We first tried the Korean Short Ribs and were so impressed with the cut and taste. After grabbing a brochure, we discovered that you can purchase larger quantities of the short ribs, with a bit of a discount, online. If you order online, you can pick up at the various farmers markets that they service. I recently ordered the chicken ultimate freezer filler online. There was an online sale offering $10 off a 10lb box of various cuts. My boxed contained a whole chicken, thighs, ground chicken, and chicken breast. I personally liked the cuts I received. I've been buying bacon every week at my local farmers market from these people for years now. I have no idea what happened, but around 6 months ago the quality has dropped off considerably. The cuts are atrocious and often have dangling pieces hanging off each strip. The taste is also much much less flavorful. This bacon used to melt in my mouth, now it just tastes like chewy cardboard. I am not exaggerating when I say that I just made a full breakfast sandwich using this bacon, took one bite, and threw the entire thing in the trash. Solely because of how bad the bacon was. The people are always very friendly and I want to patronize these types of businesses. But something needs to change (or go back to the way it was) to get my business back. Amazing grassfed and finished meats and I will usually place the order early in the week and pick it up Sunday at the Long Beach Farmers market. I have gotten their 25lb beef freezer filler which was absolutely awesome and lasted me such a long time. I've grilled their meats, smoked them, put them into stews and soups, you name it. I am beyond thrilled that I found BRD. Like one of the earlier reviews said, I had given up eating meat because of the horrible erosion of our US food supply system, chemicals, soy & corn feed, inhumane processing (long transport where the animals stress hormone are through the roof and the consumer ends up injesting that pain & suffering). We stumbled upon BRD at farmers market in West LA and met the owner. He runs his business raising wild animals the way it was meant to be and told me he personally transports the animals to processing to be sure it is as human as possible. These folks are amazing! I've been buying meat from them for a couple of years. They're at a bunch of the farmers markets around LA. You can order ahead and pick up your order from them at the farmers market, or you can choose from a pretty diverse selection that they always have at the market. They've got this amazing mangalitsa pork belly, it's super rich. This last time I ordered online, I placed my order well after their deadline for the Sunday farmers market, and they STILL got everything ready for me! Tried their products at the Mar Vista farmers market. I wish I trusted my I stinky fro the first impression. The older gentlemen with a beard who was the boss was arrogant. I asked about the casing and he just looked at me and said the meat was hung to dry and had no casing. Looked like it was a cellulose that can be taken off. Anyway I still wanted to try it so asked for their non-pork products a day handed two a lamb and an invited salami. I went home and saw it was pork, as it was a farmers market I hr to wait a week. I went back and spoke with him and he stared and said it wears my fault and that there is nothing he could do. Keep in mind you cannot select the salami they have to give it yo you from the bar k of the tent. So he asked what I wanted so asked if they will just replace it so then told too bad you bought it and he did not know me. Great customer service right?! I got upset and then he told me that now he would not do anything to help with my attitude. A person who literally does not know how sausage/salami is made. Yes I should have read the ingredients but I forgot my glasses so I trusted them. But blame is on both sides. Please for heavens sake do not purchase anything fro them. I would give 10 stars as the wonderful people at BDR saved my Xmas dinner. On Xmas Eve morning Donna call me bright and early in response to my panicked email of needing a replace Ham for Xmas dinner. Donna immediately went to the warehouse in search of a replacement Ham. Can't explain why as my family would be devastated at this delemina I was in however BDR came to my rescue not only replaced my ham with a larger one and offered me a discount I CAN'T express how amazing they treated me my families xmas dinner was saved . If they give you the wrong product they will not correct their mistake. So buyer beware, check your order carefully. The meat comes from various ranches and it is VERY INCONSISTENT IN THE QUALITY butchering. Some packs of meat are very sloppy and contain fragments of bone and gristle where others are trimmed well. Mind you - they all cost the same....rather expensive price per pound. To charge a premium, product should be better. I'd look for a more consistent source with a better attitude than the main guy in OC has. (Cindy is awesome) read more

I've been a customer for a while. You joint to get a discount on products and pay an annual fee - about $100 - and then the discounts pay you back. You place an order online by Thursday night and get your products at the Farmer's Market on Saturday or whatever day that market is open. For us it's Saturday at Irvine Ranch Market. They have a website where you can pre-order what you want delivered. Everything with a few exceptions like Jerky is delivered frozen. They have an extensive menu that runs from Bison to beef and pork, chicken, and lamb - and much more. The quality of the meats is as advertised, the best we've ever had in almost 100% of the cases. You can't beat the taste of truly pasture -raised beef, pork, and chicken. You don't realize how much factory-farming has compromised our taste buds until you actually eat something that is raised correctly and humanely. When you got to the market and meet the guys to collect your products they are very friendly and helpful, very generous on getting your order right and sending you a receipt via email. Their website is "buyranchdirect.com" and they've invested a lot of time trying to make this useful to members. Now here's where they need some definite work - communication. You pre-order something online for pickup and they don't have it, so they email back and ask you if you would take something else. You answer immediately and tell them to cancel your pre-order if they don't have what you want - NO ANSWER. NOTHING. Was my order cancelled? I don't know. They do this all the time and it's annoying and I get maybe they don't have enough people - maybe Brandon is having to do all of this himself (running around like a one-armed paperhanger) - but when I got the wrong cut of roast on an order and didn't realize it until I got home and brought it out of the freezer to thaw a few days later, I communicated with them via their email and no response. So the next Saturday I asked at the Irvine Market and they said, "Oh yeah, we got it. We'll answer it." And never did. NOTHING. No, "Hey, we got your email and will respond shortly." and no resolution. JUST BLANK AIR. So just to make sure, I sent them several more emails and sure enough, NO ANSWER. Now remember I know they're getting my emails. They're not coming back. I confirmed they received it by talking to the folks at the Farmer's Market so not a matter of my emails getting lost in cyberspace. And when I called I got "leave a message" so I declined that solution because I already has about 4 emails waiting. And remember they signed me up as a member - so I know they have my information. So great MUST HAVE product, and very poor communication which I hope improves in the future. read more

Went to the farmers market in Long Beach 10/30/2016, happened to see this booth that sold grass feed, free roaming, no hormones, meats such as cattle, bison, chicken, turkey, pork etc. since I had given up eating meats due to the horrible chemicals that are added in our meats that are sold in our regular markets, I decided to buy ground beef, Hamburger patties, ground bison, pork chops, chicken, WOW was I happy with the smell of the pork and hamburger patties, I hope to start introducing beef back into my diet, only if I can continue to buy from this honest family own company, who does not use any chemicals or other addictive to keep the shelf life longer. read more

We have tried the pork chop and shoulder, ground beef, bison flank steak (5*), and chicken. This is the third farm that my family and I have tried. We are becoming extremely conscious about where we source our meat so you cam be sure I askes Brandon all the right questions. They have acres of grass to feed and finish their animals. Dont be fooled by "grass fed" anymore...it needs to be finished, meaning grass and nothing else from beginning to end. His farming practices sound legit. I asked him about the slaughterhouse and butcher he uses. He was knowledgeable about every step that his animals go through to get to my table. He doesnt even recommend a bulk purchase because he cycles every 2 weeks. Why would i want to fill a freezer, when i can get fresh cuts weekly? That's right, Brandon, thanks! So we are now heading back to the LB farmers market for our 3rd purchase, cant wait to see what we get. Pork is delish, and i dont tend to eat pork regularly. We bought a chop to taste test, just salt and pepper. And, WOW, that was some tender meat! The bison flank we used in pho, as thin slices to cook in broth and man...SO good!!! AND, his prices are awesome! Way bettet than the "deal" I was getting at another farm. They ranged btw $12-25/lb depending on the meat. Diamond Mtn Ranch is $5.50/lb for whole chicken and around $10-12/lb for the beef and pork. Are you kidding me? SOLD! So glad we found Brandon's family farm!
