When I heard that Burger Shed was owned by the same restaurant group that owned the Machine Shed restaurant I loved to visit before they went out of business, I was very excited to check them out. With "Shed" as part of the name, I expected to see farm implements on the walls and a down home country theme, a similar vibe as the old Machine Shed. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Burger Shed is located in the lobby of the Embassy Suites hotel and in my opinion the atmosphere is like a rather sterile and cold sports bar. The walls are non-descript and during my visit the large flat screens were all turned off. Why do you have the TVs if you aren't going to turn them on? The first thing I spotted on the menu was the "beer cheese fondue with fresh baked pretzels" on the starter menu. The pretzels were fresh baked alright, fresh baked after they pulled them from a box that could have been purchased from the supermarket freezer. I was also disappointed in the size of my iced tea glass. I felt bad for our server who was forced to return to our table over and over again to refill my glass simply because it didn't hold much. And the tea was too strong, similar to the iced tea that is served in the Northeastern US. The beef in the burgers is a combination of Angus ground beef and brisket and it was cooked perfectly, but a little on the smallish side, probably just a quarter pound. My tator tots were a slightly under cooked - another minute or so in the fryer would have improved their texture and made them much crisper. They tout their pork tenderloin as an award winner but it wasn't anything to get excited about - not particularly juicy or flavorful. Lots of restaurants seem to compete with each other to see who can make the largest port tenderloin, but I don't think Burger Shed is participating in this contest. There is a stairway in the restaurant that appears to lead to what I believe is a fun 2nd floor patio with outdoor seating, but this section must have been closed during our visit because they didn't offer to allow us to sit there. Nothing about our meal was particularly bad, it just didn't meet my expectations. The menu offers some unique combinations of burger ingredients and I've heard good things about their desserts so you may have a better experience than I did, but I double we'll return again. read more

We went for dinner on a Saturday night. We walked to the host stand and were greeted with 'what can I do for you?' By an annoyed looking host. Dinner?! He said okay and asked how many people. There were only two of us. He asked if we wanted a high top or low top. Low top, he stated, 'I'll see if any of those are available' when 3/4 is the restaurant, probably more, was empty. Weird flex, but okay. We were seated and the server was immediately there and asked us for our drink order. The person I was with was prepared and ordered his beer. I was unsure and took a quick glance at the drink menu. No more than 30 seconds later, the server made it awkward and said she would just get us some waters. While I appreciate her promptness, her patience could have been a little longer. There were no other tables around. I did order a drink at that time, which was okay, but if I had like 15 seconds more to look at the drink menu, I would have ordered something else. We got our drinks. She dropped them off and walked away. Didn't even ask if we were ready to order food. We were. Waited another ten minutes to order. There was a table seated after us, that had a different server, that had already received their apps. Was a little jelly, cause hungry. She did come back and we ordered an app and burgers. The wings were good, but we didn't receive any ranch or bleu cheese to dip it in. We did have to ask for that. We also didn't have any app plates or extra napkins. I believe the manager gave us those and had the server bring the dipping sauces back. Appreciate that! The burgers. Well, they were okay. It was a sensory overload with so many tastes trying to cover up for the bland, Costco patty. Brioche bun, they are delicious, but also cheating. Tater tots...probs frozen from a bag, pretty sure the mac & cheese was made from a box. I was asked if I wanted another drink...I didn't , but my friend, his beer was empty. She didn't even look or ask. He tried to ask while she was there, but our server had already turned around left the table. He did get another beer, about 10 minutes later. During that time, it was noticed that half of our glasses were plastic and the other half was an actual glass. This came with a good laugh. I didn't know we needed differentiated glass for different beverage types. Needless to say, the food was okay, the service left much to be desired and probably won't visit again cause it was not worth the $80 that was paid for the meal. read more

I only had an apple pie shake and not a full meal. The ice cream was good but the pie chunks tasted waxy. I was disappointed by the waste factor- my shake arrived in a styrofoam cup (why? We were dining in, a bar glass would have been great), and that drinks are served with plastic straws, including water, without being asked first. They do have a paper straw option for the shakes so why not just ask the customer if they want paper before automatically bringing the single-use plastic? Our server was the best part, she was great. I was excited to try this place, it had great reviews. It's in a hotel with a cool ambience. However it was pretty disappointing. The burger patty themselves were very dry and flavorless. The bun was toasted well at least which was nice. My friend said his sandwich was fine. But the service was fairly slow and not too good. The only positives I have to say about this place are it's cool inside, and they have decent burger shed sauce. I wouldn't really recommend this place, for $15 burgers I expect a little better both food and service. It wasn't terrible, just definitely wasn't better than any fast food joint. read more

We will never eat here again. They were out of several beers. The sheddar cheese curds were frozen and then baked and weren't even hot when they got to us. My husband had a French dip which wasn't hot either with tasteless au jus and the coleslaw was covered in liquid mayonnaise. My southwest burger came out and wasn't hot or barely warm. The chipotle sauce was almost non-existent. The patties they use are frozen. The only good thing were the tater tots, but pretty hard to screw that up. Don't eat here. read more

I really hate to leave a negative review, but future customers need to know to level set expectations. We are only one group of four and the place was busy. Unfortunately our server was hard to understand and had a hard time understanding us so service wasn't stellar. We had to ask many times to get what we needed I.e. drink menu, wrong cocktail and I went to the bar to correct it, multiple asks for ranch sauce for the chicken tenders (and not whatever that was brought to us), which looked dry get ranch sauce for the chicken tenders (and not whatever it was that the bill. The Italian Beef sandwich was dry and no flavor. The fries weren't hot and we ended up with extra specialty fries instead of a substitution for the original fries. We enjoyed the J bar for cocktails. This place exceeded all expectations for me. The burger (with extra patty) was just delicious, juicy, and flavorful. The fries were crunch and very fluffy inside. The service was yet again something excellent. The bar tender was courteous and even ensured the drink that was ordered was up to par. All right this is going to be a long review so stay with me. Honestly, I think the Burger shed has the potential to be a five star restaurant. Right now I would say they are a 4.75. They have a few kinks to work out to include getting their name on the side of the building. My wife and I went in to the Embassy suites and the main restaurant has a sign saying it is closed for construction. But if you go to the patio portion of the restaurant you are in business. My wife and I went on Thursday evening. The staff was great. They were attentive, friendly and cheerful. We ordered the shedder bites ( cheese curds). They were great without any sauce but are served with ranch and bbq sauce. again great flavor alone but ranch always adds to a meal. We both ordered burgers the shed burger and the farmhouse burger. We did not think about it when the waitress took our order but I prefer a rare burger. Either way the burgers were juicy and rally flavorful. On the shed burger I really enjoyed the brisket. I am going to go back for the brisket sandwich. Also of note do not dismiss the pickles. Not certain the origin but they were not your run of the mill pickle. Flavor from old school pickle making that really brings out the flavor and bite. Side note. The Mac and cheese was not our favorite but had a good Parmesan bread crumb topping that some will really enjoy. Not a ideal for my taste but to each is own. Italian Beef Sandwich with tots was excellent and it's hard to find this sandwich on menus throughout the KC Metro area. My father got the turkey reuben with a side salad and enjoyed that as well. A huge improvement over the "J-Bar", a ridiculously noisy bar/restaurant. If this place is busy, I still recommend hearing protection--it can be really difficult to have a conversation without yelling. Lots of hard surfaces. Pretty loud. We waited a good five minutes for a table while a carry out order was being sorted. Servers here are so-so. Food is really good! Cheesesteak Egg Rolls are the best I've had anywhere. Italian beef sandwich was good, garnish was housemade pickles. Sauces are made in the kitchen as well--very foodie for a place called burger shack. Chili was exactly like the stuff you get from Hormel (yes, the can). The salad was mostly slimy and wet, not good at all. The server came by several times and did not notice or comment, except to say it was a big salad. Once you pull out all of the slimy stuff it's not that big at all. Here on a business trip and i wanted to grab some dinner before i get in my room. Sunday night football was on, so it was a great start. Not the friendliest employees. It took over 5 mins to get a menu, and that's after me asking if I needed to seat myself, as the worker stood at the front. Nice place to watch a game, but slow to take care of the customers. I ordered the mushroom burger, and it was just ok. I wanted it to be great based on its appearance, but it was lacking flavor. The French fries were good. I ordered a side salad, the croutons are way too small and hard to get them on a fork. There was a male customer seated at the bar, the waitress had to know him as she was spending some time with him. The male customer was smoking his vape at the bar, and no one said anything to him. Popped in here around 7:30 on a Saturday evening and was surprised to see that it wasn't terribly busy. Hubby and I shared the "tin can nachos" and the Rueben burger. The nachos were fine - not sure what made them "tin can" but they were generously topped and fresh and pretty dang good. The burger was super yummy and the fries.... might be some of the yummiest I've had in a while. Reminds me of the Barley's fries - fat and fluffy inside while super hot and crispy outside. This is right in our hood so I'm sure we'll be back. Lots of burgers to try and given that this is an Iowa establishment, feel like you've got to try the pork tenderloin. read more

The Burger Shed was our favorite place to hang out during our conference at the Embassy Suites in Olathe. The staff truly made the experience memorable. Big applause for Ryan, Brice, and Alisha. Only the Terrace is open but it was a lovely spring evening. We ordered cheese curds as an appetizer and 2 burgers- a Burger Shed Burger and a No BS Burger. Both were delicious and cooked to perfection. We added fries to one and tots to the other- both were perfect add ons! They had a few beers on tap- good selection if you like microbrews or macrobrews! Visited the Burger Shed on a Saturday afternoon. First thing's first - there is no signage outside to tell you where this place actually is. Signs on the highway, no signs outside the hotel. Until we arrived we actually didn't know it was even in the hotel. Once we got to the restaurant there was no sign saying seat yourself so we waited for a while at the host stand. No one ever came so we sat at the bar. I noticed several hotel guests standing at the host stand who eventually left because they weren't being helped. All this said, the food was good and the service was friendly. It was everything ELSE that drove my score down. Fix the first impressions externally and this is a solid place to eat. read more
