We came with our family as we were passing through Lucerne Valley. We could smell the smokers from the car and turned around to check it out. We ended up ordering two sampler platters. We chose one pork and one beef for variety. It came with trip tip, sausage, and ribs with sides of corn on the cob and beans. To say that it was fall of the bone good would be an understatement. The food was so tender and juicy. It was literally taken straight out of the smoker. The food was excellent. The owner Dennis came by to check on everything. When we told him how good everything was he offered us more. We graciously obliged. He wanted too make sure were went leaving hungry. Best tri tip sandwich on the planet, and the homemade chips are da bomb, though in all fairness everything that I tried there was very very good. Do yourself a flavor weather your hungry our not, stop in and get something you won't be sorry. A cool little place with a just right vibe. The owners, husband and wife team AL and Kathy are wonderful people and bless the whole valley with their presence, and their crew of great people are totally on point. I always order my lunch over the phone and drive from the elementary school to pick it up on my lunch break. Its always ready and always correct. The staff is friendly I just with the prices weren't so high. I haven't eaten at very many Lucerne Valley places but this place is yummy. read more

Stopped by on the literal hottest day of my life. Hoping that won't impact my review at all. We sat outside-crazy I know! It was self seating and tables were in the dirt, again it was hotttttt. BBQ area is outside also so any breeze your hoping for basically just blows all the smoke over and makes things worse. I think it would be great if they added misters outside. I might have just gone on the worst day of the year, but I think that would definitely help out. The food came out pretty quick but BBQ was overly salted. Total bummer but beers are available by the bucket so that won me over. Tried the infamous Oreo churros and they really just didn't cut it. They were black like Oreo's but missing something. On the other hand the owner was very personable. I watched her go table to table and make conversation with customers. I though that was awesome, you don't see that often. There were two doors for restrooms inside and they were occupied the entire time I was there. I think it was only 1 stall each so understandable but every time I walked in there was a line of people waiting. The cafe is literally in the middle of nowhere so if you have to go you have to wait. After making a few unsuccessful trips inside I was told there were port o pottys outside. I wasn't overly thrilled but did what I had to given the situation. Literally, the cleanest port o pottys I have even been in. Strange observation, sure! But it worked out. Overall, I think it's awesome an independently owned restaurant has been able to stand the test of time. I love places that are family owned and operated. The owner seemed to be pleasant and very involved so that is definitely something to recognize. They identified a problem with the restrooms situation and found a solution. Cutting through the valley en route to Bakersfield, we decided to stop and try them out. Their sign boasted the "greatist" (sic) burgers, and wanted to check that out. Food did take some time, but the staff seemed to be quite small. However, very pleasant as we're all of the patrons - who all seemed to know each other. A little bit of nasty in the middle of nowhere... I really like out of the way places...sometimes you find some real culinary gems. In the case of Cafe 247...well, let's just say you might want to skip it on your way to off-roading heaven. The food is course, greasy and frankly, a bit tasteless. I have eaten there a few times (hoping that the next will be better than the last)...and it has always been less than stellar. And let's not forget to mention the service...they couldn't get an order right if they had a road map and an instruction booklet. I don't get it. I've tried this place several times because they were the only ones out here with Wi-Fi. Not only is the Wi-Fi super slow, if you can get on at all, I found the owner to be rude and the food to be disgusting. I did not know you could screw up fried zucchini. Honestly, I've never had anything like them before. They were indescribable, not to mention very expensive for the portion. The hamburger in the tacos and other food must be the red-slime variety as it is just gross with no flavor whatsoever. They definitely don't season their food. The taco salads are tiny. The french fries taste like they have been cooked in old grease. I also don't like going into a sit-down restaurant and being served on paper plates. They don't have a dishwasher or so that is what one of the employees told a customer one day when I was there. This place does a very good business both among locals and the off-roading crowd. I really don't get it. I guess it is easier to eat bad food than it is to drive into town. read more

The fiancé was craving ice cream after our Sunday spent at Big Bear. We drove past this place and I saw a sign, pointed and said, "Look!" "ICE CREAM!" He almost slammed on the brakes, but we were towing a boat. So he drove until he could turn around safely. My daughter had an oreo shake and my son had a cone. The large cone REALLY is a large size. It was true to its name. The fiancé had a sundae and I had the banana shake. IT WAS DELICIOUS! I was expecting vanilla ice cream with banana flavoring. Nope. It had REAL bananas in it. We weren't hungry because we had a picnic before we left Big Bear, but the burgers that were coming out of the kitchen smelled delicious. We will definitely stop in next time we're in the area. They have a seating area outside. We brought our pup along on the trip and don't like to leave him in the car. So it was nice to have that option. The staff was friendly as well. read more

In a homogenized and shrink wrapped world I like to try to find the funky, the homey, and the non corporate alternatives. This place is certainly out of the way - but the burgers and fries are GREAT! And the prices are actually lower than a lot of the crappy franchise chains (You listening Ronald?). May not look like much from the outside but they are wizards at combining ingredients to provide a savory lunch at a really reasonable price - it's going to be my go to stop when I travel from Las Vegas to Palm Springs - really excellent lunch! read more

We stopped here for a late breakfast on our way up to Big Bear. Even though it was after 11:00 they accommodated us and made us the breakfast special anyway. The food was delicious! Other reviews are completely true! The food is laughably overpriced, the bbq is like pouring a container of salt in your mouth and the meat is fatty and tough. I really cannot think of a single reason to support this tourist trap. The owners are rude to other business owners in town, apparently they don't realize it's bad business to treat people who have lived in this town their whole lives like garbage. If you read other reviews on here they don't agree with, they get downright nasty. I really wanted to love this place because it is a fun idea. Unfortunately after about 10 visits I'm going to give up. I like the way the restaurant is set up, the setting is fun and it shouts, come as you are have some fun and good food with friends. The food to me disappoints from that greatness that I imagined. I think with more attention to the food quality this place could deliver 5 stars. The pulled pork sandwich that I had yesterday afternoon made me sick. I have not been sick in 10 years at least. This place was much better when it was known as Pops & Pams. Now it should be called Slops and Crap. Too bad, actually. It's in a great location, at the intersection of State Highways 18 and 247, the gateway to the high desert and Big Bear/Lake Arrowhead. I've had the misfortune to eat there twice: once for breakfast (vomit, see Holly L's description) and once last Fall for a simple order of chili-cheese fries (Sysco frozen fries and nasty brick style chili.... gaggy). At least the diced onions were fresh. If you're in Lucerne Valley and jonesing for burger fare or some good chili, stick with The Burger Depot at the West end of town. read more

My friend and I had the pleasure of stopping here for a quick brunch before completing our drive from Palm Springs to San Mateo. We were pleasantly surprised to find that they had free wifi, delicious reasonably priced food and excellent coffee. We ordered a breakfast burrito that contained a hash brown, egg, sausage and gravy and 1/2 order of biscuits and gravy with a side of chicken fried steak. Wow, were they delicious. Granted, the place is not fancy but it was clean and homey to say the least. The restrooms were clean and well stocked. Joanne, the cook, was very friendly and accommodating. Where else can you get a hot dog or corn dog for $1.29??? There's a number of Mexican dishes that can be had for very reasonable prices. If you ever happen to be traveling on 247, keep an eye out for Cafe 247 located at the intersection with the first stop light! read more
