My family and I experience with Cafe 126 customer service was displeasing, poorly given, and we received attitudes when we asked for coffee refill . When asked for coffee refilled we were ignored twice. Once by a young Hispanic girl and by a young man with kind of long hair. When I went to complain to the manager she tried to justify the reason by saying "you know how some people have mad face and that's how they always look. " This pretty much justified why service was so distasteful when they have poor leadership to follow. The food was excellent and this was the first time we have ever received this type of service. Will not be returning for a long time nor will I refer or request to eat here. read more

We wanted to try something new and went off of Yelp reviews. I'm not sure if we just came on a bad day? It's small, no frills decor, but that's ok as long as the foods good. As another reviewer mentioned the waitresses aren't too friendly and rarely check in to see if you need a refill or a box etc. My food looked nothing like these pictures! The breakfast potatoes were cold, hard, and had no flavor. The eggs were very rubbery and over cooked while the bacon was under cooked. The gravy was just sad cold lumpy flavorless mush. Sad to say that todays visit was traumatizing for my son and daughter ;(( It's been some years since our family has visited but the food is still the Best as always. My only frustration is that no one from the business did or said anything to the homeless person who was sitting on their outdoor dining table trying to intimidate customers and demanding $10 from everyone including me. After I told him no, he than started to negotiate asking for less money each time. After sometime went by he continued to stare down my children as my back was to him where they got so scared thinking he was going to harm me or them that the lost their appetites and could no longer eat! I finally went in to complain and a few minutes later they sent someone out to tell this person he had to leave the area. Luckily I kept my cool and did not handle this another way but no one should put my family in harms way nor scare them as he did today. Even though we did not get to enjoy our meals I still paid the bill and tipped the workers for their service. Maybe next time you have these types of panhandlers sitting or hanging out in your dining area you chase them off or call the police. read more

If I could give no stars I would. We were given dirty silverware, which is understandable things happen... but dirty napkins... wow... So we ask our waiter to replace them which he chuckles and does so as he leave us our drinks.. and our cups are dirty... We didn't stay to see what we would fine on our plates. This little cafe, you would miss if you weren't actually looking for it. The staff is nice and helpful. The food was good. I had the Eggs Benedict and it was delicious! It was on what tasted like a mix of a biscuit and an English muffin which was amazing. The sauce was great too. They had a couple specials today that friends tried. The hobo scramble and home fries were good. The blueberry French toast was ok, but he wasn't a fan of the syrupy blueberry sauce; thought it was going to be fresh blueberries. read more

This place is an unassuming hidden treat. My mother and I went to breakfast on a Sunday morning and while the restaurant was full, we were seated immediately. I want to punch someone REAL HARD right now because I had a pretty well-written (for me!) review of Cafe 126. But it was eaten by teh Intarwebz. I also want to punch someone REAL HARD because I'm pretty bummed that I don't live walking distance from some of the best biscuits AND gravy I've had in my fairly short life. So I guess all I'll say for now is that this is a place well worth going. Their corned beef and hash brown dish is prepared by cooking an entire corned beef brisket each day. I sadly didn't have it (this time) because they were already out, but the Mexican scramble (chorizo and egg with other good junk) was a fine alternative. Their sandwich menu is nothing to laugh at, and if you like eggs benedict, they have three versions. Great country potatoes. Open only for lunch and dinner. Very friendly and quick staff. If you love hash try this place but be warned if you potatoes with it (besides what's mixed in the has) make sure to order an extra side. If you are a chili Verde fan try the chili Verde omelette it rocks. Biscuits and gravy is spot on too. Struck with a hankering for some fried chicken a wee bit back I was informed by Greg Y of Cafe 126, and I looked it up. And let me tell you something folks: I'm sure glad I did. I haven't had such low-key crunchy to perfection, lovely song no silly dance fried chicken since way back in the halcyon days of yore when I was traversing through Virginia and I came upon a little inn that did something with buttermilk that I'm pretty sure is criminal west of the Mississippi, but still legal south of the Rio Grande. This place has the yes factor. As soon as you get the idea that you might want to go to cafe 126 in your head, it's over, you must go there asap. It is very very comfortable, no rush, great service, fast coffee refills, quick getting food on your table, but no rushed feeling. Excellent. Food is very filling, and keeps you full for half a day at least. Menu is breakfast and lunch only, I think 126 closes at 2:30 or something like that. read more

Good food! I enjoyed the meal I had and even though it was red meat which I usually don't eat they made it great!

We decided to give this a go for breakfast after reading a number of positive yelp reviews. It's always a good sign when you see a crowd of 20+ milling around in front patiently waiting to be seated at tables on an early Sunday morning. We circumvented the wait by taking two seats at the small counter. The counter was the perfect vantage point to view the feverish nonstop action of the waitresses and short order cooks serving up overflowing plates of every breakfast option imaginable. The biscuits and gravy that seem to accompany every meal are literally and figuratively to die for! Breakfast here isn't for the faint of heart or for anyone who cares about their heart for that matter. Keep your cardiologist on speed dial. The service is prompt, the menu is robust, the food is spot on and the servings are enormous. This would be a 5 star rating if the 60's decor was freshened up a bit. read more

It's the only place within walking distance so we go more than we'd like to...they let their to go phone ring and half the time they hang up on you or take it off the hook. The waitresses have been there forever so they don't feel the need to be too friendly. They take their time don't seem to care..a few neighbors say they've gotten sick and one of my kids refuses to eat there. Today I tried to order n they just hang up or let it ring. I just can't wait for them to build something else we can eat here. It's gone downhill since the owner died even though they opened a second location I've been willing to take the drive just go to 2 trees cafe UPDATE-decided to give it another try. Their point of sale system was experiencing a glitch and successfully n accidentally authorized my debit card SEVEN TIMES and still declined. I guess the waitress kept trying and got some error message. Had to go borrow money and pay it really embarrassing as I was treating a date to lunch. Went home checked my online banking and realized what happened. The manager Lisa had indeed seen it happen before and said they'd fix it. My bank agreed to help fix as well but I had no choice but to let everything run its course and process before any reversals could be done. So in other words my main account with the multiple auths and overdraft fees stayed overdrawn over $300 with the holds almost a week. Things happen but Cafe 126 NEVER apologized, never called me or offer me squat for what they did. I love my steak rare - walk the cow around a few times and it's ready for me - and Cafe 126 always makes it SO good. It's hard to find a good rare steak, and I've never been wronged here. That, and the country fried steak are my go-to, as is Cafe 126. The portions are always generous; I don't think I've ever gotten to the bottom of a beverage without it being promptly refilled. I've never ordered, but have seen and tasted the ham and eggs, and it is so large that it is literally served on three plates. Pretty scrumptious. This is country style cooking at its finest. I seriously felt a little more patriotism eating such fab American diner food! Everything tastes fresh, portions are plentiful, staff is extremely pleasant AND on the ball, and the coffee is good. They also have a model train that goes around the restaurant, so of course the kids were entertained. Kid friendly alert! If you're in the mood for a greasy spoon, check it out. I've rarely had biscuits and gravy this good. If you like bacon, don't get me started. We really like the food here. The ham steak breakfast is great. It takes 3 plates to get all your food. It's a whole piece of ham. And I like the hot roast beef sandwich. Oh Café 126...you are my Holy Grail for chicken fried steak...I've only had better at a restaurant in San Jose called *Bills*... The décor is a little dated, (would be five stars, but they really could use an update) but the shopping center that it is located in is going through a remodel...looks like they will have a proper outdoor patio too. The staff is SO great...very comfy in their environment and always there for whatever you need. OMG...If you are hungry and just want to eat and go home and watch movies on a Sunday afternoon, here is your place! The portions are just mind-blowing and the food is so good you can't stop eating till you are about to pop.... Like I said, I am a true connoisseur of chicken fried steak...have had it all over the country. The meat could be a little better, but the real deal is the perfectly fried crunchy coating...so puffy and crispy...And the gravy...REAL home-made milk gravy... It seems like this place is hit or miss with service but every time I have been here, its been great. Super nice and attentive staff and the food is always great and gets to the table quick! So first off, its true, this dish is service on 3 plates. We brought three people and all shared the one dish. I think we all got our fill too! Plate one is eggs and hashbrowns. Plate two is a biscuit and gravy. Plate 3 is a huge Chicken Fried Steak. The breading was different then most of the Chicken Fried Steaks I have had before and the steak was much thicker then most I have had. BUT those aren't bad things. The breading was really crunchy and not soggy like a lot of Chicken Fried Steaks end up being. The meat was good and not fatty. I can't recommend The 126 Cafe highly enough. If you are in the Ventura area then you should be stopping here for breakfast or lunch! read more

Incredible 1st impression. Just too bad it wasn't an incredibly good impression. A friend of ours had mentioned this place a couple months ago, so I thought we would try it on our way up to Ventura for the street fair on July 4th. We got there around 945 am, and it wasn't really crowded, so the wait wouldn't be too long. I was really looking forward to trying their Country Fried Steak w/Gravy and Eggs! I guess the 1st strike was when someone who had just arrived walked in and got seated. We were waiting right outside the door waiting for them call our name. Tina went in and checked, and our name was already crossed off. They never called us. They had us come in and took us to a table in the back near one of the stations. No big deal, closer to the coffee! We waited a while for menu's, even though a few staff members had come back to the station and grabbed menu's for other tables. After ordering our drinks, we waited a while for that. Of course, we didn't have utensils. A couple of the staff members again had passed us to go to the station and grab utensils for other tables. (beginning to think unless you are a regular customer here, you're on your own or you have to speak up,) I went to the station and grabbed utensils and napkins. When our plates came it looked really good. I tasted the gravy and it was barely warm. As was the CFS, country potatoes and even the biscuits. Then I touch my eggs and they were cold. I called the waitress over and informed her everything was cold. Her comment, and Tina caught it too was, "They're still cold?" And she took my plate. Tina's Denver omelet was hot but the potatoes weren't, or was Christina's breakfast burrito. Austin had pancakes and sausage. The sausage was really good. The butter on the pancakes hadn't even melted when they brought back my plate. The CFS was really good now that it was hot. Crispy batter and actual steak. The gravy was good too. But over all, the poor customer service ruin the entire meal for everyone. It was really disappointing. It was a holiday, but they weren't busy. Otherwise I might be a little more understanding. By far my favorite place to get breakfast in ALL of Ventura county. The pancakes are amazing. The "country breakfast" is an amazing dish consisting of eggs biscuits gravy sausage and hash browns - puts anything you might get anywhere else to shame! Service is downright friendly and fast. Never had any problems with food being late or cold. But they don't just serve breakfast! All there food is the same great quality! If you don't go for breakfast go for the chicken fried steak. Best "country style" breakfast I've had in Ventura; possibly the best I've had anywhere. The biscuits are heavenly, so do not leave this place without trying the biscuits and gravy. I love this place. Reminds me of the diners I grew up with. It is particularly awesome because we have two small kids and they have a little train that goes all around the dining area above you. I also love that they pay homage to our county's past with their vintage citrus label decorations. Oh, and of course the food is exceptional. Breakfast and lunch are both out of this world. You can usually expect huge portions of tasty, tasty food. And Cafe 126 doesn't disappoint. For breakfast I went adventurous and ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs dish. Delivered on 3 plates, this breakfast was more than I could eat...1 plate was reserved for the chicken fried steak, served with a homemade white gravy with bits of ham in it (delish); 1 plate was reserved for the eggs and hashbrowns (hb served crispy on the outside and tender on the inside - - and obviously cooked in butter); 1 plate was served for the biscuit and gravy. Haven't been there In a long time so I met a friend there and it was ok. I had the country breakfast which is biscuits and gravy with sausage and hash browns. The sausage was good and the eggs cooked they way I asked but the biscuit was more like a roll and not a biscuit. The gravy wasn't anything special. Great place! We went here because my daughter-in-law went a couple of days ago and was talking about how good it was.
