This place is the definition of getting your moneys worth! I came here last month for my birthday with my about 9 of my friends. It was an amazing experience and I can't wait to come back! The food was amazing, and having grilled seafood cooked in front of you was surely an experience. I did forget the gentleman who took care of my reservation but he was literally the absolute sweetest. Our group did have to sit outside so it was a bit chilly but we still enjoyed. I'm telling you guys need to come here and experience it!

Truly a delicious and unique seafood bbq restaurant. Really enjoyed and thought the food was delicious. I was worried the set fog 1-2 people wouldn't be enough but we left very full. Highly recommend if you are trying to lower red meat consumption

I've been hearing about this place a lot recently it's basically Korean BBQ but with seafood. Came on a weekday with a group of 8, and while it's usually busy, we grabbed a table in the back patio so we didn't have to wait too long. We went with the Captain Set and the Crew Set. Both came with banchan and cold Korean noodles, which were super refreshing alongside all the grilled seafood. Everything is cooked over coals, which gives it a nice smoky flavor that really brings the seafood to life. I even tried hagfish for the first time it's definitely unique, but glad I gave it a shot. Price-wise, it feels a little high for what you get. At the end of the day it's just mainly clams and mussels.., so it didn't really fill me up the same way a KBBQ set would. But the quality was good, and I liked that the meal finished with a hot noodle soup comforting and a nice way to end the spread. Overall, it's a fun spot to check out with friends if you're into grilled seafood and want something different from the usual KBBQ routine.

From other reviews, the restaurant has parking in the back. * Meal: if you like seafood and KBBQ, look no further! 5 stars. * Service: friendly and pleasant. 4 stars. This restaurant came up on my IG feeds... looks awesome... we were not disappointed! The restaurant does not take reservations online. We came on a weeknight, found a street parking right infront and got seated right away (scored!) They have 4 tower sets: crew set ($109) serving 1-2 persons, chief set ($159.99) serving 3-4, master ($219.99) serving 4-5, captain ($299) serving 5-6. They also have a la carte, hot pot, etc. We had crew set which includes 1.4 lbs Manila clams, 2 whole shell oyster, large clams, shrimps, mussles, scallops, octopus, potatoes, served with korean ceviche, steam egg, pancake, spicy rice cakes, korean noodle soups. There are 3 different dipping sauces which are delicious. It is a lot of food. You definitely get your money worth here. The staff is friendly and attentive. They cooked the seafood at the table. The air ventilator is pretty good but I probably won't wear my must dry-clean clothes to dine here. Overall, Burnin' Shell did live up to its hype!

I ordered the Captain Set ($200) which promises Manila Clams, Whole Shelled Oysters, Large Clam, Shrimps, Scallops with Cheese, 3 Abalone, Hagfish, Live Lobster (Steamed), Marinated Baby Octopus, Buttered Squid, Potato, Sweet Potato, and sides of Ceviche, Steamed Eggs, Korean Pancakes, Corn Cheese, Fried Shrimp, Korean Spicy Rice Cakes, Bay Scallop Soup, and Korean Noodle Soup. It was quite underwhelming as a majority of the seafood served was just clams. The more expensive seafood promised was only one piece per person. Notable items: Manila Clams, Scallops with Cheese, Buttered Squid, the butter sauce with the lobster, and the Korean Noodle Soup. They also slow cook everything so we were in there for almost an hour and a half to two hours. It took even longer because one of the clams refused to open up so they had to get us a new one. Nothing truly stood out to me or appeared as worth the price. Since it's primarily protein, you don't feel full at the end as well if you don't order extra carbs on the side. This was enough for 4 people if you only want to feel 80% full.

What We Ordered - Crew Set It was my first time at a seafood bbq place so I opted go try a set menu instead of a la carte. I enjoyed everything but key highlights were the Korean ceviche, steamed egg, fried shrimp, Manila clams, mussels and whole shelled oysters. Now that I know what to like, will go with a la carte in the future! Dipping sauces were great, especially the green sauce!

This place is the real deal when it comes to Korean cuisine. We used to visit before the pandemic when it was called Daebudo, and we had a fantastic experience then, and it's still great now. We ordered the combo for 1-2 people (set #1), and it was plenty for both of us. The servers were all fantastic, answering any questions we had, and they cook the seafood right in front of you on the grill. Valet is $4, and there's plenty of parking. The valet took our key, asked us to pay in advance, and handed the key back so we could leave without needing to ask for it. It's LA parking, so our expectations were low. We'll definitely be back!

I checked out this spot last Saturday for dinner. We got there pretty early around 5 PM and we were seated right away. The place is really small, and I don't think they take reservations, but they do have a waitlist. We ordered the crew set, which is meant for three people, and it came with all the banchan from the companion's list. Everything was flavorful. I get why people mention the clams being tiny after cooking, but that's just how clams are. If that's a concern, you can always order à la carte. Since we were a party of three, we added another pancake and cheese corn. Just a heads up, you have to pay for extra banchan, unlike some regular K-BBQ spots where it's unlimited. We also tried the sea eel. It was good, but I wasn't blown away, and honestly, the menu felt a bit limited. This place was hyped up a lot on IG, but for me, it didn't quite live up to that. The staff were great and really attentive and ready to help at any moment. One tip: they provide a single glove, so use it to handle the burning hot shells and avoid burning your skin! Overall, it's a little too far for me so I'd probably choose another spot for this kind of meal closer to home.

We came on a weekday night after work in a group of 8 and they got us seated right away. Burning Shell is a fun spot if you're craving seafood with a Korean twist. Definitely have one of the freshest seafood in Ktown. They serve big portions of fresh clams, mussels, shrimp, and crab, usually cooked right at your table in a spicy, flavorful broth. We ordered live lobster and it was both amazing and entertaining. The atmosphere is lively and perfect for groups, and it's definitely a bit messy but worth it for the experience. Great place to come hungry and share!

This restaurant was recommended to me if I ever craved Jeju-style seafood in Ktown, particularly for the abalone. I think on Google, this restaurant is/was called "The C" or "Daebudo" before they changed their name to Burnin' Shell, so it was a bit confusing when we drove up, but we managed to find it okay! The parking lot in the back was very convenient, and it was nice to easily walk-in and get seated right away on a Thursday evening with no reservation. The ambiance was casual, relaxed, and they served alcohol which was nice because we had some friends visiting. There were four of us altogether, and we were trying to decide between the combination seafood order 3-4 or 2-3. We decided to go with the 2-3 people serving because half of us were girlies, and we're SO GLAD WE DID! By the end of the meal, we were stuffed! Good quality fresh seafood with great side dishes, and the service was ON POINT. They grilled everything for us, and let us know when the different seafoods were ready to eat. Overall, we had a great time! Burnin' Shell is at the top of my list the next time I have a hankering for fresh seafood. I think my parents would approve as well.

So it has been a name change from Dae Bu Do to Burnin' Shell!! Brought my mother-in-law here for her birthday and was absolutely impressed with not only the incredible quality and freshness of the food, but the top tier service that was provided by the entire staff. Sam was our main server for the evening and he was beyond my expectations. Super attentive to not only our table but all. They made sure everything was cooked properly but not overcooked. Parking can kind of suck but there is a valet for $2, so I'm not worried about it. Let's be honest, parking in LA matters. I wish I could recommend one singular item but everything was absolutely delicious and I sincerely recommend everything on the menu. Dont be intimidated by any price's because you are definitely getting more than your moneys worth here. Definitely will be back. And I hope the quality of food and service does not change! read more

One of the things I miss most in Asia is the grilled shellfish restaurants. I've been wanting to check out this K-town restaurant for months and finally rounded up a group of 6 to go. TBH they were very brave because 2 of them had a shrimp and crustacean allergy, and 1 of them was a little fearful of live seafood but said "I'll try it." I discovered some of them had never eaten clams, grilled oysters, abalone, grilled scallops in the shell, or non-fried squid before in their life. None of us had tried hagfish before but 1 did know what it was from the Discovery Channel and gave us a mini lecture about them. I made a reservation for 3 pm (opening time) and everything was ready for us on the dot. FOOD: All of the sets are an amazing deal (a staff member is grilling everything nonstop for you) and has a very nice variety of shellfish. Originally I was going to order the Master set ($178) and supplement off the a la carte menu, but they recommended getting the larger signature Captain set which also adds an extra abalone and a steamed lobster for $230 ($38/pp). It said it serves 4-5 but we were given so much food we needed a to-go box for the clams. I've never been to a seafood restaurant where they give you MORE food than what you expected. The food was so good, 1 person even forgot about My Octopus Teacher and ate a baby octopus without thinking twice about it. All of the sides were delicious, they paid just as much attention to it as the main seafood. The corn had been grilled before adding cheese, which gave it an extra level of depth. The scallop soup looked plain but was super savory. I might come back just to order another bowl of mulhweh ($15 a la carte). SERVICE: Above and beyond. The level of service was on par with far more expensive restaurants. They genuinely wanted you to have a good time and come back. I told them about the shrimp/crustacean allergy, and they were very understanding. They said if we wanted we could substitute clams for shrimp. I told them they could just grill the shrimp last (on the same grill) but they were very safe and used a grill at a different table. Everything was grilled in front of us and them set on share plates so we didn't need to wonder if it was ready to eat. There was even a bit of a food show with the pirate chest lobster and blowtorch fire. 1 person was addicted to the cheesy corn and wanted another one, he was told it would be $8 which he was OK with, but at the end the manager/owner (?) told him it was on the house. He was so happy to have it all to himself haha. 1 of us wanted white rice (he felt incomplete without rice I guess) and he marveled at the single bowl of freshly steamed rice that arrived just for him LOL. I saw on the receipt later that they also gave it to us on the house. They were also very transparent about the 18% gratuity that's automatically included for groups of 6+ and reminded us that we didn't need to add additional tip. The staff worked hard and totally deserved the tip, it was way more effort than just refilling water. AMBIENCE: very clean and modern, pirate theme PARKING: There is a large lot behind the restaurant, the entrance is off Ingraham. I read reviews saying it's valet, but it was free self park when we went at 3pm. read more

We had an amazing time. The service was superb! Although it's a bit in the pricy side, I think the service and the freshness of the food all made it worthwhile. I was looking forward to this as I was looking for this type of restaurant for YEARS grilled seafood with cheese was a bucket list item. It was so much food but I think we should have passed on the lobster since it was nothing special except the display but even that was lacking on our meal. Last item was the eel and for someone who loves regular eel this was not something we were accustomed to or liked. Before midway we were stuffed. Recommend to go hungry! And if sets have too much just order individual items. My fav was the mulhweh and scallops with cheese. I would definitely more scallops next time instead of a set - but it's the perfect way to try EVERYTHING! read more

Not going to give fake review for a freebie drinkI. Shady. Don't trust the other reviews of 5 star.. Still Service was beyond excellent! Jeff was So friendly and informative. The presentation of the Seafood was pretty cool; and at that moment every minute took soooooo long; watching the food being prepped in front of you; but it wasn't ready yet lol. It's the kind of local spot that you'll see hella Koreans in; speaking their language; so to me; that's very homey if you understand. I got the plain kalgaksu, mainly because it included pork potstickers. The anchovy broth isn't fishy (which I was concerned about), it's deep and full in a way that's hard to describe. It penetrates the noodles and potatoes well. The broth is similar if not the same between most bowl types. The cold noodles were also delicious, which a couple of my friends ordered. Quite large portions, as just about everyone had to take some home. They also have bibimbap if you're craving a rice based meal instead. I can't wait to come back - maybe not on a Saturday night next time so I don't have to look so long for parking!

I thought the flavors were nice and the amount of meat was more than expected, which was nice. Would definitely be back! If you're searching for some of the city's best pork, then those in the know will bring up Ham Ji Park. For 2 decades, generous platters of pork ribs and pork neck stew decked every table. Now, our Korean friends lament the loss of their favorite pork joint in the city. The Koreatown proper location is located in the Royal Plaza mini-mall, just a few blocks off bustling Wilshire. Discounted parking is available in a lot across the street from the Chevron gas station. From the street, the entrance is flanked by potted plants and an enclosed street-ery. Inside, stainless steel chairs are pressed up against wooden tables, each outfitted with a metal grill. Oppressive fluorescent lighting shines down on the stone grey walls, which are left undecorated apart from a few flatscreens. Multi-lingual chatter blends with the sizzle of platters. I visited with some friends for a weeknight dinner, and about half of the tables were occupied. We shared a spread of grilled platters and sizzling soups. The meal began with a carafe of barley tea and a mostly standard spread of banchan. Across our food, the best dish was the signature Charbroiled Pork Spare Rib. The ribs were flavorful without feeling gamey, and the meat was complemented by sweet caramelized onions. The pork ribs handily outdid the good-not-great Charbroiled Beef Short Rib. Lastly, the Milt and Cod Rose with Vegetables stew was fishy and briny, appropriately flavored for the Korean palate. The service was appropriately attentive, although I would've appreciated more intentional refills of our banchan ramikens. The rib plates cost upward of $35 each, while the soup was just under $30. The portions were hearty; a single entree platter could reasonably feed 2 moderately hungry bellies. It's a shame to hear that Ham Ji Park has closed; I'm kicking myself for not trying their pork neck stew earlier.

UPDATE We initially left a five-star review because our experience started well. However, the service and managerial behavior that followed were unacceptable. 1. Kalguksu Delay: The Kalguksu, part of the set menu, was supposed to be served at the end of our meal. After the crew finished cooking, no server checked on our table for over 25-30 minutes. When we finally brought it to their attention, it was served undercooked and inedible. 2. Poor Service: The outdoor seating area was not busy, with only five tables and multiple servers. Despite this, our table was neglected while others who arrived later received prompt service. 3. Manager's False and Insulting Comments: The manager falsely claimed that we were "moving quickly with strollers" to avoid being caught for not tipping. This is entirely untrue and offensive. We walked home slowly, as we live just two minutes away, and did not rush or attempt to "escape." Making such baseless accusations is not only unprofessional but also highly insulting. 4. Manager's Lack of Accountability: Instead of addressing the issue, the manager stood outside observing and did nothing to assist. As a leader, it is their responsibility to intervene and resolve complaints, not ignore them. 5. Promotional Drinks Misrepresentation: The "complimentary" soju was part of a Yelp promotion, not an apology for poor service. Offering to remove the charge for a Diet Coke instead of directly addressing the issue felt dismissive and insincere. 6. Team Neglect: A server mentioned they weren't assigned to our section, but it is the team's responsibility to ensure all customers are cared for. The lack of communication and accountability led to a disappointing experience. 7. No Tip Justification: Tipping is a reflection of the service provided. Given the neglect, delays, and unprofessional behavior, a tip was not warranted. Suggesting we tried to "avoid being caught" for not tipping further illustrates a lack of understanding of what tipping represents. This was supposed to be a special end-of-year dinner but turned into a deeply disappointing experience. Adding insult to injury, the manager's false and rude comments about our behavior on our original review are unprofessional and unacceptable. Can't believe Burnin' Shell exists! For the price point and parking availability, it's a true hidden gem. The service is top-notch, with regular check-ins and a huge lot in the back shared with other businesses, making parking a breeze. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, with a cozy yet lively vibe that made it perfect for enjoying a delicious meal with friends or family. The service was exceptional--friendly, attentive, and well-organized. The staff made sure everything was prepared perfectly and even guided us through the grilling process, which added to the fun of the experience. As for the food, it was absolutely fantastic. The 조개구이 (grilled shellfish) was fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Each dish was carefully prepared, and the side dishes complemented the main items beautifully. I would give a zero star if I can! Our experience at Burnin Shell was disappointing overall. While the food itself was enjoyable, the shellfish portions were extremely small. The prefix menu includes side dishes that may help fill you up, but it felt like more of a filler than the main focus of the meal. The real issue, however, was the lack of proper customer service and the unprofessional behavior of the manager. The Spicy Cold Noodles at Burnin' Shell are the best I've ever had. The noodles are served cold, which is a little unusual, but that makes them refreshing on a hot day. Recently, I had the pleasure of dining at a local korean seafood restaurant that specializes in seafood boils korean style. From start to finish, the experience was fantastic. Upon arriving at the restaurant, I was immediately struck by the lively atmosphere. The decor was modern and colorful, where the chefs were busy preparing fresh seafood. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and my table was quickly prepared. For my main course, I opted for the option c seafood boil, which consisted of a generous portion of shrimp, clams, and mussels, and eels much more. The seafood was incredibly fresh and perfectly cooked - the shrimp were plump and juicy, the clams oysters and abalone were fresh and soo lively. First time at Burnin' Shell and it far exceeded all my expectations! Sean was our server and he was attentive, knowledgeable and overall super friendly. He stayed with us throughout the meal, cooking and serving us the different seafood. Not sure if that's the norm but rather if it was because it was our first time. The food itself was marinated and cooked perfectly - extremely fresh and delicious. They even offer to cook the food on gas (indoors) or charcoal (outdoors). We chose outdoors, highly recommend the latter. The variety of seafood they offer is very reasonable for the price and their prefix menus include a bunch of equally great sides. First time trying Korean seafood bbq, must say that it was truly unique. Servers were great explaining the menu and telling us when clams were ready to eat. They had 2 different sauces for dipping. We ordered combo d which came with live octopus. First time trying live octopus was moving around so much. We also tried the sea eel which was so good! They recommended eating the sea eel with sesame leaves topped with garlic,onion,and jalapeños with a soybean paste. I must say the sea eel was the highlight for us. I will definitely be back!
