It's Xmas eve. Heading to the grocery pick up last minute items, then remembered that a long-time donut shop that almost closed down because of owner retiring was nearby. Did I need it? Nope. But did I crave a baseball-mitt sized apple bear claw? A resounding yayssssss!! Pulled into the empty parking lot at 2:00pm, wifey and I said to each other "they probably just have donut holes left, but what the heck let's just go in". To our pleasant surprise upon opening the door, we saw our faves still available...the mitt, cinnamon roll, maple donut, chocolate custard and blueberry cake donut!!!! Don (new owner who was the baker for over 30 years) smiled and was very personable and patient when we were salivating over how many to get of each. We eventually bought a 1.5 dozen to share with our grown-up kids, but we'll probably take a bite of each Once we got into the car, we got into the box. OMG...what a pleasant drive the rest of the way. Only thing missing was a hot cup of joe. Each item we sampled (oh yes we did) was fresh, soft and not too sweet. One of the best shops in Sacramento; too bad it wasn't a little closer to where I live (20 min away). Actually, maybe it's a good thing they're not close by...my BS level would probably be over 300 and A1c over 10!! But if you're in the mood for some good ol' fashioned donuts in a modestly decorated building, Broadway Donuts is the place to go...for breakfast or a snack!! Bonus...open 7 days a week!! read more

I discovered Broadway Donuts from the Too Good To Go app (2g2g). I live near here and I am glad I do. I would not have known about this place if it wasn't for that app. I am not a donut person. In fact, I only like certain sweets, so if I like the donuts here, it is really good. I usually don't eat donuts. They have a great selection of donuts and I have not had one I do not like. I normally feel sick after eating donuts, but there is something about the ones from here that makes me want to eat more and I do not feel sick after. The donut holes from here are probably my favorite. Customer service is great. They are always nice when I come in and sometimes, they have a box prepared already when I pick up and other times, I get to see what they pack into the box. It is different everytime so you never know what you are going to get. They sell Knick knacks and some cool craft items in the shop as well. They have their own parking lot and they are right by Smart and Final, so you can't miss it. I will be back. read more

I stopped in today and picked up 12 dozen mixed donuts for my work for National Donut Day! I called ahead a few days before and the person I spoke to was super friendly and helpful. I walked in this morning and the donuts were ready for me in super cute pink boxes with "National Donut Day" stickers on them. Broadway Donuts is located on the corner of 28th and Broadway and it is a very tiny shop - tiny, but definitely packs a punch! They also were selling little cute collectables and other merchandise. The donuts were light and fluffy! My favorite was definitely the Crumb donut - it reminds me of the little gas station donuts, but obviously better! Broadway Donuts offers a great variety of different types and flavors which probably explains why they had a long line this morning and why they have been around for 40 years! I was really craving a double chocolate doughnut with chopped peanuts and this is what they had today. (see photo.) Tasted great but I miss the chopped peanuts. Also, I was going to Stanley's donuts and J St. for awhile and to be honest Broadway donuts are really much better when it comes to the double chocolate, peanut doughnut. Stanley's donuts are popular and they have some great variety. However, after going back to Broadway donuts for the first time in a long time it's dramatically better than what I've been getting at Stanley's. read more

Donut shops Sacramento is full of donut shops but finding a good donut. Shop is a hard thing. I'm surprised I've never been here living so close. I've been to dozen of donut shops in Sacramento but this is my new favorite one. The staff is very nice and friendly, and the prices are still reasonable compared to others that have raised them up. The inside is set up really nice and they also have some cool things for sale too on the side. I made sure to get a dozen for the fourth. Just found out that this mom & pop will be closing on December 12th after 37 years. I stopped by for a few donuts and they were amazing. The glazed donut was soft and pillowy, and their chocolate cake donut with coconut was moist inside and had the perfect crunch outside. Always sad to see a local establishment close. I will try and make one more visit before their final day. I hope the Sacramento community gives them a proper send-off before they close their doors. read more

I've been going to Broadway donuts since I was a little girl and I loved it then and still love it now. My favorite item to order is a chocolate donut bar with whip cream on top, the donuts or made fresh. The lady that works there is very polite and helpful always has a smile on her face. It's a small little establishment that's on the corner. They're very clean inside. The parking area actually is pretty large, also they sell anime toys and other little things. I wanted to check this spot out seeing how huge the raised glazed donuts look in the pics here. I ended up grabbing a total of a dozen donuts and along with the glazed donuts I got some chocolate donut bars, some blueberry cake donuts, and a cinnamon roll donut (I wanted to try an apple fritter as apparently this one is also popular, but there were none at the time that I went). The donuts overall were alright. The raised glazed ones that I got were pretty raised, but not as huge as the ones in the pics. I've had glazed donuts that were fluffier and more melt-in-your-mouth elsewhere than the ones that I had here. They were also a tad greasy. The ends of the chocolate donut bars were dry and the blueberry cake donuts could have had more of a blueberry flavor. The cinnamon roll donut is an interesting take on a cinnamon roll; it's a pretty soft donut especially at the center of the spiral, but I still prefer the buttery-ness of a standard cinnamon roll. This place will satisfy your donut craving, but the donut game is pretty strong in Sac and can be easily overshadowed by the other donut spots in the area. read more

I FINALLY caught them on a day where they had fritters . Every other time they were sold out by the time I got there or they ran out of fritters. For the record, I got there at 11am on a saturday and they had fritters and a good selection of donuts still! They had a buy 3 get 1 free thing so I got 4 donuts (2 fritters, a cinammon roll and an old fashioned). The big donuts are 2.10 each btw. But I was SO EXCITED to try the fritters bc ppl say its the best apple fritters in sac! The fritter was HUGE. So it was amazing to look at and I was so excited to try it, but when I tasted it, it was just okay. Also both of mine were slightly burnt :/. It also didn't have a lot of apple (I don't recall a single apple chunk, but I shared it so ‍), and also the edges are good bc it's crunchy and has the glaze, but every part without glaze is completely tasteless :(. So it was kinda like eating soft tasteless bread once you finished the (burnt) edges. Fritter gets a 3/5 for me bc if you gave it to me I'd still eat it, but I'd for sure had better. The old fashioned was great! Not too dense or cakey, it was perfect! 5/5 The cinnamon roll was also amazing, probably one of the best I've had. Perfectly soft inside, just enough glaze, 5/5 for me! Ok. So let me set the scene. It's 6AM and I want to get some donuts quickly as I travel from RC to Natomas. I am only searching for location close to the freeway and a place that is open. I settle on Broadway Donuts, call ahead and order 2 dozen donuts for pickup. I plan on swooping in, paying, and getting on with my long day. I walk in, my donuts are waiting for me to pay and walk away with them, but I look around I am done for. It looks like someone broke into my Etsy favorite items list and stored them at the donut store! Next thing I know I am letting 5 customers ahead of me as I peruse earrings and necklaces and figurines and ADORABLE stickers. 20 minutes later I leave with my donuts and a pair of earrings and 6 stickers. I could easily have left with more but I was trying to exercise self control. I gave the donuts as a gift and received feedback they were delicious. The earrings were comfortable and I still love them even after having some coffee this morning. So, yeah. I think you should check out Broadway Donuts. Best mom and pop donut shop I ever had!! I came on a Saturday morning at about 10am. However, when I got here, I was so bummed that they only had 1 row of donuts left...FML. I loved how doughy, fluffy and soft they were that I had to come back the next day and make sure I was early enough to get a bigger selection! One of the best tasting donuts I have ever had! Very fresh, soft and doughy/fluffy, just how I like it! I am not much of a fan of old fashioned or cake donuts because many places make them too dry in my opinion, but the way they make them here are very moist and soft. Donut selection I had: 1) Donut holes - these little things are too addicting. 2) Maple bar -you can actually taste the maple flavor! Nice and potent. 3) Sugar - one of my favorites!! 4) Chocolate donut and bar - loved the gooey chocolate on top! There is nothing like some good donuts in the morning. Been coming here for awhile now and they serve great coffee and donuts. We always ask for whip cream in our coffee.
