Gross! Too bad they only had one napkin left in the dispenser because I could've used a couple extra to blot off the tablespoon of excess grease on my mushroom pesto pizza. The concept of this pizza parlor is a bit unappetizing - topping(s) of your choice dumped on a sitting pizza and reheated. In my case, the mushrooms weren't cooked into the cheese as I'd like but were instead, uncooked and glued together by some clumps of melted mozzarella. There was a thin layer of tomato sauce used for cooking the basic slice, and the pesto slathered on top didn't taste too great + the majority of the 'pesto' was oil. I went in to pass the time waiting for the 24, it was near midnight and I was hungry, mistake!! This is a review by a vegetarian I think I made the mistake of eating here while sober. It's $2.50+tax for a large mediocre slice. The crust is neither crispy nor chewy. The sauce is flat with neither saltiness nor acidity. Could barely notice the existense of the cheese. It wasn't offensive but it is not very good. I'm going to join the herd and give this three stars. I am from New York (where pizza is great) and lived in Seattle (where pizza is, at best, variable- Pagliacci's is good, but NY pizza and gourmet kalamata-goat cheese-pesto slices are two different animals entirely) for a long time, so I will accept a wide variety of different pizza types. That said, the biggest advantage to Bus Stop is its location: across the street from my house. Their veggie slice is $3.50 and is loaded up with non-sauteed, non-canned mushrooms, black olives, peppers and onions. It is perfectly fine and functions as a meal substitute for me once a week, but it is NOTHING, NOTHING like New York pizza. It tastes more like Chicago pizza to me, because the crust is kind of buttery. Otherwise, the store has various shady-looking salads and canned and bottled sodas. What I do like about the place is that I invariably end up getting into conversations with Divisidero denizens while waiting the ridiculously long-seeming 10min it takes to heat up a single slice. I have discussed the popularity of the World Cup, the fog, the election in Mexico and What To Do About the Homeless while waiting here. Your other option is sitting and reading the Guardian. Overall, if you live across the street, or are drunk, this place will suit your needs. Otherwise, elsewhere is probably a better bet. read more

This place has become my go-to for pizza. The 'Bus Stop Special" is always soo good. love to get a slice, take it home and open a bottle of wine. Makes for a perfect night with Netflix. The owner is always so nice, and really knows how to make that crust CRISPY. Easy, fast and cheap! Even if you have to take it home and eat it much later, it reheats perfectly in the oven. read more

I was on the south end of Divisadero the other night when I realized that I'd not eaten dinner yet. Seeing how I'd been drinking some, I thought it might be a good idea. Ordered a plain pie from here once with a friend and was pretty disappointed. It actually reminded me a little bit of cafeteria pizza (yikes!). Crust was a tough doughy and sauce didn't have much flavor. I ate a few slices because I was starving but didn't enjoy it much. I really should hate this place. I grew up in NY, and thus know what a quality slice of pizza consists of. Bus Stop Pizza, as you can probably infer by the name, isn't the highest quality pizza joint in town. These are (technically) NY slices since they're built to the right proportions (I can't tell you how many times I've been dissapointed to open an SF pizza box to find a slice that's smaller than my face). And these are the staple ingredients of pizza, but the taste is off. Separately, the (pass the) tarty sauce, flour-caked crust, and milky cheese are pretty narsty, but it all comes together in a way that makes me come back to Bus Stop anytime I want a quick slice. I've only lived in the city for about a year now, but I've always loved pizza, and I really miss my pizza place back home. I've been looking for a place in walking distance (i live close to the painted ladies), so far this place has been the best. The slices are big, fairly priced, and consistently good. I almost always get my slices togo, but the one time I did eat there I noticed the sun can get really brutal in the afternoon. Great little pizza counter if your in the mood for a slice. Their meat pizza, called "Combo" is wicked, and the veggie one is good as well. The original owners are still there and cranking out the BEST New York style pizza west of New York. Their sauce is authentic and their crispy thin crust is perfectly done. To the Millennials and hipster kids: so the place isn't paneled with reclaimed beach wood or whatever..you want a good slice of pizza? THIS is where you go. When I lived at Fell and Divisadero they pretty much were at my house with dinner 2-3 times a week (I was a bike messenger, so I could inhale calories like nobody's business). They got to know me and even would stop and pick me up a deck of smokes if I asked them. They were family and treated me as such. SF has changed so much, some of it good, some of it not, but Bus Stop harkens back to before the middle class couldn't live in The City. Good people, good pizza. This was the place I went to for a slice when I first signed the lease to my current apartment, so it has some tender memories for me. I always order by the slice from this two table, 6 stool pizza stand. The prices are great. Don't expect an instant slice when you walk in. They have slices that are partially made, then they had whatever you order, throw some cheese on top then throw it in the oven so your slice is fresh and yummy! The slices are large, the cheese stringy and crust has that perfect blend of crisp-ness. I gave it three stars instead of 4 because I never order a pie from them. Only slices. I have been going to this place for over 15 years. At one point a high school friend actually owned this place. While it has gone through numerous owners over the years, their pizza is amazingly consistent. I look at Bus Stop this way, it is a place which if I was thinking going out for sit down pizza, I would still consider having BusStop pizza even though it is a hole in the wall slices only place. I have had Arinells over in Berkley and prefer Bus Stop. I think it is the mild, not too overpowering sauce, and the cheese which has that just oh-so right amount of almost coagilated oil on top of slightly browned cheese. First time experience. I tried this place when my girlfriend and I stayed at Metro Hotel. Being somewhat lazy, we didn't really want to go somewhere at the late hour it was. So we decided to stop in to grab a few slices to take back to our hotel. Grabbing a slice is as fast as grabbing a pizza at Little Caesars. Slices are just about ready to go, all you have to do is tell them what toppings you want and then they pop it in the oven. Slices are generous. The pizza falls somewhere in the average range. It's fast and convenient when you don't want to fight the night crowd at Ragazza. Or when you don't want to drive down the road to Castro to hit Marcello's. Bus Stop is a very tiny place. Barely enough seating area. You're better off just to take it and leave. The couple that run this place are friendly. When you want to grab a soda, there is also a convenient store just adjacent from Bust Stop pizza. Careful... There are some nights that if they're slow, they might close early. The business that have been in the area since the 80s have been denied the access to better customer flow into there establishment. This pizzaria is good for a quick slice and a whole pie. Whole pie is better to get yhe best experience. This place gets a give star from me cause it had been a place that I have gone to for a quick slice for some time. If your a native of this area then you appreciate this place to the fullest. Everyone use to come here from the youth to adults. Its run by an Asian male and his east asian wife who have a passion for pizza. Dont be fooled by the outside appearance this pizza place does the best with love. I would say the owner would need to speak with the existing customers more and claim the yelp site. This place could be a location that is more popular due to the location. I have a feeling it might be that it lacks flavor to some degree. Escape and That's Amore seem to have more flavor/kick. i got a slice of pizza waiting for the bus. it was one of those sna francisco afternoons where the temp drops 20 degrees and you're wearing a t-shirt. it's not that bad, but eating a nice hot slice of cheese pizza with garlic salt, red pepper, and parmesan sure beats being a little chilly. the best $2 i've ever spent! i can't wait to go back and spend more, the pizza is actually really good, starting with the soft crust and good tomato sauce. friendly staff too, and a warm dining room!!!! read more
