It's a good place to have fun with family but sometimes the customer service isn't too great like the refill, checking on your customer, or even giving us the wrong food still. I got fish and shrimp and it didn't taste too fresh. I should have gotten a burger or something like that. Fresh seafood is not their strong point in my opinion. Maybe it was an off day. Not sure but the fish and shrimp tasted kind of off. The hush puppies were pretty dam good. The loaded bake potatoes was really good as well. I really wish the fish and the shrimp were fresh. Came to bud jones always have great service but when I was ready to order from Kathy she stop me from ordering just because she wanted to get my drink or order she have a note pad for a reason so when she brought my drink she went and took another table order. This place serves decent enough slop. You don't come here for quality food. It's just bad yet tasty country type food. Frozen fries, caned veggies, questionable meat. It's tasty enough to be a guilty pleasure. Now, it is very overpriced for what it is. A typical table looks to have the large country fried steak smothered in packet made gravy and instant mash or a sad improperly cooked baked potato, and a sad little salad smothered in ranch dressing and a weak glass of tea. The other person is likely ordering the all you can eat fish with the bland fries that are surely frozen and not cut. What's weird is that a few years ago they remodeled the place with tacky fish place decor, yet it made everything look more dated. Lol I suspect this is to cover up the other wear n tear they didn't want to fix or update and to hide the filthyness that could be underneath. Let me start by saying our waitress was fantastic. Very attentive for our large party. That being said I ordered the Canadian cheese soup. While the flavor was good it was served almost cold. The friend I was with ordered a large platter that consisted of fried fish, fried oysters and a crab cake. None of it was edible and lacked flavor. I was excited for the onion rings and those were also cold and bland. The food is still reasonably priced which leads to believe that is the reason so many people still eat there and the building and interior is still the same from years ago which adds to the nostalgia. Bud Jones has been around since I was a kid. My parents never took me there but I finally stepped inside in the last couple of years. The food has never disappointed. They serve large portions and claim to have the biggest chicken fried steak and enchilada plate. Luckily, there's a lady-size chicken fried steak that still fills you up to coma status. There's a kids and senior menu. They are currently finishing their renovations to the decor. Before, everything was brown, brown, brown. Now it's sea foam green. Nothing exciting but definitely an improvement. My kid loves to sit in the booths that have mini-jukeboxes and she orders the all-you-can-eat spaghetti. She can't even get through half the first bowl. The cashier says some customers can down 3 bowls. Now that's dedication! I order different things such as the lady steak, delicious fish tacos, creamy beef and cheese enchiladas. The fried pickles basket is plentiful. I like the old-fashioned diner experience, the decent prices and friendly staff. I've never waited for a table even when it appears packed. It's good food, plain and simple. read more

A fried fish fillet, fried shrimp and fries. The fish and shrimp were both good and served nice and hot. Love love love the food here. The breakfast is until 1:00 pm on weekends that we know of. The dinner is good too. I've been coming here for about 40 years and always loved the homemade thousand island dressing! The biscuits are awesome too! I usually alternate between the pecan and blueberry pancakes. The food is usually good here--especially the fish. But I took my father to eat and everything was ice cold. We had the biggest fish platter they had, with fish, shrimp, oysters, baked potatoes and onion rings. We sent my father's back, and they brought him a brand new one and it was all STILL cold. I've eaten here a couple times years ago. My favorite thing to order was the chicken fried chicken, it had flavor, it wasn't too thick and it's a huge portion. We came back today and it was just awful. Zero flavor on the chicken and the batter, it was very bland & when I bit into my chicken it was chunky and gross. You could tell it had not been tenderized. It was like taking a bite into a thick cut of chicken breast that had been boiled then breaded and fried. The mashed potatoes are powdered potatoes, the French fries were also flavorless. The upside is my husband enjoyed his fish plate, but I wish I had ordered something else. Will not be back. read more

Boyfriend had been dying to take me to Bud Jones. My parents used to eat there in the 80s, before I was born, when they lived on the Southside of town. We never went when I was a kid but his family ate there a lot. Prices at this place are fantastic. Boyfriend got "all you can eat" fish. I got the Surf and Turf, which was one piece of fish and a "small" chicken fried steak. "Small" is not how I would describe it but I will let the picture speak for itself. The food was good, except for the baked potato. It was just too dry for my taste. Our server was on point, refills, polite, and the food came out fast. My bf and I both ordered the country fried steak and got the chili cheese fries for our appetizer. The fries were okay, not good but not bad. However the steak was pretty gross.. after taking the first bite I knew it wasn't good. Something about the meat was just nasty.. possibly old meat ? Worst place to eat at. I heard the quality of the food went downhill over the years but decided to give it a try since I haven't been there in 15 years. The food was beyond disappointing. The "rosemary" potatoes my husband ordered was nothing but over boiled bland potatoes with no seasoning. The salad I had was completely drenched in ranch that I couldn't finish the salad. The green beans we ordered was too oily. Basically all we had was the chicken fried steak because it was the only tolerable thing to eat although it didn't have much of a taste. I complained to the waiter which he notified the manager and the "best" she could do was take only my drink off the check which was $2.25. No one will ever mistake Bud's for fine dining, but it has always been a consistently good choice for basic fare. I brought my mother along, and here's the scoop from today's visit. Service - 5 Stars We arrived at 5:00 PM, so just ahead of the evening crowd which started to file in shortly after. We were promptly seated, and the waitress appeared after just a few seconds to take our drink order, which she then brought out after only a couple of minutes. We opted for an order of Super Nachos as an appetizer, and I ordered "The Largest Enchiladas in Town" while my mother selected the Country Fried Steak. The nachos came out quickly. Once we finished them the empty plates were immediately cleared away and our main orders arrived just moments after. The waitress was friendly, polite and attentive. Food - 4 Stars The Super Nachos were tasty. Perhaps just a little on the soggy side, but not overly so. The Jalapenos were a bit too mild for my taste. Could have used a little more kick The Enchiladas were very good, and the portion size lived up to it's name. Not sure if they are actually the largest in town, but they were enough to fill me up. The rice and beans were average. My only complaint would be the tortillas. Hard and dry. Mom reports the CFC was good, but nothing outstanding. She liked the cole slaw, the fries were OK but a bit soggy. Total cost $36.79 +tip for a large appetizer, 2 main courses and 2 drinks. Maybe I'm out of touch, but seems just a bit high for Bud Jones fare. $$ Ambiance/Decor - 3 stars What can I say, it's Bud Jones. The building is old, it's been through a fire and a few remodels. It's clean and functional, and someone actually played Pink Floyd's "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" on the jukebox. That and a plate of enchiladas were enough ambiance for me. After seeing all the one and two star ratings it reminded me of the disastrous birthday dinner our extended family attended for my younger brother. He chose this place and I have to wonder why. The first thing that failed were the Cole slaws in the tiny bowls. Those cabbage strips were sitting in pools of water. Whatever salad dressing or mayo they used was diluted in water. I did not eat any of it after tasting it. The second thing that was sub-par was the actual meal serving. I avoided the chicken fried steak entirely, expecting that it would be unsatisfactory. Years before I gave it a chance and found it uninspiring. (Why does anyone want to have a breaded piece of meat smothered in a water-flour mix?) Long long ago I had a nice meal at this place. It's sad to see that the quality has slipped so far down. When a place hires people to cook food for the public they should get people who know what they are doing. read more
