Fried chicken lovers unite! Some of the best fried chicken i've ever had including at Addendum. It has a little tabasco kick which is nice. Well seasoned, light crust, piping hot, juicy and very flavorful. It's worth the trip just for the chicken. We also had a very good steak tartare app, the warm brussel salad was also very good. If you can get a seat in the main building it's much nicer than sitting in their impromptu covered patio. It's nice, but nothing too special, while inside is much more cozy. read more

Been craving fried chicken for several months now, it's amazing how hard it is to find a good consistent place to get fried chicken. Decided to pull the trigger on Bungalow 44 curbside pickup and was pleasantly surprised. I felt like it was everything a fried chicken should be, everyone gave it a thumbs up. I have been a regular (almost on a daily basis) about seven years ago. Back then, the food was good (so it was at Picco) and the restaurant was usually filled up with guests. We moved North and have not been there since. My Wife thought it was a good idea to revisit Mill Valleys restaurants. So we went. The day prior to our B 44 experience we visited D'Angelos (the other place to go 7 years ago) and where positively impressed. Renovated and the food was 5 stars. The Burrata was so good I wanted another one. The pasta cooked to perfection. I could go on and will in a D'Angelo review. So we thought, give B44 a try next day. Sure, they "renovated" the place. But not much of a difference. The food, basically... was a disaster. The fries that came with my sons burger, straight from McDonalds, seriously! I have to write an apologetic letter to the Cow who gave its life for that dry, crumbly partially burned patty. The Burrata starter was, meh. The Octopus was a sad state of affairs. My Wife LOVES Octopus, this she had one bite of. My Pork shoulder was a mix between powdery dry bits and string cheese (Another letter due to the pork). Oh, and if one orders a Chopin Vodka Martini, up with a twist and a splash of Cranberry, that one may know the taste of Chopin Vodka. What I got, I can not tell. What I can tell is that I had one, and experienced Methanol Alcohol poisoning. You fell very drunk but are not and have vision problems (color issues and eyeballs bouncing around), coordination is lacking and you spend the night on the toilet seat. So, $200.- to eat roadkill with McDonalds fries and turning almost blind... not worth it! But then, maybe I have higher standards. Going to take the Family to D'Angelos again tonight. P.s.: The only highlight was the fresh Oysters. We ordered another docent. But then, how can one screw up fresh Oysters. read more

I moved to Mill Valley 6 months ago and I don't know what took me so long to get to Bungalow 44, but I will be going back often!! The oyster Happy Hour was a huge hit, we ordered 2 rounds. One of your best spots to enjoy a well made yet casual dinner with friends, family or loved one after a wonderful day in Marin. The food is always great and the service is even better. I've visited B44 twice a year for four years now and even time I return our waitress always remember us and we always end up having a good time. There is a lot of choose form on the menu, but the best fun you can have is to just order from the Appetizers all evening with a bottle of wine. I know they are known for their fried chicken, but I can't make it that far with so many great small dishes to chose from. I think by now I've tasted their entire "To Share" menu and love all of it. The renovation and new menu have improved this restaurant so much! I had a great meal and sat in the back room with the fireplace and really enjoyed it. UNTIL it got so loud that we could not even hear one another, which was a real disappointment to what started out as a fabulous restaurant experience in every other way. We would not go back unless we booked a table RIGHT when they open so that we were done before 6:30pm. They should do something about the noise - put carpeting in or wall hangings or something to absorb sound on the ceilings. It's fixable. Super dry overcooked bland fried chicken , dry biscuit & terrible service . After sitting for a very long time never asking how things were or if I needed anything , I was asked if I was all done ? My reply was I guess since the chicken was very dry ! He laughed, took the plate then took forever to bring the bill without asking to make it right . I really like this place. The food is excellent and the staff are very welcoming. Their ribeye steak is for me the best restaurant-prepared steak I have so far enjoyed in the Bay Area. The rest of menu is delightful but they do proud justice to ribeye steak. Unless they came through on their threat to include this wonderful cut of meat on their menu, you will have to ring ahead to determine on which night they will offer this steak as it is a 'special'; not a mainstay as it should be. By the by, I would be extremely grateful were any Yelper to suggest a non-chain steak restaurant they believe does justice to well prepared and plated steak. read more

We had a wonderful holiday family dinner here, in the fireplace room perfectly decked out. As the one occasion where grown grandchildren were visiting from the East Coast, we wanted this holiday dinner to be special...and it was! Pluses: - the very best fried chicken I have ever had, with an incredibly thin, crisp skin, juicy on inside, with some spicy hotness - all the entrees and appetizers we got were top drawer, from oysters, artichoke fritters, brussels sprout salad with hot bacon croutons, cream of mushroom soup special, roasted beet salad, goat cheese ravioli, papardelle with pork - outstanding pecan caramel cake dessert, light and only slightly greasy beignets with chocolate and spiked creme anglaise dipping sauces - very solicitous service, food came fast, water refilled frequently - bread came to the table hot and just baked...fantastic! - we were seated in our party of eight in the fireplace room, very snug and intimate Minuses: - the main room by the bar was packed and noisy, and even the fireplace room a bit noisy We will return for sure, hopefully when not so crowded. read more

Neighborhood hot spot with a happening happy hour. When we booked our reservation, we didn't realize this was a happening happy hour spot. It filled up fast. This is a place to go if you like noise and a crowd. I think I may have liked it more when I was in my 20s and drank dinner. It was definitely a neighborhood hot spot. I have been coming to Bungalow 44 for years! I was there Friday night to celebrate a new job and it was wonderful. We started with Champagne and moved on to the Angry Mojito which is a very good cocktail. We had the roasted cauliflower to start, followed by the Chop 44, Kicken Fried Chicken, and Chicken Paillard. Stumbled upon this place last night. We recently moved to the area so decided to pop in somewhere for dinner. Without a reservation we were lucky to get a spot at the bar. Service was awesome, friendly and accommodating. Food was delicious!! We got the hamachi app, omg! Shishito peppers, yummy! Shrimp and grits and cheese burger with truffle fries, SO good!! In-person, this place is OK, but to go, it's not worth the money. Paid close to $150 for a Christmas eve dinner just to have overcooked and dry fried chicken, crumbly and biscuits, and mediocre short ribs. Service: My wife and I arrived 30 min early for our reservations on a busy Saturday night, and the hostess was happy to accommodate us immediately. The server was prompt in receiving drink orders and bringing them out quickly, impressive considering that the restaurant appeared to be at near full capacity. The service remained excellent all night, keeping our glasses full and the server remaining available for questions. Drinks: Whiskey maple cocktail with walnut bitters was excellent and my wife enjoyed her spicy margarita. The cocktails are carefully crafted, emphasizing quality and tastefulness. Food: Hit or miss. Beef tartare was excellent, the sun choke fritters were underwhelming. The short rib was very good. If you stick to the servers recommendations you'll have a great time here. read more

Super disappointed in this place. My wife grew up in Mill Valley. We were back on vacation to see her family and close friends - we went to Bungalow 44 for our first dinner out in over a year (since quarantine started) with her best friend from growing up - also their first dinner out in over a year. We were ready to celebrate being alive and unscathed and being with old friends. We ordered pre-dinner cocktails, bottles of sparkling water, appetizers, mains (including 2 of the most expensive steaks), sides, a $100 bottle of wine, tea and 2 glasses of whiskey after dinner - basically every up-sell the restaurant could hope for except dessert. The food was really good. No complaints there. The bill (with tip) came out to over $600 for the 4 of us. We were in a celebratory mood, so that didn't phase us. What DID phase us - as we were sitting finishing our after dinner drinks (and, yes, we were the last table there) - the bus boys started repeatedly and obnoxiously flashing the lights of the outdoor seating area to tell us to get out. it was 9:10 at night. On a Sunday - the restaurant's posted hours on this site are 5:00 PM - 9:30 PM. So 20 minutes before close they start aggressively flashing the lights to tell us to leave. I asked the busboy to stop, but he said the manager told him to do it. So we leave - but first I want a word with the manager. I tell her that we had just enjoyed a very expensive meal at the restaurant, but that I really didn't appreciate them flashing the lights to kick us out before we were done with our meal. Again - this was 9:10 at night - not 11. Not midnight. She couldn't have given less of a shit. She mumbled an excuse about not knowing that we still had drinks, and something about the city wanting to cut down on noise- the thing is she could have actually come over to the table to check on us, to tell us that we were welcome to finish our drinks but to please keep it down (not that we were being that loud anyway)... but, no. She didn't. I worked in fine dining for a long time in my youth - and none of the excellent restaurants I worked for would have *ever* have done that to customers. Anyway - Bungalow 44 will never get another cent from us. Our friends who were dining with us who live in Marin won't be going back- nor will my wife's family. I know Mill Valley is infested with wealthy Silicon Valley douchebags who wipe their asses with $600 - so the asshole manager couldn't give a shit about losing our business - but it was a really nice night up to that point - and it was lot of money to us - and they managed to ruin it right at the end. We left feeling horrible. Shame on them. Don't go here - I'm sure there are other restaurants nearby that will take much better care of you and appreciate you more. read more

The staff was very pleasant and accommodating. The plates are small but everything is packed with flavor. You do not leave there feeling hungry. My wife had the Hamachi Tartar as a starter and the Creole Prawns with polenta cake. She lick her player clean. I started with the Little Gems salad, and then had the Wood fire Duck breast. Skin was crispy and was served medium with just the middle pink. Was incredible. Of course then there was dessert. Tim and John Sunday, and Butterscotch Pudding. Was amazing. We live about a 7 minute drive from this spot. We just moved to the area a year ago so have been experiencing going out only in COVID time. This spot has a beautiful outdoor dining area with a great vibe. The inside vibe is good too but we prefer outdoor. Even when it is chilly, there are enough heat lamps to keep you plenty warm. The food is good to very good to even excellent. The service can be a little slow. I am sure they are suffering the shortages that are challenging all service industries. We have found the servers to all be very good, just a little slow (which doesn't bother us). The steak tartare is amazing (served with a tiny grilled cheese sandwich). The hamachi is lovely. Tuna appetizer is great. Broccolini and charred carrots both really tasty. The chicken paillard is also a winner although the salad it is served with is very rich. Mill Valley has a lot of great spots and this is one of the best. They even have $1 oysters before 6 on week days. Highly recommend getting a reservation as the place gets very busy. Bungalow 44 is a great option if you're looking for good "American" food. Surprisingly that's kind of hard to find in Marin. Coming from the Midwest most of the good restaurants were American food. It's great for when family comes to visit and want something something familiar and tasty. I like the friend chicken and the risotto. We've passed by this place a bazillion times when on our way to other restaurants in the area. Why it took so long for us to walk through the doors is beyond me! Amazing oysters, perfect skirt steak with those crispy, salty, fatty lil fries, YUM. Even their bread was delicious! Granted we were *hangry* but everything was so good. Food and Service was so good for our Friday date night, that we had to come back and try the brunch. Luckily it hasn't picked up yet as a hot spot for Sunday mornings....yet.
