The chocolatier at Marti did her training in France, bringing over the strict Euro-sensibilities and adoration for the product, but combining it with innovative tropical flavors. I loved the uniqueness. They have a Durian flavored chocolate! Any of you who have ever resided, or traveled slooooowly through Southeast Asia know the excitement with which the dreaded durian season is anticipated. People from Burma, er... Myanmar to Sumatra have a love-hate for the malodorous fruit. The durian chocolate was outstanding. The more normal mango bon bon was very well received by the people murmuring around us. I thought the lavender was extremely fine. A green chocolate made with a leaf native to the Philippines was also very special. All of their chocolates were so fresh. They must've made them specially for the Chocolate Salon. I'm not sure if all these flavors are regularly available or seasonal. They also get props for being so nice, and explaining everything so well to the throng around their table. The chocolates are hand-crafted. Fairly pricey as these artisanal products tend to be. They are splurge worthy for a special occasion. I'm not talking Halloween.
