We had dinner last night at Bungalow 44 and my wife and I both ordered the Filet Mignon. It was the best filet we've ever had! We've eaten there many times but never ordered the filet because, frankly, its not known as a "steak place". We were blown away with how good it was. It literally melted in your mouth! Food, drink & service all amazing. But the patios plants are all DEAD. They need to spend some $$ to bring the greenery back. If you can't keep real plants alive, invest in fake? Either way it takes away from the ambiance, the dead plants need to go. read more

I placed a to-go order on a recommendation. The website was easy and the food was ready on time. Generally, a good sign... but unfortunately the food itself was pretty mediocre. Fried chicken: Two major issues here -- one was that the chicken itself was under-seasoned and flavorless. The skin itself had some seasoning on it and was nicely crispy but wasn't especially flavorful, just a bit salty. The meat itself was bland and -- here's issue #2 -- extremely dry. Maybe it's overcooked, maybe they don't brine it or buttermilk dip it or whatever others do to make their meat juicy, but it's just dry. Such a disappointment. Biscuits: Okay, so they're the crumbly kind not the flaky kind. I can get over that most likely... but they were extremely salty. After wildly under-seasoned chicken, you've got over-salted biscuits. And I'm not talking the butter, I tried one plain just to be sure. Beignets: They come with two sauces (vanilla and chocolate?) and one could dip styrofoam balls into them and basically have the same taste. Again, high hopes, such disappointment. read more

Disclaimer for the picture: I tried a couple of pieces of the flatbread before taking this photo. A full portion would be two more pieces than this. However, it should be noted that the broken piece on the left -- that looks like it was bitten -- was served to me. Notes: We ordered quite a few appetizers prior to our entrees, including hamachi, avocado salad, cauliflower and steak tartare. With the exception of the tartare, every app I tried was pretty bland and oily. The cauliflower was laden with oil, which was an interesting choice. I ordered the flatbread, which tasted strongly of pungent Crème fraîche. Additionally, the crust was extremely thin and it was plated as a stack of pre-cut pieces, rather than laid out in a board or tray. I suppose this is intended to be an app/shareable? This was more akin to crackers than flatbread. A couple of the people with me got the burger, which actually looked pretty good. read more

Beware of dining alone. I came at 5:30 and was told I had to either sit at a high top out by the entrance or a low table, like a cocktail table, at the exit. There were other two tops empty. Perhaps there were reservations but when I left at 6:15 four or five were still empty. read more

We celebrated our daughter and son in law's wedding reception dinner in their Fireside room. The communication with Andres for pre planning was great, the staff was on top of everything from the appetizers to the wine and mixed drinks. Everyone said the food was amazing. Pretty good American food, prepared with some care, but we just don't find it a very good value for the price, and the menu just isn't very interesting. Also, they clearly are having staffing issues. The waiter, or team of waiters wasn't easy to keep contact with, and our food was just not coming out in a reasonable time. And as a former better-dining establishment bus-boy from my late teen years, I recognized it wasn't the fault of the wait-people. They were just covering too many tables. That said, the fried chicken was quite good, but we're not planning a quick repeat visit due to the price of the food and the staffing issues. read more

Absolutely love their fried chicken. It's available both to go and in-dining. The fried chicken bucket to go (family style) is well worth the price. One note: I feel like they should invest in some romaine lettuce. They have salads but romaine lettuce (think Ceaser salad or any other green salad)-too difficult to get here. read more

Fried chicken & mashed potatoes - delicious. Steaks - mouthwatering. Cocktails - amazing. The hamachi appetizer with avocado, crispy rice cake, ponzu, & fresno chilies - perfection. Service - friendly and efficient. Ambiance - awesome. Love the outdoor seating now, too. Hope it sticks around! 5 star service and the food was amazing!!! We arrived around 6:45 and we're greeted by our server Zach, He was very welcoming and made our experience perfect he went into detail on the food dishes we were thinking about and made sure we had no dietary restrictions or allergies. My husband ended up choosing the salmon and myself the short rib. Both dishes were full of flavor and perfectly portioned, we also ordered the blue crush and the well Rested my tequila drink was a bit sweet but enjoyable and my husband drank his drink as it arrived and quickly ordered another. The restaurant had a very nice vibe not to loud not to quiet and the music choice was nice. we will definitely be returning for that dessert menu. I actually ordered from Bungalow 44 for the first time on New Years Eve. I did not want to cook and I wanted good food so I originally checked out Buckeye's but they were sold out. On their website it said to try ordering from their sister restaurant Bungalow 44 so I did. I got the bucket of fried chicken, buttermilk biscuits, mashed potatoes, grilled broccolini and for dessert the beignets. Wow! What a nice surprise! The food was excellent even if it was take out. Good flavor and the chicken had a crispness even after sitting in the bucket for 30 min. before we could eat it. The beignets came with a chocolate sauce and a creme anglaise and was a sweet success. I was impressed with their pick up process as well. They seemed very well organized. I can't wait for the restaurant to open back up so I can eat there. read more

Good food and nice atmosphere, but consistently terrible service. Host and servers are all rude, slow and seem to hate their jobs. We have been several times and not once has the service been even marginally good. If not for the food and lack of other options in Mill Valley we would never go back. I've been wanting to try this restaurant for years. Finally did and the service was terrible, even accounting for staffing shortages post COVID, and the food was mediocre. First, the service: Our server was personable enough, and while he was fast to take orders for wine (tip!), he continuously had to be asked to refill the water jugs on the table. And then would "forget" and we would have to ask someone else or try to flag him down. Seriously, you aren't even having to pour the water, and you can't manage to keep the carafs on the table full? He also didn't refill wine glasses from the bottle we ordered. It was frustrating to see him over near the front door talking to 4 other servers (and one time it appeared a manager or owner joined in talking to the staff) while we had food we wanted to order and beverages to re-order (cocktails etc). After the food was delivered (wrong, by the way, we had to swap them around), he stopped by the table for about 10 seconds "everything ok?" and left before my friend could even order another glass of wine. Guess where he went? Back to talk to his friends. In the era of COVID restaurants are short-staffed and it's challenging to find good servers. Having said that, I would rather stay home that go somewhere were the lack of service becomes the topic of the meal with friends. The food: better than the service, but mediocre. The filet mignon was a super cheap cut, full of gristle and tough. The caesar was fine but overwhelmed with breadcrumbs instead of the traditional croutons. For starter, I had the "Burrata with Heirloom Tomato on Pesto," which was really good! Then for my entreé, I had the "Kickin' Fried Chicken," which was served with a cheese biscuit, mashed potatoes and kale salad. The fried chicken was quite delicious! The biscuit was not warm, the mashed potatoes were okay but the kale salad was bland. For dessert, I had the "Chocolate Mousse." That was delightful! This restaurant is going downhill. I had a simple steak which was overcooked and burnt. The waitress came by twice, once when the bill was ready, possibly because they were understaffed. Delicious restaurant in downtown Mill Vally! A bit on the fancier side, so was perfect for a special occasion date with my husband. Very well designed inside, hip decor, and dim lighting. They had a full bar and a delicious sounding cocktail menu. They also have a huge outdoor seating area covered by a large transparent tent- not sure if it's temporary for Covid or not, but it's pretty big so I think it might be permanent. We like this place. Every app and entree we had was superb - Hamachi Poppers, Gazpacho, Sole, Burger. Several notches above typical gastropub fare in a great atmosphere. Only drawback was slow service - but not a dealbreaker. Oh and try one of the cocktails - I recommend 'the other side of the pillow'. read more

A couple of the best cocktails ever and two of my favorite appetizers at this lovely spot in Mill Valley. The front is happenin', so I reserved the corner table by the fireplace for a quieter scene. Great seasonal menu in a cozy atmosphere! We enjoyed the summer melons and smoked salmon dip to start, then moved on to the smoked pork shoulder and kickin' fried chicken. The new remodel looks great and our server was very attentive. Deducting one star because the main dining area is very loud, and two of our glasses (one water and one wine glass) were dirty, but everything else was great! I have been interested in checking this place out for years since I lived in Mill Valley for one year in 2012, so I finally had a chance to go with a good friend. The ambiance is 5 stars. I enjoyed the looks, and the table was far enough from other tables that our conversation was kept private, and I did not have to hear what others were talking about in nearby tables. Service was prompt and friendly, which is what you want. We shared the Octopus appetizer, and it was quite good. I would recommend it. My entree was the chicken paillard. It was meh, nothing great, but I guess a grilled breast of chicken is not THAT exciting to begin with. We shared some chocolate dessert. That upset my stomach. Not blaming the restaurant, it just is what it is. I think it is a fine place to go to if you live in Mill Valley and want to go to a nice restaurant. But for me coming from the city, I won't go back. read more

we just came back from the city and my friend was hungry for good food, it has been a while since I've been back here, first thing I noticed was front parking lot was not there; now a cozy outdoor dining spot. Put together quite well, great spacing and fresh air. Service was good, I didn't hear one word uttered about lack of staff. Wine and cocktails perfect. She had fried chicken and I the steak frites not the standard fare of California cuisine but just genuine good cooking. Started with the watermelon salad and ended with the chocolate mousse.
