I been to so many buccas and this was by far the worst service. On Mother's Day they turned us away saying the wait was over 3 hours but the staff was so rude and acted like I was stupid for even asking how long the wait was. We ended up calling the bucca in brea and although they had a long wait time as well, the staff was very kind there and made sure we didn't have a bad experience, even when they were slammed with customers. We used to go to Buca di Beppo for years and they would never disappoint. Due to several circumstances, we hadn't been there for a few years. Tonight, we returned with a group for a birthday. Getting right to the point: - Good service. - VERY mediocre food. - Waaaay too much money. - MOST IMPORTANTLY: The food was NOT FRESH. There is no amount of schmoozing that would convince me otherwise. Why? Because we used to go there when it was. To be honest: I'm not sure how they keep in business. I always take issue when I can make better Italian food at home . . . minus the $200+ bill. I understand that the place was packed. Buca is a place to go for atmosphere and service. For actual food: Sister Sicily in Yorba Linda will blow your mind. I would imagine that the owners of Buca di Beppo don't care much about a Yelp review. I bought Buca di Beppo gift cards from Costco to treat my staff to a nice lunch--but it turned into a disaster. Three people from our group ended up getting food poisoning after eating there. I called the restaurant multiple times, left detailed messages, and not once did anyone call me back. No apology, no follow-up, no concern for public health--nothing. Not only is this a major red flag in terms of food safety, but the complete lack of customer service is unacceptable. I expected at the very least a call to acknowledge the situation, if not a refund or investigation. Instead, I was met with silence. This was a truly disappointing experience. This was my first time at Buca Di Beppo. There are few and far between where I live but I came here to use my gift card but unfortunately they are no longer accepting the one I have. Reservations were easy to make online through OpenTable. Parking was a bit difficult to find considering it was 8pm, but after a few loops people were leaving. Service was good. Erroll was very nice and explained the menu since it was our first timechecked in on us to make sure we didn't have any issues. My companion ordered eggplant Parmesan (their favorite) and couldn't finish it because the skin was so tough. They ordered it with a side of fettuccine Alfredo that frankly looked clumpy and undercooked. It was. I ordered spaghetti marinara with a (very small) side Caesar salad. Salad had seen better days (i.e. old, wilted leaves) and tasteless. The pasta marinara had absolutely no flavor; kept putting salt on it hoping for some kind of flavor to no avail. Made a reservation and requested the Pope room for an end of year dinner with my employees. There were 12 of us total. Upon walking in - everyone was very nice. We got there early and found out we did get the Pope room (as you cannot reserve it and is first come first serve), yay! They let us set up and put some name tags out. Chuck was our server and he was great. Very attentive. Always had our drinks refilled. He suggested a few items for the table and they were all great. The mozzarella garlic bread is a must! We celebrated my friend's retirement here during the intermezzo hours of 3 to 4 pm. We walked in and no one was there to greet us for a few minutes. The restaurant was empty. There was one other party. Not very festive. I had not visited this spot in about four years. So, I was wary of that. PROS: Friendly service from Red. She did an adequate job. Plates and silverware took a moment to get to us. Refills were infrequent, but present. Garlic cheese bread came out crispy and cheesy, but not very garlicky. The house bread arrived soft and warm with a decent quality olive oil. They dressed the gorgonzola and apple salad evenly, but needed more cheese. The world famous meatballs came out juicy, large, and pretty tasty. The marina sauce that accompanied it was good for dipping the garlic cheese bread. The spaghetti and meat possessed a rich and hearty flavor. The chicken cannoloni pasta seemed too firm and flavorless. The stuffed chicken with proscuitto won for best taste of the entrees. The crispy breaded breasts with salty proscuitto and mozzarella cheese with pesto sauce combined for a mouth watering flavor. Red made sure our cheesecake had the extra toasted hazelnuts which ended the meal nicely. CONS: The ambiance with so few diners really surprised me and brought down the celebratory and festive atmosphere. The guy taking pictures and selling them to our table did not add anything and maybe hindered our vibe. Maybe, offer to take our pic with our own phones first or second. The price seemed to not be there for the value.
