The service was very decent the food was horrible. Pancakes were so tuff they couldn't be cut with a knife, bacon hours old, sausage cold.

I have been coming here for years, and I've seen how this place has changed--and stayed the same!…read moreIn a recent visit, some of the classic charm is still there even if their old cash register is not! I think it's not trying to chase some form of nostalgia instead of just be itself (there's huge figurines around the property, for example, of Elvis). This is classic diner fare and they do a pretty good job of it. I think their milkshakes are pretty great because they are made with thick ice cream and spun right there. I've been getting the Black Bottom for years. As time has gone by, I think this has slowly become more and more eggy vs hamburger-y. This is a bit of a disappointment, to be honest, as it's very unique to Angel's. The tea is still good. Prices have remained reasonable in spite of the years. The diner itself is just as run-down as I remember it every time. But on my most recent visit, the air conditioning didn't leak on me!

The dining car definitely is the place to sit for the full experience. However, seating is limited and it fills quickly during meal times. Beware-the picnic tables come with a slightly weathered statue of Elvis Presley that may seem creepy to some. We chose to share the black-bottomed burger. It's a delicious mixture of egg, hamburger, cheese, and onions. It's hard to describe but truly tasty. The chili cheese fries were a bit soggy but the chili and cheese were pretty good. The shake was thick and creamy. The extra chocolate syrup was a nice touch. Service is friendly and efficient.

Once for breakfast and once for lunch or dinner. I've never had the seafood night, but it's been recommended multiple times in conversation and here in other reviews. Upon entering, dirty tables everywhere and it was so hard to find a clean table to sit at. Dirty floors, dirty windows, buffet with people hovering over it while standing in line to pay their bill. It's ok to have an older restaurant but they must keep it clean! My husband never uses a straw, but he did today - scared the cup may be dirty...we know some folks that come here so we stayed because we just needed to see if it got better and why they come...it's a hard no! Long wait, extremely salty food, sad presentation of the food appearance. I had images of the kitchen in my head after seeing the front of the house. We've never been to Cross City - assuming it's a fishing town - which is cool but other than that, not much here. The pros - waitress was nice and seemed to like her job. I liked all the patriotic decorations. Well we were really hoping to like this establishment, but not for us, oh well, we came, we tasted, we saw, and now we move on.

Our server was very nice and she answered all of our questions, of which we had many! We were able to sit outside on a nice spring morning before it got too hot. Last minute breakfast decision and wow I am so pleased that we decided on the Metro Diner!…read more As soon as we pulled up I had a good feeling about this place and I'll be honest coming from New York I miss my diners! Needless to say this the Metro diner truly surpassed my expectations. We walked in and were greeted immediately and asked if we would like to sit outside which is a covered area or indoors. We chose inside given it being a hot humid day and wanting that extra comfort. The vibe felt amazing with all the smiles and yes even though busy all the wait staff was hopping doing their business! We were seated and told about the specials and given the menu. I was unsure what I wanted because I think I could have eaten a little bit of everything! I did ask the waitress a couple of suggestions and one of them was the pancakes I had chosen. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner all day! How cool is that and rare. They had a chicken and waffle special that was actually half a chicken ( pieces ) fried with Belgium waffles, powdered sugar and sweet strawberry butter served with their signature sweet and spicy sauce. I'll be honest when I had seen someone else get their plate I was surprised. It looked absolutely incredible and well tremendous. On their specials they had banana pudding pancakes or waffles, this also sounded amazing. It had walnuts, butter and powdered sugar and definitely banana. I am most certainly glad that I chose this as it was incredibly. Super fluffy, flavorful and the banana was not overwhelming there was a perfect balance of flavors. There was a sauce on them that I assume was the banana pudding. It was light and just enough to not overpower the pancake itself. We had also ordered croissant French toast and my son absolutely loved them. They were crispy on the outside yet fluffy and flavorful with a fantastic texture topped with some powdered sugar. Some ordered hash browns, these were also delicious and homemade with a great texture and the portion like all the other dishes pretty large. We had all tried the biscuits and gravy. These too were delicious with such a nice balance of flavors. The biscuits indeed homemade. We were all very pleased with everything. Some eggs over easy and bacon cooked perfectly. The coffee honestly the best I've had in years. I'm a coffee drinker and I cannot figure this coffee was outstanding! I had four cups and wish for more ha ha. Best of all I must compliment the service. I have not been to a restaurant of any sort with such attentive service, quality service as we received here in years. The waitress kept refilling my coffee and water, brought my son more soda ( even a container to take his home ) asked everyone if they needed anything at appropriate times and was extremely kind and considerate. I will be back and I highly recommend the Metro Diner for a great meal, quality service and relaxed environment that you will enjoy.
