Right in the heart of downtown Burien, you'll find Burien Press! There's plenty of parking in the area, but most of it is two hours... So if you're planning on staying and working/studying a while, note that you might have to move your car at some point. Burien Press is really trendy - not quite what you'd find in downtown Seattle, but a little bit more hipster than the rest of Burien for sure. I ended up going with a Cardamom Latte (it seems to be pretty popular here!) and a Cheddar & Bacon breakfast sandwich. The Cardamom Latte was super yummy! It was full of flavor and came at a perfect temperature so I could start sipping right away. The breakfast sandwich was also pretty tasty - I feel like a lot of breakfast sandwiches are bland but this one was actually pretty good. Prices were pretty decent, too. For the largest size latte it was a little over $5 and the breakfast sandwich was about the same - I ended up spending about $11. I think my only complaint was that the WHOLE time I was here (almost three hours) they kept the door to the coffee shop WIDE OPEN like it was summer or something... It was definitely only 40 degrees out (and raining) so I was cold pretty much the entire time I was here. Burien Press is definitely a great place to work or meet up with friends. Baristas here are the best!! They remembered my drink but the 3rd or 4th time I was in there, and you can totally sense that they know what they're talking about and have a true passion for coffee and dedication to craft. When I ask about their drip they always give me the origin and notes and a little backstory. Also! Seeing how they interact with each other is awesome too! Got a decaf latte here and it was delicious! Great service and social distancing policy (only two people in the shop to order). After you order, they ask you to step outside and will hand you your drink/food outside. I originally chose this place to meet my friend since it's dog friendly as they have a patio in the back. However because of COVID, their patio is closed. It worked out that they're in downtown Burien because they are right across the library so there was plenty of outdoor seating. You simply do what you do effectively, every time. They speak softly. Customer service here is gentle and helpful, not unctuous or demanding. They get it that you might be a little tired in the morning, and they address each customer individually. No garish signage, loud music or attitude. The big stick in this scenario is their product, especially the espresso. The house roast is the "Big Truck" blend done by Olympia Coffee. It yields a rich, winey (smoothy acidic, like wine) shot with toasty tree-nut flavors and roasted cacao notes, and a neat pepper bite on the finish. Straight shot lovers note: drink it quick, as the crema decays rapidly, or ask for macchiato or con panna (whipped cream dollop). In a latte, this translates into a very well-balanced, chocolate-like mouthfeel, as lactic sugars diminish the acids and cacao notes come forward. Great cappuccino here: perfect 1-1-1 ratio (espresso-milk-foam) and beautifully presented, but no true cap on top. CapQuest™ rating 8.5 (See picture). The mocha here is the true, bitter-sweet cocoa version I adore; the alkaloids in the cocoa take over from the milk sugars and present a more bitter chocolate flavor, and the winey nature of the Big Truck roast is highlighted subtly, a kind of "Peanut-butter and jelly" effect. Top notch mocha! Set aside your Hershey's foo-foo sugar buzz expectations, and enjoy the original flavor profile of this exceptional version! Like all true espresso shops, (by which I mean shops that have people crafting beverages by hand, not people tending machines that do the thinking for them) they're only as good as their baristas, no matter what coffee they use. The folks here have an easy way with the beans and machines, keep their tools clean and never steam milk twice. They know their product, and serve it with confidence. Quiet, powerful competence. Burien Press' artisan quality alone makes them a worthwhile airport detour or neighborhood destination in emerging Burien. The coffee is excellent, the technique near flawless, the store clean and inviting, food options (Macrina pastries, quiche, breakfast sandwich options) are focused and simple. They could phone it in, as they are nearly the only game in town, but they don't. This is the kind of business anyone concerned about keeping it local should get behind. This was a perfect coffee shop! To be fair, we ventured quite far from where we were for the day to find this place (Southcenter) but it was well worth the drive! To our surprise, they served Olympia coffee, one of our favorites! We are coffee snobs, that's why we couldn't find anything in Southcenter We got 2 lattes, a bag of coffee beans, and a biscuit with jam. Everything was delish and the guy at the front let me know they make all their food in house - UM DOUBLE YUM! Another awesome revelation is that Moonshot coffee is their sister cafe! We like to try small business coffee houses when we visit new places. Of course I found Burien Press on Yelp because Yelp is always my first look for finding local businesses. This establishment had great reviews so it was a natural choice. You could tell this is a favorite of the locals because they had a pretty good line. It took a minute to get to the head of the line but when we did, the ordering and receiving of our order was pretty efficient. They had a pretty unique menu, with your standard coffee drinks and some unique choices, such as the Theo mocha, which is what we ordered. Since a mocha is what we generally order wherever we go. We also ordered a pastry (orange marmalade almond morning bun, I think) and a peanut butter cookie. Both were divine. They had seating in the rear and some outside seating. It was a nice quaint establishment. They also sold wine, which I thought was great. If I had not already checked my bags, I would have purchased a few bottles. Burien Press has a wonderful selection of coffee and their latte art is amazing! I got the "Autumn Latte," which had an explosion of fall in my mouth: cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves. It was complimented by the creaminess from the hemp milk, which made it delicious. I did a bit of reading in the cafe, but it might be harder to focus in the weekends because the place gets packed. I think if you wanna do some work, try dropping by on the weekdays. The new shop has coffee from Caffe Vita, sandwiches from Domovoi Happy Foods, and pastries from Macrina Bakery. Quaint little coffee shop housed in Downtown Burien. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the front and back of the shop allow for natural light to fill the space, creating a bright and welcoming atmosphere. Friendly waitstaff, reasonable prices, local, and cozy overall feel. :) You could come with your laptop prepared to work, and do so comfortably without feeling pressured to keep buying things or leave after a certain period of time. There is outdoor patio seating in back, as well as another seating area with cushiony chairs and a couch. A carafe dispensing free water can be found on the coffee shelf (on the left, if you enter through the front). Complimentary guest WiFi. Highly recommended! So I haven't actually had their food or coffee. But availability of product is important to me so still doing a review. This was the second place I stopped to try and get breakfast after the first said they had run out of food. This place was somewhat busy, and the guy behind the counter was polite. The coffee looked quality but I didn't have any because they also had no food. They had a handful of cookies and ONE breakfast sandwich which was a "pesto patty" and looked old. I was dissapointed. He said they were making their food that day. I wondered what that meant, did they make food one day a week and then when they run out a few days later they make more or??? Anyway, not somewhere I would go for breakfast! They DID have these brown paper mystery IPA sacks which featured seven mystery beers for $30. Honestly I may have bought one if they had food, they looked cool, and they're selection of wine and beer was unique and expansive. They sell quite a bit of alcohol, but not much food lol. I would possibly give this place another shot and cross my fingers they made food that day. Also, they were collecting non perishable food and had quite the collection, so that's cool. It is a small space, just like two tables so definitely more of a to go spot. read more

It was my first time here and I enjoyed it a lot. There are street parkings around for free but for 2 hours only. First impression when walking in? Love it! The interior is very adorable with indoor seatings and outdoor. Very causal environment, a great place to hang out with friends for coffee, studying or just chilling. The coffee is very different from other coffee joints that I've been too, they offer speciality flavor coffees, which is great! They are priced reasonably from $3-5/6 a cup. Very tasty! Great coffee We ordered a 6oz cappuccino and dark chocolate mocha along with a biscuit and couple bottled drinks. The cappuccino reminded me of Blue Bottle with just a hint of bit more tannin. The service was outstanding. There were two baristas/staffs at the time, and both were friendly and helpful. I have not tried their biscuits yet, but from the reviews it looks promising. Yes, I have reviewed 8 Starbucks and visited several more. But I am as much of a supporter of local independent coffee shop. Coffee is coffee. I just visited Burien for the first time recently. 5 years to the day that I moved to Seattle actually. I was actually kind of surprised at how quaint the business district on SW 152nd was. After visiting Australian Pie Company next door, I stepped into Burien Press to get some java. The space is a little small, but I like the surprisingly modern decor. The interior consists of standard tables and chairs. There is also a bar stool seating area by the window. While there are no comfy couches or leather chairs, the interior is very conducive for studying and working on a laptop. Plus they have free open wi-fi here. Had the Americano ($2.40) which was good and strong. They use Caffé Vita beans BTW. In addition to coffee, they do also carry sandwiches and pastries here. I passed on this, perfectly fine with the bakery stash that I picked up at Australian Pie. Really like Burien Press. Cool decor and comfortable vibe. What a delightful coffee shop! I've always been a fan of Olympia Coffee Roasters, and seeing that Burien Press used the good stuff piqued my interest. At last, I was a few minutes early to pick someone up at the airport and was able to make a quick detour to grab a cup of coffee. I ordered an Espresso Tonic with Orange and...HOLY COW! I am not often so thoroughly impressed with a new and interesting coffee drink, but this thing was fantastic! The flavor of the espresso was not overpowered by the orange or the tonic. It was simply phenomenal. A delightful change from your standard iced/nitro coffee. My husband got an almond milk chai. They use Rishi concentrate I believe, which is delicious. We grabbed a cookie too. Were told that there was a chocolate chip oatmeal and a peanut butter chocolate chip oatmeal, but the guy at the counter want sure which was which. I could see this being a predicament for some, but I was down for either so I had him just grab one. Let the shop and discovered I had an oatmeal raisin cookie.... Although it was tasty, I'm sure I don't need to explain to you the disappointment of biting into a cookie expecting chocolate chips and getting raisins.... Walked back into the shop and they swapped the cookie out. No problem and with smiles on their faces. Oh, and the baristas made friendly small talk with us as they poured the coffees, and there was plenty of parking around the shop. Easily my favorite coffee shop in Burien. Everyone is so friendly and I love Burien Press' seasonal menus. I'm ADDICTED to their seasonal menu right now with a huge focus on lavender. I'm the biggest lavender lover and so far I've tried their lavender matcha and lavender latte. On their other seasonal menu, I had their Mexican mocha. Lavender matcha: 100/5. OH MY GOSH. If you get one thing off their current seasonal menu, make it this one. This tastes like a scoop of ice cream with lavender essence. It's seriously so addicting and dreamy. They seriously found the best balance to taste both the matcha and lavender. I recommend this drink with whole milk since it tastes much more complementary and balanced. I had this with soy milk and it overshadowed both the lavender and matcha flavors. Lavender latte: 4/5. This lavender latte wasn't the best lavender latte I've tried but definitely a solid option! I had it with oat milk and I think maybe that overshadowed the lavender. Mexican mocha: 4.25/5. I loved the spices in this drink and it tasted spicy, warm, and cozy. Would for sure recommend! London fog: 3.5/5. I feel like it's very hard to find a good London fog and this wasn't one of them. Unfortunately it just wasn't memorable. Overnight oats: 4.5/5. I seriously love these oats omg. It's a coconut-based overnight oat with chia seeds and they have different purées that go on top like blood orange, strawberry, and passion guava. Blood orange and strawberry are my favorites! And you HAVE to get a side of chopped nuts. They add so much nice texture. The only con is that it could use more flavor. I would add purée to boost the flavor. Breakfast sandwiches: 4.25/5. I loved my vegan pesto breakfast sandwich. It was flavorful and yummy and the ham sandwich was a solid option too. Overall I love making trips to Burien Press. I can't wait to come back! read more
