Cafe 13 has continued its cost cutting efforts. Today's Golden plate special arrived with only 3 rashes of bacon instead of 5 that was the norm for years. Also they cut the amount of hashbrowns to about 1/3 of the past norm. They use to have crafts of hot coffee you could help yourself to while waiting for your food. No longer. Cafe 13 what can I say, I've loved you every time I ride up to Lookout mountain on my road bike. It's the perfect cuppa ssspresso before the lung busting ascent of Lookout to the reward of healthy goodness post ride; from the muffins, cookies and okay that's all I eat after wards but you get my drift. 13 is quirky it has the perfect amount of cool for the cyclist, college students and their parents wondering about where the kids are spending all of their money. Now for me I'm up there early but they close about 2:00pm so keep that in mind. Check them out sit outside and watch the cyclists getting ready to assault the mountain or even better listen to the stories afterward!!!! So incredibly disappointed in this place! Imagine coming to a cafe to get breakfast, standing in line for 40 minutes, only to not order anything from the actual menu upon hearing it would take an additional 30 min to prepare. What a joke! I was told that croissants would also take 30 min to take out, so I had to select from the 4-5 pastry options in the display case. Who has this kind of time to wait an hour plus just to receive the food? There were lots of staff members doing various things and one person was just standing and folding napkins. I guess the rest of the patrons didn't mind spending an hour plus waiting for their food, but I certainly felt a huge amount of disappointment. Hopefully management will take notice and train the staff to work more efficiently to avoid situations like this one. read more

Another update: the staff here are awesome. So friendly, and knowledgeable about coffee. Removed 2 stars because they are not using conscious coffee anymore, and the replacement is just OK, not amazing. No longer my favorite coffee in denver. However, I added back 1 star because the vibe and remodel are excellent. This is my favorite place to get work done in golden now! Also happy that theres a couple more vegan options. Cafe 13 is a cute, cozy place with plenty of different areas to sit, and has a menu with plenty of breakfast and coffee options to make everyone happy. I went with an everything bagel with egg, cheese, and vegetarian sausage patty. Topped with some Cholula hot sauce, it was a perfectly capable breakfast to start my day. Had my friend and I had more time available to just sit around, there were a few nice areas around the property to sit, including a shaded outdoor area and a nice living room-type area. My friend and I sat right in the area where you order the food which didn't have the coziness of the other two areas, but was suitable enough. I'm not huge into breakfast food, but it would definitely be worth another visit when I find myself back in the Golden area. read more

This is a nice little place. It's cute and has this almost prohibition vibe to it. They have several different separated rooms for seating and it feels private. I had the breakfast burrito, which was very good but it lacked cheese on the inside and appropriate sauce. Picky, I know, but that's where it's at. Such a cute brunch spot! As a vegan, I was happy to see some options for myself so I could eat along with my non-vegan dining companions. I ordered the Fall Hash with Scrambled Tofu, and it did the job. The scrambled tofu was okay, but the vegetables were very flavorful and were my favorite part of the meal. :) We also got a vegan strawberry scone to share, and we finished it before I could take a picture of it, so I guess you could say we enjoyed it! My bf ordered the Fully Loaded Biscuits and Gravy, and he said they were amazing and full of flavor. My friend ordered the the Fully Loaded Avocado Toast, and she seemed to be thrilled with her meal as well. Went to this place based on yelp reviews (the good ones) and was not disappointed. Went at 9am on a Tuesday and there was a short line and plenty of seating. Knowing the walk up order format going in was helpful. You have to look for the printed food menus because they only have Drinks in their overhead board. I had the Tex mex scramble and a delicious chocolate croissant. Others had the oatmeal and veggie scramble. All were excellent, served hot and timely. I will give it a five star rating after I have repeated positive visits. Yum. Give it a try. I've visited a few times now. Good coffee and nice work spaces. However, I feel lucky when I don't have to clean up after previous customers to be able to sit at a clean table. This would be a great place to to study or get some work done but WiFi is unreliable and time limited. I enjoy reading reviews and I find it somewhat entertaining (as well as a little off-putting) the way ownership has responded to some customers' complaints. Criticism is hard to take, especially when its coming from a faceless person through social media who may be disgruntled. With that being said, it is an opportunity for owners and management to take note and improve the customer experience. I don't see that from the ownership of this cafe. read more
