The quality of service at Cafe 13 has dropped significantly in the 2.5 years I've been working in Golden. We used to come (even during the heyday of the pandemic) receive solid, attentive service, even during peak lunch hours. Today, my colleague and I placed separate, consecutive a to-go order around 12:15 PM, anticipating we should be back to our office (a 7 min walk) by a 1 PM meeting. I ordered the Thai chicken salad, my colleague ordered a Turkey sandwich. My salad took more than 40 minutes. The employees avoided eye contact on more than one occasion. At 12:50 I asked a different staff member and he said our tickets were up next. It still took 7 minutes to make the salad (which was presumably premade), and 5 more for the sandwich. I understand staffing shortages and lunch rush, but overall, this is not worth the time or the money. We will not be returning, and informing our colleagues not to visit either if they have any sort of respect for their own schedules. In addition: I include two photos of this salad. The one from today is in a to-go box, less than half full with greens. The second picture is from Nov. 1, 2022, when I got this salad to dine-in. Clearly the amount of greens is overflowing in the large serving dish. Suffice it to say, I am disappointed. The management or ownership should really understand that just because they have established a popular place to dine, doesn't mean they should relax in quality and service. Eventually patrons will feel that their time and money are not valued for such (lack of) quality. read more

Coffee was decent. But ordered a chorizo burrito and man that arrived after 25 mins. Not sure what you guys put in it but I had to rush to bathroom twice within 15 mins after having that. Service is say was kinda decent, but if a place closes at 3PM, and if my order arrived 25 mins later then at least let me finish my order before kicking everyone out. read more

This is one of our favorites for lunch. The Reuben and Cuban sandwiches are both excellent. Great quality on both...better than most sandwich-only shops, plus Cafe 13 also has so much more. The salads are also a hit with us. We enjoy their teas as well. The only criticism I'd offer is the price is sometimes just a bit high for the quantity. But, the quality is so good that it's not a big deal, and we keep going back! read more

I want to give this 4 stars but upon reflecting the pros and cons, there were more weighted cons than pros. Cons -Flies were landing all over the pastries and staff was serving them without a flinch. Cover those babies! -A small coffee/tea is TINY... think Dixie cup at a kids party size. Their medium is barely bigger than a Tall at Starbucks. -A to go, unheated croissant took longer to receive than a chai tea because staff forgot about it. -My to go sandwiches - 1 sat there for about 20min until I inquired about where my order was. Then they realized they lost the order for the 2nd sandwich, so had to wait again for that to get made. -Farmer's Sandwich is wimpy and the caramelized onions overpower all flavors. Worth a miss. -Wait for even to go orders is absurdly long. Pros -Super cute higher end diner that is trendily decorated and makes you want to hang out and linger for hours. -Sausage egg croissant sandwich tastes totally different from their croissant pastries but for the better. It's good but not blow my mind amazing. Oily. -Chai tea is nice - best to get a bigger size to actually enjoy it. Mehs -Nutella croissant was more of a danish but still good. -The fridge is stocked sloppily with brand names facing backwards and sideways so you can't easily tell what they're selling. The staff had hair and clothes that were sloppy, the display was sloppy, even napkins were put out still in their plastic wrap. Ok, you're busy.... management needs to wise up and ask at what cost? Cleanliness, aesthetics, and long wait times? I bookmarked this place on my Yelp collections but remembering how lame some of the nuances are makes me not want to come back. read more

Natalie, The female server, has such a horrible and disrespectful personality. She was extremely rude and has no customer service experience whatsoever. If you want to be in hospitality, you must learn customers come first, not you! Never assume anything. Hint you accused me of cheating in line. You told me I don't belong seated until I ordered. Jamie and I met friends here for breakfast to view a friends art on display. The art was fun, our friends were great and we had a wonderful breakfast. We both had pancakes. I also had an espresso. The building is unique - it's the armory - with a Castle design. The space is fun - as they have several rooms. There is quite a lot of items to choose from for breakfast - but not for vegans - though they are very vegetarian friendly. We compromised with our choice for breakfast - and that was okay with us. The pancakes were good, big and we each had 3. We also had blueberries in the pancakes. These pancakes are a large stack. So, be prepared if you order pancakes. read more

Well, it only took about 4 months, but the City of Golden officially has "Sassafras 2"! What started as a simple clean concept has turned into an overpriced dinner, all the way down to cheap utensils and ketchup on the tables in little holsters (god forbid you pay a tip and have some semblance of service). I'm not sure what happened, but that place has just become tacky at best, kind of like when your grandmother takes over a restaurant and makes it gaudy...oh, the window painting really classed it up, eerily similar to Sassafras down the street. read more

Very cool spot, nice decor and good coffee. But something needs to be figured out in the kitchen when 2 burritos takes over an hour to deliver. Signage went up that the food would be up to 45 mins after we had already ordered. Would have loved to know that prior to ordering and taken our business elsewhere. The remodel was worth the wait. I love the new decor and they still feature art from local artists. I recommend the Bhakti Chai, it's amazing. Plus, they have a great selection of milk alternatives to choose from. I'll be back to try their breakfast. read more

Such a disappointment. My son had been raving about this new breakfast place in Golden. Couldn't wait to visit. Went for breakfast on Saturday Aug 17. Most tables were full and there was a small line waiting to order. Noticed a sign on counter that said 35 minute wait. Ok. Decided we'd stay in line and deal with the wait. As we were paying for our order, someone came over to change the sign to 45 minutes. Oh well, wed already ordered and paid. My text receipt was timed 11am. We sat to wait and wait and wait. By 11:45 probably only a third of the tables were full and we had no food. Our drinks were empty. We'd not been offered water. 12:00 passed. One hour. No food. But we were offered water. 12:10 we flagged down someone to check on our food. Finally at 12:12 out came our food. One hour and twelve minutes after ordering. The restaurant only had 5-6 tables. We talking making eggs. How does that take so long?!? read more

Met up at Cafe 13 last week with a local running group and we were warmly welcomed! After we got back from the run, we ordered some drinks and a few bites. The bartender Eliza was extremely personable--not to mention the fact that all of our drinks were delicious. I had the Green Breeze ($9), which is Hendricks Gin, Matcha Green Tea, Cucumber, and Lime. It was perfectly balanced, light and refreshing with just the right amount of gin coming through. read more

I hadn't been to Cafe 13 in about 4 years and they did some great updates! It looked like a new cafe! I went on a Saturday and it was packed, but the to-go line was moving pretty quickly. I got the cafe au lait with vanilla and it was so good! My sister had a taste and liked it so much, she got one too. Just perfectly milky and sweet. I also got a sausage breakfast burrito to-go and they are VERY big! Everything was good! We sat outside and it was perfect for a nice morning. It would be chilly if it was colder because it is in the shade in the morning. We visited again on Sunday and it was busy again! I got the same drink and the bacon breakfast burrito. I preferred the bacon over sausage, but both were good. I liked that they weren't overly cheesy or messy to eat. It was easy to eat on-the-go. Service is good - fast and prompt. No complaints! Disappointed. Passing through CO I decided to come here for breakfast based on the high yelp reviews. Unfortunately, I can't follow suit. My Aussie breakfast was not very good. The hash browns were cold and obviously from a box. The breakfast over all was bland and not the greatest quality. The whole meal seemed a bit thrown together. Since the remodel we've been twice and there isn't a turkey sandwich option, there isn't a Kosher option. Sad to say we will not being coming back no matter how much free food we have been offered, it's not the same. Starbucks is just down the road. Ate here for the first time on Sunday. This place is very cute, has a great menu, and the servers are very nice. Certainly all restaurants are learning how to function in the covid era, and by no means do I know how, however if I could humbly offer some observations that might help future customers be more prepared. 1. The outdoor seating is not "seated" it's first come first service, grab a table when someone gets up. This means that the tables are not being disinfected in any way between guests. 2. You order inside, then go try to find a seat outside... their seating outside is actually pretty big. One area in front of the building and one area to the side. The servers have no idea where you are... so they are just yelling names when they get outside. I saw more than one order get taken back inside because the servers couldn't find the customer. My order was lost in the shuffle and I finally had to go back inside to check on it. The ticket wasn't put in, or was lost. The server took care of it very quickly, however had no idea who I was so I had to watch for him come out with what I guessed was my order to get it. Again, I think this place is great, but given the circumstances I wasn't super comfortable dining here during the pandemic. Others might be, but I'll wait to go back until we come through the other side. read more

Love this place! We are from out of town with a kid at Mines, who recommended Cafe 13 because she likes to study here. We've eaten here twice and everything has been fantastic! Large portions, yummy food and plenty of vegan & gluten free options. My husband is vegan (I mostly am but cheat a little because I am allergic to gluten & it's hard to do both when I'm not at home). Our first morning we both had the vegan breakfast burrito, and my daughters had the Aussie scramble, and the avocado toast. So good. Today we went with a repeat of the Aussie scramble, a couple bagels and the Cafe 13 Hash. I forgot to order a piece of the coffee cake and someone overheard me mention it...she brought me a piece to my table. So sweet! If you're a coffee person...two thumbs up! Great fun location. Parking can be a challenge sometimes considering you are downtown. Nice view of the mountain. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Nice decor. Alcohol is served:) This is not a server/ waiter service. You walk in and order your food at the counter and they bring your food. Very friendly helpful staff. My breakfast burrito was good not great. I just moved here from San Diego so my standards are high. I think my burrito needed a crispy texture added to it. It was a little small too. Wish a few pieces of fruit was served with it. But my eggs were cooked perfectly and very fluffy. I ordered a sandwich to go and that even came with fruit. My Americano coffee was tasty! read more

They happily brought more salsa when requested. It was a ton of food! Could easily have shared and still been full. Hubby got the breakfast burrito with the pork green chili. Such a cute café!! Stopped by for brunch on a Saturday. It was a beautiful day so of course the line was pretty long. If you want to sit outside a their bistro tables be sure to get there early! We waited in line for about 30 minutes or so to order. We got the hashbrowns, bacon, scrambled eggs, and a pancake. It was a pretty good standard breakfast and you can really taste the vanilla they put in the pancakes. The mimosas were a great price but more orange juice than champagne for a mimosa. The views of the mountains are great and this is a dog friendly cafe so be sure to bring your pup if it's not too hot. We will for sure be back to check out the wine list they have! read more

This place is great! Line is long to order but that means you don't wait as long for your food to come. The cinnamon rolls look unbelievably delicious but I've never actually tried one. I wanted too but they are so big I knew I couldn't eat the whole thing with just two people. I had the veggie hash which was roasted perfectly and flavorful. They have gluten free and vegan options. Along with any type of coffee you could want you can also get a mock tail, which is a treat I often indulge in the morning. I woukd recommend this place! read more
