Let me just start off by saying that my husband & I love The Broken Yolk, just not this location. We live about 5 minutes away & the last 3 or 4 times we've been here, the service and the food have been terrible. Thomas B is probably the worst server they have & it just so happened that all of the past few times we were there he ended up being our server. He can't even get a simple drink order correct. After talking with the manager about the poor service & food, he was understanding but begged me to write a good Yelp review lol so here ya go buddy. I was overall disappointed. I love Broken Yolk, especially the one in San Marcos, but this one was subpar. The food was good, and the servers were kind, but there was dried food on the utensils given to us, they forgot part of our order and didn't bring it out even after we reminded them, and the waiter left things on our table as well as forgot to offer to refill our water glasses when empty. Horrible is a compliment. Out of 6 orders 3 were messed up and served cold. Slow service and poor quality. Will not be coming back and would not recommend it to anyone. Stopped by today after we heard about their anniversary and great deals. My friend and I were quoted about 30 minutes. We were on a budget so we stuck around. After being sat our server Nicole promptly greeted us and took our order. Our mimosas were dropped of quickly and our food followed shortly. Nicole made sure our drinks were full and check in us regularly. The oj was VERY fresh and our eggs cooked to perfection! wowwww this place is so not worth it. I've been here once before around 10am on a Sunday morning and had a really pleasant time. It was crowded but didn't have to wait but 2 minutes. The server let us order from the breakfast specials that are only from 6am-8am even though it was 10. We ordered mimosas to go along with our breakfast specials and had a good ol time. food portions are pretty large and was pretty tasty. Recently, I went with my family on a Thursday morning around noon and it was pretty empty. only a couple servers around and a trainee. Worst breakfast experience ever!!! The service was HORRIBLE. The server or the trainee never came to check up on us or refill our water or coffee. we had to flag them down to get any help! I've been to Broken Yolk in SD next to the sports arena and that food was pretty good. This, was pretty unappetizing. I honestly didn't want to finish my meal but I was hungry. Food had NO FLAVOR, nothing special at all. I'm pretty open with food and not too harsh about it but wow, this was just bad. My mom ordered the california burrito which came with rice and beans and we were not a fan of the beans or rice really. When we asked the server to switch it out for hash browns she didn't hesitate to get that to us, so that was a plus. I ordered one of their "favorites", the border check omelette, which contained jalapenos, beef chorizo, jack cheese, and some avocado/salsa. Sounds good right? no. it just had no flavor whatsoever. even the toast felt kinda old. not to mention this omelette was about 10.50. definitely not worth it. This is the 2nd time I've been and it was a much better experience. The food is usually pretty good, huge portions which is a good thing. The omelets can be split into 2, which is nice because they are huge and we can share one and still get pancakes to share too. It is usually pretty inexpensive, for my husband and I we sent $25 with tip and we got 2 omelettes, chocolate chip pancakes and drinks. Not bad for a diner breakfast. read more

We may give this place a third try again later to see if they have improved since the manager was so determined to find out how to fix the problem. I'm not sure what everyone else ordered but we ordered four meals and they were all bad. We ordered two kids meals, my husband had steak and eggs with a side stack of awful pancakes. I had the eggs Benedict which were very hard to eat. Our total was about $60 which is how much it costs for us to get a pick up order from Red Lobster and Olive Garden. Pretty ridiculous price for breakfast items. Our server wasn't attentive either and didn't smile once. I was shocked at how crowded it was. I don't think we'll be returning. read more

Bad set up for the huevos rancheros. Eggs made my whole meal soggy when I got it delivered. Would've been a little better had those been set to the side for me to do with them as I please. We went here for the first time today. There was a short wait as it was Saturday morning. We were seated in a nondescript large area mainly set up for groups of 15 or more. (There was just the two of us.) The table was not completely cleaned when we were seated. We ordered an old favorite of ours, biscuits and gravy. It was AWFUL. The "biscuit" was more like a hamburger bun, the gravy was sparse and flavored with chicken broth or stock. I came here with my roommate for breakfast on a Saturday morning. I ordered the bacon egg and cheese sandwich with a side of 'fresh' fruit. The sandwich and orange juice really tasted delicious, but that fruit had more to the story. I noticed a little fuzz on the cantalope at first but then put it aside and continued with my meal because it was only a small amount. Much to my surprise I turned over a grape and found that more than half of a grape was fuzzy. I told the waitress once we were ready for the bill and she offered to bring a new bowl of fruit. When she did, she mentioned that she made sure it was free of moldy fuzz. I took a bite into the watermelon (trusting her judgement) which tasted sour. Underneath the watermelon was another moldy, fuzzy grape. I brought this to her attention once again to which she called the manager and they compensated my meal. This morning was our first time at this location. Have to say they aren't all like this. We really liked the outdoor patio where we could take our small dogs but that's where it ended. The service was terrible-one of the worst we have ever had (and we are 75 & 84!!). The food was a 2 in a scale of 1-10. Went there for breakfast with my wife and 75 year old mother-in-law on Sunday April 14th. We intended to use a $20. cupon we had purchased thur Sign On San Diego. Even though the cupon clearly showed the only restriction as being "not good on holidays", the waiter told us they didn't accept them on weekends. I ask to speak to the manager. After a couple of minutes the waiter came back and said the manager said she was sorry but they would not accept it. However, she said we were welcome to use it the next time we came in on a non-holiday weekday. Gee, really? Thanks! I once again ask to speak to her. A woman came over and basically repeated the above as if I hadn't already heard it twice. As we were preparing to leave and go elsewhere another woman (the REAL manager?) came over and after some thought told us we could use it "this time", like she was doing us a big favor. Even though we were extremely polite to the wait staff, all the smiles were now gone. We were clearly the "bad guys" in this and they just wanted us to eat and leave. I still left over a 20% tip on the gross amount of the check as the overall service and food were both excellent. However, we got no apology nor thanks for the generous tip (under the circumstances).....We won't be back....who needs the hassle? Situation should have been handled much better...... read more

Came here for the first time today with family. As strange as it sounds all I wanted was a plain cold bagel with cream cheese. The first bagel they brought was toasted and when I asked them nicely for a new bagel it took 10 mins for them to bring a new one and this one was also hot. How hard is it to not heat a bagel? I'm not complaining whatsoever. It took our server 12 minutes from the time we were sat down to ask what we would like to drink and only after the busboy came by to ask if we would like water he brought the juices. My better half ordered a short stack and they were dry and tough and could not be cut easily with a fork. I ordered the CFS and the gravy was too salty,cold and lumpy. The home fries were overcooked on the bottom where they were too crispy(burned). I ate my breakfast like a good boy because I didn't want my better half to complain. It's a good idea to have CQ from the cooks so they can see first hand about what is being served and not from a complaint because it's human nature for anyone to get defensive especially when this place gets a lot of good reviews. Customer Service is not there. The staff has this "Oh more work" type of attitude. The food was average (Denny's has better taste). Totally, and utterly disappointed, consistently. Keep hoping that this place would have better service but can't understand why the service is so very lacking. Was sat this time in, what looked like, a closed section and had to go back to the front to get a hostess' attention to ask management to assign us a server. Poor planning when they knew they had to set a table up for us. When food arrived, 2 orders were brought out that weren't ours and only 1 out of 7 orders were rang in. We sat and waited for the remaining 6 orders to be brought out on the fly. Management never apologized for the inconvenience or check in with us to see after the problem whether we were satisfied. At first appearance, we felt this would be a good experience as the atmosphere was very nice. Ben was a very courteous and attentive waiter; however the cook needs to be fired! The eggs were over cooked, the toast was burnt. The regular bacon was tasteless. My husband ordered the more expensive applewood smoked bacon and it was badly burnt; more than half of it was charcoal black. The manager came by and asked about our meal and we told him our concerns. His response was that we shouldn't have eaten it and should have sent it back. I was going to write a long-drawn out review but will cut to the chase... French fries suck-they are crinkle cut and reminded me of frozen ones my mom served us kids 45 years ago! They used to have really good fries but corporate decided these are better???!! Our waitress, Alison, was super fun and friendly. She did make an error with our bill though, running a wrong amount through but claimed that would just "drop" off. My friend called her bank when she got home and not only did it NOT "drop" off, the amount was charged 3 times!! My friend called the manager Jim and after a bit of a conversation back and forth, he took the total amount off her card. Speaking of the manager.. Nice guy but his name tag should read manager...He heard the complaint about the fries he could have offered something different. And a final note... the prices here are really, really high!!
