It has taken me a couple of trips to figure out what Byrdie's was trying to be. I figure that's my fault and no reflection on the excellent service I've received every time. I love a good French place. This block feels like it always needs at least one place and I was somewhat regular to one years ago (not Byrdie's immediate predecessor which I missed in its too brief existence). Byrdie's is a French restaurant by cuisine and spirit and decor, there is no doubt to that part of it. A step into Byrdie's is a step into what movies have taught me is a fancy Parisian restaurant. Yet there was a bit of a distance that I couldn't accurately name until this evening. I think what I've landed on is Byrdie's feels and maybe is meant to feel like what if one of my very Kentucky grandmothers or aunts trained as a proper French chef. In crystallizing that I also can't imagine a higher compliment, now that I feel like I get what it is trying to be. I don't think it is trying to be a "fusion" of the two worlds, it's still inherently a French restaurant. But it has that little extra resonance of local sensibility and palate. Particular stand out moments for me, given that dawning insight were especially from the Foie Gras and the Truffle Frites. The foie gras was subtly and expertly accented with a dollop of Apple Butter. An excellent tool that my family would use for a hint of spice and sweetness, used in a way not intended to distract from the reason you'd spend that much money on a good foie gras at a great French restaurant. So too, the truffle fries were paired with a modest pimento cheese sauce, close enough to the house made aioli of a typical French restaurant that you shouldn't feel a need to ask for more mayonnaise, and yet subtly sharper and spicier than that. Yet again pimento cheese being something I associate with my own family and childhood dinners. Tonight that sense of eating an excellent "foreign" cuisine with just enough light hints of "home" really hit a good spot for me. That brief maybe a little silly feeling of for a moment imagining that alternate history of if this French-named city was a weird province of France. Both close to home and a visit to a faraway and weirder city in one lovely meal. So far in all of my trips I've mostly made big meals out of many small plates. I think that now that I've got more of a sense of the place I'm looking forward to seeing what else happens with the proper entrees in some future trips. I hope the exploration continues in that creative space that isn't exactly "fusion"; French meals with deliberate local twists. read more

We went for happy hour. They had a special menu of small plates and a few drinks. We ended up ordering a couple things off the regular menu as well. The charred carrots were my favorite thing we ordered. The deviled egg and short rib croquettes were also really good. Drinks were delicious. I had the Le Jardin and it was very refreshing. Service was great. Our servers were very attentive. I also loved the look of this place. read more

We had reservations for Valentine's week and this was the perfect spot! Everything we ate was a burst of flavor. We tried the Byrdie salad, soup de jour, steak frites, and pithvier. I can't wait to go back and try the French onion soup and chicken entree. The Genevieve hotel is a cool spot full of textures and interesting art. The ambiance and service was outstanding but I was disappointed in the food overall. I offer this constructive criticism because I want to see this place do really well. I went for happy hour and the best thing I had was dessert: the buttermilk pie. However, the crust, though delicious, was way too hard to cut, even with the fork and knife I asked for. The deviled eggs contained the creamiest egg yolk spread I have ever had but the crunchy parts mixed in were too crunchy and not tasty enough. I was eager to try the hush puppy with caviar. While the caviar was generous, the hush puppy was bland. Again, the staff was great especially my server who was incredibly kind and well mannered. I was glad they offered a Happy Hour with good prices including for cocktails and a mocktail. I just hope the food while good gets even better to match the excellent service and ambiance. read more

This is the cutest little restaurant! They are so personal I felt like they really cared about our experience. We were celebrating a bachelorette party and they brought us complementary champagne and dessert. It was so sweet. I also loved the little journals they put the check in. Writing a note to the chef and the next guests. The food was incredible. The flavors were so balanced and delicious. I will be back! read more

Ooh la la! I've been to Paris before and this was very close to the French food I had there. My coworkers and I all split escargot and the deviled eggs were so good. I ordered the steak frites and felt it was sufficient enough for one person lol even they said 2 ppl can share lol. And we split all the desserts. And yuzu dessert (definitely try!), apple dessert, and the chocolate dessert was amazing. I also got the sour drink which was very good but it hit me a little (I'm a lightweight lol). My wife and I went to Byrdie's for Valentine's Day, and it was absolutely worth it. From start to finish, everything about our experience was incredible. First, a heads-up, you'll want to make a reservation, and it's a good idea to get there a little early to find parking. Once inside, the atmosphere was great, and the service was top-notch. The staff was attentive without being overbearing, making the night feel even more special. The food? Incredible. I got the scallops, steak frites, and a chocolate dessert (the name escapes me), and I can confidently say it was the best steak I've ever had. My wife had the house salad, steak frites, and a dessert that I also can't remember the name of but she loved it. We don't go to places this nice very often, but we wanted to do something special for Valentine's, and Byrdie's did not disappoint. If you're looking for a great dining experience, this is the place. Made a reservation weeks ago and received a cancellation via Open Table with no call, no explanation, nothing regarding why my reservation had been cancelled. After trying to call for hours, I called the front desk at the hotel, where the restaurant resides, to try and get connected, only to be told by the person that restaurant staff had been MIA for days and they didn't know what was going on. What an absolute mess! Terrible Customer Service, terrible organization, clearly inept management. If this place does stay open, do not go! Certainly don't make reservations or plans around this restaurant because they will only let you down! We had plans for a group of 7 to celebrate our 40th birthday and this has absolutely ruined our event. It's Valentine's Day weekend and we cannot find a replacement restaurant anywhere to accommodate us. Shame on Byrdie's! read more

The Tournedos Rossini here is the best meal I've had in Louisville. I also tried the Agnolotti which I wasn't crazy about but that might just be because I was comparing to the tournedos. read more

Relatively new. They aspire to be a seasonal French tradition restaurant. We were greeted warmly and sat immediately. The decor hasn't changed much from the previous owners but subtle touches. The menu was few choices but everything sounded good. We started with Champagne and Foie Gras both of which were nicely done! Then I moved on to a true French onion soup, it was fantastic. We switched to glasses of a Bordeaux Cab blend which went well with our main course that we shared of Cote de Boeuf (Prime Rib) it was huge! The two of us shared it and still took home half. Very tender and nicely done. Sorry no picture we were drinking! It came with what the called potatoes Anna but it was more Grattan. It was okay, just not what we were expecting! We got dessert of an Apple tart that was done very nicely with a puff pastry crust. And yes we got Armagnac with it. They have a good selection of those! Feeling sated and maybe a little tipsy we called it a night......but we'll be back to try other dishes! read more

Underwhelming . All the raving reviews and chef accolades set my expectations up for an amazing anniversary dinner. It was fine. The food, service and ambiance were fine, I guess. We got a card signed by staff. Cute. The tiny table with teeny dried flower arrangements was ok. I did not see a place to hang my cloak. It's about the food, though. Both my appetizer and main course were extremely salty ?! Otherwise delicious, but I expected a lot more from a nearly $200 dinner for two people. Two appetizers, entrees, and desserts, and one mint Julep, plus tip and parking ..! We paid $24 to park in their lot for two hours! I suppose one does not go to such an establishment unless prepared to spend freely. It's okay, sometimes, for a life-changing experience. read more

One of the best dining experiences in Louisville! The food was absolutely delicious and the service was impeccable. The entire staff was attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. Absolutely loved everything we tried from the deviled egg appetizer to the yuzu tart for dessert. Highly recommend the wagyu tenderloin. The atmosphere was inviting but still elegant. My wife and I decided to try Byrdie's last night and it wasn't a great experience. Although the food and aesthetic was good, the experience was poor. 1. We asked for a small taster of two wines that were offered by the glass because we had intended on ordering a bottle of the one we preferred. However, we were told the restaurant didn't offer this option which is atypical at a restaurant of this caliber. 2. We were told we had to order everything at the same time so the kitchen could course the meal for us. We do not like doing that because we don't know how big each course will be and like to take our time. We arrived at 7pm and all four things we ordered were delivered to our table at the same time by 715. We had our bill by 730 and left the restaurant by 740. An experience like this should last a minimum of 1.5 hours unless patrons explicitly request a fast service. Two of our courses were basically cold by the time we ended up eating them. read more

Went there on the 2nd night of opening. Byrdi's is located on the ground floor of Hotel Genevieve in NULU. Made a reservation on Open Table. Really nice service and excellent food. We shared three dishes. Started with the delicious Scallop St. Jacques. We each got a scallop nestled in a shell full of perfectly seasoned mashed potatoes. Then we had the Byrdi's House Salad, which had granola sprinkled in it. The dressing was tangy and so good all together. Lastly we had the Steak Frites. It was ok (hubby liked it better than me). The fries were stiff and not great. Will come back in a month or so to see how the restaurant evolves and hopefully adds some ambiance and more wine selections. read more

-Foie Gras was good but for us we felt it needed a firmer bread. The soft roll with a soft spread on it texturally wasn't my favorite. Would have preferred a traditional baguette, a rye, or grilled toast. -Scallops St. Jacques were delicious, well cooked, and rich. A perfect starter bite for two. Presentation on them was beautiful. -We had the Tournedos Rossini and Steak Frites for entrees. The meat quality was fantastic and cooked perfectly. The au poivre sauce on the steak frites was a little looser and not as peppery as I've had in the past but still good. The downside was that the aoili served with the frites was sweet with citrus notes. It really clashed with the steak and I couldn't bring myself to take more than a bite or two. I avoided the aoili and used the au poivre sauce on the steak to dip my frites in. Cippolini onions accompanying the steak added a nice shot of flavor. -One glaring omission on the menu for us was a general lack of vegetables. A handful of onions or a shaved celery garnish doesn't really represent a bounty of veggies. Maybe there are side dishes that aren't listed on the menu, we should have asked but we didn't. We would have loved some side dish options of vegetables to accompany the entrees and round out the meal. -Service was very friendly and attentive. Ambiance: in the newly opened Hotel Genevieve lobby, on the smallish side but new and nice decoration (as of Feb 2025, 2 months after their opening). On Market St, NuLu. Difficult street parking Service: we had a great waitress. However they still don't have the gift card service set up yet. Reservation system is also a bit clunky. Food: supposedly French Southern fusion. But I would say more French than Southern. Overall it wasn't bad but I have had better. A few examples: French onion soup: when they say burnt onion it was REALLY burnt. As a fan of regular French onion soup, this was inedible. Plus the broth was too salty. Escargot appetizer: in classic herb butter. Very fresh and Scallop appetizer: not bad, but again nothing too special. Had mashed potatoes underneath. Too salty. Small scallop for the ~$25 price tag per scallop. Entree salads: fresh and crisp ingredients. On the small side for an entree salad, OK as a side or can be shared among two people (which is what we did). Nothing mind blowing. Roasted (aged) duck: delicious! Whole duck which was cut up and mostly deboned. Well cooked, apparently they cooked different parts differently , like the legs are confit, but the breasts were roasted etc. the orange sauce was delicate and slightly sweet, complemented the duck well. Can be comfortably shared among 2 people if this is the only entree you are getting. For $110 the price is steep, but appropriate for NuLu. Cote de boeuf: basically pan cooked bone-in ribeyes. Pretty good for this style. Perfectly medium rare like we asked. Nice ratio of fat/meat. $140 for 2 people. Overall I would come back for the escargot and the duck if I am in the mood for French food and be willing to pay $100+ per person. However this is not a Michelin level place (which we were told the chef came from a Chicago Michelin restaurant). read more

Except for the noise this place was sensational. Wonderful scallops and escargot. Beautiful and bountiful lynoise salad, very good steak frites and Amish chicken. The frites may have been the best I have ever had. ( and I lived in Paris) Outstanding service and very reasonable for four with four drinks and great empathetic and genuine service. Incredible food and service! We started out with the duck of the orange cocktail which was a delicious spin on an old fashioned. The scallops were in mashed potatoes and incredible. I had the 48 hour baked short rib which was rich and delicious - I will say it is a very beet forward dish so only order if you like beets. My husband had the steak which was cooked to perfection. We loved the yuzu and the chocolate dessert. The service was excellent. Very informative waiter and they wiped up your station between each course. Absolutely would come again!! read more

The service was really good, attentive but not intrusive. The space is bright and a little loud acoustically. Food was good overall, but some variation. The chicken, soups, and deviled eggs were excellent. The short ribs and salads had flaws which will hopefully improve with time. We will definitely go back. read more
