Another mediocre Olive Garden type BS Italian wanna be restaurant. My husband and I was invited to our best friend's nephew's graduation party at this place last night. The place was packed to the fullest. (Basically everyone was sitting shoulder to shoulder) I still don't understand why. We had Cesar Salad, Fried Calamari, Bruschetta, Eggplant Parmigiana, Chicken Parmigiana, Stuffed Shells, Meatballs, Spicy Italian Sausages. Fettuccine Alfredo ect. It all tasted instant and bland. In fact both my husband and I have upset stomachs this morning from the meals we had last night. On top of it they ran out of Tap beer by 7:30pm on a Saturday night.?? What place does that?? Mom's been craving Italian food. I took her to one place that was just awful. I was thinking this would be better because it's a chain and I had heard it was good. It's an improvement from the other day but this place is still a one star. We got seated right away. The waitress asked if we've ever been here before and of course, we said no. She explained that the food is family style and that we could order whatever we wanted but then she said if you order too much I'll tell you to stop ordering. My instant thought was what if I order lots because I want to take it home for left overs? But I kept that idea to myself and just lowered their rating a few stars. As we looked over the menu she walked by several times. She came over and asked if we wanted any house Chianti. No, we don't drink... and from that instant it seemed like whatever was left of her somewhat friendly demeanor just disappeared. When we were ready to order, we could not find her at all. We waited and waited and waited. Finally, we ordered - spaghetti and meatballs, veal parmigean and the side of Italian sausage. The meatball was huge! 2 mega meatballs but unfortunately, it reminded me of the store bought meatballs. I've no idea if they are house made or from the freezer but to me, I think it came from the freezer. The veal too - looked and tasted like it came out of a box and only deep fried and sauce poured on top. The sausage was ok... one was mild and the other spicy. It had no flavor at all. I know there are a lot of people out there who just love this place. Can't go wrong with Italian food, right? Don't get me wrong, I don't think Buca is the worst place to go for Italian - hence, the three stars. Also, the antipasto salad is very tasty! And, the service was prompt and decent. However, Buca just doesn't do it for me. Seems to be missing a certain "Je ne sais quoi" of sorts. I find their pasta to be quite bland and their pizza is just too greasy for my taste. I may not be a connoisseur of Italian cuisine, but this seems to lack in flavor and texture. I won't comment on innovation, because Buca is intended to be home-style traditional Italian meals...therefore, not much room for the cooks to innovate, and their clients would probably not appreciate some off-the-wall new dish with all the bells and whistles of a nuveau restaurant. All and all, Buca is just okay. The portions are ginormous, but that in my book does not compensate for taste...but it does give you leftovers for your next day's lunch. read more

I would given this 2 stars, but because of $10 coupon I gave it one extra star. I must be in Valentine mode giving away stars... Pros: Large portion meals and seating. If you have a large group, this is a great spot. Cons: PARKING sucks in this area. Let me take that back. This restaurant wanted to charge $2. 50 for valet parking. If not, be prepare to bring long distance running shoes. Or you can always take some sort of public transportation from your parking spot to Buca Di Beppo... FOOD is ok. From the bread to the pasta to the pizza, nothing really special about it. Warm soft bread would be nice. The pasta tasted dry. Pepperoni pizzas, which I love and can eat all day, wasn't all that. My review is for online take out. 2 stars felt mean so I'm going with 3..I placed my order online, that process was fairly easy they gave me a time to be there and I was right on time. They tried to make us Valet and I can tell you that was not happening no matter what they said. The decor is lovely, sort of dark, very pretty. The whole entire place was empty except for 2-3 tables. You have to walk to the back near the kitchen which was fine, the girl there was sweet and attended to me quickly but I was told part of my order was ready but they were still waiting on the rest. Buca has the best food, vibes, and customer service. My friend and I had the Baked Ziti and the Margherita pizza and they were both so delicious. Buca also knows how to love on their customers really well - aka really great coupons and deals! After applying my coupon, my meal came out to a whopping $16 and I still had leftovers. I had the pleasure of having my rehearsal dinner here one week ago. What a wonderful expierence! When we walked in I was greeted by the manager who had our tables and space reserved for 42 of us!! My drink tickets in hand and staff ready to go! The food came out quick, starting with our salad, followed with entrees and finished with dessert! It was all delicious! They boxed up all our left overs! We did family style, which was perfect! They worked with our budget and our menu! My god " WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO BUCA " I don't frequent BUCA that often other than for large gatherings, I have always enjoyed coming to BUCA weather it be this one in Redondo, Universal, Huntington Beach or Anaheim, we've always have good experiences, but this past Sunday's experience has pretty much turned me off from ever dining at BUCA ever again. We had a party of 12 and we're celebrating a birthday, as we we're waiting to be seated the wife and a couple other people mentioned how it smelled like a sewer in there, my sense of smell is kinda jacked so I couldn't confirm. I have to be honest, the food was great especially the calamari, we also had prosciutto stuffed chicken, baked ziti, a spicy pasta dish and Caesar salad, like I said no complaints with the food. The disappointment was the service, and I believe service is a major part of a good meal and a good time, especially when you have a big party, our waitress would disappear for long periods of time, we had three kids in our party, and we all know how restless kids can get, well all the food came out and only one of the kids got their meal, the other two had to wait about another 15 minutes, I personally believe they forgot to place that order. Another issue is how dirty the place seemed, if your going to let customers walk through the kitchen to get to the bathroom you have to make sure the floors are not greasy and slippery, as far as the bathroom I've never had my feet slipping out from under me while standing at the urinal, I'm sure it was the grease from the kitchen floors, a little more attention to the bathrooms would be nice. Parking, what a joke, they only have two handicap parking spaces, I believe if you don't have enough handicap spaces you shouldn't penalized your customers by forcing them to pay the 3 dollars for parking in their valet parking, especially if you don't even valet. All in all like I said the food was great but the overall experience sucked. I think if I decide to give BUCA another chance it will be take out. read more

We love this place for eating with the family, or just the two of us! If we can, we like to eat at the kitchen table and watch the bustle behind the scenes. The servers have always been warm and friendly. The second time we came in on a Tuesday night, our waiter, Drew, actually remembered us and mentioned that we had been there the previous Tuesday! That really impressed me, because I had to think back to get the day. Our waitress the other night, Sarah, was just as great! I'm very impressed with how they send out runners so the food gets to the table ASAP. That's why you often get more than one waiter. Since they took the warm tomato spinach salad off the menu (I think the spinach scare did that one in), we always share the Apple Gorgonzola Salad. Lately, I love the mussels, with or without the linguini, and Rob usually gets a pasta. It's a lot of food, but we each get what we like and we take half home for another meal. I just remembered something that also impressed me... a couple of months ago, we ordered a dish that comes with capers. I think it was chicken with lemon and capers. The capers were one of the things that helped us decide on that dish. When the meal came, the capers were missing. When we realized it, we mentioned it to the manager, who was visiting the next table. Our waiter showed up immediately (I guess we should have waited to tell him), and the manager told him to bring us some capers and our dessert would be on the house! My favorite Italian shop closed due to retirement, so I wanted to go somewhere new for my birthday. We decided upon Buca since it was close by and I had positive experiences before. Let's start by saying we had to wait an unusually long time to be offered a drink. We ordered bread to dip in olive oil and had to ask for it, and ask another waiter for a refill since it had been so long that we had seen our server. We got our food and it was tasting good, but then I found a giant chicken bone in my food. It grossed me out and freaked me out so I didn't want to continue eating the dish. I told our server and he apologized. I assumed he would send a manager since I told him I didn't want to continue eating the pasta dish.... Waited about ten more minutes, no server, no manager.. Finally he brought the check and no discount or offer for anything to be altered on the bill. I wanted to speak to a manager (since I'm a restaurant manager myself) and it took so long that I gave up because we were running out of time to get home to our babysitter. Moral of the story, the food tastes good, but the service was HORRIBLE and we were his only table... The management wasn't seen in the store at all, and our issues weren't addressed. We started off really good, the attention to our table was fantastic. But then the food arrived. The meatballs and spaghetti. The meatballs were not fully cooked so therefore we all got really sick. This place is very close to ITALIAN RISTORANTE and will never disappoint you with the great tasting food and BIG family size portions! I usually go for a pizza pie because it's simply GREAT!! Very simple, always fresh ingredients, hot from the oven, pie is served on top of the two tin cans :)...delicious treat. If I can recommend go for large size pizza and get half of PIZZA SPINACHI and other half of PIZZA CON POLLO! My favorite combination! Buca has always been a reliable stand-by for decent Italian food. And, that was the case when we dined here last Saturday night. Even though the portions are huge (we ordered small versions of our two entrees for two people) it just feels overpriced for what you get. Their wine list reeks of the most pedestrian labels you can imagine. Absolutely nothing notable--and yes, I know this is a chain but they could still have some halfway decent wine. We were seated right next to the bar back area for dinner even though the place wasn't more than half full. I should have asked to be moved but we stayed put. The smell of spilt beer lingered throughout the evening. The bright spot of our night was our server who was really top notch. She was friendly without being overzealous and made the evening pleasant. I'm sure we'll be back again, when no other options are available. read more

OKAY..I'm not saying this is a fine dining establishment. The food is very Chef Boyardee BUT if you liked it as a kid, you will like it over here. First of all, this place is LOUD and CROWDED, but if you have reservations, it should be quick to get seated. The large family style plates are enormous. The service can be a little slow but that can be attributed to the servers having multiple tables of twenty guests. I love their GIANT, softball size meatballs. I went there for my youngest sister's 16th birthday. The food there isn't the best. Olive Garden have better food. As food there is a bit below average, the experience there is fabulous. The inside almost slaps you silly with all of the cute decorations covering every square inches of the walls. What a visual orgy! There's alway something new to look at! And the background, there's opera singing from above which I think it's coming from the speakers well hidden from view. Our waitress (who's also the manger there) was a cute, friendly, and funny Brooklynite; she made our dining experiences one of the most pleasant. When she somehow found out that it was my baby sister's sweet 16, she took out a huge chandelier-like candle set and sang happy birthday. My sister thought I was part of the conspiracy to embarrass her in front of about 30 strangers. The manger/waitress admitted that it was all her doings, which saved me from her wrath. Yeah. She was fun. I would love to go there again just for the experience. Oh One final thing, always go in group and then split the cost. Most of the things on the menu are a la carte and served in huge portions which would require a group to finish just half of the order! If you go out with a grop where everyone is expected to chip in evenly, the cost will be quite fair. read more

Roudy little Italian family restaurant, great for large groups.. be ready to soak in the cheesy overkill of everything Italian.. in a fun, silly way. The food is very good and the proportions are generous. We recently held our wedding rehearsal dinner here and it was great. TONS of great food for the price and plenty of meal and course type options to choose from. The sales person that I dealt with leading up to dinner was easy to deal with and the wait staff was great. The only minor drawback to holding a rehearsal dinner here is that there is no real private room, but they seemed to do their best to not sit anyone near us and we had plenty of room for our party of 35 which included some kids. I would recommend it for the price and quality of food for big parties. read more

About the Redondo Beach location - their service is so so. It's a family style restaurant, therefore my family don't expect much since it's always crowded and loud. Sometimes we ran into a nice and helpful waiter, and sometimes not. For those customers who complained about service, complain no more. If you are happy, leave a BIG tip, if not happy ... you know what to do. The food is authentic and it tastes GREAT! We've been to Italy a few times, Rome, Florence, Naples, Venice, ... This is as good as the food in Italy. Rating - Food - 4* Ambiance - 3* Service - sometimes 3* , sometimes 5* Don't ever host a party there, especially office party. Be wary of this place if you are using gift cards. The policies at this place stink. I placed an order to pickup. They had a $20 coupon advertised so I was going to use that and pay the rest with a gift card. They said that gift cards cannot be used with promotions . This is a crummy rule. Gift cards should be able to be used like cash. I have not had any other restaurant deny use of gift cards. To compound the situation the order was not ready on time and food was bland.
