What a disappointment. We made a special trip from far south Austin to go to Bufalina today at 2:30. Their website says they are open on Saturday and Sunday from 11 am until 11 pm. Their door says the same thing. But no. The employees who were there at 2:30 told us they were "closed for lunch." We guess they meant their lunch. They told us to come back at 4 if we wanted to eat. I would have given a neutral 3 star rating, but the rudeness and arrogance of the staff was astonishing. When we said, "Your website says you're open from 11 to 11 today," we were told they'd put a note on their instagram this morning. So now we have to check their instagram before trying to go? No thank you. Good food, but rudeness overrode that. Won't be back anytime soon. read more

What a great little place to eat. The atmosphere is very friendly. Almost seems as though you went to a friends house for dinner. A little noisy because so many people were there. You might want to get there early cause the place does get pretty busy. We went at about 6 to beat the dinner rush and got seated right away. However by 7 the place was crowded. Now about the food. We had an appetizer of nuts and olives. Just a simple starter. Then we had a Caprese pizza. Great sauce and excellent salami. The mozzarella was perfect and the kicker was a few slices of Serrano peppers. The peppers added a great kick. This place is definitely worth the trip if you are ever in Austin. Such a good authentic Italian restaurant we were so lucky to find in our 2 days in Austin! The food was amazing. I'm a Cesar salad lover and there cesar salad is definitely in my top 5 with the homemade dressing! We sat in the bar and the bartender recommended the best bottle of wine that would be paired with the food we ordered. We shared there clam and Calabrese pizzas. We ordered the chocolate mousse, topped with fresh whip cream with olive oil drizzled on it The staff was all so nice, they gave us a ricotta cheesecake on the house because they knew we needed to try it! This cheesecake was so special with the balsamic drizzle. Definitely recommend Bufalina, it was one of our favorite spots in Austin! read more

One of the best places in town and not to be missed. The wine list is unmatched and happy hour takes bottles under $100 to half price. Everyone is a Sommelier here, or at least everyone that serves us are--my wife is a CMS Certified Somm / WSET diploma but works on the supply side, and knows a little having also worked in distribution. This is where you come in Austin for great wines--and the selection of natural wines is unmatched. Notwithstanding, the Neopolitan pizzas are also amazing--but don't confine yourself to those as the menu always has some great and unique small bites not to be missed. Truffle week is always a must. Lynn and Rania were fabulous as always--service is unmatched...the food is unmatched...the wine is unmatched...and the vibe is all Austin (no chain feeling here, even though they opened a different place up North called Bufalina Due). It's a super cute date night spot! HOWEVER, the wait is actually very long. We ended up getting here around 7PM on a Friday and finally got seated at 9:20PM. So while the food was really good, the wait did make it a bit unappealing. We tried the pane rustico, pappardelle so funghi trifoliate, margherita pizza, and the icecream with cherry. Personally the pappardelle and the pizza were our favorites! I definitely urge you to check them out. I feel like this place has lost its luster. We did go during SXSW (so trying to have some grace) but they were not super busy. They told us it would be 30-45 minutes when we arrived but we ended up waiting about 20. Once we sat down we were hungry so ordered almost immediately. Our salad came out minutes later. Their Caesar is good and a great portion. We ordered the tuna tartare appetizer and it was small for its price. The pesto pasta was a laughably small portion to the point where I thought the other plate in the waiters hand was our one portion split in half. Nope, we paid $16 for like 8 noodles. Then we waited. And waited and waited for our pizza. Over an hour while our waitress was suddenly avoiding us. She then comes up to us and remarks that our pizzas will be right out and to apologize for the delay. I see her go over to the guy at the pizza oven and point back to our table and eh shakes his head. I guess they had some turnover in kitchen shifts and our order fell thru the cracks. The pizza came out and was good, not great. I just kept thinking about Show me Pizza and their pillowy dough and delicious toppings. They sent out a desert to apologize for the delay and we attempted to get the bill for another 20 minutes and left. Yesterday was my first time going to Bufalina and honestly, our server ruined our experience. My friends and I were SHOCKED at how we were treated. We get a table and are told we have to leave by 6pm because they had an outstanding reservation, which is fine and we were all okay with that. We all showed up at 4:30 and agreed that we would be out by 6pm. I have never experienced being treated by a server the way this server treated us. With the worst mood, was extremely rude to a friend who showed up later and only ordered a beer- she wasn't even going to eat. My friends and I were on edge the entire time because she kept coming to our table and cleaning up as soon as we would put something down and reminding us we had to leave even after we all assured her we would. By the 6th time she came and reminded us we just ignored her, I mean it was ridiculous. When we were finished, she dropped the check off and said nothing. My friends and I were scared to even ask to split the check! Even as we were leaving she came BACK to remind us to leave, while we were getting up. Usually, this type of behavior is understandable for a group who is rowdy or don't look like they're leaving when they had to, but we were so respectful and ate so fast to be out of there. We really didn't deserve that treatment and we all agreed that it ruined the experience. Do better Bufalina. This isn't the atmosphere and experience you want your staff creating. Food was amazing but we weren't even really able to enjoy it. read more

My girlfriend and I are from different parts of the east coast and often complain about the quality of pizza in Austin compared to that region of the country. But we tried Bufalina a couple weeks ago and both agreed it's the best pizza we've both had since moving here. You might have to wait a little, but it's definitely worth it. (It feels comfy to see the wood burning oven from the entry and tables) First come first serve, it was busy, so we waited an hour for a table. ( I will say, they let people enjoy their drinks, food and conversation, which is refreshing! So, be prepared if you're on a waiting list and have a show to hear.) It was loud, awkward and cramped while standing inside because the bar is full meal service as well as the tables and it was too hot for us to enjoy wine outside.
