I tried Burger State for the first time in April and it was the best burger I have had in a long time. It's located in South Waldo on Wornall. No frills, order at the counter, and wait for them to call your order when it's ready. I made it back a couple weeks ago and it was just as good as I remembered. The staff were friendly each visit. It wasn't busy either time I was there but they have plenty of space to sit and eat. They have different specials they offer throughout the week. I ordered the "double state" burger during each visit and it was fresh and juicy and comes with whatever toppings you'd like. The fries were crispy and well seasoned just how I like them. I opted to add their Burger State sauce to my burger and fries because it was delicious but they definitely didn't need it. Looking forward to trying the Tenderloin on my next visit. read more

I got excited about adding my own toppings and forgot that it comes with stuff on it already, but I added mushrooms and Swiss to my Paleo Burger and it was everything I needed to break my fast for the day. This place is fantastic! My husband has always raved about their great food but I had never had the opportunity to stop by.... Until today! I had the best hamburger I've ever tasted ( Mango & Habanero Jam Burger, see picture... which we were informed will be available through August as well). I checked out their website and love the fact that the beef is locally farmed and you can definitely taste the freshness and quality. The restaurant is spacious, clean and open. Solid burger and fries and I like how sauces were provided on the side. Assembly well done. I think the burger patty recipe could be improved to give it a little more umph because to me it tasted generic or store bought rather than made in house which could really take it to the next level. The fries were slightly oversalted but only slightly. Also I don't like pickles in my burger, would prefer jalapenos as an option but forgot to ask if it's available. Everything held itself together though the bun was easily flattened by the end. The place could use some attention and minor upgrades such as chair reupholstering or replacement, window cleaning, and the women's toilet is wobbly. Enjoyed the 80s music. Wow this place is incredible! I wish I could give more than 5 stars! We ordered the double stack with grilled onions and american cheese, it was one of the best burgers I've ever had. Cooked to perfection and well done but still so juicy it drips on your fingers. The fries were well seasoned and the ranch was a perfect compliment to them. Dont forget to try the burger sauce, which tastes exactly like In-N-Out sauce. The service was also great! We didn't wait more than ten minutes for our food. The inside was clean and well-lit. I had the fried chicken sandwich and my partner had the double state burger... both were phenomenal! Cooked perfectly, great toppings and served piping hot - prepped per order. Fries were FANTASTIC! Out the door for less than $20 and very full / happy tummies! Staff is super friendly. Restaurant is super clean and open / airy. Parking was a breeze and the atmosphere was relaxed. Burger State is working hard at what they do. It's a step above fast food, plus they have beer, wine for $5, paleo options and salads. The bad: we learned way too late that the kids meal of mac and cheese is actually just microwaved Kraft Mac and cheese. Uncool that the menu does not say this, because we assumed it was house made. The kids meal comes with fries (yay!) and "dessert," which is a styrofoam cup of Blue Bunny ice cream with the peel-off-paper lid. Fries are excellent: they are the breaded/orangey seasoning variety and they're very very tasty. My single burger came with an odd caution when I ordered it, "It's only a 3.5 oz burger" the woman at the counter told me. I'm not a large person so the fact that they lead with, "be sure to order the double" kind of hit me weird. In hindsight, I strongly suspect the double with cheese is the way to go. I don't love cheese on burgers, but these are the thin patties so... cheese for me from now on. Super nice staff, very clean, and not freezing cold in the summer. read more

Recently tried their KC fried burger and sweet potato fries! The burger was super juicy and was fully of flavor on the inside and outside. I think it could have used a little more sauce between the bun maybe an aioli or chipotle mayonnaise to help balance the beer flavor but I enjoyed how different it was compared to the other burger places KC is currently offering.
