This is my favorite place to eat at the Food Lab. I was drawn to the Butternut Ricotta. I was confused when my order was ready. I thought I was ordering pasta. It doesn't say Pizza anywhere. The butternut Ricotta pizza was messy but amazing!!! My only complaint was they refused to give us plates. It's very messy to share a pizza with a friend over a box. Best pizza in Riverside. It takes a hot minute for them to prepare this wood-fired pizza, but it's worth it. Their appetizers and desserts aren't numerous but the pizza is the star of the show and I'd rather spend my time with the main event. Can be surprisingly un-busy but can still take a while. The wait time for our pizza was a bit long, but I imagine it's because it is baked in a wood fired oven. Our pizza was piping hot when it arrived. The cheese was nicely melted, and the crust on the bottom was a bit charred from the oven. The pizza was delicious, and we kept reaching for more slices. Woodfired pizza in the best (round) boxes ever! My first indication they had finally opened was passing a lady carrying a box on the sidewalk behind the Food Lab. So last night we checked them out after chores. Rob Swanson, that's the company name for a pizza with pepperoni and sausage. At $17 it's definitely pricier than, say MOD or Blaze Fired, but in-line with the Woodfire Grill further down the street. Beer options are available here and I laughed when I saw a salad on the menu called a "First Date Salad." While busy it wasn't as crowded as the opening weekend and we found bar stool seating at their counter, which was cool. The pizza took around 12-minutes to assemble and cook in the woodfired oven. The smell of (birch perhaps?) lends a pleasant aroma. Finally they called my name and we dived in. The crust was really good! Light, bubbled in a way only wood ovens can, and less greasy than expected. After eating a couple of slices we discovered the clever design of the recycled box. Dimples on the lid and bumps and channels below to divert moisture and oils away from the crust. Since we ate on the spot the effectiveness of the design wasn't put the test. Overall, I'd definitely come back. The salad options seem good although I didn't see any being made. They also have a great selection of cookies for dessert. read more

The rating lost stars due to the staff. First, there's a guy working the oven and point of sale station. While ordering he was extremely impatient and short. As impatient and short as he was, he was also extremely slow, to the point where it seemed as though he was deliberately trying to work slow. None of staff looked friendly nor did they ever offer napkins and utensils to any of the other guests who were also picking orders up. The very aloof employee with the spider tattoo under his ear also left an order open for which someone didn't pay and a few expletives exited his mouth in front of some guests, including myself. If you're the owner reading this, you might want to think about who is running your shop as what we witnessed will absolutely result in losing our business for good. So I have been to the riverside food labs and finally got the chance to try this place. It's very classic wood fired pizza and they have the classic like margarita etc. They also have some unique pizzas like mushroom Brie or the Ron Swanson. Also you can clearly see them put in fresh logs of wood as they cook pizzas to order. This place is not a great option if your looking for fast or quick pizza. They take pride in their products and it shows because they aren't rushing each item but work at a good pace. The quality is honestly very similar to a European style pizza place. The pepperoni is fairly salty like higher quality pepperoni taste so I personally love that and the salty flavor. My mother in law wasn't a huge fan of the salty flavor but I honestly love it. It's very Naples style pizza and it's thinner crust. I think this is definitely a place to try if your going to the labs. And they also look like they had some yummy large cookies that I will have to try next time. read more

Wow, this is definitely in my top 5 vegan pizzas I've ever had. Their homemade vegan cheese is amazing and doesn't have a funky texture like a lot of the processed vegan cheese out there. Let me first say that I'm definitely a pizza snob. So I'm always leery of trying pizza joints when I can make a pizza at home better than most places. However we were enjoying drinks at Wilson's next door so we ordered from here. I ordered a simple Margherita pizza and my wife ordered the Jalapeño popper pizza. They both were delicious. The toppings were ample. The pizza crust had a nice crisp from the wood fire oven and the ingredients were top quality. Most of all the pizza's were evenly cut (which is a HUGE pet peeve of mine).
