As I mentioned before, I prefer small businesses owned by families over corporate giants (McD's, BK....etc) Since this is so close to home, I've been here many times out of convenience, hunger and to support local businesses. Now the burgers here aren't the best in the world, especially since I've eaten at Umami's and other burger joints in SF, Vegas...etc. However, Burger Basket has its own appeal. It's not pretentious, not fancy and not stuffy. The menu is simple, the prices are affordable and the owners are nice, and that's a nice combination. As someone that used to enjoy getting food from here, I am disappointed by their service. My husband is so polite. He said hello and smiled at the cook when we walked in. Cook looked at him in the eye and turned around and ignored him. The cashier looked at us with attitude when I told my husband we should leave because he was rude to him (probably his daughter). I lived up the street from Burger Basket for about a whole year. Finally my kid bugged me enough that I took him here. The outside is outdated and not super enticing, so I had been a bit skeptical. I tried one of his fries. WOAH! Fresh, crunchy and delicious! I went back and ordered a cheeseburger combo for myself. I love this place for the following reasons: The family is super friendly and sweet, grateful to have your business. There is a lot of parking. The place is clean! They are constantly cleaning it. The food is super fresh. They don't make it, even the fries, until you order your food. The food is super good and tasty. Not a big ol' sloppy fat burger. Just a regular sized tasty one with fresh tasting ingredients. Best part. The prices. $5 for a cheeseburger special. I dare you to try and eat a combo this good and fresh for $5 anywhere else. The menu is extremely simple and straightforward. I usually just order a Special #1, which comes with a cheeseburger, fries, pickle, and soda. The burger, while not the pinnacle of its kind, is still quite excellent when compared to its peers in its price range. The fries are nice and crispy, and the staff will hand you a bottle of ketchup that you can squeeze and empty to your heart's content. The staff here always seems nice enough to deal with. The restaurant is rather tiny - there is limited seating (most of it uncomfortable), and (unfortunately) no restroom available to the patrons. Parking in the lot is always spacious. They have some great meal deals where you can get a burger, fries, and a soda for about $5 and change. My family has been coming to this awesome spot since before I was born- around 28 years! They owners just changed but they kept it in the family and kept the recipes the same - thank God! They have added new specials which is nice and Thai tea! Yum! They're burgers and fries are amazing and they're very accommodating if you're a little picky like me and very decently priced! They've had to raise their prices a little to compete with their competition but still totally worth it! Seating is a little limited but you can call ahead and take to go! They also ONLY TAKE CASH. I am 54 years old, and been eating here since I was 9. I was there when he took over the business and have since raised my kids there, and my grandkids. I drive all the way from Murrieta to eat here. Every burger was worth the drive. I am glad to hear the business has been passed on, but it will not be the same without Boonthai and his family there. When my SO and I ordered for the first time, we got a cheeseburger and corn dog, and were met with kind and excellent service. If I could give a 4.5, that's what I'd give but here goes the update. It wasn't that long ago when the meal I got was $6.50, but today's cost is now $9.65. I do get a drink now included but I'd much rather have the old system. The taste remains excellent and I adore the family members. They are now credit card friendly too, so don't have to worry about having cash. At the end of the day, I know they've got to make a living. But, the old system was both delicious and a bargain. The new system isn't really a bargain anymore as I technically can get more food for less money at the Carl's Jr. It does feel good to support small local business, but I don't see myself coming in every week or two like before. Food is messy and they don't provide enough napkins to clean up after. They changed the sizing of their drinks some time ago. It is good for a quick fix, if you have 40 minutes to wait in line, order and assume they heard your requests. They don't put lids on correct;y nor are they very nice. A combo will run you around $7, which isn't too bad, considering you'll pay double for less food at other, more bougie burger places. Yeah, the burgers and fries aren't fresh cut like ye olde In N' Out, but this is a mom and pop shop, and In N' Out is a chain in multiple states that has the funds to buy fresh ingredients in bulk for cheap.
