Burwood is great and I would suggest it for a weeknight where you want to have casual drinks with friends or get some pool going. I made my first visit far too late considering I live very close Pros: Cheap (if you like Rolling Rock, Bud or PBR), Good cozy atmosphere (two nice bars), Free Pool (because it is broken), Good Service, Free popcorn, "buffet" during the week. The buffet is two hot dishes of fair to poor quality. Noodle dishes are popular and not for me, but I still end up eating it. I love coming to this place... But more so than the bar, I love love love Debbie and Amanda! They work on the "off hours" but that's cool with me because Friday and Saturday night this place gives me anxiety, too many Lincoln park wannabes... But Sundays are my favorite day... Debbie during the day giving me advice on everything from what color I paint my nails to what major life decision I should make... And at night I have sweet Amanda putting a smile on my face. Used to come here when we lived in Lincoln Park. I still like the bar itself, perfect in the winter. A quintessential neighborhood tavern and the people are tolerable most of the time. Free popcorn. Pool table. Plenty of space. The music sucks in my opinion. But not a bad place to watch a game, although one time I asked the bartender if I could get audio on one of the games since there wasn't really anyone else in the bar at the time and could not because there was no way to turn the jukebox music off, which was really annoying. read more

I don't think this place has anything that you can't find anywhere else in the city. The bartenders did a good job and were friendly but the crowd here around 11:30/midnight is completely unbearable. Later on, when the crowd died down and you could actually spread out a little bit, it was a lot more fun. Honestly though, no reason to go out of your way for this one. If I lived a couple blocks a way, I might be back not on a weekend night but I'm not dying to go back here by any means. I dislike going to bars when everyone else does. Perhaps its because I live in LP and have no interest in the Fri/Sat bar scene in my hood, or perhaps its just because I'm getting older... My review is based on the pre- 10pm bar scene on weekday nights. - haha that sounds hilarious doesn't it. I like the Burwood - the early (before 7) bartenders are nice, and have been working at the bar before "they got corporate and started caring only about money" (this was a long winded conversation I had with 2 of these bartenders over free shots on afternoon) They have cheap drinks, free popcorn, and free food between 8-10. Granted, as I'm paying my tab I can see the douchebags start to trickle in, but I think you just gotta know when to scoop this place at the right time. I usually stop in around 5, stay for a few hours - and leave before 9. During this time - young single dudes roll in - construction workers, local retirees, you name it. I usually just plop down at the bar by myself - and see what happens next. Hit it up before 9 or 10 with a few friends and you will have fun....after that - the madness is upon you - and then its time for a burrito from next door. read more

Came here for a farewell gathering in what I thought would be the first stop of many bars, but it ended up being the only bar we went to for the evening. Good service - they kept serving us popcorn - and a good array of drinks, the place grew on me... as I kept drinking my Johnny Walker Blacks. We love Burwood! I had my birthday here in November and it was a blast. Everyone had a great time and the drink package was cheap! We were able to reserve the middle bar area which was the perfect size for our group. Last month I had my going away party here (so many good memories!). Again I reserved the middle bar and did the drink package. This time around the bar manager (?) approached me and said she needed my credit card. I asked her what for? She said that if at least ten people didn't do the package that I would have to pay for it. I told her last time I hadn't needed to give my card and I had over 30 people show up so I wasn't worried about this party either. She gave me a bit of attitude and said it was policy. I handed over my card which ended up not being charged because more than 20 people did the package which I told her would be the case anyway. I dropped the stars because I put off by her attitude and had never met her before despite the fact this was the second party I was having there, they sponsored our kickball team and we often went there for snickers and giggles. Might want to be a bit warmer to customers in the future... read more

I'm a big fan of Burwood Tap. I lived about a block away for a couple of years, and the patrons and staff here are really good people. The best time to go is around 9PM on a weekday. On weekends, the place gathers the typical frat boys. But on weekdays, it's different. They generally have a free buffet every night of edible, if not greasy, food. Chicken wings and meatballs I believe, and some celery. There is always free popcorn. The drinks are good, they're cheap, and the place is just fun. I always managed to get extremely drunk there. They definitely get their share of regulars, but all the ones I got to know were rock solid people. So yeah, it took me a while to warm up to Burwood Tap, but by the time I left Chicago, it was one of my favorite bars. Now, I look back on it extremely fondly, there need to be more Burwood Taps in America. read more

Probably my favorite bar in Chicago. The waitresses and bar tenders are sexy, drinks are cheap, free popcorn, and pool. What more could you want? haha. I am a regular Wednesday night trivia night goer (although I have never won which is upsetting), and its always open till 3 am on Saturdays so if I don't go there for the night I tend to end up there when everything else closes. I like this place. Went there on my birthday, and they put up with my drunk-ass shenanigans. The waitress (it was her first night working there!!) was also great; she kept coming back to our table, checking up on us. And when I asked for a red wine with coke, the bartender didn't just look at me weird like everyone else does when I order that drink- she actually made it for me, and then asked for a taste and said it was awesome. I can't comment on the drink prices here though... didn't have to buy any that night. But I'm guessing they're relatively cheap. read more

We stopped in here for a drink before we went to Kingston Mines around the corner. It was pretty packed (it was a Saturday evening, and the Blackhawks game was on). They have a nice selection of drinkage, friendly bartenders, billiards, and popcorn. There isn't a lot of seating, but if you are ok with standing then you won't mind this place. I would definitely come back. Nice, lively crowd but not rowdy. A down-to-earth place! read more

This establishment will be met with consequences for what happened late last night. I had a bartender spray disinfectant spray into my boyfriend and I faces. This happened after a comment was made to this bartender. I don't know about you but under no circumstances is this ever okay to do to a CUSTOMER. after this happened I ended up with a bloody nose and scratches on my face. I have filed a police report and I will make sure that whoever was working last night will pay for the consequences that occurred. Sickening. Whoever works there should be ashamed that something like this happened. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!!! This place sucks. What a fucking shit hole. And the arrogant IQ-less-than-40 pricks on staff are they types that give Chicagoans a bad name. I tried to give it ZERO stars, but I couldn't. The 'bouncer' has an authority complex(I think he just felt like an idiot because he couldn't figure out that my friend, who was born in 1978, was over 21 - get a calculator if you must, you fucking idiot)! The guy that was tending bar is a fucking tool, and the place smells like rotten a**. Good luck getting served at the bar - though it appeared that the bartender's friends were having no trouble getting served - and for free! I just can't get over how rude the staff is here. Do they only want locals in there? I don't live in Lincoln Park, but I do live in the city, and this is the most unwelcome I've felt anywhere. Oh, and if you have to use the men's room, you'd better hope that there's not a private party renting out the back room, because the assholes will try to charge you $30 to go in to take a leak. So I actually love this bar!! Or I use to love this bar. Close to home and great laid back atmosphere to go and relax if you get there early. I have been several times and never had an issue with anything there! My friends love this bar for the free popcorn and we can always get a table to hang out after work! Unfortunately they have the worst customer service I have witnessed in a long time. Unprofessional is the only word to describe their behavior while representing the bar that claims to wave if you can't stop in. Long story short I had an issue with my Tab and the bartender assumed and wrongfully accused me because my credit card was declined in the moment.I also saw two reviews of other customers who has similar experiences to mine about being accused of skipping out on a tab....but when you ask the bartenders for a receipt of the tab they cannot present you with a physical copy of your receipt. The woman proceeded to leave the bar and tell every bartender to not serve me and my friend and then had the bouncer kick us out over 20 dollars that she had no proof that I even owed that. When I asked to talk to the manager they let me back in and he didn't even leave behind the bar to come and speak with me. He did NOT care about my situation and basically just wanted to write me off and shut me up! I am appalled with the way I was treated especially when I was willing to pay the money if my tab was in fact CORRECT!!!!!!!!!! They also refused to serve my friend who had nothing to do with my situation and turning away another customer. When dealing with customers who are willing to speak to you in a rationalizing manner just a word of advice to not write them off because you end up with reviews such as this one. I went from being a frequent customer to making sure everyone knows my experience. Experiences shape reputation and the people you have representing your business are the key part to success, they might want to rethink their staff. This staff has a major ATTITDUE problem and does not find it necessary to deal with a customer issue. This situation could have been handled much differently and would have had a better outcome in the end. read more

I used to love this place...until they recently tried to scam me out of money. I'd left a jacket there a few months back (St. Patrick's Day weekend, 2013). When I went to retrieve it, I was told that I'd skipped out on a $70 bar tab and that someone else paid it for me (who just so happened to conveniently be at the bar at the time). I was shown a $30 receipt I'd signed for and told that I skipped out on another $70 (how this happened, I'll never know). Before I could even react, I was given the worst attitude about it. I felt really bad, so I insisted that I pay the guy back. Before I went to get the money for him, I double checked my bank statement. Not only did I pay the $30 tab they showed me, I'd also paid the $72 tab they accused me of skipping out on PLUS another $20 tab I didn't even know about...all on the same day (I have a copy of said statement if anyone cares to question what I've said here). Three tabs in one sitting? Sounds like a pretty shady deal to me. I will NEVER step foot in this establishment again. If ripping off their customers is what they're all about (whether knowingly or not), I'll pass. There are much nicer (and cheaper) options in the neighborhood. Went to this bar for a friend's party. The drinks were unfortunately horribly made. I got one from the bar in the back, and one from the bar in the front, hoping that one of the bartenders would be able to make a good mixed drink. Disappointed on both trips. On top of the poor drinks, the bartender in the back was rude which was completely unnecessary. I would not recommend this subpar bar in an otherwise great neighborhood. read more

The Burwood Tap is a great little neighborhood bar on Wrightwood in the heart of Lincoln Park. I live a block away and it's fun to stop in here during the week and have one of their awesome beers on tap. They usually have Bell's (which I love!) or else a good Ale. The bar is small, cozy and lively. It attracts the usual Lincoln Park crowd. read more
