Had 8pm reservations for what was supposed to be a "surprise " birthday dinner ; our party of 20 arrived at 7:45pm , we were finally seated at 8:35pm , by that time the birthday guest was already here (surprise ruined)! Not to make a bad beginning worse, we all pressed on and ordered our drinks .... 9pm rolls around and we FINALLY get water, yes just water, haven't ordered food and our beverages haven't come to the table yet ! The manager comps some free appetizers which arrive about 20 later .... the plates we were suppose to use were filthy(see pic, food still stuck on them and we had to send an entire stack back and request clean plates, even more discussing was my husbands ice tea !!!! Brace yourself, it smelled of Molding Water !!! By this time he had completely lost his appetite! I'm giving this review 2 stars only for the simple fact that our server was wonderful! He truly did his best given he had NO help at all and was stuck serving a large party. I did mention this directly to the manager so she could understand our disappointment had nothing to do with our server. She did discount the bill, but we truly cannot get that day back, my son in law's birthday was completely ruined. We have dined at the Universal City Walk location multiple times and have never experienced anything like this ! I must add that this review was delayed, this incident took place in Feb 2020,obviously before Covid-19, to be fair I wanted to add that. I do see that the business replied to my Yelp review and I will contact them directly to voice my disappointment and more so my concern for future customers and their health! We visited the Redondo Beach location on a Sunday at the noon hour. Where was everyone? Well, I know. Check out this review and it is all you need to know why this restaurant had only 3 parties. Buca di Beppo, what happened?!? We visited the Redondo Beach location and it was a disaster. Let's start with the bathrooms. They are behind the hostess leading into the kitchen. They are filthy and old. The partitions are a salmon pink color from the 80's. The partition pilaster shoes are missing, the faucet was leaking in the men's bathroom and the floors were sticky. A customer looks at the cleanliness of the bathrooms and equals it to the cleanliness of the kitchen. Who is cleaning your bathrooms or rather when was the last time a manager did an inspection and arranged the for necessary deep cleaning and repairs that are drastically needed. Now, the food. WHAT HAPPENED Buca di Beppo? The salad was room temperature, not crisp and cold. There was no flavor even though it had pepperoncinis, cheese, salami. The spaghetti and meatballs was cold and boring. No flavor, no seasonings. The lemon chicken had no flavor. Instead of dressing it with the juice of a lemon, I think butter was used instead. It was just boring and not hot. It seemed like it was warmed up in a microwave and ladled with butter not lemon juice - it definitely wasn't freshly made and fragrant with lemon. Finally, let's talk about the lasagna. If you like ricotta cheese with no seasoning and a very blah tomato sauce, you will love this lasagna. It was not for me. What was interesting - well, it was the brownie sundae just because of the size! Gargantuan! And, someone did spend the time to make it look yummy! On a positive note, the staff were very friendly. I don't think anything I have mentioned is the staff's fault. It is management who is not putting in the money or effort to make it the restaurant it used to be. So, this is was Buca di Beppo needs to do if they want to keep this restaurant open: 1. Robert Earl needs to learn about hands-on management and get himself to this restaurant. You are not doing a good job Robert Earl - it is all on you! For those yelpers reading this, Robert Earl is the Chairman of Buca di Beppo and he needs to be fired! He needs to get back to basics and find out what is happening. Meet with the manager and find out what is going on? Do they know how to schedule people to clean? Do they know when food is going to the table and it is not hot? 2. Review your menu. The food tastes like a manufacturer makes it and it is unwrapped and warmed up in the microwave. 3. Renovate the inside and outside You are either growing or dying and this restaurant is clearly dying. Buca di Beppo needs to either turn this restaurant around or let it die a humane death. I have been at a few other locations, and they were nicer. With this all said, it is the last time I will ever walk in a Buca de Beppo restaurant. read more

However being Italian, to be seated and not brought some olive oil and some kind of dipping bread with out ordering nor being offered was sad, so none the less I had no bread for the marinara on my chicken parm. For a dish of 3 chicken pieces that cost $36 plus tax ( yes that's thirty-six dollars for three pieces - no sides, just the chicken) it was a huge disappointment! I am giving them 1 Star only bc I can not give them a 0. My wife and I order the Lasagna. The noodles were almost black and the ricotta cheese was dry and looked a little moldy. We called the store to express our concern and the hostess (very nice young lady) apologized and said they would make us a fresh one. Picked up the fresh Lasagna and they threw in a peace of cheesecake for our trouble. The Lasagna tasted awful and the cheesecake was literally just a big hunk of cheese with zero crust and it tasted as if it was spoiled. We have lived in the Southbay for 12+ years and we eat out at least 2-3 times a week. We have to say that this was the worst tasting food/experience we've had during our time here. We ordered delivery n paid the premium for delivery to avoid having to deal with the crowds and parking at that location. He offered nothing and suggests we call back Thursday for refund of the bruschetta from our order. I visited Buca di Beppo many years ago and it was only recently when I went back. I had a gift certificate and went to use it for a lunch out with my mom. I wasn't too big of a fan that there back lot it is valet parking only. There's a giant lot on the back but they have sectioned off other portions for other businesses and there are giant signs saying "Absolutely No Buca di Beppo Parking." The only parking for Buca di Beppo in the back is valet. Other options are to park on the street or walk from far away. Buca di Beppo is family style so ideally it's best to go here with a big group. For my mom and I it was way too much food. We got the small Quattro al Forno with cheese manicotti, chicken cannelloni, cheese ravioli and stuffed shells. The small was $33 and feeds 3 (more like 5 in our case because it was so much food! It was also a lot of cheese.) We also got a side of Brussels Sprouts and Proscuitto for $18. The brussels sprouts were my favorite part of the meal here. They were crisp and not burnt. They were good in flavor. There is a photographer who comes around and takes photos of the table. You can purchase the picture for $10. They gave us a small postcard photo for free. Overall Buca di Beppo is a place to go for big groups but not so much for smaller groups. read more

A great meal when you want Italian but not necessarily a family restaurant. It's a great chain that has a reason it does well! I've been here with many people and loved everything we've gotten. Usually I go for the red sauces or baked items like the baked ziti, spaghetti, etc. Personally, I haven't liked their white dishes much. I also love their garlic bread, spicy shrimp, and calamari. Their portions are HUGE! It says you can share a small between 2 people, but I've shared one with 4 and have had leftovers! Their desserts are also really good. Only downside is that you're required to pay for valet. Wish they had public parking for such a casual place. Other than that, the food makes up for it. Jeff is the best waiter! read more

It took about 20 mins after we were seated to get service. The waiter had to shout out to the bartender that she hadn't even stopped at our table. We never a had an actual waiter come and introduced themselves. We were helped by the bar tender all night. I was very disappointed in the Lasagna not because of the taste but it was less than lukewarm. We literally saw a woman receive both her plates piping hot while we got a terrible cut and cold lasagna. I don't know if it was because we were a young looking couple or they just plain don't want to serve us. After the meal it took at around another 15 mins to take our pay. I called the store and Vetta "manager" was super amazing and kindly sent another order for us and she had someone deliver it to us. she was super nice and understanding. she also topped it with salad and dessert on our next purchase. I appreciated Vetta being personable and her professional character in making sure I was happy. she has no idea how grateful I am. I have a very hectic and complex life taking care of my elderly parents, step daughter with traumatic brain injury, I am a sped teacher and recently had surgery. she has no idea how helpful and kind she was to me. It was a 57 degrees outside so we sat inside. There was a vent right above our table blowing cold air on our food. The food was cold in less than 2 minutes. The path to the restroom was past the kitchen. There was this weird sign in the back encouraging the staff to scold people who send wine back and ask annoying questions. YELP 100 CHALLENGE 2018 - 3/100. There is street parking or valet parking. No other parking options. I learned that AFTER the fact. I was lucky enough to score a gift card for this place, so since Hubbers and I haven't been here for over a decade, we decided to put it to good use. I also got a $15 off email invite, so HEY! Per Yelp, there was also a private parking lot. There was a valet stand as I pulled up, but there was no one there, so, thinking there was a private parking lot, I went ahead and parked at the first available open space. As Hubbers and I walked to the restaurant, valet guy got out of his car and told us Bucca is "Valet only." (For $3.) Like I care, I parked my own car. And where was he when we pulled up? He insisted I get a ticket anyway. WTF. Whatever, I was too hungry to get into an argument, so I took a ticket. Hubbers and I walked in and nothing much has changed since our last visit. We walked through the short hallway to the hostess booth except there was no one there. Hubbers and I looked around to see if we can catch someone's attention, but still. The bar is immediately to the right and a bartender finally appeared and asked if we've been helped. We told him, NO, and he immediately said he'll get someone to help us. Larry, our server, came out from the kitchen and asked if we've been helped. I told him NO and informed him we had reservations for 2. He was apologetic for the absence of the front people and asked if we would like a quick tour of the kitchen. "Sure." It was a quick run. And it's good to know there's an option of getting seated BY the kitchen so you can actually see all the chefs and the like work on your meal. We were seated in the same room where the ceiling was beautifully designed with well-positioned wine bottles. This entire restaurant was riddled with many Italian themed pictures and décor. The whole place screamed ITALIAN, for sure. Hubbers and I opted for a couple of glasses of wine (Poggione for him, Buca's Pinot for me) as well as a spicy shrimp to start us off. Larry did warn it is quite spicy, that he could only take 2 at the most. Hubbers likes spicy stuff, so that was a go. He was right - it was quite spicy, but it wasn't spicy enough to completely overcome the entire dish. The shrimp remained the star of the show, cooked tender with that unique garlic flavor and nice salty bites. And the serving was quite generous. There was shrimp aplenty! Highly recommend this, maybe a little lighter on the "spicy" part. For grub, Hubbers and I decided on the linguini frutti di mare and the veal parmigiana. Now, they serve all their dishes family style, so we both knew we were gonna have plenty of leftovers. The linguini was cooked al dente. They didn't skimp on the seafood either, there was so much shrimp, clams, calamari and mussels. The sauce was a good blend. The veal parmigiana was prepped well with just the right amount of sauce. The cheese was a bit heavy for my taste, but good nonetheless. We did have plenty of leftovers for dinner and maybe another lunch meal. There were periods where the service was a bit slow, but Larry was serving almost an entire section by himself, so understood. Besides, Hubbers and I weren't in any hurry. One would think the dishes are a bit pricey. I would agree, but at the same time, you do get what you pay for; quality AND quantity. The overall experience was above par. The only snag, really, is the valet parking. Not really sure what the point of all that was since I parked and pulled the car out all on my own. 3.5 stars. A bit of a distance from home, but the shrimp app as well as the service are enough reasons for me to come back. read more
