It's true, I was eating huckleberry-buckwheat pancakes at the Buff at five years old- before pandering off to ski school on the bunny slope. The Buffalo cafe has been around longer than any other breakfast joint downtown for a reason. It is a must before hitting the hill, going to your construction job or a day of hiking. I have yet to try the dinner service. Maybe next time? Until then- Nicole's French Toast, Vicky's Huevos or Buffalo Pie are old family faves. The purple dressing on their warm vegetable salad remains a delicious mystery and don't forget the stiff french-press of Montana Coffee Traders. read more

Should be 4.5 stars. Great beer choices to go along with their fare. Montana burger is great, Fish & Chips also. Beer battered fries? Seriously.... Niiiiiice. Fast service at our lunchtime, food got out quick and very tasty. Definitely will be back when we return to Whitefish. read more

Great breakfast. I had a breakfast "pie". Poached eggs on top of smoked ham on top of smoked cheddar on top of hash browns. My better half enjoyed her steel cut oatmeal, and she approved of their coffee, an honor that isn't bestowed lightly. read more

What a great breakfast menu. I had a combo that was different called a buffalo pie. It had a slice of ham covered with hash browns with poached eggs. I think I missed an ingredient but it was piled high and tasted fantastic. Michelle was an attentive server bring water and refilling the coffee cups on queue without asking. The Buffalo Café was recommended to us when we picked our rental car up at the train station. I am so glad I asked about a good place to have breakfast. The service was excellent, the coffee and breakfast delicious. Everyone was friendly, a great introduction to a town we had never visited before. Excellent! Breakfast was fresh, hot and good tasting. I had the veggie egg scramble and it was very good. Five other people with us loved there meals also. Service was great and they were busy. Dinner was also very good. I had the Ocean Beach Shrimp Tacos and they were outstanding. The flavor was perfect. The Thai Chili, pineapple salsa and srirachi aioli was a great combination. Words cannot express how satisfied I was after ordering the ham shoulder with French toast for breakfast!!!! They have a local bakery supply them with cinnamon bread that they slice and make into French toast, which, when it comes out is a 'texas toast thick' slice that is coming apart with a twist of cinnamon as if they rolled up a cinnamon roll and put it into a bread pan. Then their slices of ham shoulder which is more like awesomely thick bacon is accompanying French toast. Service was friendly, too, which was great. I look forward to a trip to the slopes and breakfast here again!! read more

A Whitefish landmark. We have been coming here since I was a tyke, in 1991, and "the buff" has maintained its great food, great service, and a friendly atmosphere ever since. The Buffalo used to be only a breakfast and lunch place, but they opened for dinner within the past five years. For dinner, I often get the beef stroganoff, which is delightful. The mac and cheese is also a friend of my taste buds. While I am no salad buff, other members of my family get the steak salad, which I am told "is the bomb" The Buff has great dressing, including ranch, despite what other reviews say. The green enchiladas are also delicious. For dessert the other night we got a brownie a la mode, with candied pecans -- delish. But breakfast is the best. Omelettes, breakfast "pies," biscuits and gravy, pancakes: the works. Also, the buff has a south-western breakfast selection - for instance Dow's huevos, huevo's rancheros, etc. (If you're in the know, Jessie's huevos is an off-menu item that is also "the bomb." The Buffalo is my favorite breakfast place, and we make it here at least once during our visits to Whitefish. Great memories here. Lunch is also good, and the Buff has the best milkshakes. The service is great also. The same folks work there for a long time, and the atmosphere is very friendly. Adam, on the evening shift, is a great guy. This is a place for American food - no gluten-free, vegan fare. (Negative reviews because of some silly expectation that every restaurant must accommodate every diet are absurd. I don't got to a Vietnamese restaurant and write a poor review because they have no cheeseburgers - duh.) read more

Found this place by driving aimlessly around Whitefish this morning and following the locals, literally. It was a weekday but place was still busy with local clientele, apparently on weekends it's packed. Very reasonably priced, very friendly service, great food. One of the most popular breakfast joints in town and deservedly so, but try it for dinner. Best burgers in whitefish- large, topped creatively, and cooked right every time. Drives me nuts to pay for a burger and have to eat an over cooked, flavorless, dry patty- 5 yrs of eating here and don't recall ever being disappointed. Their Mexican plates are ok, fish & chips very good, steak a little disappointing the one time I had it. Good selection of montana beers on tap too. Not a mushroom fan myself, but my wife & everyone else races about their Hungarian mushroom soup. read more

Very good. There were three of us and every meal was great! The food was excellent for all three of us. There was more than we could eat so got a doggy bag. Just as good the next day. We had a very delightful server who was very helpful with everything we asked about. The Buffalo was recommended by three of the local store owners and they were all on the spot with their recommendation. Overall rating "better than average", my biggest complaint with the food was the coffee! I really don't care if it's "Fair Trade" or not, what I want is a robust cup of coffee Seems that who ever picks the coffee grew up during the war when there wasn't enough to go around so they just watered it down to make it stretch. Most folks from that era have a heart attack if you make the coffee per the instructions on the can of Folger's. The coffee at the Buffalo is like "weak tea" to steal a quote from Leo Tolstoy's grand daughter who went to college in Chicago and during an interview when asked what she missed most she said "a real cup of coffeee, Americans seem to like coffee that taste like weak tea"! Enough Said! My breakfast was cooked to a 9.5 on a scale of 10! The hashbrowns are really grilled (no deep fryer here) and they made them extra crisp along with the much leaner Kansas City Bacon, the wheat breat was hearty and it tasted great and the eggs were near perfect. The table service was good, initially I walked in alone and they wanted to sit me at the counter when it was after the morning rush and have of the tables were empty, then they inofrmed me that there was no wireless but we sonn established that they had it but just didn't want to share it over "security concerns" which as the owner of a medical clinic who has free wireless is just plain "Buffalo"! So my final grade is a "better than average" and worth a visit and they do contribute through their coffee to a free clinic called the Shepherd's Hand, my suggestion anti up for some decent coffee and leave a donation container on each table as I would have put in a buck! read more
