Visited Brick Oven Bistro for the first time recently. My husband and I ordered 1 French onion soup, 1 house salad, and 1 pizza special to share for dinner. We enjoyed our food a lot but we thought the atmosphere could use some improvement. The French onion soup was classic and very good, and we loved the white balsamic dressing on the house salad (it had hints of garlic). The pizza special (chicken fajita) was flavorful and we liked the medium-thin crust. However, we were seated towards the back of the restaurant near the side-door (close to the bar) and our meal was continuously disrupted by the freezing winter air that blew in as guests entered/exited the restaurant. This occurred nearly every 10 minutes and was very uncomfortable. Also, our server did not stop over to ask how we liked our meals and it was tough to get our waters refilled. This section of the restaurant seemed too dimly-lit compared to the front half of the restaurant. Overall I would return for the food and reasonable prices, but I would not have high expectations in regards to service/atmosphere. read more

Banana pepper dip starter was delicious, we had extra dip to use with our main dishes. Our table got the mushroom pizza shown, the big time spark and bistro white along with a beef on weck sandwich. Would have given a 5/5 if it weren't for the beef for the sandwich which seemed to be lacking that extra flavor other places like Charley the Butcher has (although the roll was amazing!) Went to dinner tonight here for the first time. I was a little skeptical thinking it would just be ho hum. We ordered pizza and wings. Margarita brick oven and then the wings with the house special sauce. Everything was cooked perfectly! The cheese on the pizza was fresh and the crust was crispy perfection. The wings were done perfectly crispy as ordered. They were a little busy but I understand why. Every dish that past our table looked amazing and I can't wait to go back! Fair prices. Clean restaurant. Nice atmosphere. Excellent craft beer selection and wine list! They take reservations but it's not necessary. Totally covid compliant, I felt very comfortable. So we were a group of four, with only one of our party having been here before. We each ordered an entree, which were OK, but nothing special. My pizza sauce was super salty in only certain sections and bland in others. I've had brick oven pizza quite a bit. This crust was like a cracker and tasteless. I could put all of that aside, but as we were figuring out the bill and tip (we still left 20%), another server came to our table, tapped her nails on the tabletop and told us she needed our table. Mind you, we made reservations, and there were two booths and a large high top of 6-8 seats empty. I understand a restaurant needs to turnover tables, but the approach could have been asking politely, and a smart business person would have asked us to move to the bar. We probably would have stayed to continue the conversation, but instead we were rushed out. One and done for us. None of us will be back. read more

I love this place. My positive dining experiences are based on a balance of good food, great service and atmosphere and here you can check all the boxes. I asked my friend to take me somewhere I have never been in her neighborhood and she took me here. Although it wasn't 5 stars, I had an absolutely wonderful meal. It was just the 2 of us and her 20 month old. He recently became very active and spent the entire meal trying to play with everything and go everywhere. The staff was super helpful with him and gave him some bread to munch on and some "toys" to play with (1oz plastic cups for stacking). The server was very attentive to our needs. I ordered the French onion soup to start - the broth was very flavorful but it didn't really have many onions in it. It was lighter on the cheese than a typical Buffalo French onion soup but I didn't mind at all. They have an extensive beer menu too which had a lot of rarer types that City bars have but it was slightly less expensive here. I just went with the Session for $4.00. For my meal, I had the Beef on Weck pizza. The crust was thin which is how I like it. It's hard to find thinner crust here in Buffalo. The pizza was good but not the greatest. It came with horseradish on it - which I expected to make it spicy. It was not spicy at all, which I'm sure is a way to make it appeal to more people but I prefer to actually taste the horseradish on my beef. The cheese was light and the sauce was delicious. Everything here went beyond my expectations but I did have low expectations since I did not realize that South Buffalo had nicer places like this. I would go back but I would like to try one of their entrees instead next time. read more

Ok so some words of wisdom: If the pizza says it has goat cheese it will also come covered in mozzarella. I specifically picked the mushroom pizza because it had goat cheese as the topping, which doesn't get me sick. It came with the whole thing layered with mozz too. So much so I wasn't able to pick out the mushrooms and onions and just munch those. Maybe not a huge thing, but people with dietary restrictions rely on a menu's accuracy. We also tried the banana pepper dip, which was essentially just cream cheese and mayo warmed up. We were just super disappointed. So we had 2 pizzas and an app (only water to drink) and it was $42 plus tip. read more

I used to be a regular at Brick Oven Bistro when I lived within a block of it. The menu has gone through some changes over the years but it's consistently good. While I've never had a bad meal there and often enjoy just stopping in for a drink, it's a weird layout and I feel like years after opening, it still doesn't look finished. There's a dining area, a weird deli or bakery case that's always been empty, then more seating past that and the bar. The empty case looks terribly strange and really should be removed if it's not being used. The food here is not cheap for South Buffalo, but it is delicious and prepared properly. They have a wonderful beet salad that's a great starter but a bit small for the price. They also have an excellent burger, but their real specialties are the pizzas. Unlike many Southtowns places, this place offers thin crust pizza and it's great. So many places really just top off a mound of dough. These are true specialty pizzas. My favorite is the beef on weck pizza. The first time I ordered it I was hesitant, but now I almost exclusively choose it. The crust is wonderful and it's done to perfection. It's enough for two people to split but also a good size for one person if you'd like to take a few slices home. The bar has a decent wine and beer selection and I can often find a new IPA to try which I like. Drinks aren't overpriced and you always manage to bump into someone you know if you're a South Buffalo regular. read more

Really enjoyed dinner here. I had the Short Rib, it was a good size hunk of meat, very tender, excellent flavor, served with what tasted like a homemade pasta with mushroom sauce and peas. It was outstanding. My wife had the Chicken & biscuit, which is essentially chicken stew over biscuits, it was very tasty also. The boys split a pepperoni pizza, all I got to try from that was the crust, they ate the whole thing, which is unusual, so it must have been good! Good beer selection. Looked for a place to eat dinner that was near our hotel. This place was a 5 min drive. I glanced through some reviews and pictures and couldn't resist trying the beef short rib with the fresh made pappardelle pasta. My husband tried the bone in pork chop because we haven't had one of those since Canyon Creek took it off their menu. We also shared the French onion soup. Let me just say, I always forget that the portions are so much larger in the States! It sucks because my stomach has shrunk and I don't eat as much. I really, really wanted to take a doggy bag home but our hotel doesn't have a microwave. Anyways, the beef short rib was a fair sized portion and there was plenty of pasta. The meat was super tender, I didn't even need a knife to cut it and the pappardelle was just the right texture and all of that topped off with a well-flavoured gravy. It was like I was in heaven! Needless to say, I only at maybe half of my food. I made my husband finish the meat. It couldn't go to waste! The pork chop was about an inch and a half think, but it was deliciously tender and juicy! It was nicely flavoured and came with garlic mashed potatoes and a stir-fried mix of vegetables (green and yellow zucchini, peppers, onions, carrots). Usually our favorite spot for "Smitty's wings" and also get the meat lovers pizza. Wings were not edible. We ordered extra crispy but they were soggy and had the wrong sauce. Server 'confirmed' with the kitchen that it was the correct order but the side of sauce confirmed it was not what we ordered. Not even close. The pizza was also a huge disappointment, it was also soggy and nothing like what is normally served. Typically we wait 30 minutes for our food so when it came out in 10 minutes we should have known something was wrong. Cost with tip was close to $80, and will likely be our last dollar we spend there. Server was very good but we want food close to what we order! read more

I've only been here twice but I love the ambience and the servers. The pizza is always delicious and you don't have a long wait time to be seated or served. They also have outdoor seating and a great craft beer menu. I'm dissatisfied with their brunch menu. I ordered a spinach, mushroom, feta omelet with hash browns. I love food and will eat anything but I just couldn't finish the omelet or hash browns. The hash browns were boiled and probably thrown on the grill. They were mushy. The omelet had so much feta it would make you sick and the mushrooms were from a can and very rubbery. I was disappointed. I'll definitely be back just not for brunch. read more

Good service, but the server couldn't answer allot of our questions. (how some things tasted, etc) Nice atmosphere and clean restrooms. Daily soup chicken corn chowder- no trace of chicken anywhere. Had good flavor, not too salty, but it was super liquidy...I've never had a 'chowder' that was basically broth. Buffalo chicken wings- very good flavor, but the chicken was a littlleee dry. only a little. the blue cheese on the side was absolutely awesome-- not too strong of cheesiness, and it had chunks of cheese, which made it even better. Salmon dinner- It came out decently quick, good portions. There were two different sauces, which tasted good, the tangy brown sauce, similar to sweet and sour went well with the salmon. The salmon was a little overcooked for my liking though, made it rough. it came on a bed of risotto with asparagus and chopped peppers. I again loved the flavor, but the risotto was a bit hard and undercooked. Special pizza: Steak, mushrooms, truffle, and garlic aioli. Pretty good. The crust was not exactly thin or crispy though. Someone else mentioned this, and I agree ---it had the consistency of a flatbread. Overall, the flavors in this restaurant are really good. Our Wednesday Night networking group met at Brick oven Bistro last night for our bi-monthly pow-wow. All I can say is, what a cool place to have right on the Buffalo/Lackawanna border. A solid selection of craft beers; both bottles and on tap - and not an extensive menu, but what they have is unique without being outlandish, and delicious. And as the name suggests, they have a variety of Brick Oven pizzas to tempt you with. I got the sausage pizza, which was wonderfully spicy. I swapped a slice with another colleague that ordered the white pizza and I found the white pizza to be just as hearty and tantalizing. I give it a 4. I will review and revise that after my next visit though. I want to try something else on the menu first. Now, excuse me while I enjoy my leftovers from last night at Brick Oven Bistro! read more

was looking for something to eat while waiting at a tattoo parlor so we were away from home. i picked this place because it said they had delivery. After choosing that as my option, they asked for a delivery address which I then typed in. They asked how much of $ for a tip (I assumed for the delivery driver) would I like to leave so I added a tip to my bill. 30 minutes later I called to check on my order and they tell me they don't do delivery!!! WHY did they have that as an option, why did they allow me to punch in the address and WHY did they ask for a tip? My second trip in a week. Food is very good. Had a burger that was terrific. Done medium as ordered, it was well over 12 oz with lettuce, tomato on a fresh bun. Fresh and juicy with delicious hand cut crispy fries. Sharon's chicken Marsala was served over mashed potatoes. The tender chicken breast was covered with a rich Marsala sauce. Waitress was personable and efficient although it took a while for the food to come out of the kitchen, even though it was not very busy. read more

I just don't get it! On the first visit the food and pizza was good, the next two times it was burnt and we couldn't even eat it. Fast forward to today ...I called in a take out order for a special birthday dinner(last chance) I specifically asked to please make sure that the crust isn't burnt, plus when I arrived early for pick up I asked again. I also ordered fingers which were good, but one was super soggy...I asked to have the celery and blue cheese in a separate bag, but they refused to listen to that too and it was wet from the wet celery. After I got home I called to speak with a Manager or owner, but there wasn't anyone on duty that could help me. I just don't get why a pizzeria would keep burning the crust especially when requested not to. So I give up on them! I had brunch here for the second time recently. I joined a group of friends last Sunday, and one ordered the watermelon feta salad, along with scrambled eggs and toast. I thought the salad was an odd choice to have on a winter menu, but the dish worked. Description from the menu: feta, watermelon, mixed greens, cucumber, & balsamic vinaigrette $ 6. I ordered breakfast pizza (tomato ricotta, scrambled eggs, sausage, tomato, onions & mozzarella $10), and asked for no sausage. Our friendly, able and attentive server said bacon could be substituted for sausage, but I passed. The pizza came out piping hot and the crust was perfect. Coffee was good (I'm not picky about coffee, so my opinion may not mean much) and plentiful. The tea drinkers were not ignored, and more hot water was brought often, too. Not surprisingly because I thought it was going to be bad just surprising because I haven't heard of this place before. I started with a banana pepper dip or an appetizer and I have been dreaming of it ever since. You can do take out for their pizzas. Everyone is super friendly and I have never had a dish that I didn't like. You can't go wrong with anything you order here. And may I suggest being the ballsy one who orders the steak sandwich if you're there for brunch. The rest of the table will envy your decision. I have been here on a couple of different occasions, and I am always impressed. The service, the ambience, the wait time, and the quality of the food just goes above and beyond. This past Thursday I ordered the daily seafood pasta. The pasta was fresh, and accompanied by calamari and perfectly prepared scallops, and finished with a light tomato broth. If this was a regular menu item, I would order it time and time again. I am also impressed with both the beer and wine selection. There really is something for everyone. I'll start out by saying I love this place for drinks and pizza. The mushroom pizza is just amazing, and my boyfriend tells me the stuffed pepper pizza is great too. We also absolutely love the Carozza for an appetizer. Seriously, if you come here and don't get the Carozza, you're doing Brick Oven Bistro wrong. For drinks, the prices are good and they have many options. Usually I get the Sangria, but I'm thinking that's a summer option because I ordered it yesterday and was told the bartender made it "special" for me. It honestly tasted like house wine that was shaken over ice with an orange and a lemon slice. My boyfriend got the Resurgent, which was a loganberry beer. That tasted pretty good! The Carozza was perfect as always. For dinner we decided to split the mushroom pizza and an order of the house scallops with risotto. To be fair, we ordered "risotto" but didn't see it anywhere else on the menu, and we got a plain order of risotto instead. The pizza was wonderful, but the risotto tasted like they used really awful wine that went bad, and it also tasted like it was added at the end instead of used to deglaze the pan. We were really disappointed. We actually had never tried entrées at BOB before, but I think from now on we'll stick to the pizzas. The entrées are also a bit steep in price, whereas I think the pizzas are much fairer. Basically my advice to anyone coming here for dinner is to stick with the pizzas and get the Carozza. Also don't order the risotto unless they stop using wine that's gone bad. read more

The Good... The beer selection was good if you like smaller name micro brews. The food however was the highlight of the night. I ordered the stuffed peppers for an appetizer which were both tasty and spicy, as stuffed hot peppers should be. For my main course I ordered the stuffed pepper pizza which was among the best I've ever had. Also, service was fast and friendly. The Bad... Love this place. This is always a go-to for my wife and I when we are looking for a bite to eat or want to get out for a date night. Strongly recommend the Hot Pepper Dip or Steak Sandwich.
