My Husband & I brought my daughter and about 5 of her friends for a end of summer night out! They absolutely loved it !! They had such a great time. So I've written a bad review about this particular location before .. has my opinion changed? ABSOLUTELY NOT. Was my experience worse than the first time? Perhaps. Food here is delicious, no issue about it. But when it comes down to service, I think I get better service at Mcdonalds .. and I don't even eat Mcdonalds. Here's the case .. I came back with family on Saturday .. this time no coupons because I want to see if I'd be treated better, well it made no difference. We received bad service through out. It took 10 minutes to get our drinks, another 5 minutes to get our straws after reminding the server twice to get us some. We had to ask for bread .. did he bring the dipping oil and vinegar with it? Nope. Did I have to ask for it? Of course! Did he give us a plate to put it on? Nope! Did I have to ask for it? YUP! How long did all that take? maybe another 10 minutes. Our food finally came, did our server give us new dishes for the pasta? Nope. He figured just let them use the same dishes I gave them for the appetizers. No big deal right? Now I'm not the type of person to treat a server badly during my dinner. I was extremely polite and kind. I figured maybe he was having a bad day but none the less, we all have to do our jobs, right. Went with a coupon, got bad service. Went without a coupon, still got bad service. I guess I'll just keep bringing a coupon. Even if I get bad service, at least I'm getting $10 off or something. I am sitting waiting for our food as I write this review... We have been here several times and enjoy the food, but service is terrible. Tonight in particular has been the worse. We came in with a party of 3 at 7:40 and were told it'd be a 20 minute wait. At 8:00 I asked how much longer, and was told another 15-20 min. (I don't care if it'll be an hour wait, just tell me up front so I can decide then to wait instead of wasting my time. If we were told the real wait time we would have gone some where else). We were sat at 8:20 and greeted 10 minutes later. Every time we've been here, from the moment we sit down to paying for our check, service is slow! We usually have to ask for things multiple times, waters aren't refilled, and we usually wait a while for our check to be presented. One of the best eggplant parmigiana around. It really is exceptional. The bad part of this restaurant is parking. There is nowhere to park except for cash only valet in a sketchy concrete area behind the building. I don't ever carry cash so I need to park several blocks away in order to go. This Bucca also has poor service compared to other locations. They don't automatically serve bread and they tend to ignore smaller tables. I'd recommend just getting the eggplant parmigiana for takeout. read more

I see everyone talking about the huge portions but had the opposite. We had our food "to go" and when we got home I was worried I would have to boil pasta to supplement. It was an early Sunday dinner after a long day on the softball field. I didn't want anything fancy or complicated, I just didn't want to cook. I couldn't believe I paid $15 for a family size salad that barely fed two of us (if I hadn't dished small portions). And $15 for what!? 2 olives, and entire red onion and some ice burg!? I've gotten better salads at the local pizza joint. The baked ziti has was too much ricotta, not enough sauce and again, way too small for what it cost. We had a surprise birthday lunch here with a group of friends. The plan was for everyone to be waiting at the restaurant when the bday girl arrived. Well, she showed up early and not everyone was there yet. The staff helped move us to a hidden temporary location and help gather us together out of sight so we could surprise her after she had been seated. The plan worked and everything went well. The food was very good and we had the whole side area mostly to ourselves. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The art on the wall is odd and amusing. CARRY OUT FOOD IS WAY SMALLER than before. Based on my previous great experiences with Buca, both in the restaurant & carry out, this was surprising & very disappointing. I would have rated Buca 5 stars in the past. But just 2 now. I phone-ordered carry out dinner, wanted Chicken Cacciatore, but they don't do that dish anymore. So I asked for non-pasta suggestions. Chicken Limone sounded ok, so I ordered a Large. The last time I ordered food to go from Buca, a "regular" sized dish was like 18 inches by 12 inches (or so) and in a deep dish, and I expected this would be similar and I said so, she said that a small feeds 1-2 people and a large feeds 4-6 people. I (wrongly) still assumed that we were talking about the same size dishes I have bought there ToGo before. And ordered a "1893" Salad, large. The bill for these 2 dishes came to $56.53 (with tax) and I didn't open it until I got home. Wow, small and expensive! There were just 5 little chicken disks. I don't know how that feeds " four to six people" unless you shave off a little from each to make a 6th piece. I will say that this dish was tasty, the chicken was nicely done, & it comes in a lemony sauce with capers. But small, each disk was probably 3 oz, maybe 4 oz at most, about 3" diameter. And only 5. Nothing else in the dish, although the metal togo container looks like it would hold a lot of food, it was almost empty just 5 chicken disks & some capers, not even 1/4 full. Maybe 1 pound or maybe 1.5 pounds total for the entire "Large dish" for $31 So each little chicken limone disk was $6.20 and that is completely without side dishes of any kind. Oh it did come with a little bit of bread, but not much, about 2 dinner rolls worth. Previously when I ordered a "Large" it was food for like 12 people plus leftovers. I have to say that based on my previous great experiences with Buca, both in the restaurant & carry out, this was surprising & very disappointing. The "Large" 1893 Salad ($21) was just enough for 5 people, maybe 6. But only enough salad dressing for 5. Tasty & fresh, but not the value nor volume I was expecting from Buca. (I was hungry again pretty soon after eating because of the small portions). Anyway, I was hugely disappointed with Buca di Beppo today and not well fed as I expected. Even though the food tasted good, this place used to be a whole lot better. I really doubt I will be back, & especially not for carry out. read more

I only come here for large group events like birthdays and family gatherings for the family style servings. Overall, the food is mediocre but its great for family style meals. The pizzas and eggplant parmesan are the best dishes here, in my opinion. My least favorite are the pasta dishes (ie spaghetti). It's a fun, loud environment for big groups. There's valet parking here, but you can easily find street parking. read more

Never ever ever go here. The service and management are a joke. It took 1 hour 4 minutes past our reservation to get setting. Then the manager never applozized for waiting. I went to bar to get a peroni beer the manager had the NERVE to charge me 7.23 for the beer after complaining ang waiting. I came here for 5pm dinner on a Saturday. Since I came by myself, I sat at the bar and ordered prosciutto stuffed chicken. I didn't like the bar counter itself. There was a ledge on the side closer to me, so the plate couldn't be near the edge. I had to hunch over to get a bite. For eating, I guess their booths and tables would be more comfortable. It took 30 minutes for me to get the chicken. I can't tell if that's normal or not when cooking something like this, but I appreciated it when they told me my food would be coming soon without my asking. Came here last week for the first time and already visited for the second time. When I visit new places I always like to stick to the basics to get a taste for the quality of their food and service. They had a build your own pasta special which was really good. Had a chicken alfredo with spinach, sundried tomatoes and roasted garlic. We ordered the small portion our server suggested for two adults, my 7yr old and 1 yr old. It was definitely the right portion! The pasta was delicious, noodles was cooked to perfection, chicken was fresh, sauce was the the perfect consistency and full of flavor. Service was awesome, ambience was perfect and overall very family oriented. Decor was interesting and fun. We will definitely come back and finish exploring the rest of the menu. Cibely and Kristina took care of our family high school graduation party and attended to our party of 8 's every need. We had small fettuccine w chicken, spaghetti w meatballs, beef ravioli, and a large checked Lemone. Our favorite was the fettuccine - so good!! I also had a great glass of cabernet with my meal. My only disappointment was there was no fresh parmesan. We were given little packets. We were a bit surprised. We smother our pasta at home with parmesan. When you go to Buca, you need to know what to expect. You CAN expect nice sized portions for a reasonable price. You CAN expect reasonably tasty northern Italian food. You CAN expect some cute photos and props surrounding your table. Here is what you can't expect: You CAN'T expect any gourmet, unique, or interesting dishes. You CAN'T expect super-attentive service. You CAN'T expect authentic Italian food. You CAN'T expect a memorable meal. With that said, I should give you a few tips to get the most out of your visit to Buca, First, find a $10 off coupon. They are everywhere. You can find them in Val Paks. You can find them on the internet (google "Buca coupon"). You can find them in lots of other places. Just make sure they're not expired, because Buca is strangely bitchy about that. But always find one because it's so easy and they are so plentiful. Next, DO NOT pay for that terrible valet for $5. Just drive a little bit further down and park at the supermarket. You will NEVER get towed. You can stay as long as you like. Save $5 and walk a few steps. You can also park at Fatburger if they aren't busy, but they are a little more sensitive about using their lot if you are there for Buca. I would just suggest the supermarket. Next. DO NOT be shy about asking for more sauce if they skimp. Make sure they don't charge you for the extra sauce when you get the bill. They will always take it off if you ask them to take it off the bill. Usually they won't even charge you. Finally, ask what is in all of the dishes. They have some surprising and odd ingredients. For example, the chicken parmesan comes with some kind of ham on top, or at least it did last time I was there. Feel free to modify the order if you don't like some of the things they put in their dishes. I go here with my husband when we don't feel like cooking, don't feel like spending a lot, and don't feel like we need a long or fancy meal. Servers were nice, food was good, and a pleasant surprise dessert for our special occasion! They have their own valet staff so parking isn't an issue. The restaurant is decent sized to hold a lot of large groups. The food comes in generous sizes that's plenty filling and the wait staff is very friendly! We got the Chicken Carbonara, Baked Rigatoni, Chopped Antipasti and the Supremo Italiano. The Antipasti was okay, the two pastas were great and the Italiano was very delicious! read more

As for the hostess, every time another party come into our section of the Resturant, she placed them as close as possible to us and the next to them! If you plan to have this place cater for you, be advised that you're gonna have to order a lot, and it will set you back a pretty penny. Chris Kim would rather eat his own Italian food that he makes. It's not that I don't love great service but the lady was so lively I was exhausted just from ordering. Her energy was over the top to the point were I was frightened. And the service itself was great she didn't ignore us, she gave us everything we asked but tried to push the company club a few times and extra stuff like a salad a few times which was not so pleasant. I don't love a pushy salesman when I am hungry and trying to enjoy my food. So being that this was my very first time I am just gonna throw it all on the table and being blunt as can be- Olive Garden rocks my world compared to Buca. The decor was as chaotic and crazy as the waitress. There was not an inch of space that was clear, the ceiling was covered with posters. If you can't catch my drift it basically looked like a few yard sales threw up on the walls. Overwhelming! I'm all for a theme and cute decor of random stuff on the walls but here no one told them to stop. Completely overdone. I do have to point out the place had nice booths though. Moving on cheapest bottle of house wine (Merlot, my favorite) was a 20 dollar bottle from Barefoot which is actually a 7 dollar bottle. (I am a wine-o so I know this.) Okay so I know buying a bottle at a restaurant is a little pricey sometimes but they kinda ripped us off- whatever it was cheaper than paying 7 bucks a glass. Moving on we had a trio appetizer that include fried mozzarella, fried calamari and stuffed mushrooms. Okay I was brought here for the stuffed mushrooms which were good but if we're doing chain restaurants I recommend the stuffed mushrooms at Red Lobster way better. The fried stuff was good but can they really mess that up? This is a family style eating like most Asian places so you order entrees to share. I have not a single compliant about our Eggplant Parmigiana but the Alfredo... The Alfredo even though the noodles were delicious and tasted freshly made the sauce was lacking. Yes! I couldn't believe it either you serve a bowl of pasta with hardly any sauce at all?!? Exactly the pasta was dry which was a first for me! Do to the service and dry pasta I am happy to announce I will not be back. Once again Olive Garden is better with better prices and superior food. I will take a mom and pop place any-day over this joint. Perhaps we just ordered the wrong dish? I am not so sure I want to give it another shot to find out. read more

There are several Buca around, and I had been in the one in Universal Studio Hollywood and this Redondo Beach one. This time we were placed in the bar area, which I've found really inappropriate for my two young children. The decorations in bar area is full of nude and sex hints, and I don't know why we were seated there. Food-wise, it's very good. I like almost everything. read more

This is going to be short. I used to spend every week in sawtelle and we would go to the west side Bucca. I finally came to the south Torrance location for a birthday group , it had been 17 years since I had been back in Bucca, and nothing had changed except that the quality in most of our dishes had went down. The caprese tomatoes were not ideally for authenticity, the Marsala was too salty and the gnocchi was horrible. I've been to south, mid, & north Italia and I'm not going to compare because Bucca would be a 1 star at best, but it's a place I simply leave to prom parties. read more

The staff was apparently slammed on a busy night. Waited 10 minutes to be served after being seated. There was no server to take our order so that was left to the guy who took our drink order. The food was typical Buca quality. Knowing not to expect much service this night all we asked for was the check and for our brownie dessert order to be to-go. Check came, waited 10 minutes and asked the guy about our dessert. He said he will check but never saw him again. Waited another 15 minutes, saw our neighboring table served the brownie they ordered after us. Now I'm really pissed! We get there at 9:45 and we're told it'll be a couple of minutes, 2 couples walk in after us one of them had a reservation for 11:00 pm and they both got seated before us. Went to the hostess and asked why we haven't been seated yet (the place was pretty empty) and they said all the empty tables were reserved for big parties. AGAIN the place was empty with no big parties waiting to be seated. We decided to leave, unfortunately for us we have a gift card to use, I'm thinking of giving it back to the person that gave it to use for them to use.
