I was in Loveland on business and found this place via Yelp. Thanks, Yelp! It's kind of a hole-in-the-wall place buried one street back from the main drag in one of the massive Centerra shopping centers. Go into the main entrance, then turn left at the first stop sign - Cafe Athens is at the end of the building. It looks like you can get to it from another way, too, but we didn't go that way so I can't tell you. It was pretty quiet in there (we were there around 5:30, probably before the bigger dinner crowds) and we were seated immediately. The place is clean and the smells that pleasantly assault you when you enter will make you hungry if you weren't when you got there. The service can be slow, but they are friendly and bring you what you need without attitude. We ordered the sampler appetizer platter, which had huge helpings of hummus (very good!), pita bread triangles and pita crackers, falafel, spanokopita (very yummy!), dolmades, olives, some Greek salad, seasoned lamb gyro meat, and one other thing I'm forgetting. We intended to get meals, too, but were too full after that appetizer and the Greek salad we shared. The spanokopita and the other one like it (only feta in it, no spinach) were incredible. The phyllo was flaky and fresh and the filling was very tasty. The dolmades were good, but the fig leaves had a minty taste that we didn't like as much. It was a bit strong. The hummus was very good, and the serving of it was huge even though the menu says it's a 'small side.' I'm generally not a fan of falaffel, but theirs was very good. The Greek salad was huge and all of the ingredients were very fresh. They served it with a tsatsiki dressing on the side, with plenty to spare. We ordered the Greek sugar cookies and baklava to go. OMG, they were AMAZING. I'm still dreaming about those cookies. The baklava was very good, but it was heavy - in retrospect, we could have gotten one to share instead of one for each of us. I have been to this place too many times to count. It never disappoints. Get the Gyro value meal with fries and drink. You will love it! The Gyros are big and flavorful and crisp, hot fries are the best I've had anywhere. The service is always quick and prices low. There's even a coupon in your value pac coupons you get in the mail which always saves me a few bucks. It's hard for us to go anywhere else when we are out at Centerra. Love the gyro with tzatziki and feta! My sis and I enjoyed the food so much that we ate here twice during our recent trip to Loveland. The falafel is also very tasty, so don't be afraid to give it a try as well. Yum...this place makes tasty food that you feel is good for you! Twice, I have gotten the Souvlaki Gyros meal and found there is enough lamb in this pita sandwich to get some in each bite. The side salad is a great mixture of textures with greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, olives, and feta cheese. I wish the baklava was more authentic -- with pistachios rather than walnuts. They have some shaded outdoor seating and tons of indoor seating. The place is very well lit with lots of windows and looks very clean. read more

Updating review because I went back. It was hard for me to want to write this but I couldn't get over how poorly I was treated in comparison to how we were treated the first time we came. During lunch it was very busy. There was this waitress with red long curly hair that came up to me to take my order all aggressively I guess because maybe she was stressed because it was busy. I love Greek/Israeli food so I pretty much already knew what I wanted and just had questions on what sides the dishes came with. It came with salad and as a side option you get another side which I just wanted another salad. Apparently you can't do that because she started look at me all crazy and to get agitated and start literally yelling at me telling me that IT COMES ALREADY WITH A SALAD. Yes. I know. So because it was too hard to get two servings of salad I just ordered the first side that was mentioned and dropped it. I spent over $60 in that establishment on LUNCH for me and my spouse. When I went outside to take a phone call after my order was rudely taken, who was outside on her cell phone? You guessed it. The rude waitress that JUST 30 seconds ago took my order. Now I know that it is physically impossible in the time that she walked away and I walked outside and she was ALREADY there on her cell phone that she didn't put in my order yet and the reason why she was aggressive in trying to get me to hurry up with my order like me paying/contributing money to the establishment she works at was such a inconvenience was because she obviously was preoccupied with whoever was on her phone. Take a break if you need to make a phone call. You don't treat people who easily spend anywhere from $60-120 every time they come (not including tip) like crap. Won't be back unless that girl is gone. She shouldn't work in customer service. Original post Definitely will be here again. I usually like Cafe Athens, but was rather disappointed this time. The server took orders from people that were seated after us and it took over 40 mins to get our food. Gyro platter, gyro salad and burger and fries. Not really sure what happened but we were really late getting to our next adventure of the day. We also got the appetizer for the table next to us because the waiter put the wrong table number on that order. The food was also not up to par that day either. Gyro meat was dry and overcooked. I used to live in Greece for 16 years and I'm addicted to Greek food. I moved to Colorado 3 years ago and Cafe Athens is my favorite restaurant in Colorado. I had placed a big order the other day with special requests for my moms birthday so that I could transport to Frederick and assemble at home so the bread didn't get soggy. I have been going to Café Athens for well over a year now. The food is excellent and the service is fantastic. You get a high quality, tasty meal for an extremely reasonable price. The beef gyros with feta cheese is my favorite. They have a great selection of beer and wine including hard to find wine from Greece. They offer homemade soups that are made from scratch daily. If you are in the area of Centerra mall in Loveland or the mall on Harmony rd in Fort Collins (right next to 5 guys burgers) I urge you to stop in for a wonderful meal with outstanding fast friendly service at an incredible low price. Went there tonight on a date with my husband. What an awesome change of pace! We were able to get wine and beer, service was quick, and food was yummy and plentiful (and healthy...how refreshing is that?)! Nice service, too...not overbearing, authentic people who seem invested in the restaurant. My husband had a sandwich on pita bread and I had a gyro salad. Plenty leftover for lunch tomorrow. Dropped in with my wife and the wasn't to sure of the place. Very open and cafe like but then the food came and the quality and flavor won me over. Last week my wife and I ate at cafe Athens. Food was really good I would recommend the appetizer sampler it's huge it really could be a stand alone meal. Every thing on it was incredible. Thankfully I left room for my main course because my gyro and my wife were great. If you like spicy food ask for your gyro to be spicy. Very good. Fries can't be beat either. I visited Cafe Athens with my wife a few weeks ago. I would like to comment on how consistently great they have been. I always get the gyro meal, great value for 10 bucks, and have never been disappointed. You get a good portion of meat and the fries are always hot and tasty. The staff is always attentive and helpful, without being overbearing. You can sit down and enjoy a nice meal or you can get a great meal to go with quick service. The food was decent but the server was snarky and borderline rude. Our waiter first informed us that we entered through "the wrong door." Then he was snippy in informing us that they don't have a baby changer in the restroom due to "legal reasons" and "sanitation issues" that they "just don't want to deal with." And finally, when we requested extra napkins, the waiter seemed irritated and plopped them down onto our table without a word. *If* I return to this restaurant, I will specifically request any other server than the one we had. Very disappointing. Have been at this location before but have not had a bad experience until now. The service was blatantly rude. After seating us, the gentleman who appeared to be a manager, proceeded to stand feet from us discussing video games with a coworker. We sat for ten minutes without anyone taking our drink order or bringing us water. There was only one other group of people in the place so they were obviously not busy. We ended up walking out due to lack of service. We left feeling disrespected and hungry. The staff acted as though they did not want our business. If I could give zero stars I would. I ordered a pizza and didn't get what I ordered, light sauce sausage and olives. When it arrived, looked great but had tomatoes and onions and peppers. When the replacement arrived it had no sauce and maybe 12 shreds of cheese. The manager was afraid of her own shadow and when leaving the cook was mouthing off loud enough for us to hear about "that's what you get for asking for something special".
