Adult Shave Ice!! Finally a "Snow Cone" for us adults to make us fall in love with the sweet icy treats of our childhood!! We've been all over the Islands and have had shave ice at numerous stands, shops, trucks and tents, from North Shore to Front Street and they're all pretty similar. As long as the machine is shaving the ice (not grinding like our mainland snow cone) and the flavors are plentiful, there's not a huge difference. What better way to stand out than to create an adult version for those of us on vacation looking to partake in some fun adult beverages! At Breakwall the ice is shaved nice and soft, packed expertly by friendly smiling hosts and flavored to perfection with a multitude of flavor combinations. Besides the adult selections, that are kept in the freezer by the way, they have some natural flavorings that are perfectly subtle and sweet. The young man here today was more concerned with the customers in line that were more his age... both orders ahead of us were done right after they ordered, then on to the next in line, when it came to us, he took our order, we paid, then he right away started interacting with the young men behind us... they were trying to get a discount, because "Ashley" had told them they could have one, for which he had to leave to check on immediately, BEFORE even making the order that had already been paid for... Breakwall Shave Ice has pretty good shaved ice. The portion sizes were pretty good, the syrup was poured liberally leaving no patches of plain ice, and ice itself was pretty high quality; though it wasn't the most finely chopped ice i've seen, it relatively fluffy. The first cons: the add-ons were expensive yet still underwhelming; the ice cream was a dollar just for a tiny scoop, and the "natural flavors" (aka all the good flavors) were a dollar for each "natural flavor". But wait. There's more. My family arrived here after the two other shaved ice places we arrived at were unexpectedly closed due to one reason or another, so we got in line. I didn't think much of it at the moment, most desert places in Hawaii have long lines (for whatever reason), and this line wasn't even that long, 20ft at most. Spoiler alert: it took ONE HOUR to get our shaved ice, you could say that the employees were going pretty slow. The wait was absolutely disgusting just for a measly shaved ice. read more

Do I want to experience shave ice - all day, every day? Yes, but my wife AND my body says I shouldn't so I don't. However, I did not miss this opportunity to skip lunch and make my meal out of an Adult Shave Ice. My mad sweet tooth led me to order the Mudslide, but I was not upset by this decision remotely. Each bite was a delight, but even more-so when I made it to the bottom of the cup where the oreo ice cream could be found. This is where the true magic happened. The shave ice was great, but the best thing was how the server treated us - we got our shave ice and sat down at a table in the patio (shared with all the other restaurants in the little complex) but the table shook and the shave ice spilled all over the place! I got a great acai bowl back in December 2020, so I went back today to order the exact same item - Puff the magic dragon. What I got was extremely disappointing, too liquid-y, not nearly as much fruits as last time. So I asked if the staff could redo it because it looked too soupy compared to the one I got last time. To my surprise, the staff lectured me on how it's supposed to be like a "juice". I told her that it was completely opposite of what I got from here before. this was the first shave ice place my lady and i visited during our stay in maui. we were very impressed by the flavors and it was cool that they had adult shave ice too. we actually came here twice. i'll talk about the first visit first. i ordered the cherry and pineapple shave ice and my lady ordered the tiger's blood and vanilla. cherry and pineapple was a really good combination and a great first shave ice to get for our week. the flavors were great and the ice was.... shavey? it was good. my lady loved her tiger's blood and vanilla. she said they got the flavors just right and every other shave ice place we would go to would be judged with breakwall as the flavor standard. fyi, so far no place has matched or surpassed breakwall's syrup flavor according to her. so the second visit, my lady just got her usual tiger's blood and vanilla. but there was a different person pouring the syrup and they didn't give her as much as the person from the first trip. she was not a fan of the second trip. she said it didn't taste as good and she wished the first person was pouring the syrups again. if you're grabbing food in the area, add this to your meal afterwards or if you're walking by, make a quick stop (there hasn't been a long line the times we've gone) and grab yourself a shave ice or a dole whip or some soft serve. maybe we'll give this place another visit before we leave. read more

I was a lucky customer who discovered Breakwall and Javie when they were new on Prison St. My fam loved the service and Ohana spirit. In fact, Javie (co-owner) told my young adult kids were to go for Karaoke, and then met us there after work! Such a hoot! But...I digress...shave ice!!
