I walked in on a Sunday to try some of their sweets. The guy at the cashier (Fernando) was super friendly and made me feel welcomed immediately. I tried the gluten free chocolate walnut cookie which was delicious, especially for a gluten free dessert. In L.A. with my wife for a couple months and stopped in to Sweet Lady Jane to order a cake for Valentine's. They asked me if I wanted a message. Sure. "You're The Best". No brainer. Went to pick it up on the day and the half-attentive woman behind the counter opened the box to show me a cake that said "You The Best". I said, "You the best?" She smirked and closed the box, not registering that i t was obviously incorrect. I had to point out why that was a problem, not what I ordered, I was trying to get something nice for my wife, etc. At that point she acted hassled , there was a line, so I just said "forget it", took the cake and walked out. My wife and I had a laugh about it and we're living under a fascist authoritarian takeover, so ultimately who gives a shit, BUT... bottom line? The cake was... FINE. Baffling vis a vis the hype. Not anywhere near worth the price or the phoned-in service. The kicker was I posted their mistake with obvious disappointment on Instagram and they LIKED my post and said "Thank you for sharing! DO NOT GET THE BEVERLY CAKE!!! My boyfriend got me a cake from here for my birthday today, the Beverly, and the white cream/frosting inside tasted rancid. It was so sour and vinegary I thought, is there wine or raspberries or something in the cake? He didn't want me to know the cost so he didn't want to tell me where it was from until I made him try the inner part where the white cream is. He said "hmm it does taste off, its from sweet lady jane." I went on the website and looked up the flavor, what we were questioning must be some kind of wine flavor was actually "vanilla cream". A chocolate and vanilla cake. Blegghhh it was literally so curdled and rancid. For the smallest cake size being $90 I am super disappointed in the bakery and disgusted that I tried at least 2-3 bites. Honestly feeling a little sick and it's my dang birthday. I'm guessing the vanilla cream inside is milk based, so depending on when they made it, it went bad sooner than the rest of the cake. The "cream" is curdled and made any parts touching it also taste off, the spoiled taste permeated through the whole thing. (Side note: the lettering on the cake is not great, who would think this was $90?) Anyways he did call and get a refund, or they offered to replace it. I've loved Sweet Lady Jane's Triple Berry Cake for a long time. Back in July 2024, after getting a gel manicure at a nail salon in Larchmont, I noticed that Sweet Lady Jane had opened a location there. I was happy to see it, so I went in and bought two slices of cake. Normally, the Triple Berry Cake has white whipped cream on the outside with mixed berries inside. But that day, they didn't have the usual version -- instead, the only option available had a green exterior with berries inside. I didn't have much choice, so I bought that one. When I got home and tried it, the taste was very strange, and I was honestly disappointed. I haven't been back since then, but I will try the Triple Berry Cake again at a different location someday. read more

Recently had a slice of the coconut cake at the Larchmont location and it tasted as if it was previously frozen, soggy cake and hard frosting. Very disappointing. 2 days later had a red velvet cupcake at the Melrose location and again was disappointed, bland and flavorless. This is a great place, I adore the service here! Angel is always a great employee and love seeing him at their Larchmont location, super helpful and kind. Great customer service, the cakes are so beautiful. Absolutely delicious too. The only downside is, if you don't consume sugar as a regular part of your diet, or if you're sensitive to sugar consumption-- this stuff is SUGARY. I buy a single slice and I can't eat it all or I'll get sick. Once a slice lasted me four days because just single bites are SO packed with sugar. You'll get a sugar crash really fast on these. So if you're watching your health, diabetic, or anyone sensitive to sugar I'd be careful about your portions at this location. The cost here is also relatively high, so I'd recommend this place only as an occasional treat or for special occasions-- but it's perfect for those two things. Very cute interior as well! read more

Very sad to write this review. I originally gave this place one star. Seriously. But I'm giving it an extra star because they did give me good service when I got someone on the phone. Still, there are major growing pains this location is still in experiencing. This weekend was my son's 100 day celebration. It's a big big deal in my culture. I initially wanted to get a cake from harucake because they have amazing minimalistic 100 day cakes but they were sold out for the big day. So I remembered SLJ. I had ordered and enjoyed the triple berry cake for my bday last year after having gone so long without my beloved SLJ triple berry cake so I thought I should order it again for my son's 100 day celebration. I wanted to support SLJ's new location too. I saw on the website that they had a more minimalistic white cake design which is what I was looking for so I was really excited. All I wanted on top was "100" in black icing - very minimalistic, chic, simple. I got a call from them a couple days after I ordered and they checked in with me about the font, color, and that I only wanted "100" on it. I confirmed. I felt good knowing they cared enough to call and confirm. I also told them it was a special day. On the day of, I asked my brother to pick up the cake since it's closer to him while I prepped the tablescape for the photoshoot. When my brother picked up the cake, they showed it to him and he told me his jaw dropped at how awful the typography was. It looked like an intern or someone with no experience had done it. They told him this is what I ordered. My brother told me at this point he didn't know he could reject the cake when I already paid for it and they told him this is what I ordered. It's not like they can easily erase black icing on a white cake - would we be left w a gray topped cake? So anyway he accepted it, brought it to my house. We opened the box and ALL OF OUR JAWS DROPPED. How is it possible that the famous Sweet Lady Jane with the tried and true iconic triple berry cake w normal frosting could look like this? I immediately wondered if this would have happened had I just ordered the regular version of this that they make every day. The cake I got recently from them was fine. This one was embarrassing. For the price and fame you expect a certain level of professionalism and execution. The cake was the centerpiece for my 100 day table. We had to take photos from a lower angle to avoid showing the font on the cake. The important thing is that it tasted like the normal triple berry cake so it's what's on the inside that counts? We tried to laugh it off and enjoyed our little celebration. Today I was going through the photos and I got triggered and enraged all over again. What in the actual F. I dm'd the IG and no response even though I had spoke to them before and I can see that they read my message. I went on their website and filed a complaint. I called the store to finally talk to someone. I explained how upset I was about this cake for my sons's special day. The manager apologized and explained that the cake decorator was not in that day and that the cashier went ABOVE AND BEYOND to write "100" on my cake. Whoa whoa whoa. You are telling me that your experienced baker was not in so you made an executive decision to ask the cashier who has no baking experience to write with BLACK icing on a WHITE cake??? Without asking the customer if they'd be okay with it? He then explained that had I seen the cake and rejected it they could have made it right on the day of. I explained that it wasn't me who picked it up so it was too late by the time it got to me. He also mentioned that he gets his cakes from elsewhere(???) and that the fonts on those cakes are horrible... more horrible than what I got is what I'm assuming he was trying to say. Did he also pay $85 for a 6" cake from a famous cake store only to receive a cake w horrible fonts? When you are SLJ ppl expect a certain level of taste + looks. I don't want to be surprised on a busy day with how awful the centerpiece looks. He offered me a 20% refund because there is no extra charge for writing something on the cake and he was sorry. I told him that the partial refund is nice but honestly going forward it would be better for them as a business to communicate these choices with the customer. He reiterated again that I could have rejected it if I saw it and didn't like it and that the cashier went ABOVE AND BEYOND. The IG also dm'd me finally to offer a partial refund. Again, it's about putting in a better communication process with the customer. I get that you are a growing business and that you just opened this location so please listen to your customers who love your cakes... just call us BEFORE you make wild decisions like this. The person ordering the cake isn't always the one picking it up and they have no idea what you and I talked about nor would they feel like they have the authority to reject a cake in my behalf. read more

We got the sea salt brownie, the strawberry cupcake, birthday confetti, as well as, the carrot cake and The Beverly (don't judge us we like to taste a lot of things)! We loved everything (and I mean everything) but I personally LOVED AND AM OBSESSED WITH THE BEVERLY CAKE! Angel and Sammy. The dynamic duo here! Both were so helpful and kind. Ordered a 14" TBC for my daughter's 6th birthday. Angel made sure to call me the day before scheduled pickup to confirm and make sure the special requests were confirmed. Day of pickup: Sammy and angel were both on scene and made sure the cake was perfect. During transport across the street, I pushed the box and a small area of the frosting was damaged. Angel made sure that it was repaired perfectly and was even willing to deliver the cake once it was finished. Haven't tried all locations but what I have tried has been consistent and they deserve praise for this and their lovely, thoughtful and delicious cakes. The attention to detail and level of sweetness is chef's kiss. Cake is never dried out and the flavor combinations are gorgeous. For example, the white chocolate lemon is perfectly balanced and decadent while still feeling elegant...like the way wedding cake should be but so often is not. The new Venetian is also a tiramisu lover's dream. I'm grateful they're still around and producing such high quality cakes! read more

A friend and I stopped in on a Wednesday afternoon. We parked on a side street near the residential area- the farmer's market was going on so parking was especially difficult to find! The person working at the counter was nice enough to answer our questions about the desserts we were interested in. He mentioned we could just get a slice of any of the cakes if we didn't want the whole cake. Prices were decent with slices averaging $13. My friend ended buying a cupcake and some smaller items. The nice customer service person ended up adding a complimentary slice of the princess cake since he wanted us to try it ! It was the most delicious cake I've had in a while. The layers of custard went so well with the outer layer of marzipan. I hope to come back and get another slice of the princess cake! read more
