I never thought I would like bread this much. The kaya toast here is delicious and very reasonably priced at about $6. The kaya topping was sweet and complemented the yummy milk bread. The salt they add on top is a really great finish too. I also tried the 50/50 drink, which is half tea and half coffee, sweetened with condensed milk. The combination seemed really weird to me at first, but it definitely worked. The drink was super refreshing and you could taste the best of each component inside. I would definitely get this again. Seating is a bit limited during peak hours, so coming here to work isn't the best idea. I would definitely recommend a visit to try the toasts and drinks here if you're in the area! read more

Met a friend here for a late lunch, while wfh one day. It wasn't crazy busy and we were able to find seating, with more seating available which is always a plus at an SF cafe. I had their egg sandwich where I subbed the ham for avocado instead, it was amazing - only thing I would say is the red chili chutney inside is insanely good, but it was so sparing and not nearly enough. Wow couldn't get over how delicious the kaya toast was. The creamy sugary delicious and smooth kaya spread combined with the soft crunchy and lightly salted toast was enough to turn me into a fan. I also loved the black sesame / horchata drink -- very glutinous, like an Asian milkshake. read more

I came across Breadbelly while searching for a cafe near Golden Gate Park, and what a pleasant surprise! The ambiance is super cute and the pastry selection is really unique. While the prices are on the higher end, I think the large portions actually make up for it. I ordered a chai latte and the mug was as large as a soup bowl - no joke! One thing to note is that they have limited milk options. For example, no nonfat milk which is always a bummer. Luckily they have some solid alternative milk options. My top rec for food is the Kaya Toast. I'm scared to look at the nutrition facts but MAN it's delicious. It's huge (easily enough for two people) and the flavors are unlike anything I've seen at another bakery. Super unique and definitely worth trying. Overall, I'm sure I'll be back in the future. Came for the Kaya Buns. Ended up eating much more. Parking: Street parking within a block or two in my experience on other weekday morning and weekend. Food & Drinks: Char Siu sandwich not overly rich, on fluffy milk bread, and despite being someone who does not like mayonnaise the Kewpie mayo was just fine balanced with the veggies. Mushroom Barley Broth was delicious and comforting. Not Ube Tart was VERY good. Not overly sugary and the meringue and salted egg was luscious. Kaya Toast was good but I prefer the Kaya Bun custard-type filling over the Kaya jam on the toast. Both good but if I had to choose one to eat daily - it'd be the bun. The pastries are best enjoyed fresh but FYI, the Not Ube Tart and Kaya Buns were still good the day after :) The Sesame Horchata was good, however, the Lychee Watermelon was BOMB. Service: First visit, the cashier didn't smile, wasn't engaged, and seemed distracted looking past me. Other than her, I want to point out how helpful they are. I didn't see Kaya Buns on my first visit and DM'd them on IG. They replied promptly answering my questions. On the next visit, I had baking questions and who I believe to be Chef James Wong kindly answered my questions about my homemade milk bread fails. What I ordered: breakfast sandwich (4/5) The fillings are ham, easy over egg, pickled kale, lettuce and the spicy paste. The sweet and spicy kick definitely made the sandwich unique. V curious how they marinate the kale. Bun was standard brioche bun kaya bun (2.5/5) Had high hopes for this one given others hyped reviews. I've been long anticipating the opening of Breadbelly and was delighted to check out their soft opening this weekend. Having done a pastry brunch box in the past and it was DELICIOUS, I couldn't wait to check out the new space! The creativity of flavors and the unique ingredients makes this place far and away my new favorite bakery. Some standouts - Kaya Toast - oh my goodness this toast was unreal. The custard...so delicious and flavorful. The strawberry ume almond cookie! Just delightful and the plum jam in the middle was tart & balanced out the sweetness of the almond perfectly. This is going to be one of our go-to spots in area for coffee, good food, and chill hanging out! We wanted to try everything, but had to save some for our next trip! The place is about 2 months new and the owner, Clement is super nice and welcoming. He was helping to serve, take orders, and talk with people there. What a humble guy! For a Monday at 12 pm the place was filled! Every table was taken (but rotating with people). It still felt like there was room for more. Good use of space! Vibe was really chill, relaxing, and lively with conversation. Not a quiet place to study but a good place to hangout and catch up with people. We ate: - Char Siu sandwich: so huge! My husband only ate half so he could enjoy the other items. It's super filling and there's lots of meat and veggies. A good balance. The meat is well seasoned and tender. Everything compliments each other. The bread is SO GOOD. baked in house I think! - Breakfast sandwich: before even eating this the smell made me want to dive right in! The egg, ham, lettuce, kale, and sauces are so well married together. Egg is perfectly cooked, yolk oozing out but not getting messy. When I finished I was extremely content and happy. - Kaya Toast: GET THIS. ALWAYS. this is hands down my favorite thing we got. But I really would devour everything 100x over. My husband is not one for sweets so this was perfect for him. There is a delicate balance of coconut & pandan sweetness and creamy and savory from the salt. Not to mention the MILK BREAD is AMAZING. so soft and pillowy! And lightly browned with butter on the bottom to add a crisp. DROOL. - Butter mochi: This was super yummy too! We actually ate this first since it came from the case. We loved the coconut and other nutty toppings. Such a good balance of sweet and savory. - Sticky bun: I LOVE sticky buns and this is amazing. It is on the sweet side- there is caramel and nuts, along with azuki red beans throughout! Genius! I love how there is a hint of Asian influence on all the food. It's not what you expect and your taste buds are wanting more! Kaya Toast was wayyyyyyyy sweet. It was pretty much green colored condensed milk with maybe a hint of pandan flavor. I mean it was good but I could probably only eat like two bites. The toast is very well toasted though. Not ube tart was alright. I do appreciate the shaved salted egg on top but I was not wowed. They also really really REALLY need to dilute their sesame horchata. Lots of great flavors and unique combinations using Asian fusion flavors. I like the more simple dishes but I know friends who love the more intricate dishes. To be honest, this review is only based on my five minute interaction with the friendly man behind the counter and my one order of a non-ube tart. It was my first time visiting so I asked him what was popular. He mentioned the mochi and the non-uber tart, which I tried. The tart was a work of art. It had these slightly savory flakes on top which complemented the moderately sweet sweet potato filling. The citrus lassi has a delicious floral hit which elevated the creamy labneh base. Kaya was lovely on the milk bread toast; though I could do with a few more salt flakes on top. The cornbread with egg has a huge, crispy cheese frill which made it my favorite. The pomegranate and date bun sounded like it should be sweet but it had a meaty, robust savory flavor that was perfectly complemented by the cottage cheese topping. Egg salad sandwich was lively and hearty - textural contrast from fried squash was the perfect foil to the soft cloudy bun and the creamy egg salad. I enjoyed the curry bun but less so than the date one. Was not a fan of brown butter mochi; I guess I am a bit of a purist for a classic butter mochi; the one here was delicious but the brown butter and salty nut crumble topping overwhelmed the delicate coconut flavor that would be typical of a classic butter mochi. Ok, here's the deal -- the food is totally Instagrammable, the service is fine, but the food is average at best. The best thing I had was the bottle of yuzu soda. The shrimpwich and the sausagewich were OK, but not anything I would ever order again. Same goes for the Basque cheesecake. Very expensive and disappointing. so happy they're in my neighborhood. It's a little small and at least on weekends I've seen it pretty packed with families and individuals dining in, working (laptop out), others chatting casually at tables. There isn't that much space to begin with, but they do have a few outdoor seating options, so don't be discouraged! I've had the Kaya Toast and sampled their baked goods on multiple occasions and they're consistent in quality and creativity. Among the breakfast items, Bone broth is delicious, the egg crepe too. I really don't want to write this review, I know that if I do more people will come to bread belly! I had seen this pop up in the hot and new section of yelp and from stirandstyles Instagram! My fiancée and I checked it out on a random Thursday afternoon and it had a steady flow of customers! It's a small space it would be better to take your food items to go! We got a tad overexcited about the menu offerings and ordered quite a few things! We started off with the not ube tart, char siu sandwich, mushroom soup and the kaya toast! Let me just say everything we had was really tasty and exceeded our expectations! The kaya toast was the real star of the meal. You can taste the pandan on the perfectly griddled toast along with some condensed milk. It's not too sweet and it's just perfect on the fluffiest bread ever! The char siu sandwich was extremely filling! the bread was fluffy, packed with tender pork and greens! Probably my fave version of char siu I've had! The not ube tart was pretty tasty with a flaky pie crust, purple sweet potato filling with egg yolk shaved on top. Sounds unappetizing from my description but once you take a bite, all the flavors melt together and taste amazing!! I'm so glad it's so close to where I live and I can't wait to come back for more! Tried the sticky bun and the matcha cappuccino. Both were fine, but not great. The matcha was a little grainy, but still good. The sticky bun was not very good. It tasted like the sugar was a little burnt. There was also red bean on it, which doesn't work for me. I ended up just throwing it away. They're a new business though, so maybe they'll improve over time. They also need to change their prices. I paid almost $13 for a small drink and a sticky bun that wasn't quite made correctly. On top of that, the woman at the counter does not have very good customer service skills. Didn't smile once, looked annoyed to be there, and didn't say you're welcome when I said thank you. Wow such bold flavors! Cream cheese bagel roll was delicious although I was not a fan of the onion jam. The coconut monkey bread was delicious and unexpectedly crunchy. The cheesecake was so incredibly rich and delicious, the texture was perfect and the flavor was unique. The Ube tart was okay, not my favorite but I'm not a huge fan of meringue. read more
