This newly opened tex-mex joint in the DMV Shopping Center is clean and well-lit with plenty of seating room, and friendly staff working behind the counter. I ordered a Chicken Taco (with extra cilantro, obviously - $2.25), Jalapeno Cornbread ($2.00), and a side of Guacamole & Chips ($1.75). Everything was so BLAND! The Chicken Taco had barely any cilantro in it, even though I asked for extra. The tortilla was already soggy after my 3-minute drive home. The Jalapeno Cornbread was sizeable, but dry, and had almost no jalapeno flavor. These 2 items tasted infinitely better after I doused them in Sriracha. :D The chips for my guac were very thick, which made them good for dipping & scooping, but the guacamole had a weird texture. Blech! Completely unimpressed. The food was so salty it was barely palatable and was really nothing more than a giant, gloppy mess in a to go container. Yuck! Then there was the perfunctory, not at all friendly customer service. I asked for recommendations and the employee just shrugged. Really? Amazing Mexican food, this place is better than many of the Chipotles I've tried. Very generous portions and delicious food. Honestly I couldn't come up with anything that they can really improve upon. The chicken and rice I've tried was quite a lot of food for $8.50 and the sauce they provided on the side is really delicious and creamy. A bit spicy but it gives just enough kick to bring out the flavors in the rice and chicken. The burrito was hot and stuffed to the brim with goodies. Very likely you'll be full for a quite a while with just one burrito. The steaks were very tender and juicy but not too much that it ruins the tortilla wrapping. Plus they open until midnight which was perfect when I had a craving for some food after getting out gym late on a Friday night. Since it was late and only another person in front of me my food was ready in less than 5 minutes since it was still fully staffed around 10ish at night. Very impressed with this place since it kinda sits in a boring strip mall shopping center. I would imagine most of the business it gets would be the lunch crowd from the DMV in the same plaza. Cannot recommend this place enough! The food is fantastic! The Peruvian chicken is to die for good. I love their breakfast menu as well. Their brisket is melt in your mouth good. Just tried Cactus Cafe & it is definitely as good as it gets for Tex-Mex. I had the Carne Asada Soft Taco with the most amazing creamy cilantro lime sauce I've ever tasted anywhere. I also had a rotisserie chicken soft taco with pico de gallo & the chicken was awesome & it was really flavorful & delicious. My friend was adamant that I try the natural apple soda even though I've been trying to be healthy but I'm so glad I did. It wasn't too sweet & it was very refreshing. The chips & salsa were also really good. I really enjoyed the salsa because it wasn't too spicy but wasn't mild either & had the perfect balance of onions & cilantro that made my palate truly happy. Today was a huge cheat day but worth it!!! Definitely going to be coming back for more delicious items here!! I was told next time we have to have their burritos & enchilada sauce, soup, & ribs. Their iced coffee is so good and they have agave sweetener! WHUT! Yes, agave! I was blown away by that fact since it's all I use when I'm at home but I know 90% of places don't offer that. Love the food at this place. It's a second restaurant opened after having a successful restaurant in Glen Cove. Food is always fresh and made to order. If you're doing a lunch here call first as it can get very busy, but if you call in an order they're accurate with when it will be ready. I've had the tacos, burritos, & enchiladas here and have yet to be disappointed. Beef is quality shredded not ground scraps. Chicken is juicy & tender. Have not had the fish personally, but 3 friends who have enjoyed them. Some items are spicy, but not beyond reason. Seating for 15-20 people, casual setting. They do offer delivery, but I have not used it yet. Cactus Cafe Love coming here because its located right by my job. The look of the place is very Texas look to it mix with Mexican style. The style is pretty unique and fits the name of the restaurant. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Will greet you min you walk up to take your order. Smile and have a positive attitude. Came here for a little bit of a late-night bite with my teenager and we were pleasantly surprised. Cute little place in a strip mall and they have a nice menu of mexican offerings and BBQ. Their chips and queso are actually very good....chips are NOT thin and light but they have some flavor and texture to them which we both enjoyed. We both settled on the chicken enchiladas and were pleased with it. I did not like the rice and I found the beans rather flat, but the chicken and the enchilada were very tasty and satisfying. This review is based on delivery as I've never eaten physically there before, but wow I will never order delivery again. The you g girl on the phone was rushing me and quite rude in the way she asked her questions. I specifically asked if they do custom bowls and she said yes. BOWLS I said. I place my order and remind her at the end they they are both no tortilla burrito bowls. We get our delivery and sure enough it's a burrito. My boyfriend has celiacs and cannot eat rice or flour tortillas which is why we ordered a custom bowl without those ingredients. He is sick with a 102 fever which is why we ordered delivery and now he has two bites of food for the price of a bowl. Not to mention the food is cold and I had to heat it up in the toaster oven. Holy crap what a hidden gem! This is small Tex-Mex place in the middle of a shopping center completely overshadowed by Michaels, Staples & the DMV. Cactus Cafe is not a restaurant it's a quick serve situation like Paneras or Green Cactus that has a few tables which were full when we went to pick up our food. Our order took about 10 minutes, staff was pleasant and the place was hoppin with activity. We ordered chicken corn chowder, smoked pork burrito & a brownie. The soup was chunky with chicken and had a really nice spicy mild to medium heat. The burrito was incredible! The rice, beans & pork were seasoned so deliciously. The only critique would be I wish there was some more pork. Also the burrito was a perfect size and made very neatly. Absolutely no mess eating it and it was jam packed. Now the brownie was a really big surprise. Simply put it's a damn good homeade brownie. It's got that edge of pan crisp but also that moist gooeyness your mouth craves. Unfortunately no nuts, but honestly it's so good in it's basic presentation the nuts are a distant afterthought. If you're in the area and are looking for taco bell, taco joe's or a green cactus change direction and go to cactus cafe. You wil receive good food karma points. read more

I have been dining at the Medford Cactus Cafe for many years. The food has always been top notch. They have amazing lunch specials, for there modest cost, large portions, and good taste.The staff is very friendly. I especially enjoy the tall young blond lady (I do not know here name).
