I had never been to a Bubba Gump Shrimp before and I haven't seen "Forest Gump" in like 20 years, but my uncle recommended we dine here since it was right by our hotel. It worked out really well. They did a great job with our kids between the crayons and kids menu and the balloons they brought over. That and the trivia performed by our server made it very fun--even though we did pretty poorly! They also have a gift shop and my husband picked up a couple of shirts for us as souvenirs to remind us of our fun time! The food was really good. I got the salmon and it was cooked perfectly, and served with broccoli and rice. The rice was some of the best I've had in a while. The kids menu was also a hit. My daughter got the popcorn shrimp and the frozen grapes! You never see something like frozen grapes. My daughter loved them. It was my mother's birthday and she wanted to check out Bubba Gump Shrimp since she didn't remember eating there decades ago. I did and it was good then so off we went. The outside looks the same as Joe's Crab Shack and the inside had the same vibes. We decided since the ocean breeze felt nice that we would sit outside on their deck. It had just rained sideways and alot of the seats were wet but the servers found us some dry cushions unaffected from the rain and changed them out for us. We got there before people started getting off work so it was pretty calm. She got a lemonade while I got a Mango Mojito (Don Q Cristal Rum, mango puree, lime, mint). Holy heck, there was ALOT of lime in it. I was alert for the rest of the night. Super sour, but I liked it. Our server was excellent and kept us laughing. He recommended my mother's entree the Shrimper's Heaven (fried, coconut, and tempura shrimp with fries, cocktail sauce, cajun marmalade, and tempura sauce). She loved it, and even though she isn't a fan of sweet sauces for meat she still ate it, which surprised me. I had ordered the Ribeye & Stuffed Shrimp (steak, crab stuffed shrimp, mashed potatoes, and broccoli). The ribeye was just ok, a little to fatty for me and it wasn't medium rare, more like medium. the stuffed shrimp were kinda dry and needed some sauce like what my mother had. The potatoes and broccoli were good. Mom didn't want dessert but I got a key lime pie slice to go. My fiancé and split it since it was big enough and it was pretty good and limey. The whipped cream didn't survive the trip home but that's ok. I think it's a good place for the atmosphere and drinks but I'd be very choosy as to what you order. read more

My husband and I went in the weekend after opening, walking up from the beach on a whim. The line was very long, but there was indoor, outdoor, porch, and sandy picnic area seating - all mostly full. We lucked out and got two seats at a 1/3 full bar. We were excited. The drinks are expensive, maybe $15-19 each because they come with souvenir cups or shakers - I don't think you can say "Charge me less and just give me a normal cup." This is a destination chain, afterall. We got a Rum Forrest Rum drink and a spicy margarita, plus two waters the bartender never refilled despite trying to flag him or anyone in the bar down multiple times. We got the steamed cajun shrimp bucket appetizer, and they were very nicely seasoned, hot, and came out quickly, despite the busy kitchen. A bit pricy, but this is a beachside chain, so we expected as much. My husband ordered the steak, cooked medium - just to see how they'd do it. It came out Medium rare, cool to the touch, and with virtually no flavor. It was supposed to have a glaze and seasonings, but just bland was all he got. The mashed potatoes, however, were divine! I ordered a side of broccoli ($6) and they pretty much gave me a steamed head of broccoli in large chunks with a butter sauce that wasn't bad. Huge portion, totally shareable, not disappointed. You don't keep your dirty tiki glass, they give you a receipt and you take it to where you pay and the cashier gives you a fresh and brand new souvenir glass or shaker to take home - to complete the experience. They had the Forrest Gump movie and several sports events playing on indoor tvs, one woman doing trivia in the corner, and lots of staff walking around looking like they were trying to get their bearings. We came in for a large family dinner with 18 adults and 4 kids. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. Three of my kids received their food very late, after most of the table was already finished eating. My Cajun chicken sandwich was undercooked, so I took one bite and stopped eating it. No one in our group really seemed impressed with their food. I will say the staff did adjust my bill without me having to ask, which I appreciated, and the atmosphere was fun. We still enjoyed being together as a family, but based on the food quality and timing, I don't think we'd choose to eat here again. read more

When going to this place the decor is all place set from the movie Forrest Gump. All the merchandise has sayings from the movie. It was good to bring back old memories from that movie. This restaurant never disappoints, so I was excited to see one opening in Jax Beach. The food was awesome, the drinks were awesome, and the ambiance was all the beachy vibes you'd want. Our server, Jess, was phenomenal. The only complaint I have is that, in other Bubba Gump restaurants, the servers did Forrest Gump trivia with just your table. Here, they do it with a megaphone and it's hard to hear and even harder to understand. That's why they lost a star from me. read more

This restaurant on the beach in Jacksonville opened about a week ago in the old Eat at Joe's location. I was really happy when I heard about it because I had previously eaten at this chain in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale and had always enjoyed it. Tonight was no different and we had a very good experience. The inside and outside renovations look great. The menu offers plenty of seafood appetizers and entrees. I opted for the blackened Mahi Mahi with grilled shrimp and it was very flavorful. It also came with mashed potatoes and onion rings. My husband had the crab stuffed shrimp with rice and garlic bread. He also enjoyed his meal. Service was friendly and professional from our server, India. Parking is free in their lot across the street. The outdoor deck offers a nice beach view. read more

I keep hoping that if I try a different location, something will be different! The food is always good. My partner and I shared a rack of ribs and it was enough for the both of us. We went to the Jax beach location on a Saturday afternoon and to our surprise it was not packed, there were plenty of open tables. Unfortunately, like so many other experiences with other locations, (Daytona) there was a wait because server to section ratio was low so we opted to sit at the bar outside. It's a prime location as Jacksonville has so few beachfront dining options in my opinion. The bartenders kept getting pulled to assist the inside bar so once we got our initial cups of water it was a significant wait until we were able to order food or drinks on account of no one available to take our order. They were still friendly and apologetic when they were able to get to us. The food did come out fast once we ordered. The ribs were saucier than I would have liked and it overpowered the flavor of the meat but once I wiped half of the BBQ sauce off and added pepper it was better balanced. The outer drink bar lining the rail is a nice place to post up and enjoy a beautiful day with a breeze and a cold drink. Not somewhere I would go if I was on a schedule for sure but good for what it is. A laid back beachfront meal if you got time to kill on service. read more

We had a five-star experience at this new restaurant, a renovated update on the former Crab shack restaurant which was also a part of the Landry's group. I'm glad that Landry's updated this to a Bubba Gump location, since I do enjoy being a member of the Landry's reward program which is one of the better reward programs out there. On this visit, we were quickly approached at our table in the dining area by our server, India who was quite friendly and efficient, and shared some Forrest Gump trivia with us while we waited for our entrees. I got the stuffed shrimp which was very well prepared, and came with the side of very flavorful rice. While this visit we sat in the main dining room, I do look forward to returning and sitting outside on the patio - the best part of the renovation appears to be that they've covered the back patio which should make it much more comfortable in hot/sunny weather. The dining room was quite active and energetic, and we sat in the back corner by the kitchen which made our meal quite hectic since there was quite a bit of entry and exit to the kitchen, along with a lot of conversation and congregation near the food ordering stations. I wouldn't recommend sitting there. Pricing averaged just under $40 per person all in including drinks, tax and tip, a reasonable value. I do look forward to returning soon. read more

Bubba Gumps took over the old Joe's Crab Shack and I am so happy about it! The concept is based off forest gump. There is inside and outdoor seating. It is very clean. The service was quick. There are signs on the table you flip to run forest runwhen you do not need a server and stop forest stop when you do. I can't wait to go back and try more food! read more

The old Joes crab shack is being missed by many of the locals. We had a reservation at 7 pm. The wait to get in was one hour and a half. There is really no parking at this location so plan to walk. We were fortunate to have handicapped placards. There are 4 handicapped spots to Bubba Gump. We took one of the 4. We were seated in minutes. Our server Eileen was attentive but I felt rushed. However, we had a great time. We started out with the shrimp and crab dip with tortiila chip. This is a staple appetizer only in Jacksonville, Florida. There were alot of ooo' s and ahhhh, coming from our mouth after devouring the dip. We asked our server for drink options. I should have had got a beer which I did get after the Captain rum tum, I hated. The capatian rum did not have enough alcohol for $15. I think the bartender was overwhelmed and I did not see none of the manager steppung in Wifey has the paradise tiki which she loved. I had. Both of us orderedthe same thing, the stuffed shrimp with crab meat and rice. We never order the same thing. We may be matchy matchy for colors we wear but not food. We have different palates. I almost went for the jambalaya but passed. Bubba Gump did have chessecake, one ofmy fav but i was ready to go. Overall, the experience was Grade A. Bumba Gump is a bit noisy and gimmicky in a nice sort of way. We got to keep our drinking glass. A new glass was given to us upon exiting. There was Forrest Gump merchandise to be sold. Also 2 photo opportunities. A photo booth in the restaurant. The other was at the bottom of the stairs when leaving. We took a picture in the Forest Gump shoes with the suitcase and a box of chocolates. I am probably one of few who never saw the movie with Tom Hanks. However, this was my 3rd go round at Bubba Gump. For my experience with this corporate chain food has always been positive, this is positive also, I stopped for lunch & ate on the bar, I don't drink but the explanation of the inventory was impressive, by the waitress near the bar, the barkeep was to busy for a lone customer since all time was spent with the group of girls @ the other end. FOOD- got the friedshrimp app., The next day I got Shrimp Shack shrimp- sorry corporate, it ain't worth the dime when a drive thru taste better. I they have nice employees. read more

Great view on beach, Bubba rum drink is good, you keep glass $15, fish was Pollock, expected cod, bland, heavy batter but ok. The problem was shrimp, small, over battered and overdone, why do they not pay more and buy Mayport shrimp or larger shrimp. They should try Osteens in St Auggi, fries were good, service was good. Start with only paid parking - paid by them, but had to add an APP - provided by them , had to include a credit card number!! , which I DO NOT DO, but got hung on this one. WILL FILE COMPLAINT W JAX BCH AS IT IS AOWNED BY PRIVATE LOCAL REAL ESTATE COMPANY4. Part consisted of seniors , two Vietnam Vets and wife's.. Ordered -4 tropical drinks , $60 - drinks were so-so. Shrimp Appetizer good, $15. Had Fish basket $21, person allergic to cabbage(slaw) NO SUBSTITUTES; Bourbon salmon $28 - ok., Two Mama Blues Shrimp baskets $ 44, shrimp tasted as though the cooking oil was old, not vegetable ( high temp ) and the shrimp - ALL OF THEM were all OVER Cooked., 2 lbs of fries and small paper cup slaw - fair. Morgan, Hailey and Violet were my bartenders. I had the clam chowder and stuffed shrimp. Soup and shrimp came out at almost the same time and both were delicious. The entire experience in this Bubba Gump's was not what I was expecting. I have been to a few other BG's and it was a hello of a site better than THIS BG's! When we walked in it was warm inside the restaurant, there were no productions or show charm from the movie, next was the icee; it was short only about 2 ounces maybe 3; then the food...the fish was, if there wasnt much fish; but there was a whole LOT of breading that was TOUGH AND BULKY!
