Our AC died on a particularly hot weekend and CD Shanahan was one of the few companies that could send a tech out on short notice. They diagnosed the problem quickly: a coolant leak in my system. Their tech did a good job explaining and demonstrating the problem. I have older unit using R22 so the entire unit needs to be replaced. They explained what my options are for replacement and provided their recommendations. Their tech even encouraged me to get quotes from competitors and gave suggestions for what questions to ask. Earlier this year CD Shanahan's installed a new Mitsibushi mini-split in one of our bedrooms. The workmanship, timeliness, and price were great, and much appreciated. We have another mini-split in a different bedroom, sold and installed before we started with CD, that has been plagued with a small leak for more than 2 years without being located. In mid-August we asked Shanahan to send someone out to look for the leak and, wonder of wonders, Brandon was able to find it in one of the flanges in a location high up on the outside wall where it seems no one had thought to look before! On the 14th, he and Elijah reworked all of the flange connections to make sure we wouldn't develop leaks in any of them. They were great! Our AC wasn't cooling nearly as well and we were worried we'd have to replace our whole AC system. They came out the very next day, took a look at our system and said our coolant was low. They also told us a leak wasn't likely bc the coolant loss wasn't significant (we were down a little over a pound of coolant). Our tech added coolant and also let me know our system could probably last another year or two. Definitely good to hear! They did a great job, responded fast and were very professional. Our Ac unit from 1997 died right at the end of the summer and our home warranty (Cinch) decided not to cover it "because a fan blade can't break from normal wear and tear". Well it did. And so lesson learned we decided to get quotes from several well reviewed hvac businesses in the area on replacing both our ac and furnace which we knew was on its last leg. Connor provided a same day quote and answered all my questions. He matched or exceeded all the ad-ons bigger companies were offering and for the best price. We accepted his quote on a Friday afternoon and he was able to schedule us for Monday 9am sharp. He and his co-worker Troy, following covid protocols with masks etc, worked non stop to get the job done by just after 5pm and took time to show us how the new system works, answering all our questions along the way. SO THIS IS A BIT OF A WEIRD REVIEW I had an issue with my AC and used Yelp's request a quote from multiple providers. These guys responded and were very friendly and helpful. When I tried a few fixes on my own and nothing seemed to work, and as I couldn't leave my family for that long without getting the AC sorted; some how the wires got crossed (on my end) and I was speaking with two different companies at the same time. Seeing my situation, these guys sent someone out last minute before my departure to assist -- but not before someone else already came out. The gentleman they sent out was friendly, professional -- despite the awkward situation of me having now two repair techs at my house at the same time. I offered to make each tech whole for their time, and the tech declined, stating that the other guy had me taken care of. That kind of honesty and (potential) customer care speaks volumes to me of their professionalism. It could have been an easy money day, but they treated me like a person didn't seek to take advantage. These guys deserve the solid five star rating they've got and I would not hesitate to recommend them to my neighbors next time they have an issue with their HVAC. Highly recommend! read more

Really good experience all the way around, and price was competitive. Needed to replace our antique heat pump and blower -- they just weren't up to the task of cooling in Virginia any longer. We put in a request through Yelp on Saturday and Connor replied right away. They provided a quote based on photos, eliminating the need to set up an initial visit, and were able to turn around the service call in 48 hours (Monday morning, even though it wasn't an emergency.) Dillon arrived on time and immediately offered up that he was fully vaccinated, which I appreciated. Ian worked on the heat pump out back and I particularly appreciated his attention to not tromping on the plants in the garden -- I realize he was moving large heat pumps in and out, and I wouldn't have held it against him if the plants had been beaten up, but he managed to do the whole service with no damage to the garden. Very much appreciated! They worked all day, and Connor stopped by to check on progress. At the end they cleaned everything up, as well. Nice work, gentlemen. The service was truly exceptional. Our AC blew out this evening (during a heat wave), and they were able to come out after hours the same day. The technician made it to our house in less than 30 minutes from when I called. He had all the parts he needed and got the AC up and running in no time. Not only was the quote reasonable, and the service fast, but this was also the only company that I spoke with that was willing to take extra covid precautions given that we have a high-risk individual in the house. What a great experience that I had with this company! Our system failed and we luckily called C.D Shanahan's. What a great experience! First off, their company number leads you straight to the owner himself. He was very knowledgeable and he suggested that we swap our 20 year old system to a higher efficiency system. He had a very very fair quote to me in absolutely no time at all and within in a day, had the new system at my house and ready to install. There was a 2 man team of clean looking installers. Let me say, what a team Dan (the lead tech) and Dillon (his right hand man) showed up on time with organized trucks and about professionalism. You could just tell that I had the right guys for the job and man it showed. Their work looked absolutely amazing and they weren't even there all day. It was just a professional, knowledgeable, fast install and I have never had such a great experience with a contractor. This company is my go-to and I suggest the same for anyone looking. I found C.D. Shanahan via Yelp after my A/C died and my DIY repairs didn't work. They were quick to respond, on site same day and did a thorough inspection and diagnosis. After explaining the problem (a leak somewhere in the system) and my options (repair the 14 year old system for $5K or replace for more), we decided to replace. Connor worked with us on options and price and timing. Connor sent Ian and Dillon to begin the remove/replace process and then joined them shortly after they started. All were friendly, personable and professional. They completed theinstall, including hauling away the old system and all the trash (not even a screw left behind!) in a day. I didn't have much time to compare pricing, but my sense is these guys are right in the middle of the range...but the quality of service, followup and willingness to work with us are DEFINITELY worth any increase over the "discount" installers. We own a house that was built 21 years ago, and in examining our water heater decided it was time to replace it, since it appeared to be original to the house. We started our search with Home Depot and decided on a water heater and set up an appointment for the replacement. That was when the difficulties began. After the sub-contractor arrived ready to start work, they looked at the job and after deliberating with the home office, declined the work due to the difficulty in getting the old water heater out. The water heater is located in a tight space in a fully finished basement with the gas line and water pipe sitting in front of the heater in the access door. We then had several other contractors come in and either outright decline the job, give us the option of going tankless at an astronomical cost with lots of additional work, or a commitment to research the options and then never call us back. We were outright frustrated. The only silver lining to this was that the old water heater was still operating, but we were concerned about it going bad or worse leaking all over our finished basement. That is when we received a recommendation for CD Shanahan. Conner (owner/operator) came in to assess the situation and told us what they would need to do to complete the job. In a nutshell it consisted of removing the gas line, cutting the water line, and lifting/removing the water heater. They did this all in about four hours (including unloading/loading the truck). We were very happy with Conner and his team member's professionalism. They came in, did the job, and left everything clean when they left. I will definitely keep them in mind when it comes time for other projects. read more
