Ringing Endorsement for Burr Trail Grill! OUR FAILURE TO GET FOOD AT THE 'OTHER RESTAURANT': Our group of five arrived in Escalante on a hot afternoon after a long drive down the mountain. We were very hungry and ready to refuel. We went to ANOTHER RESTAURANT. It took a bit to get seated, and then we waited... for anyone inside to come out and make contact. My hubby tried unsuccessfully to find someone to get us menus. But after 35-minutes of waiting, we left our table and drove away. At this point, we were starving and considered just stopping at Subway. OUR BAD LUCK ENDS: Ultimately, we chose to drive 37-minutes to Boulder to try out the Burr Trail Grill. And that's why I gave the OTHER RESTAURANT a 2-star review. As a thank you for ignoring us, because we went to Burr Trail Grill and had the BEST meal of our entire trip. GREAT WAIT STAFF WITH GREAT SERVICE: We were seated within seconds of walking in the door and immediately given menus and water. After a quick perusal, we went to the desk and ordered, and after 20-minutes, five meals appeared at the table... fresh, warm, and perfect. (We even went back again the next day for lunch.) FAVORITES DISHES: My hubby and Mother-In-Law (MIL) are snobbish about their Reuben sandwiches, but both agreed this is their favorite they've ever had. I could easily eat their fried green tomatoes weekly for the rest of my life... so amazing. The flavors were divine. My niece/nephew tried the French Dip and loved it. How in the world does that bun stay crispy, even when dipping? The next day we tried the wings! (How can something be so perfectly sweet and spicy at the same time?) I tried the lamb burger which had a mild lamb taste and was very juicy and yummy paired with the cheese crumbles and cucumber ribbons. DESSERTS: Apple pie was delightful. Chocolate whiskey pie was AMAZING. The next day we tried Cherry and Peach, along with another chocolate. We rated the pies in this order: Apple and chocolate whiskey were tied for best. Next up was the cherry, and last was the peach, though none of us would complain about eating any of them. We were craving food from there the next day after we got home. Guaranteed we'll stop at this spot every time we are in the area. TWO THINGS TO NOTE: The menus listed on Yelp are outdated. The prices during our visit were actually LOWER, and they offer less food choices, possibly due to Covid. Also, if you Google Burr Trail Grill, the hours of operation are different than what's listed. They have weekday and weekend hours. The food options in this area of UT are limited, and if here again I would choose to return to the burr trail grill. The hamburger meat was very tasty and the aioli was very good. I liked the seasoning on the potato wedges but I am not sure how fresh they were. They were a little tough on the outside. I am told their pies are amazing and next time I would definitely try those out. Over all I liked but didn't love the food. Compared to some other options in this area, this was a win. read more

I have to admit that I've driven by this place every time I've been through Boulder, without stopping. What a huge mistake! We finally stopped in for dinner the other night. A treasure off the beaten path! Came across this place travelling from Grande Escalante to Canyonlands, making a stop at the Anasazi museum about a quarter mile away. Restaurant was packed, and not just because it's the only dining option for miles. Food was amazing and totally worth the wait! Had the French Dip and berry-ginger hand pie. The Dip was hands-down the best I've ever had. Au jus was delicious, a rich beef broth with onion. Hand pie served with a side of whipped cream. Still thinking about this super "foodie" dining experience long after my visit. Would highly recommend! read more

We took the scenic drive from Zion National Park to Moab and found this gem along the way! I got the tofu burger and my partner had the country chicken -- Seriously some of the best food we've had in along time. Everything was amazing! That was the best burger I've ever had. And it was lamb! Where else can you even get that? Big, juicy and full of flavor. I liked their unique soda selection too. Their pie was delicious. It's worth saving room for. Our server was friendly and helpful. This place is the complete package. The only thing is that it's a little place by the side of the road. It's nothing fancy, but don't let appearances deceive you. It's fabulous and completely worth stopping for. As a girl who's been lucky enough to visit 7 different countries and various US states, I've eaten at many different places. This is a must if you're in the area. Run, don't walk to it. Next door restaurant was still closed for the season so I came here. Loved this place ! I appreciated having them serve fish in the middle of a small town in the 6K feet elevation. The trout was perfectly done. The rice and beans were hidden but it turned out to be adequate. I also ordered a scoop of local ice cream for $2 and i regretted I had have ordered 2 scoops! Will be back here again someday. It's hundreds of miles away from home ! I promise. Didn't have any pics coz my phone was running out of memory lol. read more

Highway 12 is one of the most amazing roads in existence. If you love to drive, you owe this to yourself. On a motorcycle, pure heaven. And after all this heaven, and walking around the state park/museum/archeological site in tiny Boulder Utah, there is this wonderful place to sit and eat and relax and wonder why all of life isn't this great. There's a lot to absorb and enjoy here. Service is very friendly. I had possibly the largest Reuben sandwhich in the world, with home made bread and sauerkraut, and truly astonishing Cole slaw. Now you could argue that it wasn't absolutely the best Reuben in existence, but that's not the point. This is an experience worth having. These are the days that must happen to you. read more

So in such a small town, you wouldn't expect such a GREAT tasting restaurant. PROS: Hands down, you won't go wrong with any of the food (just as the waitress put it) "everything is good" and it's true. We ordered the: - Risotto Cakes, DELICIOUS - Roasted Cauliflower, QUITE GOOD - Trout, AMAZING, BUT... they serve too little rice, we had to order another side of it. - lamb burger- it's good, but it does have a strong taste. You need to like lamb (for example my wife had none of it) Waitresses are really friendly and down to earth. CONS: If you go in th summer, you're going to die of heat. This place is amazing. Don't pass up. Dr Mrs Skwrl got the French dip sandwich, and as much as I absolutely love my burger I would have got that. But both are amazing. The fries are killer. We hike near Escalante often and a proven place to get excellent food and service is the Burr Trail Grill. I would rate their Red Rock Burger one of the best in the state, if not THE best. My friend loves their Lamb Burger and says it is second to none. Also be sure to get the Fried Green Tomatoes for the appetizer - fantastic. Their Country Chicken and BTG burger are also excellent. We also appreciate how welcoming they are and their great and quick service, even during these challenging times with the pandemic. Trust me, some places use that as an excuse for poor service and food quality, but while there are some subtle changes and modifications, Burr Trail continues to outperform. I would recommend them anytime! read more

Nice little restaurant in Boulder, very relaxing atmosphere after a day of outdoor activities. The fried green tomatoes with chili jam and the chipotle aioli was delicious. The burgers are juicy and flavorful, especially the lamb burger is a must try if you are a lamb person. Their homemade apple pie with light flaky crust was very good, having it warmed up and ala mode with the vanilla ice cream made in house made it even better. This is definitely a restaurant I will visit again when I'm in Boulder. read more

Traveling from San Diego, CA and stopped here for lunch while out riding our motorcycles on the beautiful Utah roads. Ordered the Trout entree and Tofu sandwich. The trout was cooked perfectly and the jalapeño rice and red peppers serviced with the trout were delicious. The tofu sandwich was fried (our first time having fried tofu, uh amazing) and it came with a delicious aioli sauce and thick homemade fries. Honestly one of our best meals of the trip. I visited Burr Trail Grill for dinner while driving from Capitol Reef National Park to Bryce Canyon National Park. The burgers were highly recommended by our server so I ordered the Forager Burger. What a great place to eat. We liked our BTG burgers and potato logs so much that we came back again when visiting The Anasazi State Park Museum. Second time aroun we had the lamb burger and the trout. Again, fabulous. They also have a great selection of beer and pie. I am not a fan of fried pie turnover pockets but this ginger-berry was great. I also had the whiskey chocolate which resembles a moose and it is unique and extraordinary. Just do it! After hiking most of the day, we made the longish drive east to Boulder, Utah to seek out Burr Trail Grill, having heard good things from locals...and Yelp. (It turned out the drive there on Rte 12 was absolutely gorgeous, so the extra time was well spent). In short: We discovered fantastic food in a lovely setting, and with a small town atmosphere. We arrived 30 minutes before closing time, but the staff were friendly and welcoming. And we proceeded to have the best meal of the entire trip. Standouts were...well, everything. We started with apps, which were sublime. The fried cauliflower (tossed w cornmeal) and the fried green tomatoes were fresh and perfectly prepared. (Plates were scraped clean). For an entree I had the trout filet with serrano-pumpkin rice and roasted bell peppers. Others had: the lamb burger, the fried chicken sandwich and a special of the day (sorry - I have forgotten what it was). But everyone raved about their meals. And of course I have to give my usual shoutout to the beer list, which was short but excellent, including some local beers I hadn't yet encountered. (I was driving, so I chose a single, low-ABV pale ale). The final chapter in this tale of deliciousness was the homemade pie, which I had spotted on the counter when we entered (and then mentally made room for). One was a berry pie; the other was a a cherry pie with a touch of cayenne; I chose one slice of the the latter and it was one of the best pieces of pie I've ever had, with a substantial, flaky and buttery crust. The filling was superb, with only a hint of heat. (I would consider making the drive just for this pie.) A delicious cup of coffee was the counterpoint, and this was also quite helpful for the long drive back in the dark to our rental house. read more

I'm very picky about Reuben sandwiches and wasn't sure it would live up the very friendly waitress/owner's sister's recommendation. It was DELICIOUS! I ate every bite. The coke slaw was great. I love this place so much and eat here every chance I get. I am through Boulder, UT several times a year either on personal trips or teaching backpacking courses. It's always a highlight of the trip to stop here for lunch before heading home to Salt Lake City. The chocolate whiskey pie is incredible, the salad with fried capers is amazing, and the french dip, and the fried chicken with mashed potatoes, are both excellent. One of the best restaurants (few and far between) when we visited Utah for a Parks visit. This was such pleasant surprise. Right when we walked in we were greeted by delicious looking pies on the counter. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Some highlights: the chipotle fried green tomatoes, tasty local beers and cherry ginger pie. We ordered the pie a la mode and it was the perfect slice to share. The restaurant was playing great trendy music. I know that is a little odd to add but it was just great vibe. You can tell there were a lot of "regulars" having a late lunch. We highly recommend BTG. The BTG staff warmly welcomed us even though we turned up at 8:30 and the restaurant was empty. We had: the Lamb Burger, the Braised Pork (2), and the Country Chicken. Both the chicken and burger were good, but the pork and it's sides were a little too peppery. Still, we were happy to have been able to stop by; the server was very nice and we enjoyed eating outside on the patio. I had the Ruben- I always get the Ruben if offered on the menu. This was the best I've had since 1990s. The special RedRock Burger got rave reviews from my husband and son.
