As so many come with pet dogs why not welcome them with either sliders like they do at Four Dogs at Marshalltown Inn or a full menu like at Mercato in West Chester? Pet owners would appreciate it and if they are like me don't care about the cost just so their puppy is happy. Chef Angel makes a special chicken pea and carrot dish my pup loves at Naked Olive in Kennett. I guess that's why we go to their restaurant so often. Wake up! The food was quite good and the waiter did his best but the kitchen failed to fulfill a dinner order. We complained about the lack of the dinner and the waiter said he would follow up. He did not. We then went to someone we thought may be able to reach a manager but the manager never came out to find out what went wrong. So, about 20 minutes after the other orders came to the table, the waiter delivered the missing order and never apologized for the long delay. He admitted that the kitchen did not get the order. As frequent customers of this restaurant, it was sad to be ignored and charged for a very late dinner. They can do much better than this. read more

After an event at Winterthur museum yesterday, we decided to try a local place for dinner before the 40 minute drive home, and Buckley's came up first on my search and very close by. It's a nice looking restaurant, historic and charming, and busy! It was a nice relaxed atmosphere and the menu had everything for everyone in a wonderful array that really tempts your pallet. We had crab cakes, shrimp and grits, and creme brulee for dessert, each dish was the best we've ever had! Crab cakes were not stuffed with filler like most places, with a perfectly cooked risotto and vegetables. Grits are rare to find on any menu and were cooked perfectly with tender shrimp and tasty sauce. The brulee was just PERFECTION topped with juicy berries. It was a bit pricey but well worth every penny with the quality of food at the highest level we've seen in a long while anywhere! The waiter was super helpful and very pleasant. Food came out in a timely manner and presented beautifully. Very glad we found this place and We will definitely be coming back here on our next trip! read more

I ate at Buckley's yesterday and several hours later was violently ill from the crab cake. None of my other family members who ate there got sick. I called to let the restaurant know incase they had a bad batch of crab meat before it was served to anyone else. The owner became very defensive and rude and then proceeded to try to diagnose me, meanwhile my husband and other family members are physicians so I thought that was comical. I told him I wasn't looking for a refund, gift card or any compensation because I won't be returning. I simply wanted to let him know incase anyone else got sick. read more

Even while short staffed, we enjoyed plenty of one-on-one attention from our bar tenders and back of the house wait staff, however, my dinner was terrible. The Chicken Pot Pie was nothing but very, very thin cream soup with a mini crust covering. I literally had to use a spoon for the whole meal. There was minimal cubed, bland chicken, maybe 10 peas, a lot of celery and some carrot bits that were 75% smaller then a pea. This meal was 90% bland sauce and maybe 5 mouth fulls of meat. The serving was large but I was actually hungry when I finished the meal. Used to love this restaurant, but having driven from Newark, Delaware just to enjoy a meal here that was expensive and terrible, I definitely won't bother going back. read more

Stopped in for a drink before a wedding. That was all. Bartender was either hard of hearing (thinking this was the case), or extremely rude. She was still somewhat rude to start with, not very friendly or welcoming. Menu looked promising, and other people seemed to be enjoying the food okay. We were told there would be a 15 minute wait for an outside table for 4. We had a dog with us and could not sit inside. we also had a very hungry 3 year old. We watched 3 groups, who came in after us, get seated. the hostess response was that no one was getting up. After waiting 45 minutes beyond the original time estimate it was apparently against the rules to seat 4 people at a table that seats 5. We did not get to eat here because we were waiting for a table to be cleared for 15 minutes after the pervious patrons left. The hostess walked by the dirty table twice but was then busy on her phone and talking with the other hostess. When we decided the frustration was not worth the meal we told the hostess we were leaving because it was really poor service. She said "we get that all the time"! We've been there several times and have always enjoyed our meals. They have a great beer selection, great food, friendly & efficient staff, and a very nice front porch and roof-top terrace for dining. Went to Buckleys last night for a dinner. Food is fine, service was OK, but I was surprised to see an attempted charge on my credit card for THOUSANDS of dollars this morning!! Spoke with today's manager who stated someone must have tried to place the check number in the amount and did not hit cancel. Fortunately, my bank picked this up as fraud. I have no idea what system they use that could allow this BUT I can honestly say this has NEVER happened to me before at any restaurant ever. If you go, go with cash. read more

We arrived here with our group bus tour. Service was terrible. We were kept waiting 45 minutes just to be served our drink orders (water, iced tea, soda - not cocktails from the bar. Why did it take 45minutes to bring me a glass of seltzer??!!) The mushroom soup I ordered was weird - not like any I've ever had before. It had an odd texture, and the mushrooms seem to have been ground up. No sliced mushrooms at all. It was served with fried onions on top that seemed to be stale. My companions had either the clam chowder or salad, which they said was ok. The entrees were underwhelming. The meatloaf was very pedestrian as was the lasagna. Not bad but not good either. Mediocre. The chicken pot pie was strange. No pie crust on top but rather a strange round disk of ... Cracker?? Not sure, but definitely not like any normal version of chicken pot pie. Service continued to be poor - almost nonexistent. Not once were we checked on to see if we needed anything. I had to flag someone down for a glass of water. Dessert was better - a reasonable cheesecake with some lovely fresh berries on top. However, they didn't bring coffee until AFTER everyone had finished dessert. Again, very poor service. So, sadly, an overall poor experience here. Terrible service with mediocre (and some odd) food. I will not be returning. What a disappointing experience. We were 3 couples. 5 of the 6 meals came out 1 hour after we were seated. As the server went to walk away we asked about the 6 th meal. He said he'd check and never came back. I got up didn't see our waiter and walked to the hostess stand and told her the problem. She went into the kitchen and claimed the seared tuna was still being cooked. Since this should have been the quickest meal to prepare this made no sense. After waiting awhile longer my friend who was still waiting for her meal went up to the hostess and asked for the manager. No manager ever came to the table. Our original waiter finally came to the table. We told him we were still waiting for the meal and also the round of drinks we had previously asked for. Finally when 5 out of six of us were almost done eating he brought the drinks and then the sixth meal. He never apologized. No manager ever checked in with us. When we were there most tables on the first floor were empty. So there was no excuse for the abysmal service. I would not go back. read more

Great place for team dinners. We had 5 minutes left of happy hour and quickly made the most of it. Beers all around and seconds. We had a starter of calamari, mushroom flat bread and mushroom ragu. I come to find out that this is supposed to be the mushroom capital of the world and their dishes are labeled to be Exotic mushrooms but am very curious to find out what Exotic mushrooms were used? The calamari was crispy and perfectly fried. They have fried food mastered here. The fish and chips is a boat load of fish on a bed of fries. I had the short ribs but subbed the starch for fries. The ribs were good and would be dry without the good dollop of sauce covering the mound of meat. The accompanying asparagus was crispy tender and perfectly cooked. I followed with the chocolate mousse and was thankful that it was a thin slice. read more

Been twice. First time during last winter (2020) and the food and service was superb. Went again this past Christmas after Longwood Gardens with the extended family. I feel the need to report the service here as others have recently commented it also. For owner reference: I came here Monday 4/10 for dinner around 7pm and sat at the bar with a friend and MARY was behind the bar. It took over 20 mins to even place a drink order and ANOTHER HOUR to just order food. My friend literally had to RAISE HIS HAND like a child to get noticed by the bartender. She saw us multiple times and literally ignored us. She was just too busy "entertaining the regular's" to pay any attention to anyone else. Did you ever wonder what makes someone a regular...good food and good service. Good food alone will not bring people back consistently if you can't deliver on service. For the record, I've worked in the service industry and I don't expect nor want to be waited on hand and foot. Good service is not hard to deliver. We honestly have never had a bad meal here, but service is a 50/50 shot...and when it's bad, it's really bad. I also can't recall a time when I never left a tip...but she treated us like garbage. The total was around $33, which I clearly remember, but the charge that came through my credit card was $40...so she FORGED THE RECEIPT and gave herself a nice 20% tip. After this last experience, it's going to be quite some time before I consider going back. Warning to others to pay close attention to your receipts and charges to your credit card when leaving here. read more

My continued search for a good Sunday brunch spot brought myself and my girlfriend to Buckley's Tavern. I won't be back. When we arrived we tried to walk in the front door and found it to be locked. After going around back and entering through the door to the dining room I told a gentleman at the hostess station about the door and he said dismissed me saying that it just sticks some times. A few minutes later I saw him go out and unlock the door. Yes, that lock sticks nice and tight. We opted for a table outside and ended up on the front patio. The weather was nice enough but the plants out there attract a lot of bees so if you're allergic, be aware. Also, due to the construction the table was off kilter. We were presented with a "pastry plate" which had two small muffins, a scone, and a piece of some kind of bread on it. I opted to go simple and got some eggs over easy. I was brought a plate with my eggs on it and homefries. When I tried to cut myself a piece of egg white, I found them to be just as runny as the yokes. Once the yoke was cut, I realized that I was going to have a problem. The pastry assortment wasnt nearly enough to deal with this now soup of egg that I had running around my plate. I asked for toast and was presented with what amounted to warm bread and rock hard butter packets. not wanting to wait longer, I sopped up the egg to the best of my ability. They advertise their Sunday Brunch as a pajama brunch. If you wear your pajamas you get half off. When I saw people leaving a realized what they did. Just wear your regular sunday clothes and put a robe on over it. Perfecto! a $9 brunch! Our food was average, at best, and definitely not $18 of goodness. I'm happy to say that my toast and coffee ended up being included in that. If you own a robe, I think that this meal is worth the $9 as advertised, but otherwise the 2 star description of "Meh, I've experienced better" is appropriate. read more

My family and I celebrated my sister's graduation from University of Delaware last week with a delightful dinner at Buckley's Tavern. Located in beautiful Centreville, DE - Buckley's has something for everyone. From casual dishes like macaroni & cheese and burgers to more upscale plates like steaks, fish, and crab cakes. I shared the Calamari as an appetizer, which was crispy and succulent. For my main dish, I ordered one of the daily specials - a seasonal vegetable quiche. The quiche was packed with a ton of vegetables. Overall, the quiche was a solid 3/5 or so - maybe a little bit too wet/eggy, and not that firm. But - the crust was delicious. For dessert, my boyfriend and I shared the daily seasonal cobbler - an incredible strawberry/rhubarb cobbler that was a sweet note at the end of the meal. Delicious! read more

Wow! My husband and I came here yesterday. We're from out of state and were just looking for a local restaurant near our hotel. I'm glad I didn't look at their Yelp rating because at only 3 stars, I might have passed on this gem. I can't imagine why they only have 3 stars. The waitress was very friendly to us, so no complaints there.... We had two drinks each of their specialty cocktails and they were delicious.... The food was ALL great... their mushroom soup was super tasty, I loved it. I got a salad with salmon on top and I liked that the waitress asked how I wanted the salmon cooked. A lot of places don't ask.... almost EVERYONE overcooks salmon and they cooked it medium rare... it was perfect! Hubby had a couple of apps and an entree and loved all of that, too. We had a fantastic experience here. Loved the 'quaint' atmosphere, as well. One other thing that I like is that the owner (I think it's the owner) responds to all the comments here on Yelp. That shows me that they care, and take their customer's suggestions and comments seriously. Most don't bother to read them or comment. I don't know if or when we'll be in the area again, but if so, we will definitely come back here! read more

So glad we found this little place. Since moving to the area have been in search of a bar/grill/tavern with some atmosphere. What struck me most was the friendly staff Seemed many at the bar the afternoon I was there were locals as the bartender joked with all. We were a little too early for the live music unfortunately but we'll be back to check it out. I want to try the mac and cheese that I saw someone else eating and it looked quite yummy. read more

We've been going to Buckley's Tavern for years and it's a great place to socialize but our favorite salads have been lacking the ingredients they used to have. The beet salad used to be our favorite but we probably won't be ordering that again. Fewer Beets, lack of their candied cashews, less dried fruit and to pick it up the weight is half of what it used to be. The poached pear salad was lacking as well. We'll still go there to socialize but our choice of our meal will have to change. read more
