Cute interior. Can you spot my fave children's book character?

First visit to Breakfast House. Our two dishes were the House Hash (main menu) and Lemon French Toast (specials menu). My daughter and I split the meals to have a bit of sweet and savory. The french toast was delightful - not overly sweet, served with lovely presentation of fruit and blueberry drizzle. The Hash was robust and flavorful- great combo of ingredients. Staff we interacted with were all helpful and kind. They have free WiFi should you need it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nice vibe inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Not too crowded on a Thursday morning around 9:00.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Booths, tables and counter seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Came here on a Saturday for a party of two and was seated right away. Service was very fast and friendly. They had an extensive menu that included some brunch favorites like omelettes and benedicts but also had some unique specials. I ended up getting the corn cake breakfast plate with two eggs over easy, Virginia ham, and a side of their buttermilk pancakes. The corn meal cakes were nicely spiced and very well constructed, definitely get this if you're looking for something new for brunch.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Clean restaurant, big portions, excellent service![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Chilaquiles were delicious, as was the French toast.

Staff was nice, my fried chicken eggs Benedict was so yummy. My vanilla latte was also good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was stomping along Chicago looking for a place to chow down and found a diner with room and food big enough to satisfy my T. rex appetite.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Jessica J served this big ole boy all mornin'! Service with a smile, which isn't easy when you've got a T. rex staring you down. Rawr. The Mexican omelette was delicioso brought me back to the good ol' diner days of the Late Cretaceous era. I'll be coming back with some Triceratops buddies another day! Rawr

What a lovely little Breakfast House location! The interior is clean and bright. The staff was helpful and service was quick. Manager, Lauro, introduced himself and ensured our meal was excellent (it was). I really appreciate the hospitality and community vibe (: I will definitely return, with friends and family in tow.

Lemon french toast with whipped cream & lemon zest

I had wanted to try this place that I was introduced to on the Uptown Restaurant Walk in summer 2024. Went with a friend and we found the place, and our waiter Angel A. warm & friendly. One of their specialties that we sampled on the walk was their Hash. So I ordered the vegan hash, and found it to be fresher and healthier than I remembered. It came with spinach, bro, corn, tomatoes and corn. I chose a side of fresh fruit and am happy to report it had less melon than the average. I wanted something sweet after that so I asked what they had and learned that the lemon French Toast was on the sweet side. I certainly couldn't eat another dish, so the waiter suggested putting in a 'half order' request. I ended up with a full order and brought the rest home. It was utterly delicious not too sweet, but with fruit, whipped cream, lemon zest and powdered sugar dusting. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance was a nice diner style place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Highly recommended!

Very tasty new breakfast joint in Uptown. The food was good, the service friendly, and the coffee strong. What more could I ask for?

And I don't eat meats that are made with nitrates. So that knocks out the whole sandwich menu. Oh and I just don't like mushrooms. It's not their problem! Believe me, I know I'm a hot mess. You can't just order a sandwich with chicken and arugula because everything is pre-made and the chicken diced up and is already mixed with red bell peppers, more like a chicken salad sandwich, rather than just a piece of chicken breast waiting for some bread and accoutrements which is what I expected after reading the menu on my phone the day before choosing it for a visit. So it's impossible to get a custom sandwich where you pick and choose what's on it. But they were extremely nice answering all my questions about the food. I could maybe get some focaccia and a side of broccoli if I was desperate and nothing else was open. But I was in no rush and just went home and made something for myself. But my partner really enjoyed it so I'm glad we stopped by to check it out. It's definitely unique and convenient if you don't have so many food allergies like I do. I had already had my coffee fix for the day so I neglected to ask if they have nondairy milk options. There's limited seating inside but lots outside if the weather's nice! Cute little place.

I doubt anyone leaves feeling less jolly than they did going in. On this visit, I started with the After Word to drink. It was light-bodied, not at all too sweet, and possibly went down *too* easily. We split the short rib poutine and I can't think of a better dish to get you through the winter. The meat absolutely melted in the mouth and the cheese was abundant and rich. Would order again in a heartbeat! We also tried the alligator bites as a seasonal special. I'd not had alligator before, but they were super crispy and spicy with an addictive gochujang sauce. It really does taste like chicken. If you've ever wanted to try alligator, this is the place to do it. For the main event, I opted for the red beans and rice hand pie. It came with a light, citrus salad and delicious hand cut fries with 3 dipping sauces, which were very fun to try. I loved the buttery pie crust but the filling tasty very tomato forward- I was missing the heat of a traditional red beans & rice and wished there was more seasoning. Still good. As usual, the portions were generous for the price and we left with leftovers. Absolutely recommend making the trek over here to give B&B a try, and will be back soon!

Then I forget for a few months, find another $20, end up stumbling across this place again and going "why don't I come here more?" This has happened three times. The most important part though- it's real tasty. Always. I'd say all of it, but I'm still working my way through the menu, but the burgers and Mac never let me down. The servers are always really laid back, and nothing feels rushed. I think it's part of the charm; somewhere to go and relax and take your time to enjoy the vibe. And you know what would help the vibe even more? Including the bread pudding on the menu full time. Keeping that bad boy stocked for me at all times. (This time was my first time seeing it on the specials menu and listen, it WAS special. So special that you should upgrade it to mainstay is all.)

Hopleaf Bar is hands down one of our favorite spots for dinner and drink in all of Chicago!…read more One key to a successful dinning experience at Hopleaf is knowing the three different spaces to engage. When you first walk in, you have to show your ID since this is an adults-only bar establishment. (1) You can then choose to sit in the front bar area, if you want a full menu, but use the bar for ordering service. (2) If you keep walking through the front bar area, you reach the host stand at the top of the ramp. This is where you can put your name in to sit in the main dining room, upstairs, or outside. (3) However, you can also walk through to the left of the host stand to another bar area that has full menus, but bar service for ordering. This is our preferred spot because we can often find a seat and order with the bar. Do note that, during busy times, part of this bar area is managed by the host stand and will be labeled as such. The extensive beer menu is our favorite. We have our favorite food items, so all our decision making revolves around which beer we will get. They always have a bit of everything style-wise, from all over the world, but with a local-brewery focus. Seasonal emphasis is also taken into consideration when they curate the beer list. It is always rotating and we love it! Beers are served in the recommended glasses from the breweries. It's a great drinking experience from start to finish! Our food orders are eternally set: I get the Nueske Ham sandwich with fries and aioli. My husband gets the Reuben sandwich with fries and aioli. This meal is so perfect we'll probably never get anything different, despite the menu being delicious across the board. The wildest we get is sometimes splitting the two sandwiches. No reason to mess with a good thing! Other notable great things about Hopleaf: (1) Kind, knowledgeable, and professional staff. (2) Reasonable prices for high quality and great variety products. (3) Clean Belgian Bar decor/vibe with lots of space for folks to enjoy their time. (4) They are open late and serve food late. Thank you for being an amazing local spot, Hopleaf! We'll see you soon!
