakfast. I had a pot of earl grey tea and the frittata Mediterranean panini. It's a counter service place where they then bring you out your order to your table. The service was good, especially considering I came during what seemed to be a breakfast rush. I'll likely be back again.

We've come here once before, and we're really amazed by the fresh bread and abundance of flavor options one that we really liked from before was the fig bread This time we came for avocado, toast, and poached egg, which was one of the best I've ever had for breakfast ( I know I know, but really it was amazing). I'm not a huge fan of their coffee, but this pistachio croissant would make me come back in a heartbeat. Everything about the flavor and texture was wonderful and also I'd come back for the avocado toast, of course Can't wait to try their fresh bread options I especially love an olive bread

Bread and Cie Cie means company in French...just like Inc in English Overdue review, as I have been coming here for almost 2 years. There's parking in their lot if you're lucky, Peet's coffee shop is next door and it's close to Scripps Mercy Medical. This bakery cafe in Hillcrest has among the best seeded sour dough baguettes and macarons, which are my favorite to to items, the baguette for Moi and the cremé Brûlée macaron for my baby Fendi. There's indoor and outdoor seating. I usually purchase togo and never eaten here but the menu offers soups, salads, sandwiches and of course bakery goods. Ambiance is busy and the majority of the crowd are older mature and men, since Hillcrest area is the LGBTQ capital in SD. Some reviewers mention negative experience from a curmudgeon especially if you happen to walk inside the bakery before 07:30a even though their doors are open. The said curmudgeon is allegedly rude and yells at you to not come inside until 07:30a... :( I didn't experience that but if you don't want customers coming inside before 07:30a I suggest you keep the doors Locked!! Service from the staffers had been inconsistent and not helpful or nice but have improved from observation and hope the positive attitude and service continues. During certain religious holidays, ie Rosh Hashanah, Yum Kippur it's a challenge to find Challah Bread, honey loaves throughout San Diego. However, over the last occasions, this bakery did have specialty breads available, and merits a recommendation. Oui! Bien Sûr!!

It's been a minute since I've been here, which is a shame, because it was so delicious! I ordered a pistachio croissant and it was baked to perfection. The pistachios delishness was crunchy and ample for every bite. Omg! Asparagus quiche was fluffy and perfectly baked as well. Loved it! See you again soon!

Best bread in San Diego. I always order my jalapeño cheddar loaves from here and they are magical. They don't skimp on the jalapeño OR cheddar!! I've also had the Kalamata olive loaf and various pastries - all delicious. Take a loaf home & thank me later

Having had their bread at other restaurants I had wanted to check out their actual location. Busy on a weekday morning yet still places to sit. Ordering at counter was a bit chaotic and with some food handed out (quiche from case handed to us but our macaroon wasn't and it never arrived at the table either) Quiche was good yet cold. Warm wpyld have been better. Frittata sandwich was a good share. Freshed OJ was probably best thing I had. Macaron was delish when we finally got it wish still had coffee at that point. Overall love the bread. The rest was decent yet not worth the effort potentially on a busier day.

How many times can I come here and enjoy myself. Seemingly endless. Today after the Sunday hike it was Earl Grey tea and some French baguette to take home to the boyfriend. Always a nice place and today it was really quiet and not crowded. Guess we hit the early side.

If you love delicious European-style Artisan fresh out of the oven bread. sandwiches, and bakery goods to also include awesome coffee, tea, and beverages this is your place! It's my ultimate favorite place for all of the above! For 30 years, Bread and Cie bakery and café has been delighting locals and visitors with its authentic, European-style artisan breads, baked fresh every day in stone-hearth ovens. They offer signature sourdoughs and hearty multigrains to delicate pastries and rustic baguettes, every bite reflects a dedication to craftsmanship and quality. My sandwich that I ordered today was a turkey with lettuce, tomato, and hot-pepper jack cheese. I added sliced avocado to it. It was the most heavenly sandwich! This place not only has an inviting atmosphere, but the employees seem happy and it shows as they are so friendly to customers. They make you feel right at home. Bread and Cie is the perfect spot to grab a morning coffee, enjoy a fresh salad or sandwich, or take home a loaf that tastes like it came straight from a Parisian market. Also, what makes Bread & Cie stand out and so amazing is not just their consistency, but their heart. For thirty years, they've nourished the community with more than food as they've offered a gathering place where tradition, flavor, and passion come together. Their 30-year celebration is a testament to their undying commitment to excellence, and to the loyal customers who return again and again like me because they know there's simply nothing else like it in San Diego. There is nothing like this place. It has the history behind it that continually serves the present-day community in total perfection! I love how every season they take joy and put forth energy to make the seasons of life come alive with beautiful decorations. I also noticed the employees feel it's important to keep this business clean and tidy as they are cleaning tables right after every customer. When I step inside. I feel like I am in a cute, quaint, and cozy town in Europe like maybe France or Italy enjoying the food, atmosphere and savoring every moment. In conclusion, I always admire and enjoy this bakery and cafe immensely, so that is why I return. I highly recommend Bread and Cie to everyone! It's the best place in San Diego!

A year after my first review and Bread & Cie remains as my favorite bakery in San Diego. Shoutout to their bread makers, because their products were my main fuel for carbo loading, and helped me prepare for my half marathon. Thank you, bread makers!!!

I like the different variety of table seating to the different rooms of where you can dine. It was inviting and very spacious. Everyone that we encountered was super friendly and outgoing. It was very great hospitality. Our waiter was very helpful and check in on us quite often. The service was Superb. Now the food, we went on a Wednesday which they have Happy Hour all day. We ordered The Record Room Burger which came with Fries. This was very tasty. The fries were excellent. I tried one of my friend's dishes which was the Lamb Meatballs and that was amazing. Sadly, the B&R Mac n Cheese did not do it for me. It was missing seasoning and the flakes tasted stale. The staff did give us salt & pepper to jazz it up which did help. Regardless of the mac n cheese, I really enjoyed this place. The red wine was perfection. Overall it was a great experience and I gotta go back to check out other food items.

We did have a fairly large group so we occupied the entire back wall corner. It was a bit snug in terms of table space and leg space, but we made it work. The staff were doing their best to keep track of everyone's orders, but there were a few mix-ups in the end. Food came out in waves and had a good cadence to the meal. - FOOD - We had a lot to share amongst our group! Wagyu Tartare ($14.00): Really flavorful tartare! Had a nice tartness to it due to the Black Vinegar. Pork Belly Baos ($12.00 - 2pc): Honestly this was just OK to me. Ahi Tuna Crudo ($18.00): Very bright and refreshing. Chicken Satay ($12.00): A little dry on some chicken pieces. Crispy Brussels ($10.00): Not as crispy as I'd hoped but still good. B&R Mac & Cheese ($8.00): Very creamy, very cheesy. The pasta was a bit soft though. Flat Iron Steak & Fries ($25.00): Decent piece of steak, cooked medium well. I honestly enjoyed the fries a lot! However, there must have been something expired, cooked wrong, or just not up to quality as many of us got stomach issues that night and the next day. We were all spread out so not sure what it could have been given we ate a few different items. - OVERALL - It was a cool vibe and they have some good tasting items, but considering a few of us got sick, I'm a bit wary to come back.

So I am glad we decided to share the biscuits and gravy but let me run down each thing. Bloody Mary Flight: Honestly every single one was amazing. My favorite was definitely the pickle Mary! Everything tasted so delicious and was garnished beautifully. Well worth the 22 dollars. Biscuits and Gravy: Absolute perfection of comfort food. The biscuits were so fluffy and well seasoned. The gravy was also soooo good, just like my mom makes. The sausage in it was also cooked so well and juicy. I've never tried mashed potatoes with the biscuits and gravy but it worked very well!
