Extra skin from one I kept on the normal top skin.

The ground chicken was okay but the thighs have an excessive amount of very thick skin. They leave on an entire flap that covers the underside of the thigh. You basically get three thighs for the price of 4 or 5 elsewhere

BRD has the best meat in the south bay . Every week we stock up on steaks ground beef or bison and organs. We also like their bacon chicken and ox tail. I was introduced to BRD last Nov at the Torrance farmers market. Its the only place I'll get my meat from now. Grass fed and hormone free. Not only is the meat good but the guys working there are helpful and honest about their products. I've never had a bad experience. Do yourself a favor and check them out. Ask about the bison fries. Right from…read morethe start, we were welcomed by a friendly security guard at the entrance, which set the tone. Ladies, just a heads up, they do check your purses before entry, and there's a $10 cover per person. I highly recommend getting a table if you can. There's a minimum spend. For us, it was $125 for food and drinks, but it's worth it to have a spot to sit, relax, and actually enjoy the band and the view of the dance floor without hovering around. The live band was so much fun. Everyone was out there line dancing to both country and pop songs, and the energy was contagious. Even if you don't know the dances, it's still a blast to watch and soak in the positive high energy crowd. Next time, I'm definitely coming earlier to learn a few moves and fully join in. They have two food menus plus a drink menu. Food wise, it was decent. I ordered the ranch steak burger (cooked medium) with fries, and it was a good solid choice. The warm campfire chocolate cookie with vanilla ice cream was a nice sweet treat to end the night. Service is where this place really shines. From the security to the staff to even the guests, everyone was incredibly welcoming. You can tell there are a lot of regulars, and it creates this friendly, almost community like atmosphere. Our waitress (I didn't catch her name) was amazing. She was super attentive, constantly checking in, clearing the table, chatting with us, and just giving off the warmest energy while still being quick and efficient. Overall, the people truly make this place. Great music, fun crowd, and an all around good time. Already looking forward to coming back. Next time with better planning and maybe a few line dance moves ready

I love their passion and enthusiasm, starting with their "freshest bread". The oven-to-plate brioche is a signature starter that reflects their values, their commitment to getting you the freshest food they can. The Greenest Salad goes so well with this, and all the veggies taste like they were just picked from the field. They procure many top-notch ingredients, and most of the preparation is simple so the food can speak for itself. My favorites from that night include the Mussels Croquetas which had beautiful bits of shellfish and a cream sauce that was to die for. They also made the first Paella I've ever liked, and their Lamb is the most delicious I've ever tasted. There is a dessert that I hope they never stop serving. The Kougin Amman ice cream sandwich is a genius pairing, especially because they just might make the best pastry in the world. I love the up close and personal approach, and the ingredients are incredible. A fun little splurge if you're in the area.

They also had free blankets upon request since we got a bit cold. Maybe my bad for misinterpreting the menu but I was expecting a honey glaze on roasted carrots which is definitely not what we got Grilled bone-in pork chop: 5/5 this was super good and made up for the appetizers. I was getting a little impatient by the time this came out so I'm glad this didn't disappoint My cousin got the crispy fried jidori half chicken which she didn't like because she was expecting a grilled chicken but I thought the chicken was really good. Def a bit heavy of a meal overall though and there were way more hush puppies than I would ever want to eat in one sitting

Captain Jack's is the culinary equivalent of that friend who's been gorgeous for 40 years and…read moresomehow keeps getting better. The food? Consistently good. Always has been. That's actually the problem. Lately my visits have consisted of a crab-stuffed mushroom appetizer, linguine and clams, lamb, halibut, and steak. In other words, I apparently walked in for dinner and accidentally financed a small yacht. And I have a legitimate question: Is New Zealand the only place on Earth with sheep? Every restaurant that serves lamb proudly announces, "Product of New Zealand." Are American sheep all on vacation? Is there an international witness protection program for lamb? Somewhere there's a vaudeville act waiting to happen. "Where's the lamb from?" "New Zealand." "Again?" "What, you wanted Nebraska mutton? Get out." Then there's the menu. About 80% of it simply says "Market Price." At this point I'm thinking of paying in sand dollars. If we're both using the market, maybe I can buy low, sell high, and leave with a profit. Don't misunderstand me--I love Captain Jack's. The food is worth every penny. I just need to start treating dinner reservations like meetings with my financial advisor. My credit card now stands up and applauds every time I pull into the parking lot. Good service. Good food. I'm just waiting for my seafood portfolio to mature before I come back. Bill: +$200

We were really looking forward to trying Captain Jack's for a date night, but unfortunately our…read morefirst experience was pretty disappointing. Walking in, the front dining room had a great atmosphere, it was busy and lively, with a gentleman playing piano and beautiful fish tanks throughout the restaurant. We were greeted right away and only waited a few minutes for our reservation. My husband had specifically reserved a booth, and we were taken to a half-round booth tucked all the way in the back corner of the restaurant. Unfortunately, it is completely removed from the ambiance, piano music, and energy we had enjoyed when we first walked in. The booth itself was also surprisingly uncomfortable. The table fit so tightly into the space that it was difficult to sit comfortably. You would think a tucked-away booth would feel romantic for date night, but it was anything but. Service was good and very attentive, almost overly so, with separate people handling drinks, bread and water, and our main server. Our server brought over the large shark-fin menu and explained the menu and different options, which was unique and a nice touch. The dirty martini was delicious! I was disappointed they didn't have blue cheese olives, and instead it came with a pickled tomato/olive garnish that I personally did not care for. It was a little off-putting expecting a traditional savory olive and getting something sweet and pickled instead. The warm bread was soft and delicious, but oddly served with hard butter pats that were basically impossible to spread. Even putting the butter inside the warm bread and folding it over didn't help much! The dinner salad was HUGE and the blue cheese dressing was delicious, definitely one of the highlights of the meal. For our entrées, I ordered the filet and lobster tail, while my husband ordered the crab legs. We shared a loaded baked potato and asparagus. Thank goodness we only ordered one potato because half was enormous! Unfortunately, this is where the meal really fell short. My filet was extremely tough and pretty flavorless. Both the texture and flavor honestly reminded me more of sirloin than filet. The lobster, which was served already removed from the shell, was overcooked, tough and chewy. My husband's crab legs were good. The asparagus, however, was very overcooked and had no seasoning just a ramekin of butter on the side to pour over it. The plating was also surprisingly cramped. Between the entrées and the huge baked potato, there was barely enough room on the plates to cut and prepare everything comfortably. Larger plates and a little more attention to presentation would have made a big difference, especially at this price point. Overall, there were definitely some positives: attentive service, a great dirty martini, delicious bread and salad, and a beautiful, lively atmosphere in the front of the restaurant. Unfortunately, we didn't get to experience much of that atmosphere from where we were seated, and the quality and preparation of our main entrées simply didn't match what we expected. For a restaurant with this reputation and price point, we expected a much better dining experience. Sadly, our first date night at Captain Jack's left us pretty disappointed.
