My partner and I ate here on a weekend get away trip to the area. We specifically left the Long Beach/Ilwaco area of Washington to come here, as the places in Long Beach were small, crowded, and didn't offer the kind of gluten free safety assurances my very Celiac partner needs to feel comfortable eating at. She has eaten at Bridgewater many times, and it's always been Celiac safe, but it was a first for me. We arrived around 1200 PM on a Sunday, right as COVID pandemic measures were starting to be lifted. Despite all that, there was plenty of parking available. When we entered, a couple was in front of us. The hostess asked if they had reservations, which they didn't, and she said it would be fifteen minutes or so for a wait-list. However! She then immediately went and found a porter to bus and clean a table for the couple. Then she asked if we had reservations. We didn't, but she did the same thing; we were seated within minutes. Same with the couple behind us. I guess my take away is: make reservations but they'll do their absolute best to accommodate you if they can. The dining room is open, spacious, and beautifully designed. There is an outdoor pier sitting area, where they've erected clear wind barriers for outdoor seating. It's needed, because there was a heavy breeze that we'd feel everytime the door to the pier was opened, but the people out there seemed to be doing fine. I ordered the Hawaiian chicken sandwich: grilled chicken breast with pineapple, cheese, and teriyaki sauce, along with fries. The waiter suggested adding bacon to the sandwich, which sounded incredible, so of course I did. My partner got the Painted Hill cheeseburger with fries. One of the huge unique thing here is their cranberry-blueberry mustard. My partner had it on her cheeseburger and we got an extra side for dipping fries in. It's such a different and unique taste...fruity but with a real zing behind it. The chicken sandwich was good. I felt the sauce overpowered the chicken just a little bit. However, the bacon made a great counter to the pineapple and the whole thing was balanced pretty well. I didn't dislike the sauce per se, it just was a much stronger flavor than the rest of the mildness or the sandwich, so the bacon really helped. I'd highly recommend the addition if going for the chicken. They had a great drink list and several brunch type options. I seriously considered the eggs Benedict before going with the chicken. My partner devoured her burger and the fries were excellent, crispy with a smooth interior. A great place for lunch with a fabulous view. Definitely a place to check out in Astoria. read more

Brunch with friends to say goodbye to a server from another restaurant who is moving away. The service is almost always good and was yesterday. The food was good enough though my wife was hoping for clams or mussels in her clam and mussel chowder. That omission was unexpected. I think of it as a signature dish going back to the days when the restaurant started in Long Beach, Washington. The original owners are retired. Nothing lasts forever. It is still worth dining here. We heard from other sources that a chef left since we last dined here. Undoubtedly things will return to the normal high quality before long. read more

We got to astoria as part of our Goonies day. However by the time we got there we were all hungry for lunch. We were googling gluten free and vegetarian but google wasn't showing us much. However this restaurant did pop up. We opted to try it. My husband and stepson got the french dip sandwiches and thoroughly enjoyed those! I got a salad and a soup. My daughter got a bowl of soup and some gluten free rolls. They do have their menu marked as to what can be made gluten free or vegetarian. My son got a reuben and he thought it was a little bit soggy. It is a little bit higher $$ but honestly a lot of oregon/washington area seemed to be a little bit $$ There is option for indoor/outdoor seating. We opted for indoors since it was a cool windy day. The food is still on average and better than most local restaurants. But the prices are egregious, such as $48 for Louisiana Gumbo.....I love gumbo and often make it myself (being from Louisiana). So, at $48 you should be getting about 5 gallons of gumbo....I really do not believe that will happen .....Check out the price of the Porkbelly, then realize you will get 4 bites. The staff is still really good, with the exception of the bartender.....Never said one word to us...no greeting, introduction...nothing...we placed our order without him ever uttering a word.....it was fun to watch actually, but the guy needs to look for another line of work. Absolutely beautiful!!! Service was SUPERB and the food was delicious!!! Highly recommend the mushroom soup! We also got the pesto chicken sandwich and the club sandwich and we're both very happy! We came for lunch and sat on the patio with our dog. They have these "covers" over the table so you don't get annoyed by the wind. I couldn't recommend this place more!! We liked this restaurant so much three years ago, that we ate there every day! Returned this year and the haddock was burnt ( deep fried). The cook argued with us through the waitress, but reluctantly replaced it with tempura batter. Blamed it on the oil they use...if the oil isn't performing REPLACE THE OIL! Don't tell your client you can't do anything because of the oil. They did replace the fish, but not the now cold fries. UNBELIEVABLE!!! Early supper was almost $100. Great space, great food, and great service. I really can't complain about dining in a super open and clean space on the dockside overlooking the Columbia river at sunset hours in Astoria. The Cioppino was yummy with super fresh seafood, could have used a tad bit more acidity but loved the toasted bread. The Mushroom Ragout was so novel to me, grilled mushroom on a bed of canelli beans topped with grated parm. Never had anything like it before but I'm a fan. We came for dinner because our hotel was within walking distance, and were pretty impressed. The resultant was not busy - PNW had a snow storm coming and it was freezing code outside. The hostess thoughtfully placed us close to the fireplace. The ambiance was fantastic. The whole place felt warm and cozy, yet upscale. We ordered steamed clams, duck breast, and ribeye. The white wine sauce for the clams were fantastic. I had to asked for another basket of bread so I can have more sauce. The clams, however, were a tad overcooks. A lot of the clams fell out of their shells, and we kept finding empty shells. The duck breast was so tender and juicy. Wish the portion was bigger! The steak had fantastic flavor. I asked good medium rare, but the steak I gut was definitely more on the rare side. The roasted veggies were tender, but the fingerling potatoes were a little underdone. I did enjoy my dining experience very much and definitely will come back when in the area again. read more

I went here a couple months ago on a day trip to astoria and I'm still thinking about the teriyaki brussel sprouts. they've probably rotated the menu by now, but i'll definitely be back. there seems to be real intention put into the menu and the food that's served. it rivals some of the most expensive portland restaurants I've been to at less than half the price. our server was was very attentive and friendly, but also had a dry sense of humor that kept us entertained all evening. i highly recommend planning a stop here on your next astoria day trip! i can't recommend this place enough! read more

I used Open Table to make Valentines day reservations a month early. As time grew closer my wife mentioned that Bridgewater Bistro was offering a special menu for Valentines day. This turned me off because the typical special holiday menu is designed for the restaurant to streamline kitchen preparation and turn their tables faster at a profitable price point. Not usually in the best interest of the guest that is looking for a nice leisurely dinner venue. Before I cancelled, I called and was assured that the full menu was also available! We arrived on time and was advised to have a seat on the sofa in the waiting area as they were just a little behind. I ordered glasses of wine at the bar and enjoyed the talented live jazz piano and vocal music. We were seated upstairs about 30 minutes later and received an apology that our wine order had "fallen through the cracks". Fortunately, that was the only negative for our wonderful Valentines Day meal. Our server Sean expedited our lost wine order, brought tasty bread, fresh crisp green salads and finally our entrees. I enjoyed a generous & delightful Bouillabaisse with half a fresh Dungeness crab, mussels, salmon, prawns and cod. Her tender short ribs were prepared perfectly and served over polenta and sided with fresh veggies. Service was attentive and paced well so we never felt rushed. Sean worked at a frenetic pace to ensure satisfaction at all of his tables. It was surprising to be able to enjoy a perfect leisurely meal during a packed occasion! I cannot say enough wonderful things about our experience here! From the second we walked in, the host greeted us with such a cheerful attitude, asked if we had ever been in, and showed us some cool features of the restaurant while on the way to our table. From start to finish, every single member of the staff was incredibly kind, efficient with service/refills and willing to help us with whatever we needed. Our server, Mia, was the star of the show. There when you need her without being intrusive, warm and personable, very communicative and just an absolute delight. The food was fantastic to boot. Every single thing we had was wonderful; the oyster shooters were generous with the oysters, my salmon BLT was cooked to a perfect medium, and my boyfriends tuna melt was the star of the show. We finished off with a slice of the cheesecake of the day; which was the perfect size to share. The prices were extremely fair, and the service was just absolutely incredible. The view of the Bridge feom the patio is absolutely spectacular! Even on a gray cloudy day, it's stunning and for that reason alone, it's worth visiting this restaurant. The inside dining area is also beautiful, lots of oak, oak barrels, windows and natural light flooding the area. The bar, though not open, is gorgeous too. They are taking all COVID-19 precautions to ensure you have a safe experience. We were there for an early dinner after taking a ride to Astoria to get out of Portland for the day. We knew this would be our dinner destination based on location and reviews. We sat outside and first were given a tiny table but they moved us to a larger spot when we asked. Cocktails were served quickly and hit the spot. The menu is varied; of course there are several seafood items, some beef dishes, chicken, tacos and pasta entrees. Lots of salad choices also. I was craving pasta with fresh crab or shrimp but their pasta of the day was Bolognese, which is a very rich red sauce made with ground beef. The waitress offered to add fresh crab which threw me off! Like, I think that's illegal! Fresh crab mixed with ground beef, red wine and tomatoes? No way. Never. She came back with a 2nd option which was to add crab to a mushroom Alfredo sauce, a better option I guess, but for me, a waste of the crab. When you have fresh crab, it needs to be the star of the dish. My friend was in hysterics at this point, laughing while watching my reactions and failed attempt to explain why one should never top Bolognese Pappardelle with light fresh crabmeat, so rather than prolong the potential options, I chose the fish and chips knowing it would be fresh. My friend did the same and neither of us were disappointed. Literally the best fish and chips I have ever had. The fish was so light, the coating just as light with no greasy texture or aftertaste. My only regret was not ordering the larger portion! They were that darn good. We also had an appetizer which was a cheesecake with crab and mushroom Alfredo - probably why they offered me that sauce for the pasta. As an appetizer, the sauce on the cheese served with sliced baguette, was delicious. We lingered after dinner, enjoying a glass of wine, taking in the view, and marveling at the massive cargo ships sail under the bridge. Great ending to a wonderful day adventure. Not bad. No complaints, and it was fine and normal food. Came here while we were here for one night for a stop during a mini road trip. Two of us shared the Brussels sprouts, crab cheesecake, short ribs, bowl of chowder, a side of french fries, brownie sundae, and two cocktails each. I like the crab cheesecake the best, though the crab didn't seem like an integral part of it. The chowder was nice, and had a little curry flavor which made it interesting. It was on the tinner side than I'm used to for a chowder but I didn't mind that, just an observation. Short ribs and sprouts were both a bit salty, but my spouse liked them that way. We also had two cocktails each and those were nice too. Total came out to about 150 before tip. Service was great, and everyone from our servers to host were really welcoming and friendly. We kept it light: --Brussels sprouts--not crispy as described on the menu, but smoky and a bit sweet with the sauce. Great dish! --steak tips with mushrooms--outstanding. The little dish that it came in kept the food hot to the last bites. This is a must-have dish, but get two if you have more than two people. --large salad--fresh greens and a light blue cheese dressing made this satisfying salad sing (say that three times fast). --clam and mussel chowder--exactly as billed and well executed, but we just prefer clams over mussels. The house Merlot was rich and warm. The Fort George Cavatica Stout was the reason we walked here, and we were not disappointed. We will definitely visit again. read more

I was tasked with finding a dinner spot during my family's stay in Seaside. I did a bit of research and saw that Bridgewater Bistro was one of the best local restaurants, so I put the reviews to the test. My family and I unanimously agreed that we had an overall great experience at Bridgewater Bistro. I made a dinner reservation a month in advance. At the time of when I phoned in, I specifically asked for an outdoor table due to Covid. On the day of our reservation our hosts acknowledged my request to sit outside, but he kindly confirmed if we really wanted to sit there. It was actually chilly that evening and would only get chillier as the night progressed. Mind you, they never pressured us to make a choice one way or another. They were totally down to serve us if we decided to sit outside. Everyone in my party said yes to sitting inside, and they were able to seat us in an open booth that was far enough from neighboring tables. It also had a glass partition between us and the booth next to us, so we felt comfortable enough. Customer service was great. The hosts were obviously wonderful for caring about our well-being and their flexibility in accommodating the last minute change. Our server was amazing as well. She was very friendly, attentive and helpful. We took her up on all her food recommendations, and she did not lead us astray! Only thing that could use improvement was the time management in the kitchen. Our appetizers came out pretty quickly after we ordered, but there was a huge gap in time between appetizers and entrees. I tried several things off the menu. The following includes my review of each item: - I loved the oysters. They come in quantities of 3's, and you can get them either raw or fried. I had them raw, and they tasted REALLY fresh. The shooter included an Absolut vodka cocktail sauce that had the right amount of spiciness to it. - Their clam and mussel chowder was quite unique. It reminded me a lot of a tomato bisque just with seafood and potatoes. I appreciated that it was loaded with clams and mussels. - I never had anything like the Dungeness crab cheesecake, and it blew me away. It was a savory cheesecake with crab and topped off with a rich, mushroom gravy. The bottom crust was made with pecans. My only complaint was that it was too small for $15. I shared it with 2 other people in my party, so the 3 of us got small slivers to taste. With that said, don't share this dish with others and indulge on it yourself. - I tried a ring of the fried calamari appetizer, which was totally fine. The squid was lightly battered, but the breading was seasoned. - I also tried a bit of the boneless braised short rib. The meat was super tender. Your knife could cut through it like butter. It had a nice sauce. - i absolutely loved my scallop entree, which was one of the dinner specials. The 3 scallops were pan seared and cooked so well. They had the perfect soft texture that you could easily bite into. I enjoyed the sautee of chopped veggies on top of the black (glutinous?) rice. I don't remember what the orange colored sauce was pureed from, but I think it may have been sweet potatoes. I felt that the whole dish was beautifully cohesive. read more

We've dined here twice, and both have been excellent experiences. On Monday, we dropped in late in the afternoon. According to the host, they'd had a very busy weekend. Instead of seating us immediately, she gently informed us that there were a number dishes they were out of because of the holiday rush. We were handed a menu with the missing dishes crossed out. She politely said, "Please take a look at this, and if you still want to dine with us, we would love it; however, we understand if you don't." Managing expectations is a huge but often overlooked component of customer service. We appreciated her letting us know ahead of time very much. We decided to give it a go in spite of the limited menu. Part of the reason we love the place is the atmosphere. It's modern but lodge like, and feels warm and comfortable. Bay views are possible from nearly every table. It's big but manages to be cozy at the same time. We opted for the same classic many choose at the coast; fish and chips. It's about as basic a meal as one can have, it's served nearly everywhere on the coast...but this meal was exceptionally good. The halibut had a gossamer light coating that was crisp, and complemented the mild tasting fish beautifully. The slaw salad was also lightly coated with a slightly sweet and peppery dressing. The small cup of it left me wanting more. The fries were not overly salted; crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside. Our server came by at least 3 times to check on us. She was efficient, and extremely at ease and friendly. The only caution I can give is this; Bridgewater Bistro is not for the bargain diner. The prices (in our opinion) aren't outrageous, but I guarantee there are many nearby places to spend less on fish and chips. But, the old adage "you get what you pay for" applies here. We got outstanding service, a beautiful dining room and view, and a memorable meal. What's not to love? read more

They were strictly holding for reservations, but Brandon ar the host stand started talking to us about other recommendations and eventually said he could help us out. My daughter and I LOVED the clam and mussel chowder, my husband's burger was delicious and perfectly cooked, and my son devoured his fish n chips. We were disappointed, the clam chowder was too watery, and not much clam in it at all. $14 for water with onions in it! Steamed clams was very plain, not much flavor. The salmon/brie was just ok, not much salmon, and didn't taste like smoked salmon. Steak tips was like grandma's beef stroganoff, not steak. The only thing that was good was the fried oyster, tasted fresh and good. We don't think we want to come back again. One of my friend was very disappointed and unhappy! He said it's not worth the price cause it's expensive and the food was not good. We were forced to eat the food because we paid for it! As the 5 stars might suggest, we really liked this place. I think it helped that it was a hop skip and a jump from our hotel, but it would have been worth a walk too. We had a reservation, which is good because for a random Wednesday night in October, there would have been a wait. Although they accidentally had marked our reservation for another night, the confusion was quickly cleared. I asked if they wanted to see my confirmation email and was told "no need, we believe you. We'll seat you immediately." They were so nice and quick to make us feel welcome. A feeling that continued throughout the rest of the meal. The service was stellar. Our server Matt made recommendations and was around regularly to make sure we always had what we needed and that everything was tasting good. When the restaurant was out of the short ribs, he worked with my husband to customize the duck dish. That ended up being really tasty. As was my trout with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. One of the night's specials. At the end of the meal, Matt even made a few recommendations for what to do in town, since it was our first night in Astoria. Something he obviously didn't have to do, but goes back to this restaurant's great ability to make us feel welcome.
