Out for a date night with my wife, we were seated next to a family of 9 with a crying baby. That cried our entire dinner. The entire dinner. The restaurant was understaffed and our waitress literally was running between rooms to try to keep up with service. Our drinks took unusually long to receive and my drink was not what I ordered. At one point the family next to us kept putting their baby stroller in the narrow isle used by the waitstaff to get between rooms, despite the waitstaff continuously moving it out of the way. Eventually a food runner ran into the stroller and knocked into our table spilling olive oil all over the table. When we got our bill, we were overcharged for our wine. When I pointed this out to the waitress, she returned with attitude to tell me it rang up correctly, but the menu prices were wrong. Seriously? Just apologize and fix the bill, and don't make it seem like it was my fault for pointing out the restaurant's error. I should have taken the cue from the couple seated behind us and just got the hell out before ordering rather than endure this awful experience. read more

Stopped in for dinner, and even though it was 6:30 on a Friday night, it was easy to get a table. Nice atmosphere, though it did get a little loud as it got later and more diners came in. Our server was very polite and well-informed about the menu, and the service was quick. We ordered two rounds of tapas, and everything was delicious! I especially liked the saffron vinaigrette which came on a salad with the baby lamb chops and the salty gorgonzola sauce on the haricots verts. Everything was so flavorful, that we ended up asking for more bread to mop up every last bit! Overall, I was very pleased and highly recommend this eatery. VERY disappointed in the service at this place. The restaurant itself was nice enough, great ambiance and good food, but the service left a lot to be desired. We were greeted by the host who was not very friendly from the start. Anyway he seated us & all was well when our waiter took over, who was super friendly and nice--gave us great suggestions for what to order including for our 3-year old daughter. The food was pretty good - shrimp & ratatouille tapas; my husband's crab cakes were yummy; and my seafood stew was good, though I've had better. The worst happened when we got drinks. I got our waiter's recommendation- the key lime martini, which was like key lime pie in a glass--absolutely delicious. But when I ordered a second glass, they brought it to me spilling out of the glass--looked like someone had thrown up all over the glass and the napkins they brought it on. It was so messy that the host (same rude guy) had to carefully bring it over. That itself was fine, I didn't mind it too much. Though at such an expensive place you'd think they'd have poured me another drink or at least transferred it to a clean glass. Anyway I could get over all that, until I accidentally dropped the glass & spilled half the drink - mostly because the table they seated our party of 3 at was so tiny and set up right up against a pillar that there was no elbow room. One of the waiters picked up the glass and he was nice but the host came over to clean the mess & when I apologized to him, he didn't utter a word of even acknowledge my apology. It's not like I dropped it on purpose - the least he could do was acknowledge my apology, especially when he didn't even bother to apologize when he served me the drink in a dirty glass that was spilling all over & sticky to the touch. Worst of all, they didn't offer to bring me a replacement (most upscale, OVERPRICED restaurants like this one would have brought a replacement unasked) and charged me the FULL PRICE for the drink. I don't think our waiter was involved in this bad treatment and probably wasn't even aware of the spilled drink, so I completely blame this on the horrid host. This is the kind of service (or disservice?) that leaves a BAD TASTE in your mouth no matter the taste of the food. NOT going back here. read more

Went last night for Thursday night steak night. So I lower expectations on "specials" nights. We enjoyed the meal, but there were issues. We ordered our drinks and ordered our entrees at the same time. Our drink order wait was making us a little antsy and when they finally arrived, instead of a ginger ale, my partner was served some sort of ginger martini. That faux pas was quickly corrected. Then 10 or 15 minutes later our waiter returned to ask if we were ready to order, when we already had. After that, he got his head in the game and we did not hold it against him. The entrees we received were excellent except that I ordered a filet with ratatouille and roasted potatoes so I could keep it healthy. What I received was a delicious filet with some sort of onion concoction which tasted good but did not even remotely resemble ratatouille. And then it was topped off with what our waiter described as "steak frites." Sorry but if I wanted French fries, I would have ordered them. So much for eating healthy. All in all, not a horrible experience, but not satisfying either. read more

Had Friday night dinner and went back for Sunday breakfast. I liked the idea of tapas and especially liked that there was no wait. Dinner: I started with a pomegranate fizz and gf had the red sangria. The fruit in the sangria is slivered, which I've never seen before. My pomegranate fizz was delicious. They give you some olives to snack on and then warm sliced bread with olive oil. Grilled romaine caesar was plenty for 2 and had great grill flavor. Tapas: -Grilled corn with a creamy topping!! I've never seen this as a tapa. Soooo good. Get a steak knife and you can easily cut the kernels off. -The gnocchi was outstanding and I am not a gnocchi person. -Fish tacos: 2 large tacos. They didn't look that appetizing but tasted great. -Lamb chops: gf says grilled properly and served with a really good salad of sliced apple, chickpeas, and greens For breakfast, gf had iced coffee. We shared the ample pastry plate for 2. The croissant was delicious and warm, and went perfectly with the soft cinnamon butter. The scones were also warm and very good, and we're not usually into scones. Also included a slice of zucchini bread and a blueberry muffin. She had the chorizo hash and I had the greek omelette, which were both good, the omelette was nice and fluffy. If I went back, I think I'd go for an egg sandwich on a croissant. read more

We have been coming to Rehoboth for our beach time since the 70's. So we have tried many of the restaurants. This one is worth going back as the tapas menu is diverse and welcoming. We were not that hungry so tried the griled caesar salad, asparagus with serrano jamon (ham), and the shrimp tapas. The shrimp was good but not great. The asparagus was cooked perfectly and tasted great. I didn't try the ham as i don't eat meat but my wife says it was good too. The grilled salad was excellent. We had a couple drinks and were stuffed. Food came quickly as is standard with tapas. Great service, nice staff. We opted to be seated right away so were outside on the screened patio. It was spacious and pleasant. We will return. read more

Incredible, peaceful escape from the overwhelming boardwalk! We sat outside on the patio, which has netting to keep the mosquitoes away as well as overhead fans to keep you cool. The service was great and quick, and our server answered our questions without judgement as we have never had tapas before. The portions were huge! Definitely order less than you think you need - you'll end up with more food than you would expect. We enjoyed the grilled Caesar salad, calamari, scallops and the La Mancha platter, all delicious while being light and filling at the same time. My husband and I arrived before 6pm for early supper and the restaurant was practically empty. The waiter asked if we have a reservation. I thought he was joking. He then lead us to the backroom of the restaurants where two other couples were dining. Another waitress served us and was just as rude. The food was good but the service was so disappointing. By the time we left, we realized the front room had many guests and was quite full. I can't help but noticed the front room was full of well dressed white patrons. It then dawn on us there we were `underdressed' and were sent to sit with other lovely but underdressed or same sex couples. Don't come here. Staff are prejudiced. read more

This place as been a part of Rehoboth for quite some time, it was always a favorite breakfast brunch spot for us when they provided that (they no longer do), so with the pandemic and all it had been a while since we have gone here for dinner. We went pre-theater (located right next door) and had a wonderful meal. The drinks David the bartender poured were generous and well done. We had the beet and apple salads to start and they were great, lots of leafy greens and toppings. For mains it was the beef short ribs and the rockfish a la Plancha and they both were perfectly executed. The beef shortfrib and super fork tender and I cleaned by plate. The rockfish with it's curry sauce are very aromatic. We split the yummy coconut Smith Island cake for dessert, as we were both too full to each have our own. Our server was on point for the entire evening. It's great to see they are keeping up the good work here, give it a try! read more

First off, looking at the menu I was somewhat reluctant choosing this restaurant simply because of the somewhat lacking of dishes but I'll tell you what, it was fine with me. I ordered the smoked mozzarella and asparagus ravioli and I'll tell ya if you were sent to heaven this dish would be waiting at heavens door for you to enjoy this creamy seasoned perfect amazing dish! I came to Rehoboth to celebrate my birthday which happens to be out of season so I was a bit concerned about having quality restaurants open - it's two weeks shy of Christmas. Checked yelp and found this adorable place for lunch. Their grilled Caesar salad was amazing. I included a piece of salmon with mine. The tapenade croutons add so much flavor. The salmon was cooked EXACTLY as I would have cooked it and I didn't need to say a word. This chef knew how to cook a piece of fish! Everything about this salad was perfect as was the sweet woman who waited on me. Next time I'm in Rehoboth, I will certainly come back. Food was outstanding. read more

Attempted to eat here last night and was told that we could sit at the bar but you might not get served because we didn't have a reservation and there were 3 reservations that had not shown up yet but they would take precedence when they did. We walked in the place not sure if we wanted to stay..... they welcomed us gracefully... the four of us sat down and were very hungry after a long beautiful beach day. Our waitress was very pleasant, (Cameron) came around a few times before we knew what we wanted since the "kitchen" was closing soon. We got some olives to start complementary on the house, it was a great start! They were delicious. Bottle of wine from (Anciana)!!! Was delish as well. We ordered cheese & Jambon plate with white beans and veal sausage as apps.... bravo was beyond tasty! They brought us some bread but I had to send it back for double toasted... we also got the lamb chops & short rib sliders... ( the sliders were only okaaaay) for dinner we got duck & fish ( Halibut ). They were able to substitute all the sides that would've come with the steak. Man oh man our dinner was absolutely fantastic! The duck was out of this world & cooked to perfection and the mashed potatoes and asparagus were just so tasty and crunchy. Overall the food was amazing. I thought we had arrived too late and they wanted to close the kitchen.. we thought they probably would quickly put something together HOWEVER I was wrong! Major complements to the chief our dinner was so tasty. Thank you... we will come back. Two visits made a few days apart. The first was to visit David the bartender who I heard was tending bar here, previously from Amuse. Had a wonderful visit, two great tapas, and a great beer. A wonderful meal. So I decided to take my wife there a few days later. Walked in on a Thursday evening, at 454. Place was just setting up, asked to sit at bar. No we did not have a reservation. A a loud discussion with staff, made us uncomfortable, but we were told we needed to sit on specific stools at the bar. We fid and then bartender arrived and rudely asked who we were, and said we couldn't sit there. Now this is a totally empty establishment. Everyone was so rude. We calmly got up and took our business elsewhere. We had a wonderful evening at the bar at Drift. We are residents of City of Rehoboth. We eat out every night. We will NEVER set foot into Azafran again. The staff is rude. And the female bartender is beyond rude. Beware. read more

We enjoyed lunch today at Cafe Azafran, our first visit. The staff was friendly and the chef stopped by to chat. We shared the Mediterranean platter which had a good variety of cheeses, ham and several veggies and mixes. My wife ordered ratatouille with some caution as she makes her own. The Cafe was excellent and used different spices. She compared her recipe with the chef who shared his. My daughter-in-law had a cup of cheese soup. It was excellent. The cheesemonger next door sent my friend and me here for cocktails. We were really looking for Happy Hour specials which they did not have, but the staff was friendly and inviting so we decided to try it. We try to stay on beach budget because we go out so much, but sometimes we just have to splurge. I ordered the Cosmo and Nicole B had the St. Germain. I did not like her drink because ginger tastes like soap to me, but the Cosmo was fantastic. The bartender was wonderful, and provided us with an assortment of olives and bread with olive oil for dipping. We ordered the scallop small plate which was pricey, but the scallops were almost the size of a burger. These were the biggest scallops I have ever seen, and cooked perfectly. We spent more than we wanted to here, but it was worth every penny. read more

Azafran is a gem among brunch places in Rehoboth beach. It is on a commercial strip near the center of town, but a bit hidden, and as such it was not crowded at all even at 11AM on labor day weekend. Our experience eating there was very pleasant. The decor is minimal, comfy and relaxing. The menu is somewhat limited (my friend was eating vegetarian and was disappointed that there were no fish options available) but as an omnivore, I was satisfied even with the selection of basic items like waffles, omelets, fruits, granola, and sandwiches. I ordered a custom sandwich of egg, chorizo and manchego cheese on a "rustic" ciabatta with a side of potatoes. Yum. There was also a full espresso and beverage bar. Aside from the limited menu, it took a little while for our beverages and food, considering the place was not at all crowded. I would definitely come here again. I just hope it stays under the radar... so, quick, forget everything I just said! read more

Feels more like dining with friends than a restaurant . --Incredible service and attention to detail. Tapas equal to that of any Spanish restaurant, if not a cut above. Entrees superlative too. Place was packed, and server repeatedly apologized for delays but it seemed pretty fast to us. We were enjoying ourselves so much, we didn't notice. Up until tonight, I've enjoyed meals at Cafe Azafran. The food is authentic and very good. Tonight, the Grilled Romaine Caesar Salad was one of the best I have ever eaten. My martini was excellent. Sadly, the Vegetarian Large Plate (read - 'entree') was just a collection of side dishes packed on one plate. There was no theme or direction, just a mess of assorted flavors and tastes that were sloppily piled on (read - 'quantity does not equal quality'). Susan enjoyed her salad, but said she's had better crab cakes. She enjoyed her wine. Coffee and dessert were interrupted. We had an incident and this is why I'm unable to give Cafe Azafran more than two stars. The manager came over to the table next to us and said to the two women having after dinner drinks and dessert, "We have this table booked four minutes from now for a 7:30 pm reservation and you'll need to move to the bar." Since we had been talking to them throughout the evening, (It's an intimate corner for three two tops - read 'crowded together'), I said to the manager after he had delivered his ultimatum, "How about if they move over next to us?" He turned to me and said, "I was just about to tell you the same thing." And then he walked away. To be honest, this was the first time we have ever been told to vacate our table in a restaurant. And, to add insult to injury, there was no offer or apology. There was no offer to have a drink or dessert on the house. As a matter of fact, we had just gotten our coffee and were still waiting for our dessert. Later, after I expressed my displeasure to the bartender, the manager did come over to the bar and tried to emphasize that I never gave him a chance to explain. He did then offer to pay for our dessert. Will I return? Maybe. read more

This is a great restaurant to walk up to the window and order on a hot Covid day. I got a small Greek salad and Tzatziki . The latter came with pita. The Greek salad was a really nice size with a nice amount of feta on it and the tzatziki was incredibly refreshing and delicious. It is a shame that they are not open for inside dining right now but that's the way it goes. I say that because I've eaten here in years that it was open and I find the food to be delicious.
