Came here with my wife just to be disappointed. We ordered salt and pepper pork chop and there was no salt or pepper on it, but the pork chop was tendered. The French beef was decent and was our favorite dish of the night and even then it was 3/5 at best. The flavor was lacking and it seems like it was lightly seasoned. Looks like the same plate they took in and maybe just washed it and recook. The dish are small and the price are slightly at the high side. Came back after many years to pick up my one go-to dish at Kim Tar, the "House Special" Squid. Sadly they must have changed the chef and the recipe after the remodel. The deceptively large squid pieces are way over battered and over sweet, so much so that I could not taste the fresh squid inside. Came here on a Friday for lunch. We arrive around noonish. Plenty of parking in the little shopping center that the restaurant is located. We were greeted right as we entered and given menus. There were already a couple of tables already enjoying their meals. Plates, napkins, utensils came right after. Even brought plastic fork and spoon for my 7 year old. We received tea after that. We ordered white rice for 2 people (it was enough for a total of 4 people cuz we had left overs for dinner and lunch the next morning). We also got a 2.4 lb lobster cooked in butter sauce on a bed of noodles (noodles were extra charge). We ordered the walnut shrimp, kung pao chicken, and Mongolian beef. Plates came out relatively close to one a other, which made it nice. I like to have everything in front of me when I eat so I can get a bit of this and a bit of that. The lobster and noodles came out last. Everything was delicious. We loved the lobster and noodles best. So much flavor and the noodles underneath the lobster just soaked up all the buttery, salty, kick of spice flavor. As we dined, many groups came in and the restaurant was bustling. Came in for dinner on the 4th of July with my girlfriend, her son, and her sister. Started at the temple city location but they were out of live spot prawns so we pivoted to the Monterey park restaurant. Ordered several entrées, mostly sea food. Everything was cooked fresh and tasted great. My girlfriend specifically wanted me and her son to have the live spot prawns so she ordered 2 pounds for the table. They were good sized and we watched them being netted out of the tank. It doesn't get any fresher than that. Service wasn't fantastic, we had to wave down a server every time we needed something, like ordering drinks, our food, to go containers, and our check. That being said we certainly weren't bothered by a wait staff that constantly hovered making us feel rushed so while they could have been more attentive, it was still better than being overbearing. The restaurant is loud, no acoustic ceiling, walls are all either glass or mirrors and the flooring is hard, not carpet. Not unusual for a Chinese restaurant, but something to be aware of. I was a little surprised that there was a table with a Hispanic family dining there while we were eating. Normally I am the only non Asian at more traditional Asian restaurants. I came here for lunch after I went to two previous restaurants that were remodeling. The ambiance was quiet as there were not many people as we were here near 2:00. They had a lunch special until 3:00 and the options were very good for $13.91 each plate. The food was very high quality and tasted really good. I love how they had many different condiment options including soy sauce, chili oil, vinegar, and jalapeños in vinegar. We had to order quite a lot of dishes to fill up as the dishes were a little smaller but the taste totally made up for it! The service was also amazing! For food, my wife's little sister ordered the chicken and chow mein. I had the French steak, and I ordered the walnut shrimp for my wife. OMG... the walnut shrimp was hands down the BEST I've ever had--period. Yeah, I said it! If you come here, it's a must-order. The French steak was also amazing and definitely worth getting. I really enjoyed the chow mein and fried rice too. Speaking of fried rice they let me do half shrimp half beef!! FIRE this the first place that did that for me! The only dish that disappointed me was the salt and pepper fried chicken. It was a little too salty, dry, and seemed overcooked. Hopefully it was just an off night because I'd definitely be willing to give it another try. Overall, we left really satisfied with both the food and the customer service. Everything we tried were just perfectly delectable. My friends and I came from a volunteer event and came here for late lunch -- we were surprised the place was still packed. All 10 of us were hungry and the staff were phenomenal- they got us the food quite quick! Love this place for my big family of 16 to 20 people. My family loves coming here for special occasions such as birthdays and holidays. We're a huge party that takes up 2 large tables. These are some of our favorite dishes: Basil clams: fresh clams and fresh fragrant basil make this my mother in laws favorite. Deep fried tofu: such a comforting dish. Crunchy on the outside, silky tofu on the inside, plus a delicious dipping sauce. This is my favorite. Salt and pepper pork: savory and crunchy pork with tons of flavor. My nephews love this and we need to order multiple each time. Steamed chicken: simple but well made. The chicken is tender and incredibly juicy. My husband orders this each time. Fried calamari: crunchy yet very tender squid. The seasoning is peppery. Fried sole fish: super crunchy that we enjoy eating the fins. The inside is tender and juicy. Temple City was so much nicer & quieter. No need to scream to try to have a conversation. This was our first time there even tho I've lived in MPK for 20 years. Service was great. We ordered the orange chicken, honey walnut shrimp, garlic noodles, and chicken fried rice -- all recommended by our server. One nice touch was the complimentary tea at the table when you sit down. The service is terrible. The e sat down with two other tables at the same time.. server took everyone's order and we wait 1 hr for them to come to us-we shared this with his and finally got his iPad and came back. No apology or anything just walked away and came back. The Kim Tar Seafood Restaurant of Monterey Park has been an amazing delight and exciting visit. Our party of 10 was greeted warmly and escorted to a large table to be seated. The set up is family style, with a lazy Susan in the center to hold our dishes. This restaurant manages to be PACKED but not seem claustrophobic. Staff was very helpful for our order, explaining the portion sizes and the weight of the lobster we had selected. Every dish scored top points! From the walnut chicken, to the sesame beef, and the whole fried fish; everything was scrumptious and mouthwatering. Even the tea managed to please all of our palettes. The noise level is high, but to be expected. The tables sit between two to twelve guests with high chairs available if needed. The background sounds from the music and television are mid, but still loud. It's perfectly possible to hold a conversation in this establishment. The are no steps or stairs needed to enter the building and there are several handicap parking spots available throughout the attached parking lot. Delicious, authentic Chinese food and great lunch service! I went with a group of four gals on a Sunday afternoon around 10:45 am. No reservation, and we beat the lunch rush. We enjoyed a whole feast since it was the weekend of Chinese New Year and we just couldn't resist the variety of dishes. For a group of four, we ordered 6 dishes: Sauteed Ong Choy 炒空心菜, French Style Beef 法式牛肉, Special Lobster w/ Butter 特色龙虾配黄油, Crab Meat Fish Maw Soup 蟹肉鱼肚汤, Fried Crispy Tofu 炸脆豆腐, and Steamed Tilapia 清蒸罗非鱼. Our lobster was 3 pounds and even had roe; they even let us greet it before cooking and introduced us to the lobster. They were very accommodating as one of my friends can't handle too much spice, so I asked them to make everything just mildly spicy. Their satay sauce in their sauce caddy turned out to be my savior since I loooovee spicy food and their satay had an alluring, addictive kick to it. I loved it so much I put it on everything. My only regret is that I didn't get some satay sauce to take home. My favorite dish has to be their Steamed Tilapia - beautifully tender, and the green onion soy sauce is just heaven on rice; I just can't make this dish the same at home! What surprised me was their Fried Crispy Tofu and the jalapeno soy dipping sauce. What could seemingly just look like fried tofu is not - because the sauce just makes this tofu dish soooo good. I would reorder it again and again. Not to mention, they offer a variety of drinks and I even had my Vietnamese coffee fix - they do it just right here! We just about devoured all the dishes, and only took a bit of the lobster and soup home. All the staff were surprised our group of four girls could eat so much, but hey, girls gotta eat, right? I'll definitely be bringing up Kim Tar Seafood Restaurant the next time my family wants to eat Chinese food (which is all the time). Needless to say, I left with happy tummies and a big smile. I was in the area and decided to Yelp Asian cuisine and Kim Tar gave good reviews. I enjoyed my visit and the food as well. I ordered the string beans with garlic, salt and pepper shrimp, orange chicken, and their pan fried noodle. I loved the food and flavors but I will say that the orange chicken was a little too breaded for me. Everything else was delicious. The service was great and the our server was attentive. The place was somewhat busy for a Saturday night . We arrived about an hour before closing (11 PM). Kim Tar is inside a shopping center so there is parking available. Tuesday lunch. We ordered the lunch specials and then an appetizer for the heck of it because we were curious about how the pork intestine would taste. Unsure of their food quality, we went for our favorites... sweet and sour fish and the house special squid. Not surprisingly, the food was perfect. I drive past this spot multiple times a week and now I've finally tasted it. The sweet and sour fish was super fresh! How do I know? The tomatoes were juicy, onions were sweet and still has a crunch, and the green bell peppers have that sweet and light juicy crunch to it. It wasn't over cooked at all! The fish was lightly battered and still has enough crunch to know that it came out of the wok just moments ago. For the house special squid, the balance of the salt and pepper seasoning was perfection, but what topped it off wasn't the batter, but the sauce! Man...that sauce! Tasted familiar, like on a beef dish. I'm not complaining, I'm happy with the combination. Don't believe me? Look at the pics; just wish you could smell it though. Oh yes...and the intestine. I came to this restaurant by encouragement from a friend who saw an IG post. I liked it previously so it made for an encouraging dinner. Calling a few other friends made for a wonderful time. I will say be ready for parking lot challenges. Hahaha.... Minus that situation, we waiting over an hour to get a table, as there was a line. Now this may discourage people, but just expect it when a place is good. The staff was helpful and the food came out pretty quickly. Although if you're there for the Lobster and garlic noodles, the noodles are extra. They are worth it though. This was the most expensive dish that we ordered, and of course not the easiest to eat, as the shell was soft and hard to crack open. It was tasty and definitely worth a try. Just left this place a few minutes ago and decided to leave a little review. Upon arrival the place served tea right away, which was a nice touch. The food I did receive was pretty good--my string beans with garlic were fresh, savory, and full of flavor. I also ordered house chow mein, and it came packed with toppings, though it was missing the noodles. That's where the experience fell apart. The beef and American broccoli I ordered never arrived, and the staff didn't check on us at all after we placed our order. No one asked if we needed anything or even looked our way, even though other tables seemed to be getting attentive service. At the end, they initially still charged for the missing beef, and although they removed it from the bill, it was uncomfortable having to try to get the waiters' attention while noticing others were being served appropriately. It was a different experience for me, and definitely different flavors from other Asian restaurants with similar food. Just not for me. I've known about this place for like ever but never had been there until now. It looks like the son has taken over and has used social media for some great advertising. We got the most popular items- French beef filet, house shrimp, green beans, kung pao chicken, and the fried tofu. My favorite dish was surprisingly the fried tofu. It was nice and silky and had a nice crunchy exterior. My second favorite has to be the house special shrimp. It was very flavorful and big pieces of shrimp and they fried it really well. It seems like this place knows how to fry dishes well haha! I will say that the dishes are bursting with flavor like a little too much for my liking. White rice is a must that's for sure. If you are a fan of fried food then this might be a good fit for. Service were mediocre. It took several times to order water or anything. I asked for allegies requests and they really looked us like they had no idea what we were talking about. Luckily we had a Chinese speaking friend who got that sorted out. They dont respond but get you water after askign 3 to 4 times. The food took long time and came spread out so we had a dish waited and had another waited. Not sure if this was intentional. At the end it worked out but they should really brush up on the English and be more responsive in customer request. Fyi, It get packed here on the weekends come early because after 6pm it is going to be a wait. Also they require everyone in the party to be present to be seated. The space is cworded and thigh so if you are co claustrophobic it may be a challenge here. I personally don't mind. My 3 star review is mostly the service and repeat request asks with no response but evenly it gets done. Also, taking long time for food to come out and in too much waiting between dishes. All the dishes here are ginormous! My favorite is their lobster here; very fresh and flavorful! Fried intestines is also another must try; the pickles on the side balances out the grease. Couldn't get enough of it! The scallops are like 3X bigger than what you'd get at sushi restaurant. The batter is a bit too thick IMO and slid off the scallops after the first bite but the flavor is solid. French beef is a little drier than my liking but still good. Everyone that works there has a big smile; I think their boss must be super nice to them! As usual, lots of actions going on at a Chinese restaurant; non stop crowds and laughters. I was too distracted by the food and friends I totally forgot to ask where is Kim Tar? Anyway, I shall find out next time! read more

I grew up eating the siu mai and Chinese donut combo, which is a MUST TRY. They do sell out fast, and recommend to go in before 10am. Do not sleep on their lunch menu - it's a great value and the taste is amazing. I'm already thinking about my next lunch date with my family. read more

Locates in a small plaza, parking was packed during dinner time. We went on a weekday dinner, tables were mostly filled. Service and food were fast. On a pricier side with smaller portion compared to other family-style restaurants in the area. - Bo Luc Lac (Shaken Beef w pepper): 5/5. Super tender, perfectly seasoned. highly recommended. - Sweet & Sour Soup w Fish: 4.5/5. Good balance between the sourness and sweetness, has the authentic flavor. - Fish Filet w Pepper & Salt: 4.8/5. Flavor was spot on! The filets were also fried to a good crispiness. Pretty good! Came here for the lobster special... $35 a pound of lobster so we didn't get it this time. Had the honey walnut, chow mein, green beans , Mongolian beef, fried rice and chow fun. Everything was delicious and reasonable. The service and staff were all pleasant. read more
