I used to go here a lot. Good food and and got your money's worth. Today, after not having been for a few months, I went with a friend for breakfast. The prices were outrageous. I used to get a breakfast burrito with beans and rice. Ordered a breakfast burrito this time and got... A burrito. That's it. So a burrito and latte was $18.31 plus tip so I paid over $20 for a burrito and coffee. Nope. I will NEVER return. On the up side, the waitress was very sweet. Hence the two stars. read more

Came in for the 1st time today for a networking lunch... Good service good onion rings and literally the WORST burger I have ever eaten... The patty was tasteless jerky (I asked for medium-rare) & the tomato was unripened... I complained to the manager on my way out & showed him the uneaten burger & pointed out my issues, but he was not interested & simply said "next time send it back & we'll try to fix it" ... Denny's on steroids. The food has a diner feel and nothing tastes fresh-- even the eggs. Good for breakfast with family or friends if you like diner places. Large and spacious with a bar area. They serve alcohol and the food comes out pretty quick. Service is hit and miss, whether their busy or not. read more

This place is definitely broken.....and it's not just the yolk. First of all, how cheap and tacky can a place be? The floors and tables are covered in Denny's meets Swap Meet unmatched mother-of-particle board decor that immediately tips you off that this is going to be a bad experience. It goes quickly down hill from there. Everything on the menu was made up from canned bulk food, Eggs are bright yellow and tasteless. Artichoke hearts were obviously canned and had enough salty brine left on them to render the rest of my omelette completely inedible. Muffin was literally so hard and cold you could hurt somebody with it. Not really worth commenting on the rest of the food we ate since it was all pretty much all variations on the same garbage. The reason I gave it a one star is that they had the sense to take a can of corned beef and throw it on the grill making it the only edible thing on our entire table. Of course there is a Stater Bros a block away where you can get the same can of Mary Kitchen corned beef for $1.25. Service was indifferent and slow but perfectly matched to the food. Ironically, the world-class Beachbreak Cafe is a mile or so from here The Jack-in-a-Box across the parking lot is better/faster/cheaper and there is a Mimi's directly west, which while only about a 3 star place, is FAR better than BYC. I give this place 6 months before it goes under just like the past 3 chain food nightmares before them. read more

I came here with my family for the first time off a recommendation that this place was fairly good and had amazing breakfasts. Well unfortunately, I was disappointed. I ordered a simple parfait and a single sweet potato pancake on the side. The sweet potato pancake was awesome! It tasted home made with hints of spices cooked into the batter. However, the parfait was so disgusting that I would never go their again. Not if you want fresh food anyways. I mean seriously, how can you mess up a parfait? The yogurt was decent, so was the granola. However, they didn't put fresh fruit in it! The blueberries were so leathery and tasteless I could not even eat them. Seriously, they tasted like a stale can of pre opened expired blueberries. Gross. It was like $9 too! Charging that much for a parfait I expect FRESH fruit. read more

I went in once right after it opened and had a terrible meal with really lousy service. I put it down to opening jitters, but never went back until today. Wish I hadn't. Some of the worst food I've ever been served at a restaurant. The omelette was dry and chewy, and the vegetables inside it were overcooked and limp. There were also ingredients I didn't order that found their way into the dish (and one I did order that wasn't put in and had to be brought out later). The toast I has specially requested be quite dark was barely even warm, and the potatoes were a solid mass that was so hard I had to use a knife. What they called "Hollandaise" sauce was absolutely disgusting and bore no resemblance at all to anything that had ever been in contact with butter or lemon juice. The service was okay, but nothing special. At the time of checkout I had a long wait at the counter, which was left unattended. They asked how my meal was, and I told them -pulling no punches. They had the decency to offer me a discount as I was so dissatisfied, but I don't plan to return. The food was just that bad. :( read more

Hello, Just went to a location in Oceanside for a breakfast with my family. Well, the food was horrible. first of all, we had to wait 45 minutes for our food. Then, it came out COLD and my steak was very well-done when I wanted it to be medium! Our waitress was very nice about trying to handle our concerns. However, when I asked her that I would like to speak to a manager, the manager didn't come by, but just sent her back with a coupon! Dear Management, I did not ask for a coupon, i asked to speak to you!!!! I don't want to talk to waitress, because she doesn't have anything to deal with the food being cooked wrong and for 45 minutes. If you don't know how to manage your restaurant, you should not be in this business. Or at least accept your mistakes and come by to provide some customer service!!!!!!!! Overall, I grade the restaurant an F, due to the very poor management! And NO, I do not want a cup of coffee #5, while I'm waiting for 45 minutes, I want my food. read more

This was the best Breakfast I have eaten in years. This place blows Dennys, IHOP and COCOs out of the water. The food actually tasted like food. Yeah, I was surprised also. I had the American Breakfast with home fries and corned beef hash. Hash was not Salty, potatoes are not greasy and the eggs were cooked perfectly. I am a Thomas English Muffin fan since my childhood but the english muffins served were just fine. Seems a little pricy but the portions given compared to their competitors made up for the few $$ more. I would rather spend more money on larger served portions and better tasting food any day. This place is neither good or bad. Just a regular breakfast place. I go here sparingly, and what keeps me coming back is the fact that they serve corned beef hash (IHOP doesn't) which I love. Other than that, it's just traditional breakfast food. I will say that I find it E-X-T-R-E-M-E-L-Y PRICEY. Two eggs and a side (no meat) costs $7.49! Sort of like an upgraded Denny's with a massive menu focusing on breakfast foods. Tried their Golden State Benedict. Completely drenched in hollandaise sauce. Hash browns weren't crispy and dry but more mushy and limp. Bacon was super long and ultra crunchy, so wasn't really possible to eat with the English muffin and poached egg unless you wanted to scratch your mouth or look ridiculous. Bacon had to be broken apart or just eaten separately. Overall, certainly in the 3-star area. read more

This was my family's third time eating here. We were seated promptly and our waiters was on top of things from the beginning. The selection of breakfast and lunch items were good. Everything from your typical breakfast omelets, cafe style sandwiches, and a few options for salad were tossed it. The portion sizes are pretty generous. Food was delivered to our table pretty quickly. My family was for the most part satisfied with our food. The only complaint from our table came from my father-in-law who said that the biscuits and gravy were pretty dry and the gravy had no flavor. read more

The poached egg was way under with runny whites, the Canadian bacon was actually burnt and the hollandaise sauce was tasteless! He recommended we visit the Broken Yolk in OCEANSIDE and so a few friends and myself decided to check it out over the weekend and were NOT disappointed. Everyone's food was delicious and the mimosa's were the perfect way to celebrate a Sunday off. Eric was a delight and truly respects and shows all of his tables was true service is all about. Let me just start off by saying that my husband & I love The Broken Yolk, just not this location. We live about 5 minutes away & the last 3 or 4 times we've been here, the service and the food have been terrible. Thomas B is probably the worst server they have & it just so happened that all of the past few times we were there he ended up being our server. He can't even get a simple drink order correct. After talking with the manager about the poor service & food, he was understanding but begged me to write a good Yelp review lol so here ya go buddy.
