I'm not sure about their other locations but this one doesn't impress. We live nearby and have eaten here a few times and I think we're slowly learning to go elsewhere. While the food is generally good and the staff is usually friendly, there are some issues: The prices are high. For example, a burger is about $15 and it comes with no sides. Add fries and you're looking at $20. If you order online and specify a future time for the order to be ready, don't be surprised if they make it right away and it sits waiting for you to pick it up. If I place the order at 4pm and specify that I want it ready at 5pm, I don't want the order ready at 4:15pm because then it just sits and gets cold and soggy. They've also missed parts of my order before. When I emailed them about it, using the email address they provide on the electronic receipt, I got an automated text back offering me $5 off my next purchase. OK, but what about reimbursing me for the missing food? It feels like they're trying too hard to look good without actually trying to do better. read more

We order from Brushfire almost on a weekly basis since it's close by. They use quality ingredients and their sauces are outstanding. My go to is the salmon bowl with veggies, an empanada for my 1 year old, and the curry chicken bowl for my husband. We always get a side (or two) of sweet potato fries, which are larger cut and seasoned. The aioli dipping sauce it comes with is delicious. Service is quick and I love the online ordering capability. What happened to this place? Not sure what happened to the staff but when I entered what was once a friendly restaurant on Thursday night, I was completely ignored. The person at the register refused to make eye contact as I was waiting at the counter. A simple "I'll be with you in a moment" would have been sufficient. I was there for about 5 mins waiting awkwardly for her to acknowledge me. She was staring off into the distance the entire time. Then she started walking away from me, so I spoke up and asked her if there was someone here who could help me. She acted as though I appeared out of nowhere then said oh ok, how can I help you? Keep in mind no one else was in line the entire time. Should we as customers accept such blatant disregard for common courtesy at a restaurant? read more

I just ordered the chicken bowl with veggies & brown rice. Horrible tasting food. It has absolutely no flavor... The Peri Peri sauce taste like straight vinegar! I am surprised & disappointed. Portions portions portions! Omg they basically gave me a whole chicken you can see in the pic, that it is one big piece of chicken breast. I've been to Bushfire before years ago and I'm glad we came again. We use to live so close by and now I'm upset we don't because I'd be here for everyday The menu is very straight forward, kind of like tender greens honestly. No i did not get a salad that would be a sin! I just went with the chicken and my sides were grilled veggies and mashed potatoes of course I'll include photos of what my friends got. Sadly i don't remember what it was, looked good and they ate everything. So glad to see so much outside seating! It was a bit chilly but the food was hot and fresh so i didn't mind the cold weather. One thing did stand out to me and it was the disposable plates but, they gave normal silverware? Not sure what that was about. Seems like other restaurants are back to using their standard plates but whatevs. My friend ordered the chocolate chip cookie and sadly i didn't get to try it because ( self control ) I did however get a beef empanada and I'd have to give it a 3/5 it was good but I've had better ‍ also there were sweet potatoes fries ordered and if you follow me...i don't like sweet potatoes fries so i ain't gonna touch on that lol read more

My wife and I see Bushfire every time we go to the Petco that's nearby. Yesterday we made our first stop there at 3:30, here's our experience. 1) atmosphere was good/comfortable 2) my wife ordered the Tuscan chicken sandwich 3) I ordered a chicken empanada and the grilled sweet potatoes -- The sandwich was marginal almost deli-like and it made us wonder how long the chicken had been around since it was merely lukewarm. I'd give it a 3 out of 10. -- The empanada was room temp and was dominated by a doughy pastry texture and flavor. 2 out of 10. -- the grilled sweet potatoes with agave were honestly not good. Tough, spongey and the visual side was that of 3 hours old and not fresh. 0 out of 10. -- There were several staff members most of whom didn't appear interested in maintaining the table area (our table was sticky) or the quality of the food. I wanted this to be a good experience but am challenged to ever go back. read more

Bushfire is my go-to when I'm craving something healthy and hearty. Inside is very casual and it's an order at the counter kind of deal. Minus one star because over the years of ordering takeout, it hasn't always been great. To-go food seems older, less fresh, and smaller portions. I got the salmon bowl to-go today and the salmon is small, grey in the middle, and cooked to death even though I ordered medium rare. Rice tastes hard and old. I got the same thing and dined in recently and it was a larger portion of salmon and much fresher. I think some extra love needs to be put into to-go orders. Still love this place! read more

The restaurant was very clean and spacious. Servers were very courteous. We had empanadas. Loved the beef empanadas with chimichurri. I had a hamburger and my husband had a sandwich. Our food was absolutely terrible, steak was soo chewy it was gross. The chicken was small and undercooked and we tipped before receiving the food... which we wouldn't have after receiving our food. Takeout order was 20min late. The $5 side of cauliflower had 2 pieces inside (see picture). The avocado on the salad was brown and bruised and old looking. The small container of salad dressing is not enough to cover the salad. The sandwich bread was kinda weird and mushy and portions were off: too much humus and barely anything else. The service form the female cashier was absolutely outstanding. The chef eh not welcoming at all. No smiles no hello how are you no nothing from this guy. OK. The food: the food portions are absolutely ridiculous for the price you pay. At least be expensive but make sure customers are happy with the food portions and flavor. ( im petite 135 lbs and i love to eat). I got the quinoa power salad with trip tip added. The dressing didn't taste good so it made my little $19.00 salad taste not so good but I had to eat it. It's been a long time since I've been impressed with food, service, atmosphere, etc. Bushfire... WOW!!!! My daughter and I live in Eastlake - Chula Vista and were up here for the day. She found this restaurant for us to eat at. I have Celiac Disease and get anxious before eating food that's labeled "GF" and me und up in pain. The minute I walked through the door I felt so confident to eat here. I ordered the Gaucho Steak Sandwich, DELICIOUS! But let me tell you... their GF roll tastes like a focaccia bread. I came in to meet some girlfriends on Monday Labor Day. I ordered the Tri-tip prime rib plate with curry cauliflower and baked sweet potato and a side of focaccia bread. It was so flavorful! If you are in the La Costa area and looking for lunch, they have great lunch options. The concept of ordering food though was a little different for me since usually you are ordering where you have the menu in front of you?!? When you walk in, you see the menu of what to order, then you have to memorize what you want because when you're ready to order you need to go to the end of the long counter.... by then I had to pick a paper menu to make sure that I give them the right order of what I wanted since you can have different choices of making your meal. I picked the salmon bowl with brown rice and grilled veggies. It was pretty tasty. Salmon was on the small portion and heavily crusted. You can see what I mean by my picture. A little less rice and more salmon would've been perfect for me. The grilled veggies were just right. Overall a good lunch meal and looking forward to come back to try their Happy Hour. read more

Just one meal from Bushfire Kitchen, and it now tops my list of favorite restaurants! A friend was visiting--I'm vegetarian, she's not--so I asked a foodie neighbor for recommendations of restaurants close to home that offer veggie and non-veggie options. Following my trusted neighbor's recommendation, my friend and I went here. Immediately upon walking in, I noticed several colorful and enticing pre-cooked veggie dishes arrayed behind the glass. I opted for the quinoa veggie burger with sweet potato fries on the side. My friend ordered the Tri-Trip Bowl and a beef empanada. We also ordered a lemon cookie to share for dessert. My meal was perfection. I take my friend's word for it that hers was too. The portions are generous, prices are reasonable, the servers are helpful and friendly, and other people who I talked with who have been here many times have said EVERYTHING here is delicious. I ordered take-out at 7pm and waited in restaurant for my order. The Tri-Tip was not warm, dry, and chewy. I couldn't eat it. I received very small mashed potatoes (about 4 bites) and paid an extra $1.50+ for a salad. The bowls, for $5.00 less, are bigger than the "plates". Nothing in the entire meal tasted fresh, nor did anything look fresh when I walked into the restaurant. Perhaps the chicken is better, but this is the worst meal I have had in a while, and I am going to have to join my sons opinion that we will never eat there again, as the quality of the food has gone downhill dramatically. read more

One of my favorite places in the area. It can be a bit pricey but we've never been disappointed with the food or service. My favorite is the braised short rib. I get it every time I go and it's always cooked just right. The flavors are amazing and the meat just falls apart. They also have the Best sweet potato fries. They're so crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The food is filling, fresh and we always feel good afterwards. The atmosphere is comfortable and they have a decent amount of outdoor seating. GREAT menu choices made it difficult for me, but I ordered the Braised Angus Beef brisket with curry cauliflower and mashed potatoes. Y.U.M. Loved it! I got a veggie empanada but I didn't care for it. Skip it and get Mac n cheese or grilled veggies. Line moves fast so take in the menu before you get to the counter! Like many places that have been open for a while, the quality of food has gone way down in the last couple of years - yet the prices have gone up. Portions are tiny. Burger was dry, overcooked, and flavorless. Salmon portion small and, again, overcooked and flavorless. However, my son enjoyed his empanada and tiny side of mac and cheese. As far as service, the staff was nice and as helpful as they could be. The ambiance could be nice, but the tables were sticky and had hair on them. Benches were ripped. Overall, I would suggest skipping Bushfire unless they improve the food quality and portion sizes. read more
