Really love this authentic coffee shop. I got the Palo Santo latte which was a bit on the small side, but honestly any more of that coffee probably would've been too much for my own good! My sister got the dirty horchata latte iced which she was really excited about, she didn't end up liking it and I think it was because the latte itself turned out to be very fragrant and a little watered down. But the flavor was there! I think it was a mistake on our part. Definitely will be ordering the horchata latte hot next time! And I have a feeling we won't be disappointed. We brought our cute little dog with us just to order and the baristas were so friendly! I hate leaving my dog in the car and they even came out from behind the bar and gave him a treat!! So sweet he loved the attention. Definitely stop by here! I went to the cafe on a Saturday morning and it was surprisingly peaceful. I usually assume that cafes in Costa Mesa are bustling but Buenas is open-walled and located in a spacious plaza so everyone was spread out doing their own thing. The Chet's Choice Latte is a delicious fall drink - it tastes like bananas and cinnamon. I couldn't believe they sell Coffee Soda because I heard about the trend just that day. We were excited to see that there was a local Latin inspired coffee shop. Endless to say, when we walked in we were a bit disappointed to see there were no Latinos, a small selection of pan dulce that wasn't made in house. We chose the Palo Santo & Taza De Maza. 2.5/5 this place has a small menu as it is, yet both drinks I ordered were unenjoyable. I got the taza de maza, and my bf got the peppermint patty, which is seasonal. taza de maza is a mazapan inspired drink, but if someone were to hand me this without telling me what it is, I would never guess it was that. it tastes very, very artificially sweetened and definitely has no nutty flavor. Tierra de mia has a better mazapan drink if anything. here, the taza de maza is cappuccino-size and comes hot or iced. I got mine iced but there was no ice in the drink lol. I like my iced lattes with ice. the peppermint patty was also disappointing. again, it doesn't taste like peppermint nor mocha. I'd never be able to guess that's what it's supposed to be if I didn't already know prior. I would best describe it as tap water with a subtle aftertaste of minty chocolate and maybe a splash of milk. neither of us are picky, but the coffee here was a huge disappointment. I will not be returning except if I really really need to order an americano and this was the only option. the interior was alright, random homey decor. they do have a nice outdoor seating area which is the only plus. the service is just average as well, nothing more than the bare minimum. read more

I came around opening - it's such a random place and I took the wrong turn and ended up back on the freeway. It's a very open layout with chairs inside and out. Very trendy and modern, corporate vibe. There are outlets but few seats next those. The barista working was so so cool! I had a great time just having her explain the drinks to me. I ended up with an espresso (with sparkling water) and a horchata latte (already made with oat milk) to go. I don't know why I drank so much caffeine that day but the flavors were great. A little tricky to find but worth finding this spot. Unique lil coffee shop off Paularino with some different twists on some coffee favorites. The iced mocha had a dark chocolate base that was very tasty. In hind site I will order with 1/2 the milk or may be a lowfat option but the taste of the coffee and mocha was really good. Parking is fair, the shop is nice and clean, some seating and I think they had a outdoor patio. The young lady was super nice and seemed genuinely happy to explain the drinks and shop history. I got pushed back to in office after 2 years working at home, having a new cool lil coffee shop close is a nice surprise. read more

Great coffee and east to access. My go to is an iced latte. It's made very well, and the flavor is earthy but not too bold. Highly recommend coming here if you're around. By the time of this writing, we would have gotten coffee from here a handful of times. We don't live nearby but will often find ourselves in the area on the weekends. There's no doubt they make really great espresso drinks. My go-to is an iced Palo Santo while hubby usually jumps around and tries different things every time he's there. I especially enjoy the way they treat some of their drinks like cocktails. I could be wrong but it seems their portions are smaller than other coffee places. To be fair, my Palo Santo is shaken and served up in a small maybe 8oz cup so maybe it might be a different size with ice? But hubby tends to get hot drinks and those are in small cups, too. For that reason, Buenas is probably a smidge more expensive than other coffee places. That being said, I haven't had anything I disliked here. They seem to put a lot of care into their products and it shows. Almost everyone is friendly and makes an effort to chat with you like you're a friend. I wanted to like Buenas, but unfortunately, the overall experience fell pretty flat for me. COFFEE: I ordered an iced oat milk latte and the Ms. Fizz, a seasonal drink inspired by the Old Fashioned. The drinks are TINY for the prices - the latte can't be more than 12 oz, and the Ms. Fizz was maybe 8-10? I'm used to getting a 16 oz. drink when I'm paying $5-6+ for a coffee. The coffee itself is a bit thin, sour, and acidic as well, and that acidity was really compounded with the citrus and tonic in the Ms. Fizz. The best part of that drink was the cherry, which I was recommended to place in the drink and eat it at the end. They use Minor Figures oat milk, which in my opinion didn't help to round out the coffee's thinness/acidity, because the texture of MF is quite thin compared to, say, Oatly or Planet Oat. FOOD: I got a spinach and cheese empanada, which was kindly warmed up for me. Although it was as big as my hand and quite filling, it was actually pretty bland overall - most of the flavor came from the scant amount of cheese, and it didn't seem like the spinach was seasoned with anything. The dough was also not very empanada-like; it was soft and doughy, not crispy and savory like a good empanada is. I probably wouldn't come back here, sorry! Nook Coffee Bar at The Lab nearby is a much better option for delicious drinks. read more

Got their Palo Santo coffee and hands-down, one of the best coffee I have tried. The drink is no longer on their specialty menu but if you ask for it, they can still make it for you. Great locations, stumbled upon it 2 weeks ago and liked the name. Staff was super friendly ordered 2 Horchata lattes. They gave us them overfillled to the brim. So much so that once the lid was on they were leaking every where then one of the cups randomly cracks and spilled in my car.... then the other starts to fall apart. I think they need to source better cups. That said with the one of two coffees we were able to drink it tasted pretty horrd. As if it were left in a coffe part for 2 weeks then added milk and sweetener. It tasted nothing like a latte nor horchata.
