This was the first time my dad had Greek food and he loved it. We had the Saganaki which was different then I've had before. The servers made a production of flaming it up which is fun. I tasted the brandy more than at other restaurants. I had the moussaka platter. The moussaka was good but the platter also included the makings of gyros. Personally, I would have preferred a bigger portion of the moussaka. Dad got the Greek sausage gyro and really enjoyed it. We got the baklava to go because we were full. We had it cold later and it was good. The server was probably the best part to me. I've had better Greek food before. But our server, I wish I could remember his name (Steve?), was good at suggesting items and was very respectful of my older father. He was very nice and checked on us at just the right intervals. This place was horrible! The waiter rushed us through the meal, and my moussaka was cold. He brought me another helping of it, but it was cold again. I was not finished eating, and the staff started cleaning 20 minutes prior to closing. As noxious chemicals were all around me, I finished my meal. I went outside to breathe, and then came back in. Another waitress offered to seat me 5 minutes prior to closing. Why? So they could take my money, give me cold food, and then continue cleaning? I will never go to this place again. read more

Best fries in northern Colorado. Hands down. We love Cafe Athens. My kids love the burgers. I love the salads and gyros. The hummus and pita appetizer is a family favorite. I like that you can specialize your meal and the waiter/waitress doesn't mind at all. I don't like onions and prefer the sauce on the side. No problem. My husband likes the sauce but has them hold feta, olives and tomatoes. No problem. They're just so accommodating. Food is fast and fresh. The souvlaki is so delicious here. Celebrated a birthday here. Was not disappointed. Enjoyed the atmosphere. Tried the Saganaki. Delicious! Repeating this is a must. The kebabs were tender and flavorful. Also had the Greek nachos- very tasty and a huge serving. Took some home and made another meal out of the nachos. Server was friendly, welcoming and attentive. I've never ordered anything but a gyro plate here. I usually get a side of spinach rice. The husband got the orzo as a side and I enjoyed it also. Too much lettuce on the gyro for sure... I don't think it should be in there at all actually. read more

I've been to this location twice, and the other location in Fort Collins about 10 times. Save your palette and go to Fort Collins. I don't know why but this location has horrible service and the food doesn't even compare. I have a hard time staying away from this addictive restaurant . We've gotten to the point where we don't even need to look at a menu. Their phenomenally cooked to perfection gyros always hit the spot. We're normally full half way through, but we just cannot stop! We have to finish our God given Greek gyros; although they are a nice left over. Another HUGE reason we come to this particular 5 star cuisine establishment is because of Stephen. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars was: Dolmathes served chilled (most places serve warm) and these had no ground lamb that I could detect. Baklava is very tasty and not out of a box, but was a bit stiff, might have been waiting a while to be ordered. So people, order more baklava so it will be fresher! On plus side, the tsatziki sauce was mild and light on the tongue, the moussaka also subtly flavored and not the thick, impenetrable bechamel found in other places. Hummus mild, and perfect consistency for going on the delightful fresh pitas mentioned elsewhere. Gyros meat, meaty, no bad end pieces, moist and tender. Spanikopita, delicious, the filo is firm enough to hold the contents but doesn't fight you while eating it. I'll be back for sure, with friends! read more

My wife and daughter found the store in Johnstown a few weeks ago. In my opinion, it is the best Greek place in the Denver area. We have been there 3 times in the last month and everything we tried has been excellent! I am from Chicago where Greek food (Gyro's off the spit) was available at many corner shops. It's hard to find here, and when you do find a store, the portions are typically small. We now get a 'to-go' pack after we eat so we can enjoy later. Excited to hear Cafe Athens may be looking for a location in north Denver suburb ! Yeah !! read more

We have traveled to Loveland twice in the last year and have eaten here both times. We had the traditional gyros the first time and the traditional and chicken gyros this time - they were all very good! This time, the restaurant was packed and our order got misplaced. The manager of the restaurant gave us our meal free because of this mistake. Thanks for the great customer service. This used to be our favorite spot for once-a-week takeout. Y-Vonne and Deirdre were always friendly and professional and the food was consistently great. Stopped by tonight got a server who barely spoke English. I slowly and specifically ordered a breakfast gyro and a hot and spicy gyro. He brought out one hot and spicy breakfast. I explained to him that I wanted one of each and pointed to each one of the menu. He said he understood and that he would get it fixed. I got home and ended up with nothing even close to what I ordered. I called and asked for a manager, and was told that one wouldn't be in until Wednesday, and that he would be pretty busy, so it might take him a while to respond. I'm very rarely one to complain or send food back, but this was unacceptable. read more

Heat and Serve food. I am not sure if anything is made in house other than MAYBE the tzatziki and the salad. Anything fried is frozen and the gyro meat is bought from a wholesaler (Renzios). I've been to Cafe Athens multiple times. I love their pitas and hummus. I always get the traditional gyro, no complaints from me. My husband always seems to get the lamb kebabs. The prices are very reasonable. I should branch out more and try other things on their menu, but I go there when I'm wanting a gyro. I will keep coming back. read more

Don't bother if you can't have gluten. Not even the hummus is safe. They have about 7 menu items and that is it.

The food here is wonderful, very comparable to Garbanzos but more authentic. The cafe is set up nicely and in a great location.

We have been going to this restaurant since we started dating. In fact, we like to come here every so often to commemorate one of our first dates. But today, after watching the server visit three different tables, drop checks, grab to-go boxes, and chat while we waited for 12 minutes, we will not be back. I used to get gyros at this guy's place in the mall (which I think is closed now) and this is just a more upscale and more expensive version of that basically. First time we've ever ordered (delivery) from here. We bought two sandwiches with one side of fries. They sent us one sandwich with two sides of fries. When we called them to rectify the situation the rude girl on the phone told us she packed our order and knew it was right, and that we could drive in and pick up the missing sandwich if we wanted it. We asked her to replace the entire meal if we had to drive there since we paid a delivery fee and a tip, and considering every other item would be ruined by the time we could get home with the missing sandwich. I have gone here many times, and it was always very good but today when I ordered my usual chicken salad, the chicken was stringy and literally disintegrated in my mouth. It was disgusting. They used to have really good big chunks of chicken, but I haven't been here in awhile, so I don't know when they changed, but it's definitely worse. I've been here set Real times before and it's still very good. We had 10 people in our party and the service was helpful, funny, and quick. Drinks and food came out quickly and our server had made us laugh the whole time. I would give it 5 stars, however the atmosphere was ok, not the best. I was comfortable though. Pretty good. It will be a nice place for us to pick up some take-out. I think I would order the Gyro sandwich next time as it comes with more food. The salad that my entree came with was pretty bland with no dressing at all. The Gyro Platter also came with steamed vegetables, but they were not very good. We went for lunch, ordered the saganaki, gyro and falafel gyro. Make sure you let the fire die down on the saganaki and shake the bowl to keep the fire going, otherwise your cheese will taste like rubbing alcohol.
