I'm not a yelp reviewer but this place has inclined me to write a review. First of all the ownership and staff is incredibly personable. Right off the bat they are in the front of the house making recommendations if you ask. The draw to this place is that all their ingredients are organic and fresh. I had one of the burgers with gruyere and organic mushrooms with truffle. I have had the burger at le pigeon in portland which is award winning and this tips it. On top of that my appetizer was the from scratch tomatoe soup that was delicious. If you can make it in when they are open this is a MUST HAVE when visiting the Jacksonville, Medford, Ashland area. This chef owner, Paul, deserves all the superlatives. His food displays a delicate yet muscular creativity with surprising and pleasing flavor and texture melds and compliments. As my husband said, "this salmon dish is greater than the sum of it's parts!" It was perfect. I'll let you be surprised. The treatment of the common brussel sprout here is refreshing and satisfying. Find a reason to visit Jacksonville JUST so you can eat here! I hit the place up just after they opened and good thing I did because there were only a few tables still available and now I know why. I sat on the little deck patio they have off to the side covered in the shade and was pleasantly greeted within a few minutes. I ordered ice tea that came with some kind of orange infused nectar to sweeten if needed. Wow, great pairing! I was on the fence if it was going to be the Cubano or the Southeast Asian Bahn Mi. I decided I was in the mood for some Asian, so the Bahn Mi won. K, so here it is, AMAZING! The bread seemed like it was fresh baked and the actual sandwich was perfect. Not to much filling vs meat ratio and the pickling was not over powering. Great balance. As a side, I choose the tomato soup and again was not let down. Great flavor, thick and yummie. The only downside was the soup was only warm, so it cooled off before I could finish. The solution was to dip the sandwich in the soup, problem solved. This place is worth a drive out to Jacksonville in itself (although the town is a really fun place to visit as well)! My mom and I stopped here late in the evening to have a bite before heading back to our hotel, and it was delicious! I had the lobster mac n' cheese, my mom enjoyed the spinach and mushroom napoleon. Everything on the menu looked incredible, and I have heard the burgers are the absolute best around, but the owner told us he was going to switch up the menu in the near future, so I recommend getting in there now to savor what is currently offered - and planning a trip back to test out the new dishes! read more

On my first visit I expected great things after eyeing the photo of Chef Paul of C Street Bistro with Julia Child hanging on the wall and was not disappointed! After having returned numerous times, I can safely say this is the best lunch in Jacksonville!! C Street has it all...friendly staff, local ingredients, charming atmosphere, and a creative chef behind it all. I am addicted to the pulled pork sandwiches (both the bahn mi and the BBQ) and my husband loves the burgers. It really is hard to choose at C Street! I also appreciate that Chef Paul is part of the Port Orford Seafood Share bringing locally caught fish straight to the consumer. He obviously cares about locally sourced, sustainable food. The menu: Amuse Bouche Beef tartare on a cucumber chip. 1st Course Alder smoker albacore and arugula salad w kalamata olives , local heirloom tomatoes and white balsamic vinaigrette. Main Course Smoked paprika beef brisket w chantrelle, sweet corn and fingerling potato succotash. Dessert Peach shortcake w vanilla whipped cream. All offered for $30! (We chose the $45 option which paired each course with Caprice Cellars wines). Are you kidding me? Wow! Amazing value. Amazing quality. Amazing flavor. One of my favorite meals in years. These guys are talented. Don't bother with the drive to Ashland for your next "special occasion" dinner. Atmosphere is casual but friendly (with only the chef and one other guy working the 4 tables inside). My daughter took me to this little place. I was at first alarmed by the cafeteria-style seating - as a party of two, we were placed opposite each other on a long table seating perhaps 12. BUT - the menu is wonderful and easily adaptable to my low-carb-high-fat lifestyle. Usually, when I order a burger or sandwich without a bun, the presentation is haphazard and the result less than appetizing. We called at the last minute and Paul was kind enough to fit us in for our first visit to the C St. Bistro. We sat at a table for 6 with another party of 4, who were friendly and accommodating. You need to keep in mind that inside there are few tables and, if you are a small party, you will likely be sharing. In warm weather they seat outdoors at mostly smaller tables where you can have your privacy. The food was out of this world! We shared a wedge salad, brought our own bottle of wine (corkage a reasonable $15), had the spaghetti and the lamb chops. Innovative and absolutely superb! Service was attentive, 1-1 for culinary conversations, friendly. Overall, perfect. This will be our new, favorite place. read more

We went here thinking it'll be really good because it had so many good reviews and looked cute from the outside. However, it was not cute at all inside. As soon as we walked in, there was a creepy vibe. I've never experienced anything like it before. They just stared at us. No hellos or smiles or anything. The waitress took a long time to take our order and the food was mediocre at best when it finally came out. Everything else close by was closed as it was lunch time and we were starving so we stayed thinking the food would be good but was disappointed in that regard too. Ate here today for the first time before heading back home to Portland. The food here is absolutely delicious, (my boyfriend and I got grilled cheese paninis, while our friend had the tomato soup) and the man who was serving us (who we later learned was the owner, and quite the acclaimed chef) was just a really, really nice and friendly guy in how he spoke with us as well as how he spoke with his employees and other customers in the restaurant. It's a small place with only a few people working, but that made things feel nice and cozy, like I had family cooking for me. We had stayed at a local hotel while in Jacksonville which gave us a $10 voucher that we could use at this restaurant, but by the end of the meal we decided that we'd hold onto it. We had a wonderful experience and wanted to give them our full business. Thanks a bunch to everyone at C Street Bistro! Ended up at C st after being denied at Onyx. Wife had the NY steak and shrimp that was AMAZING! We showed up 10 minutes before they closed and they were kind enough to offer us a table outside, a shawl for warmth and a meal we will never forget. We watched the reviews on this exclusive restaurant for over a year, waiting for the right opportunity to visit. Made reservations with friends to eat before the Daughtry concert 9/2/17. Arrived early and was warmly greeted and seated quickly. Seating was minimal, but suited our needs and felt at home. Our server was helpful and polite. The order consisted of a salad plate, a hamburger, a pasta dish, and king salmon. Also a brussels sprout appetizer. Having been to Brick Room in Ashland the night before where the food was great, we expected an equally great explosion of taste. Sorry, but it didn't happen. The presentation was great, but the taste we were left with was mostly salt. Brussels sprouts appeared to be coated with soy sauce. Salty. The hamburger looked great, but over-seasoned and salty. The pasta dish could not be finished it was so salty. The salmon was ok, but did not leave you with the desire to take another bite because it was so good. The salad was... a salad. I'm sure this place has turned out some spectacular diners judging from the reviews, but I'm not so anxious to come back. read more
