This place has been one of my favorites for at least 20 years! Everything is baked fresh daily! They have season sugar cookies that are amazing!!! The carrot cake that they have by the slice very occasionally is a cream cheese sugary perfection dream. The chocolate and peanut butter cupcakes are to die for - and you can order the little ones and try all the flavors and not feel a bit of guilt because they are smaller....at least that's what I tell myself so I can order 3,4 or 10 . The cinnamon rolls are a crowd favorite if you have company over and need a breakfast item to serve. They also make a great gift! Their tea breads are also wonderful host gifts. This is a nice little bakery across from Clark High School. They are busy in the morning and at lunch time due to the school crowd it seems. I like buying my bread here. My favorites are the birdman and the 9 grain loaf. They will slice the bread for you. I also like their cookies. The lemon sugar cookies are very refreshing with just the right amount of lemon and sugar on top. The chocolate chip cookies are also good because they are generous with the chocolate chips. One big difference between this location and the Broadway location is that they carry sammiches. I haven't tried them but I've been told they were pretty good. The first item I tried from here was the veggie sandwich (cukes, sprouts, tomato with feta and herb mayo) on their signature birdman bread. I've been hooked ever since. Now I stop by BDB quite often on my way to work or on Saturday mornings for tasty breakfast creations. Everything I have had was great, but I especially love the pecan bars and the muffins. The sidekick loves the bacon cheddar scones and the cinnamon rolls. I'm reserving one star, to be awarded when they upgrade the drink station. When I come here its for their lunch special, which is a sandwich (half or whole), bag of chips, drink and cookie. The sandwich is actual sandwich sized. You can choose what type of bread you would like. Their cookie selection usually includes chocolate chip, oatmeal, lemon, oatmeal chocolate chip. My favorite sandwich of theirs is the turkey, bacon, avocado sandwich. Its always so delicious and fresh. The dining area is a bit small and the parking lot is teeny tiny but I haven't had any problems getting into it or finding a table. The staff is always very friendly. On the counter next to the registers, you'll find a sample area so you can try something new on each trip. This location is on the corner of DeZavala and Brandeis. First time coming back here in awhile and was craving the Birdman bread. I stopped by at 8:25 AM to grab a loaf, a cupcake for a co-worker celebrating a birthday, and a sandwich for lunch. OK, so I'm pizza crazy. I've just recently moved to San Antonio, so have been trying lots of different pizza places. Generally I prefer really thin crust pizza as that is what I grew up on, but any pizza is good. Shakey's is my favorite, but sadly instead of a ten mile drive, I believe the closes one is about 900 miles away. I must confess, the pizza (only served Friday and Saturday nights) here is one of the best I've tasted. Not sure what it is, just the ingredients much be extra fresh or something, because it just tasted really really good. The "large pizza" isn't really that large, and kind of spendy ($16 for what I'd actually call "medium" at most other pizza places). That is the only reason I nicked them a star. The flavor of their pepperoni pizza is simply outstanding. Sadly, I believe they no longer serve pizza on the weekends. Wah. read more

Great little spot my girlfriend took me to when I was visiting her and her family in San Antonio a few months ago. First off, they're the real deal. They bake everything daily, so everything there is fresh. Their breads are really top notch quality. The interior is definitely not impressive and is quite small. It looks like they have lawn furniture as their seating accommodation, but that's alright. It's a small, local business, and their food makes up for it. We came to grab some deli sandwiches once, and while they're not as cheap as the Subway across the street, they are SO much better. The bread is simply marvelous, and you can choose which breads you want your sandwich made with. They give a generous portion of deli meat, which is also pretty top quality. I personally loved their turkey club. It's absolutely delicious and doesn't leave you feeling disgusting afterwards. Super fresh and healthy. Of course, being a bakery, they serve an assortments of breads, muffins, and cookies. They put out fresh samples of random things for you to try, so that's really nice. Personally, I love their banana nut muffin. Their cranberry orange cookie is also really good too! It is a local business, so they do need some downtime. Doors are closed on Sunday and Monday, but they do it right the other 5 days of the week! read more

Broadway Daily Bread is an amazing bakery and sandwich shop! What keeps me coming back are their baked goods and the coffee. I love their scones, cupcakes, and muffins, and I'm addicted to the cinnamon rolls! Their snickerdoo coffee is really good too. Just make sure you get there before the lunch rush if you want a pastry, since they bake everything fresh daily they tend to run out later in the day. Yesterday I stopped in about 4:00 to get a chocolate cupcake and they were already out. The decor inside is pretty minimal; it's not the kind of place I would go on a rainy afternoon to get a cup of coffee and sit and read a book. When I'm having a rough morning, though, stopping for coffee and a pastry there always puts me in a better mood. read more

I've been coming here since they opened when I was in high school some whoadjaklda;l years ago ;) I remembered my day wouldn't be right without one of their chocolate chip banana muffins before getting into class and how shattered I would be if they didn't have any. Now that I'm back in SA I'm glad to see their quality hasn't changed one bit. Broadway has become my husband and I's new lunch spot and were never disappointed with there variety of sandwhiches and sweets to fill our bellies before getting back to the kids. I'll admit the customer service can be lacking at times...okay most of the time. The girls behind the counter are usually annoyed by our presence and our quick to assume that were done after we pick one thing, but I guess with the line that's usually going out the door I might be a little...unpleasant too. I would give them 3 stars just bc of the service but those tasty banana chocolate chip muffins save them everytime. read more

I'm a sucker for any mom-and-pop type bakery so when I came across this gem, I had to pop in. And I'm so glad I did. From the outside it doesn't seem too promising, but, trust me, it is. Walking inside, to the left is a seating area if you wish to dine in. To the right is the display of freshly baked deliciousness in the form of cupcakes, cookies, mini cupcakes, cinnamon rolls, muffins, scones, and BREADS. Straight behind is the bakers' playground where all those aforementioned deliciousnesses were crafted and where many more are to follow. It's a very eclectic, organic vibe that I enjoyed and look forward to going back to. They promise that all their goods are high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils free! Their whole wheat breads are all made with freshly, in-store milled wheat. Come on! Their menu varies from day to day and they are open on weekends also offering an array of breakfast treats. I got a loaf of cheddar jalapeño sourdough bread and I'm unashamed to say half the load was eaten just out of the bag as is on my way home - it's that good. A gorgeous warm blend of soft bread with pockets of real cheddar cheese and a subtle jalepeno fire following the taste of each bite. I will happily drive the distance back to Daily Bread just for this loaf. There were various other types of bread as well - spelt, bird man, oatmeal, etc. But do yourself a favor and try the jalapeño loaf. Do it. Trust me. I also got a brownie and a mini red velvet cupcake for hubby and a chocolate one for myself. Everything was delish. The service was great. Just all around a great find. Next time I go back, I'll give their sandwiches or kolaches a try and dine in, watching the bakers as work. read more

Sour cream pecan muffins!! YUM!! Don't be off put by the sour cream part- it's added to make the muffin more moist and fluffy! This is my all time favorite item aside from the usual banana chocolate chip muffin and lemon poppy seed muffin. All the muffins are cheap and huge! I used to save up my change (sorry Broadway employees) walk here everyday during my lunch break in high school to treat myself to a little dessert to complete my lunch. The jalapeno cheese bread offered only on Fridays is also divine- the bread is always soft and chewy and there is just the right ratio of jalapenos and cheese in a way that doesn't overpower the loaf. Broadway is good. The bread is nice, the people are friendly, and the desserts are sweet and tasty. Do I think it is the best bakery in San Antonio? No. I find that they products presented are nice, but there is nothing outstanding about them. I have had the bread here, and it is a consistent quality. The cookies are not overly sweet and processed; good, in other words. I find that they are a good bakery. However, I am not really thrilled by anything they do. Maybe I have high standards. I think that this is a good bakery to stop if you need something, but I have been coming here less and less since I found Sol y Luna, down the street. read more

I want to preface this review by stating that I am a small business owner myself, so I ALWAYS pull for the little guy and while I've tried to find reasons to fall in love with this place I just can't. It's not the food quality. I've tried muffins, cookies and all sorts of bars from this place and everything is good. It's really the selection. Every time I come they've only got a handful of items that they are selling and I've tried coming on different days and at different times, figuring maybe it was just a business thing where they make so much on the weekdays and more on the weekends and no - same scenario. I guess I'm spoiled by places like La Popular Bakery where the display cases are just oozing out with goodies and you could literally spend an hour deciding what you want. Compare that to here and they had two muffins, two cupcakes, 2 bars, 2 cookies and bread. The people are super friendly but I feel like the company is setting them up for failure by not having a good selection of product for them to sell. read more

The establishment was very clean and the staff was very nice. However, the only reason we bought bread was because we had been on vacation for a week and my wife's routine of making sourdough bread was interrupted. We bought 2 loaves of 'sourdough' and we were very disappointed - it is excellent french bread, but it is NOT sourdough. As I said, my wife makes homemade sourdough and this was good bread, but no where near SOURdough. (I admit to being raised where San Francisco equates to sourdough.) I would not discourage anyone from going here or buying their products, just be aware. read more

I drive across town for this place, the TBA (Turkey Bacon Avocado) is amazing, like it's too good! It is a small little place to eat so if it is crowded you may not find a place but it is worth the attempt. A great place for super fresh sandwiches and salads. I usually opt for one of their salads, but also really like the vegetarian cucumber sandwich as well as the avocado BLT. The salads come with a slice of their homemade birdman bread. For the sandwiches, you have a choice of one of the several bread varieties they bake there. Service is usually fast, but the parking lot is small and you sometimes have to park on the street. The sample board at the checkout area always gives you an opportunity to try one of their many baked goods. Do not miss the sour cream pecan muffins. They often run out of them. The lemon bars are also very good. All the items are baked and sold the same day. You can also snag some of the day old items at a reduced price. You will need to check their baking schedule, as some items are only made on certain days. You can also custom order several items like mini-muffins or mini-cupcakes and they do not seem to require a minimum quantity. read more

SUPER TASTY CUPCAKES!!!!!!! I got a chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting and pecans on top and let me tell you OH EEMMM GEEE! It was AMAZING! The bread was so moist and light it was perfect. I also tried the red velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting and it was bomb.com! The best dessert they have, the chocolate chip cookies!! I almost forgot, I also got a pecan brownie. On this somewhat chilly (for San antonio that is) December morning, I have just sat down at home with a hot cup of coffee to eat a slice of toasted pumpkin walnut tea bread slathered with a little bit of butter from Broadway daily bread on de zavala road. It really hits the spot. At $6.25 some may consider it a little expensive but it's dense and delicious with just the right amount of spice and nuts. It's definitely sweet. Other treats here include the lemon bars and pecan squares which are unbeatable and hard to avoid for those of us watching our figures. A slice of bread and butter, always available with bits of cookie, muffin, brownie, etc... on the sample tray at the bakery itself with a cup of coffee is a common way for me to start my day. The breads are first rate but no whole grain options yet. Spelt bread is available certain days as well as challah, in time for Friday night and the weekend. This location is really small, but oh, so cute. I was waiting for my car to be detailed around the corner, so I went in for a cup of coffee and kolache which were both good, and then ordered the Advacado BLT to go. The bread is so yummy! All the ingredients are natural and the bread is made in house, so you can fill-up without feeling stuffed or gross afterwards. Half sandwiches are ACTUALLY half sandwiches here, so if you're hungry, you're better off getting a full sandwich. I sat and read for a couple hours (because I had no choice), but the clientele was mostly the working lunch crowd, so I wouldn't recommend it for a leisurely cup a coffee, but the food makes this place a must-visit. read more
