Absolutely amazing pizza. The service is just as good. I came in not sure what to expect and left finding my new favorite pizza place.

I grew up in edgemont and always hoped for a great restaurant to join the community. There were four of us who went to try out this new spot tonight. We all checked out the menu in advance and anticipated our meal. Unfortunately, we were quite disappointed. We ordered the rigatoni, parpadelle, and ravioli. And two pizzas, the bone marrow and calabria. Firstly, the pasta was not homemade, except the ravioli. All the food lacked in overall flavour and needed salt, and pepper. Pepper was never offered table side either. The pasta itself for the parpadelle was stuck together and the ragu looked like little bits of bologna cut in pieces. The ravioli was far too sweet and almost tasted like dessert, and the lemon flavour had a artificial taste. The pasta also tasted tough like it was overworked. They were all room temperature as well. It didn't seem like any care went into their preparation. For the pizzas: they both had too many toppings and were a bit sloppy, also had little to no flavour. Overall the food we ordered was bland and we all felt disappointed and left hungry. We found the service ok, but the waiter did not really ask how everything was going at all, which surprised all of us as we were expecting that with a new restaurant. We also found it loud inside the restaurant. Overall I would not go back or recommend Bufala. I value homemade pasta spots and am lucky to live right near two of the best in the West end of Vancouver. Nothing seems to be able to compete. read more

We received great service on a Tuesday night at Bufala. It was our first time there. We didn't know what to expect and ended up being blown away by the Calabria. I liked our server too. She gave just the kind of snappy service I like without a lot of hovering or attempts at trying to be my best buddy. The food was tremendous but holy crap was it loud in there. The three things we look for in a restaurant are great food, great service, and a volume that will allow us to have a conversation without screaming at each other. We got out our trusty iPhone decibel meter out and it turns out the volume in there was akin to standing next to a blender or a motorcycle (~90-100 dB). My boyfriend and I are both soft spoken so this is an issue. What exacerbated it was the music which was cranked up high. This establishment was already loud from people yelling across tables at one another and children randomly shrieking. This trend toward noisy restaurants where the sound bounces around off of high open ceilings is one I just don't understand. This sort of thing is what keeps us going back time and time again to our favourite quiet places. I might return to Bufala again for that awesome pizza, but only if is during a lull in service when I can actually hear myself think. read more

first let me start off by saying that the food wasn't bad... although definitely can't be considered authentic italian pizza.. but flavours weren't bad. we have been to this restaurant at least a few times out of convenience that it is a lot closer to us than nicli and via tevere (where we usually get our pizza fix). of those times, we have never experienced such bad attitude and ignorance from the servers. right from the get-go our order taking was being rushed and server was rude, then having a drink literally dropped right in front of us without a word. our meal arrivals were at least 10 minutes apart. we are usually generous tippers but by the end we knew we were going to leave a tip that reflected the service... and we did only to have server rush out of the restaurant thanking us (sarcastically) after she had seen her 5% tip. funny how fast she went to look at her tips when we couldn't even get her attention during the service. that action really left a bad taste in our mouths. we will definitely not be returning and will be telling our friends to not even bother. side note: one of us is italian, moved here recently and the other has lived in italy. there are many reasons why canada is in the ice age of the restaurant industry. servers are too entitled and feel too priviledged. i feel sorry for the kitchen staff that do their job and for the servers who kick asses. but from experience, canada has a long way to go in terms of their restaurant food & service culture. read more

It was ok Pizzeria... first of of i thought it was italian pizza store but i saw a random owen . Test was ok crust really dried. Price does not justified the quality. Too expensive for 12" pizza read more

Great addition to the Kerrisdale food scene. Fresh ingredients, hip vibe, decent value. A keeper!

The burrata appetizer we ordered was absolutely delicious, however the portion was incredibly small for the price. The pizza was good, nothing life changing, but we felt quite nickel-and-dimed as we added meat to half of a vegetarian pizza, yet were charged the full price as if we added it to the whole thing. It certainly didn't look like a full sized pizza portion on the one side. The tiramisu however was one of the better ones I've had. The server also brought us more sparkling water without us asking for it, and we were charged for it despite the fact that we didn't drink it. I would have easily given this place 4 or 5 stars for their food if we didn't leave feeling so overcharged. Also the service to begin with was quite good, but completely dropped off half way through our meal. I will probably give Bufala another shot at some point as I did enjoy the food, and I'm willing to give them another chance to improve their service, but I'll be careful with what I order, as any additions/substitutions are quite a gouge here. read more

Been to Bufala at least 6 times in the last two years, certainly the best atmosphere in Kerrisdale. The pizzas are excellent. But I'm getting bored with the menu. The kale Caesar is tough and kind of bland. They could really add a few more starters and sides. The wine list is thin. Cocktails are expensive and small. Other than that, great place! read more

We started with the burrata and prosciutto. The compressed pear and basil were very good combined with the cheese and meat. The Finocchiona pizza with fennel sausage pieces and olives was delicious. The fluffy, crispy crust was really good dipped with the three choices of flavoured oil. For dessert the special chocolate cake with honey comb, caramel and pear was a nice combination of flavours. The cake was more on the dense side but I liked it. Service was very good and attentive. Plates were changed between courses and water was immediately refilled. read more

The pizza dough is as good as it gets: a perfect texture containing a special blend of organic flour. The only other place that has a pie-like crust that is comparable to the pizza crust of Bufala is Chez le Libanais in Paris, but that was for shawarma. read more

All the other times I've been to Bufala I've been seduced into ordering the daily specials. Because who knew if you'd ever see them again! But last night I finally was able to try the funghi and it didn't disappoint. The Gran Passione Merlot was a perfect accompaniment and the service was very attentive. The only thing is I wish it was a little quieter. read more

I am thrilled that there is a restaurant in our Kerrisdale neighborhood with some atmosphere and gourmet menu items I'm sure that's why this place is often full. I do, however, feel that the prices are a bit high for what you get. There are comparable neopolitan style pizza restaurants (Nook, Nicli) that we like just as much, and their prices seem more reasonable. $6 to add meat onto a $15 cheese pizza seems stiff to me. And $10 for a simple lettuce and goat cheese salad also seems too much to pay. If the prices were a little more reasonable, my hubby and I would definitely be regulars here! read more

I went in to Bufala to order a pizza to take away. The restaurant was completely dead except for one table and the staff was on her phone. I expressed my interest in taking a pizza home and was told that they don't do take away because "if [they] did they would be too busy." I said "...but you aren't busy" and they said "well it's our policy" and effectively showed me the door. I tried Senova a few blocks away and was welcomed with a seat at the bar and a glass of wine while I waited for a beautiful pizza to bring home (two pieces of which I ate in the car, the scent was too irresistible. I will definitely go back to Senova for the warm hospitality and excellent food. I will never go back to Bufala. read more

I was at Bufala for lunch again today and everything was excellent! The kale Caesar salad and the burrata with pickled vegetables- sooo good. And absolutely perfect pies. But what really tops it off is that Bufala really nails desserts. Lots of restaurants have super decadent desserts that are crazy sweet, but if they try more subtle desserts, to me they are very often misses. Bufala is really, really good at finding the balance between giving you a little sweet hit at the end of a meal without going overboard and making your teeth hurt from all the sugar. I have had all four desserts that they offer right now and I find them all really on the mark! Well done! read more

It would have been nice to have had a chance to try the food however we didn't even get to make it to our table. We received a very rude snobby and cold reception as we waited patiently for a long time for a table to be cleared for us, in stages may I add, even though there was plenty of opportunity to do so in a faster more professional manner. We eventually got fed up with condescending attitude of the management and staff that we just left. The management could care less. I must say I was left confused on the lack of interest in their customers. read more

I've had many bad Neapolitan pizza experiences. Crusts so burnt you feel like you're licking the bottom of an ashtray, tomato sauce that tastes like stomach acid, toppings that could stand to be much fresher, pizzas topped with unappealing pools of oil. I've spent too many evenings on the cold bathroom floor hunched over the toilet because my stomach rejected a poorly executed Neapolitan pizza. As a result, I'm always a bit apprehensive now about getting it. When it's good, it's good, but when it's bad? Atrocious. I walked by this restaurant one day, and looked it up on google, where I saw that it had received many acclaims. The pictures online tempted me, so I made a mental note to go check it out. Finally, on a Wednesday evening, I made it to Bufala. It was around 5:30, before the dinner rush, and I was seated immediately, and offered the choice of still or sparkling water (sparkling). I was very impressed with the service. The staff are warm and unpretentious and speak to you as if you're a good friend. I felt very welcome in the restaurant. I ultimately ordered a Quattro Formaggi pizza. My food was delivered in about 15 minutes, which is perfectly reasonable. This pizza was so delicious. The crust was perfectly cooked, it had a nice crunch and chew to it, and it had enough body to not become too droopy when held. I think the sauce was the highlight of the pizza. It was not oily at all, which is a big plus in my book. It tasted fresh, with a mild sweetness and acidity, and then a light kick, which melded perfectly with the cheese. I liked the pockets of fresh ricotta topped with black pepper and the perfectly melted mozzarella. If I have one minor gripe with the pizza, it's that I didn't notice the two other cheeses, but the pizza as a whole was so delicious that it wasn't much of a dealbreaker to me. The prices are a bit on the high side, but given the quality of the food I'd just eaten, I didn't mind. When I left, I actually said to myself, "wow, that was delicious." Bufala may have converted me to actually liking Neapolitan pizza, at least their rendition of it. I definitely plan on returning, and bringing more people so hopefully they can have the experience I did. read more
